I enjoyed their coffee very much. (They use coffee beans from Cafe Umbria if I remember correctly). Super convenient location to grab coffee or a snack if you are in Cowen park.
If I could give no stars I would. Very bad customer service. I used to go to this cafe often, but then the owner began to treat me rudely for no reason sometime back. So I stopped going so often. This morning I went in to buy pastry and she gave me a hard time for buying 3 pastries. Said I was taking away from her regular customers. I said I used to be. She said her everyday customers. She went to said that if I were to do that in the future to order the day before and prepay. Seriously? For 3 pastries? I said I could also go down the street to Il Fournil Bakery and them there. She asked if I wanted to do that now? I thought about it, but bought the 3 measly pastries and left. But how rude. And to think I once went there during the pandemic and left a $50 tip for a cup of coffee. I truly wish to support my neighbors, but I will never go there again and tell everyone I know of my experiences and encourage them to go a few blocks away to Seven, where the service is considerably better. Or even Herkimers, just around the corner. I have always been polite to the owner, but she has always been rude to me. Such a shame.
Id been going here off and on for over a decade now, but the owner still treats me rudely and in a very unfriendly manner. To be fair, I think she just treats everyone that way - Ive talked to other people whove had the same experience: zero customer service, she treats you as if youre interrupting her important day and shes doing you a favor by selling you a cup of coffee. Never seen her smile. Marked contrast to the grocery next door (a sister business), where the couple who run it are reasonably friendly and outgoing. The last straw was today, when my wife picked me up a le Fournil sandwich at the cafe. The sandwich must have been at least several days old - the bread was completely soggy, the lettuce was wilted and brown at the edges. Not going back! The cafe is usually pretty empty and I dont see how it can survive much longer, given the owners concerted efforts to drive customers away. Too bad, as its a good location - right by Cowan Park - and has so much potential.
Absolutely love this place. Everyone is so friendly even during these tough times. Definitely a quiet neighborhood joint.
I’ve been going here since i first moved here, amazing place
Grocery shop with all the basics and a nice cafe. Coffee is great and the quality of sweet treats was surprisingly good.
Wonderful little cafe and grocer. Very relaxing atmosphere. Good coffee. Good pastries. You can find most things you need in the grocery side.
My local corner store. Love this place everybody working there hella friendly
Apparently no bags to carry the items you purchase from there. “This is Seattle so we don’t have bags”. I am aware it is Seattle. But typically when a person comes to grocery shop they expect means to carrying the items they buy.
Lady could barely be bothered to get off her phone to serve me a mediocre sandwich and fruit tart, and certainly couldnt be bothered to make a fresh pot of coffee. In addition to no drip coffee, the selection of food was pretty slim. I was pressured into leaving 30 minutes before closing, and she started moving things in ten minutes till closing. For good measure, she made some passive aggressive remarks about cleaning my table before I left. Worst customer service Ive had in a while. Only eat here if youre in a pinch.
Used to be a big fan of this place when i lived here in 2017 but now the grocery part of the store seems to have quite the racist asian lady working the desk, who harasses customers in the bathroom. Coffee portion still seems alright, my espresso was good the lady there was very friendly, but for sure wont be getting any groceries here ever again.Beware: If youre a POC theyll hit you with a bathroom is for customers even if you bought something
What a super wine selection. Prices are fantastic as well. Really friendly people at this grocery store. I’m glad I went in.
Okay from the outside but inside just another run of the mill convenient store. Lots of unused potential. What got me were the two candy bars that I thought were stale. Best before 04/2017. Blech. I shouldnt have had them in the first place.
Slow and unfriendly. Exactly opposite of what you would expect from a neighborhood cafe
I’m writing this as I have been asked to leave because I forgot my wallet and am thus unable to make a purchase and become a valued customer....sure I get the concept here but someone who lives in the neighborhood who walked over with every intention of supporting a local establishment is turned away and not allowed a table at a very slow lunch hour is just insane to me!I’d like to go on and dictate how awful of an interaction I had with the owner, but I will tell you this. While in the process of packing back up my belonging I was asked to leave again and instead of having an honest conversation about how I felt slighted by her business, the owner of this private establishment continued to interrupt me many times and held firm to her beliefs that I had no value as a return customer. Apparently this one honest mistake of forgetting my wallet has doomed me to have no value to her. She even claimed she will be contacting yelp to have my review taken down, not sure that’s how that works....Now, to be clear, I’m not normally this person, vengefully typing away on my tiny device to “get back” at a small business owner. However, I do want it to be known that if you are looking for a warm hospitable coffee lounge this is not it. The owner was rude and coming from many years experience in food service myself, there were many better options to resolve this conflict and she was just not willing to value me as a customer much less a human.
Fantastic coffee shop and grocery, family run. (Two years later and its still a wonderful place to be.)
I remember when the current owners first bought the store on this corner. It used to be sleazy, but when they took over it became a beloved neighborhood café. They know everyone around and theyre an important part of the local culture.
Lots of places to charge things, staff was extremely kind when I was about 30 cents short for a croissant.
Very pleased with this inviting place. Very family oriented just loved the enviorment made me feel so welcome.
Friendly service and laid back atmosphere. They serve umbria coffee which is nice.
Uncomfortable experience. Bad service. I came in for a coffee. I asked for a restroom code, and was told to look at the white sign with the code. I go the restroom and another lady asks me are you a customer in a way of accusing me to be not a customer. I left the restroom, and she told me to shut the door all the way cuz its not shut, but it was shut. Overall, the owners are too scared of their customers, and treat us like little children.
Been here for years. Nice to have such a cute place in this neighborhood.
Great Coffee. Super nice people on Grocery side.
Latte was beautiful and delicious
Couldn’t even set my stuff down before I got the good ol’ “buy something or leave”.
