Hands down one of the best places for brunch in Seattle so far. If there is one thing that you must order is Bacon. You can stop reading the review now.We had Crispiest Chicken Sandwich, and sure it was Crispiest sandwich ever. Replaced the fries with Stadium Fries worth extra $2.Also ordered Big Dipper French Toast is unique long bread. Loved it as well.If there is one suggestion would be waiting time. There were couple empty tables still we had to wait for 15mins to sit.
Havent had the food, but the Shanghai lounge is top class. Karaoke DJ and bartenders are legendary
Easily one of my favorite places to grab a bite in Seattle, and one of the few proper 24/7 places to grab a meal. While its decor is a wonderful preservation of the Chinese restaurant that was there before, the menu is a excellent mix up of a handful of classic diner go-tos, many with a twist that elevates them to something special without losing the core of the dish. The staff have always been friendly and they do not skimp out on the portions. Recommended for those looking for a good meal at a moderate price.
I love this place. I had the pancake combo last night and watched most of titanic on the diner side with Travis the owner (hes lovely) and the other side brought me to Salem and we had a fun and fulfilling chat about the afterlife and grief and love. Im just so grateful for all the memories I have at North Star. They take care of you. Come down for karaoke and Ill sing you a song. Xoxo.
Everything about this venue is fun, cute, and high quality: the aesthetic, the food, and the staff. I always leave with a smile on my face.
Tried for breakfast, chicken fried steak is one of the dishes I use as a barometer for a new spot. Hash browns is another. Hash browns here are legit, actually shredded and not home fries. Came nice and crispy, with a still fluffy center. CFS was closer to fried hamburger than tenderized steak as is the norm, but the breading was on point and the gravy was A+ fantastic!Service was friendly and efficient; one server running the whole room on a late Friday morning, but they kept it together. The 3 star rating is for one simple miss that is unacceptable: over easy eggs were WAY overcooked. It is a deal breaker. Maybe it is a one off, and I am down to go again and update if they fix it. But when the customer says over VERY EASY, and gets solid yolks, it is a huge miss.
Excellent dinner food, fast and friendly service, and reasonable prices. Also, great ranch!! Huge iced tea, wow. The club sandwich served with fries is easily two meals. Fresh turkey, crispy lettuce (that isnt iceberg!), Flavorful bacon, and fat fries cooked to perfection! Dining companion ordered the Little Dipper breakfast and loved every bite. Ham is obviously cooked in house, eggs served exactly as ordered, everything perfect. Fun decor as well. Some of these astronaut pics must be fakes though?! One guy is wearing a Hawaiian shirt underneath 😂😂
Frozen adult drinks with a cool vibe. My new favorite neighborhood bar!
Best. Milkshake. In. Seattle. They offer boozy options too! Their breakfast is fantastic too.
North Star Diner was a great option for dinner the other night. The service was good and the food was excellent. With the recent reopening of the state, they are still trying to find a balance in ordering supplies; after an unexpected 4th of July rush, they were out of romaine and milkshake base. However, the pancakes were delicious and my partner enjoyed the Rueben (he said the rye was toasted perfectly). We look forward to trying again once restaurants and supply chains get back into the swing of things.
Yes, a full 5 stars for the Moon door, a wall of astronaut photos, and the lovely young woman working at 7 am on a cold Sunday morning...brings me the memories of another all-night diner in San Francisco. Time travelling to 1995 and a hearty breakfast with friends after hours of dancing at the dyke bar. The menu offers some surprisingly sophisticated options, in case you are loathe to slum it. Yes, thats 5 stars.
I ordered the boozy lemon lavender milkshake and the breakfast chimichanga.I dont think Ill get the lemon lavender in the future, I dont think that the vodka works with everything even though Im a big fan of lavender. The breakfast Chimichanga was a monster and was prepared pretty well. I had plenty left over to take some home. Our server was amazing and definitely made us feel comfortable at the diner.I took a look around at the Shanghai room while we were waiting for the milkshakes and saw the cool dimly lit room with 2 projectors playing movies.I definitely want to return in the future.
Yeah! We were pretty impressed by the North Star on our first visit today for breakfast. Nice Mexican inspired breakfast items along with your regular sundry of selections. Our meals had some spice but not too much to detract from the meal. My wife had the Chalaquiles and I had the Taurus Scramble and we enjoyed them both. The coffee was ok, but plentiful. Service was good too.
Our sandwiches were SO good but the onion rings were the absolute best!
Northstar has yet to disappoint, the french toast stick starters and a build your own omelette smothered in green chillie verde salsa. Exactly what i needed for my late start after 4/20. North Star also has a unique astrology theme an was playing the most Seattle type of music in the background. Great vibes and top tier menu options.
I had the chicken-fried steak and it was phenomenal! And such a large portion, you’d better be hungry or share it because I couldn’t finish it! Everything was homemade and fresh, the gravy was thick and tasty, and the steak was perfectly breaded and seasoned. The hash browns were crispy and moist. I’ll definitely come back and try the French toast next 😁
Had a phenomenal brunch, ended up spending far more time than intended here due to the phonemonal service, amazing cocktails (Get the A Rose for Emily cocktail!) and solid eats.If you havent been, you wont be disappointed.
I dont remember it well but I usually enjoy food
The breakfast burrito was great! Nice decor.
Good customer service, my girl and I got there an hour beforee closing we thought that we had enough time to eat in person, we werent rushed at the end, the waitress was nice, and he bathrooms are well decorated
Old school breakfast joint. The atmosphere was great 👍
Great spot for for cheap delicious food and great drinks. The back patio is excellent
I really expected this to be excellent and it was really only OK thus the 3 star rating. My scramble was able to be converted to a burrito for no additional cost...but my wife ordered the same meal and did not have it rolled into a burrito, she received a much bigger portion and hers wasnt bone dry and difficult to cut like mine. The breakfast burrito was dry and didnt taste great but the tiny container of salsà was tasty. My daughters French toast looked good, but 50 dollars for 3 people drinking water seemed like a massive waste of money. This is a busy place but I will most likely not return. Not the value of Jays cafe in Kenmore.
Ive never had an experience at North Star that wasnt tremendously kind and friendly. The food is good, but the staff is why I keep coming back.
Nice food in a retro-diner atmosphere. Good menu variety and pleasant staff.
Friendly staff, great food, giant portions.
This neighborhood gem hits the spot every time and their Friday special is a weekly ritual for me. I look forward to them being open again 24/7 but I will take what I can get!
CLOSEDClosed multiple days in December with no signs up. Out of food when open. Now closed on January 15 with no signs up. Still advertising as 24 hours. Health department issues due to all the flies? No staff?I tried. You failed. I will never eat here again. False advertising from a business that fails no matter what the name was, is, or will be.ZERO STARS
Amazing place! Never disappointed! Staff, food, owner, ambience, .....all spectacular. Comfort food, yummy!
Such a lovely little diner! I’ve only ordered takeout but I had such a great experience. Their food is tasty, creative, and well served. I like the large menu they have and I appreciate all of the sort of “twists” they have on classic breakfast dishes. Highly recommend at any time of the day, well done!
Nice cozy spot to meet for breakfast. I believe theyre open 24 hours a day.
Such a fun place! Diner inside, outdoor hangout option, and a bar! Food was great!
We really dig this unique joint!
Great place! I love to go there. Always great food and drinks:) Its a great place to go for late night eating. They even have karaoke in the bar that is attached!!!👍👍😂The drink that I took a picture of is called Celery Lime It was my 1st time having it.. its made with Tequila. This drink is ON TAP!! Ikr??! What! Lol. Its really quite delicious, please come here at enjoy the company of the staff and have a good time!
Cool place to kick it and get some dank food.
Love a good neighborhood diner! This one has especially confusing themes bouncing from astronauts to Chinese paper lanterns it doesnt make a whole lot of sense but you cant help but love it. If nothing its got character. Food was much better than I expected and service was excellent even on the patio with covid restrictions!
Crab grilled cheese, and the chicken fried steak are amazing! Love this place.
An old school diner in its own quiet pocket of the city. As a traveller trying the restaurant for the first time, this place evokes a nostalgic feeling. Diners with a history tend to do that, and the North Star is no exception.Staff were friendly and laid back. Food portions were very generous, and the wall is adorned with the portrait photographs of astronauts. If you are ever hungry, this place is open 24 hours. There is modest parking directly behind the restaurant, and the cost of parking is currently at $2 for 2 hours.
A decent hipster diner!
The waiters and waitresses were the nicest and most accommodating of any place I have eaten at in years. The food was just like my family has at the dinner table and the friendly chatter of nearby tables made you feel so at home.and comfortable.. I will certainly keep going back to try more of those deserts and wonderful breads. Love the place and will tell my friends to try it. Keep up the great work.. S. B
Good food good service decent prices
Great food, awesome service, and nice atmosphere.
I absolutely love this spot! Feels like old Seattle. No attitudes. Amazing service, consistent food and always open! Great atmosphere. My son and I love eating here together (awesome kids menu too!) Thanks for still being here!
Great for drinks, but would pass on the lunch menu for food. I cant comment on the breakfast menu but all the lunch items I have tried were fair at best. The drinks and service is great on the Shanghai side an do recommend a visit. Fair pricing and good service.
This place captures the feeling of the Seattle I grew up with. Diner style food and coffee. Plus Anthony Bourdain approves.
Customer service is just beyond amazing here, no matter the time of day! Regular stop for some amazing food. Vegan and veggies options too!
This place is a favorite of mine, really great food, nice folks (Kiersten is the best, seriously give them a raise), and lots of cool cocktail options. However, Im really disappointed the the menu has gotten smaller. My favorite was to order the Macn Cheese and get the card to choose my toppings. Thats gone, so are a lot of the other things I recognized. Please bring these back.Lastly, thank you for being one of the coolest places in greenwood.
I super enjoy both the atmosphere and the food here! The staff is usually friendly and on point, the food is generous and well made. The gold vinyl benches in the diner add a glitzy touch to my weekend brunch. The best part if coming in at any time to be promptly greeted with the option of fried rice and pancakes. Two thumbs up!
Great service staff and the music was fun too!! Will totally be back again to check out lunch. My chicken fried steak breakfast was delicious!!
Excellent milkshakes PB&J and Milky-way were great. Regular diner fare, burgers good but using standard buns (like Safeway) but still tasty. Nice decor - astronaut & cosmonaut photos on the walls.
Came here for lunch. Parking is a pay lot behind the restaurant or street parking, your choice, but we found parking pretty easily. The place looks real unassuming from outside, and inside its also the same, but I have to say very clean. The staff is extremely friendly and our server was very attentive. I had the spicy chicken sandwich with fries. The sandwich itself was great! Made with actual chicken breast and instead of slathering on some kind of spicy sauce, this came with actual jalapenos in it! The fries where also very good and crispy, just the way I like. We ordered fried brussel sprouts as an appetizer and these where also very good and cooked just right! My companion had the build your own breakfast burrito which she said was very good and it was also huge. She had to ask for a box because she could only eat half of it before she got full. The prices for everything are reasonable, the food is good, the service is good, they serve breakfast all day and night if you want it and theyre open 24 hours. What more could you want from a neighborhood diner!!
A miracle in the middle of the night, ho-hum in the light.Have been here numerous times, mostly at night. Came by one evening recently for dinner, fell flat. Had a few sandwiches, an appetizer, a shake. Our shake was very thin and lacked whipped cream, a crime in our mind. We were provided whipped cream somewhat promptly, it too was thin, more like wimped cream. The smothered fries were tasty, but had only one or two tiny chunks of pork. Sandwiches arrived and were pretty decent (though the guacamole didnt dazzle), though one of our onion rings (20% of the serving) was ice cold in the middle. We shared this news with our server, who agreed that a frozen ring would be inedible and continued on with their evening. This was a great example of service, which was fast in terms of order-taking and food delivery, though maybe spread too thin to be really attentive to the amount of guests that evening.Still, Id come to this spot over the nearby Beths for a night time visit. Beths wins in the charm department and is cheaper, North Star has yet to be visited in the same numbers or volume levels by the under-25 party crowd on any night Ive been there. I cant wait for the next night-time visit, well grab a booth, order a coffee and maybe an appetizer.
Very tasty food! I had the chicken fried steak with bacon gravy and eggs. The portion size was very big for a proportionate amount of money. The restaurant itself had the feeling of an old style dinner which was pretty basic, but the food made up for it.
Excellent service - really nice people. Also best food Ive eaten in a long time. Cozy yet funky atmosphere & with my mother in law new to the neighborhood, this will be our regular spot 😊 Really impressed with the whole vibe & eats!!
Service and cocktails saved this place. Bloody marry was really good, server was lovely. Food was alright but very unimpressive for the price. We had chicken fried steak and the corned beef benedict. Both were not at all good. Corned beef was lunch meat, chicken fired steak and gravy had a very cash n carry taste about them. Having worked kitchens for many years, you can tell this place is cutting corners and relying too much on the Food Service of America delivery folks.
Been coming here off and on for many years. Always really liked it and had great food with great presentation. The last few times Ive noticed a substantial quality drop. The second to last time I had 3 food items with curly black hair in it. (They took care of it, so I just thought it was a fluke and maybe a new cook).Tonight we received some terribly prepared food that were cold, incomplete, or non-edible.What happened? Should I give this place another chance or was the third time a strike?:( I used to love coming here, now it makes me feel woozy when I walk by.It makes me really depressed actually.Knowing how a restaurant works inside and out, theres something wrong or at least a recent change thats turning the place upside down.
Classic diner feel on one side and a asian themed bar with a Las Vegas lounge feel on the other.
Always comfortable and relaxing.Food is awesome, customers and staff are chill.
Super delicious. Prices are reasonable I would say.
One of our favorite lunch spots, with good food and friendly staff. My wife always goes for the tomato soup, but there are lots of other good choices like the Reubens or the burgers. While not the best burger around they are very good. OK, their North Star burger *is* the best Dicks Deluxe you will ever find LOL (sorry Dicks!). We can usually find parking easily and there is never a wait to get seated. Try them, youll like it.
I love this spot. Great quality food and super tasty drinks. It isnt the cheapest greasy spoon but when you see the quality you will get it. Good twist on American breakfast classics. I got the Benedict Hash last time I was there... And may get it again!
Delicious!
Absolutely loved this place. The fact it is open 24 hours makes this place very unique in the area. The quality of food and drinks are great and it is pretty inexpensive. Love it!
Up at 230am? Hungry and classic dinner fare? This is your place. Up at 7am? That breakfast special menu is cheap!!! I leave here full happy and those servers every one of them make you feel welcome. Food can be awhile of its busy. But come on who doesnt notice that? It was busy I understand. Nailed it non the less
A greasy spoon with gourmet flair! Great service, not good, Great! 3 of us ate full meals and coffee for $58+tip. Ambiance was Hurricane-esque (do you even Seattle?!) Not cheap but not outrageous. Ill be back many times!
North star is a fun neighborhood hangout. The atmosphere is lively and upbeat. We did have to wait over an hour for our food. The coffee was good but not amazing. The green eggs and ham scramble had some nice flavors to it. The pancakes were yummy. The meat scramble was bland.
Great food
I have been coming here since it opened. It has only improved with time. The staff/owners are great and the food is always high quality. Great vegetarian options as well as amazing meat dishes. The Shanghai room is a perfect place to enjoy too many drinks with great company. They dont make em like this anymore.
Amzing food, such good atmosphere, the servers are all super cool and helpful. fast, delicious service. i love it here, and will always come here as my top #1 diner.
The reviews said the food was good and the service was nice. I found this to be 100% accurate. They stay on top of your coffee like it matters and the service was sincerely friendly. This may be my new breakfast spot.
Great onion rings. Vegan patty is an oddity. Salad is very fresh. The servers are very nice and humble. Good atmosphere. This is a place where you can just chill. Theyre seriously good at breading, such as fried chicken or onion rings.
Better than Beths in pretty much every way. Similar pricing, still large portions... It makes me wonder why people still view that grease pit as the best 24 hour experience in Seattle. North Star is interesting, large, has good food that isnt nearly as greasy as Beths.. Just a much more enjoyable experience taking people here.
Was just there today! My sister in law recommended it to me and Im glad I went! The food is really good and the service was super fast. My food came out Maybe 5 minutes after I ordered it which is great cause I was super hungry. I was in the shanghai room and loved the lighting. Ill definitely be back again.
Food is served on both sides. We chose to sit in the bar area and had a wonderful time. The bartender was very nice and personable. We will be back on our next road trip 🙂
The diner-style food decent and plentiful. A little more expensive than standard diner but also has some different options you won’t find elsewhere. Service is very polite, though sometimes a little slow because it can get quite busy. The atmosphere is completely unique (space-themed Chinese restaurant?) and attached to a bar. 24 hours, which comes in handy often. Worth it if you’re in Greenwood just for the quirky vibes.
Great place for breakfast/ brunch. Friendly servers, large portions of tasty breakfast fare. Crispy bacon, is a great add on to any meal.Fun pics on the wall of astronauts. Definitely worth the trip. Its our go to place when we visit Seattle.
Everyone was thankful for the late night post drinking belly rub. Tasty vittles done the way a truck stop would out in the middle of the boondocks, USA. I know, my family hails from there. Except those places are closed by 8. This was 2:30 AM Sunday morning and eggs, toast, and all sorts of love was being sent out of the kitchen. Worth it every time!
Service during Covid-19 was awesome. Sanitized and well distanced tables, great drinks and food too!
This is my go-to diner. Their housemade vegan patty is delicious. My kid likes the atmosphere and looking at all the astronaut photos.
Great fish and chips drinks and service. Fast
This place had the best food and a nice atmosphere. I tend to get laughing attacks and will laugh and dumb things for 30 minutes. The staff took it like a champ and were laughing with me rather than getting annoyed like my then boyfriend. Presentation of meals was also pretty cute. My food idol would be so proud if he was here to see it
