I brought my car in to evaluate my brakes & a comprehension repair (advertised on their marketing publication.)On my receipt, there was no record of new oil, new wipers, and multi-point inspection.I mentioned something I believe is wrong with my brakes; I was suggested to spend an additional $250.00 for parts on the vehicle to repair before they even see the car.So $450 into this now, I pick my car up the next day, and within 30 seconds of the vehicle being turned back on, the tires squeaked still. The technician then told me, Oh yeah, thats the back brakes, bro.So they repaired an excellent section of the car and did nothing about the actual problem. Then two days later, the owner texts me, asks about my service I tell him, and then there is no response of any kind.I wouldnt recommend them for service on a vehicle in the future.
Great experience with this shop. Had to have my transfer case done. These guys worked with me to mitigate cost and saved me about $600. Kept in great communication with me and got the repair done in a little over a week. Thank you Mike! Ill definitely be back.
These guys got me in and out in the same day for a pretty large repair. They also charged much less than I was originally quoted!
These guys are awesome !! I am from New Jersey my truck was stolen and damaged pretty bad. They could have charged whatever they wanted I was stuck in Washington. But they gave me a price $1000s under a national chain. Thank you Alki auto !!!!!
My wife got stranded in my car outside this shop. The car needed a new battery. I knew that and forgot to tell her that If she parked up to kill everything else it likely wouldn’t restart. She parked up and took a Bluetooth call and sure enough when she went to restart it it wouldn’t start. I called the shop, and spoketo Scott and told him the make and model. Scott said he’d check if they had a suitable battery and call me back. Unfortunately they didn’t so they called a buddy’s shop down the road who did have one. That guy ran the battery up himself and they installed it then and there. They didn’t even charge us labor!! I’d give these guys 10Stars if I could. Phenomenal customer service!
Did comprehensive service on my Toyota Camry, and it was quick and decently priced!
Trustworthy mechanics. Always super nice, helpful, and knowledgeable.
Great experiences, I drive from Tacoma. Honest, friendly staff.
Terrible service and very unprofessional. I never write reviews but Ive been here 4 times and have never had good service. Take the time to schedule ahead literally anywhere else.
Very helpful. I called to see if I could come in to get a battery change, since I left my car sitting too long and the battery died. The guy who answered spent several minutes on the phone listening to my situation and recommended that I not replace the battery right away. He said he wasn’t busy and was more than happy to do the replacement if needed, but instead made a recommendation that was helpful for me but cost him business. It seems like they have a lot of integrity.
Owner scream at me and hang up phone; totally unprofessional . Worst customer service ever! The repair was $60 but he wanted to perform other services for $2,600. I declined and he got abusive over the phone because I was not going to pay for a shop I don’t trust.
Friendly, timely, and easy on the wallet. Will continue to bring my car back here.
John and Alki Auto get a big thumbs up from me. Thanks for getting my truck in last minute and diagnosing quickly this week. I especially appreciate your quick and thorough repair, but also helping out with burnt bulbs and some much-needed brake maintenance. Great recommendations, kind service, and good hands during a crazy and stressful couple of weeks. Salt of the earth!
A family member of mine went here for some work on their car because it was close to their house and their kid knew the owners son. All they needed was an oil leak repair. They ended up blowing up the motor due to a timing belt issue they created and admitted to. The owner has horrible customer service and is SO rude. He yelled at them on the phone and was very unprofessional. The vehicle had no motor problems before they brought it in.The owner refused to provide his insurance information and forced my dad into letting them put a junk yard motor in it for which they had to fight to get a warranty on it. He kept saying that their insurance would provide a subpar motor to what he was willing to provide. Which he had no way of proving.I wish my family looked at their Google and yelp reviews before ever coming here. They’re not good. They got their car back and the check engine light that wasn’t on when they brought it in is now on. The speakers aren’t working either and they’re worried it isn’t reliable to drive now. Will not be returning to have any warranty work done by them as they have proved to be a dishonest and poor quality auto body company.
My boyfriend was here visiting, and I referred him to Alki Auto Repair, because I had a past experience there that was positive for an oil change. While he was waiting for his truck to be finished, a convertible with a Confederate flag was pulled into the garage by one of the employees. My bf who is African American, instantly got really bad vibes and was worried about his truck. They closed the garage and when his truck came back into view he noticed something had shifted, and it was at an odd tilt.We plan to bring his truck to another mechanic to see if any alterations were made that could impact his safety. At this point he is afraid to drive it.He had brought his own oil and filter and was still charged full price for an oil change.I am broken hearted he had this experience in the community that I live in, at a business I recommended.I know for myself I want to hear ahead of time if there are business that condone a hostile or unsafe environment for customers. Alki Auto Repair will not see business from me or referrals again.
I’m not even sure of the mechanic’s name because I was in and out of there so fast, but I assume he was the owner. To my complete surprise, he changed a tail light for me at no cost! Very nice guy and quick service. I’ll definitely come back for bigger concerns :)
John and the team at Alki Auto are fantastic. Always great work, professional, and honest. Wont take my Suburban anywhere else.
This is the only place I take my truck. I trust the work that is completed and value the advice regarding maintenance and monitoring to insure my rig will keep running for a long time. Alki Auto, thanks for what you do.
They cant repair it on time and they even cant know what is wrong with the car on time. They are to slow and care about money only.
I took my car in here not once, but twice. The fan system in my car was not working so I took it in since it was making a loud and a possibly-something-wrong-type sound. The damage was over $600, which was expected for this type of repair. I get my car back thinking its fixed and only to find out they replaced it with a worse sound! Unbelievable. So I took it in again after they agreed to take a look at it. I dropped it off, went over to the coffee shop and waited a very long time to get my car back. When I get the call that its ready- Im expecting it to be fixed and everything is all good. I was wrong. I go over and I see they DENTED my car pretty badly, and I had not done this to my car previously. And, you guessed it! They didnt fix the fan either! The most vile part is they were such snakes about the dent. They tried to sit there and pretend and act like they didnt do it and it wasnt their fault when it clearly was. They lied to my face and tried to bs their way out of the situation. Im beyond disappointed with this place and cannot believe the audacity of the worker. Why lie to me and not just be straight up and honest that you dented my car? Stay far away from this place and try somewhere else if you want your car to not be banged up and ruined even more. Such a shame. I used to bring my car here all the time and never had any problem.
Always a good experience with Alki Auto Repair after two decades of service on multiple vehicles (Jeep, BMW, classic Jeep, 4Runner, VW). I cant recommend this shop enough.
Was quoted less than $500 for my brakes but when I got there it miraculously turned into $600. I also had a brake light out and John told me I needed a whole new light assembly and they would repair it for $370. I had my brakes done elsewhere for $375 and ordered a new bulb socket for the light for $16 and the now the brakes and light work great. He also quoted me $159 for a full synthetic oil change that the dealership did for $99. I would not recommend this place. I saved more than $600 by going elsewhere.
I love these guys. They are patient, talented, efficient and last but not least-entertaining. If I can have my car serviced at a reasonable price, get an appointment in a sensible amount of time, have my car run better when I drive it out of the service center, understand my bill and repairs as explained to me AND have a few laughs too-I am all for that. This place is impressive.
I had a fantastic experience at Alki Auto when I called on a Monday morning saying my tire was nearly flat - the owner John was able to take care of my tire within an hour! Hes efficient and has reasonable rates, and thats really important to me to have in a mechanic.
Alki Auto Repair has by far been the most honest and human auto repair shop Ive been to in a long time. Man! They are not about ripping you off or wasting your time. Right to the point, with exceptional attention to detail. WOW! You have a customer for life for all my vehicles.
We take our car exclusively here now. I cannot describe the wonderful way they have treated my wife, me and our car. Top notch service, reliable, reasonable rates. they were good when on Alki - i only took my car there a few times, but now they are right by and easily the best in the area.
We are long time customers of Alki Auto Repair. Dane and the rest of the crew have always done great work on the various cars we have owned. We are always impressed by their attention to detail, and going the extra mile to help us. We have no reason to go elsewhere for our car service needs! We highly recommend Alki Auto.
Purchased a new car and got a maintenance light shortly thereafter. I swung by their shop and they prioritized my issue even though it was minor and I had not called to schedule anything. It turned out to be an air pressure issue and these guys fixed it twice and didnt charge me (aired up the first time, next day it was low and they found a nail in my tire.)They took great care of me and I cant recommend them highly enough.
To preface, I needed my clutch replaced and I understood the last minute nature of my request going in.As soon as I got there, the gentleman behind the counter (Rob) didnt acknowledge me, even though I said good morning. He kept staring at his screen without a word. I waited about 30 seconds before he lazily looked toward me and asked whats up?. Normally that question is reserved for someone youre looking to fight, but in this case I just took it as this guy isnt that great at making money for this business. At any rate, I told him what I needed, he dramatically went over the reasons why they couldnt do the job today (which I understood) and went down the list of jobs/vehicles that they were working ahead of me; but insisted he would do this for me as if it were a favor and I wasnt going to pay any money. He quoted me roughly $1700 for everything out the door but that was the today only price. He would be able to get my truck back by Tuesday but only if I brought it back by 2:00 today. This is a reasonable timeframe to work this type of job given its a holiday weekend, but that is an outrageous price, especially if hes insisting hes doing me a favor by discounting me $100 (which he did and still came out to over $1700).Regardless, I have been to this establishment before and had a good experience with Dane, but not this Rob character. Rob seemed to give me his best impersonation of a sleazy grease-ball garage mechanic stereotypically trying to cheat unsuspecting customers out of their money. Dane is a professional and I would advise keeping Rob out of customer service area. Because of this, I wont be returning for any future service even though Alki Auto Repair is a local business and very conveniently located for me. Just not worth it.BTW, I was able to take it to the dealer for over $300 less than Robs quote with a loaner car.
Alki Auto Repair saved me a lot of money! When selling my car, the buyer had it checked by a mechanic who said it needed new ball joints and quoted $800+. I called three other mechanics who all quoted the same, except Alki Auto Repair who estimated $650. Before starting work, they double checked that the ball joints actually needed replacement and, to my relief, said they looked just fine and was willing to put that in writing to satisfy my buyer.Aside from saving me money, they were very friendly and kept me updated with the status of my car. One issue I did have was that the car sat in the lot for about a day before they brought it in their garage while they waited for the part to show up, then the wrong part came so they had to order it again. Most of that wait time was beyond their control, not to mention it was a Saturday so they were busy.
John and Michael take great care of you and your vehicle, I bring my personal truck and my company fleet here for regular service and maintenance.
Terrible customer service. Had my car dropped off to give me a price on the transmission. I told them it was bad. Charged me $136.83 to tell me what I told them and said they were going to charge me for storage because the street construction made limited parking. Then wanted to charge me $1829.52 to remove and replace the transmission. I was forced to come back for a emissions test on my 2008 Ford Fusion to get plates. I have to give them $150 to get a waver to purchase tabst for DOL. This shop has made so much on this rediculas law. That ends January 2020. Today cost $164.19.
Ill try and keep the story short and to the point. My family and I drove down to San Diego. Along the way, the AC Compressor gave up and died. After taking it twice to a shop that specializes in AC repair, we drove back up to Seattle and guess what happened? AC Compressor crapped out.I was given some choices in where to take my vehicle for warranty work and I stumbled along to Alki Auto Repair and I was glad! First off Dane was able to set my expectations and work with my warranty folks as well as the California garage. Jared, the technician, spent several hours troubleshooting and critique of the previous work. And in the end, they pulled off the miracle and the AC system works just as it supposed to. So if youre looking for a shop who will take good care of you, try these guys. Thanks Dane and Jared!
I recently purchased a vehicle that was rebuilt and needed a second opinion regarding what needed to be fixed in the short-term and long-term. I was terrified because I dont know anything about cars so I was skeptical about bringing the car to practically anyone. Two people had referred me via word-of-mouth to Dane at Alki auto repair. About the same time, the car started to flash the temperature sensor light and began to overheat while being driven. I drove directly to them and they were fantastic. He was kind, non-patronizing, clear, direct, and wrote down every quote while he explained everything he was going to do, as well as everything that needed to be done in the long term (approx a year). It was an absolutely perfect experience. I have personally never felt so at ease or felt I could trust someone as much with my car (and therefore my safety, and by extension, frankly, my wallet). I will not go anywhere else now. I highly recommend anyone take your vehicle to Dane-they are THE BEST around!
Not impressed. They tried to tell me my car REQUIRED full synthetic oil. I called them out on it and they retracted. I also asked them to look into a slow leak in one of the tires, for which they said there was nothing they could find. The tire continued to leak air over the next few days so I took it to Les Schwab—they found a nail. Sorry, won’t be going back.
I am very unlikely to ever write a review but, I felt like I must on this one. My power steering went out on my car before Christmas and had searched for a place to take it in the West Seattle area. I did do a little bit of research and saw they had a few bad reviews for charging too much but hell that could have just been that bad stereotype of mechanics right? They were very pleasant on the phone and let me bring in my car to inspect/diagnose it that day. He later called back and told me it would be $1800 to change the power steering pump and to fix a leak. Fortunately, I am mechanically inclined so that raised a red flag so I told him i would wait. I then picked it up and waited for this massive leak that was occurring with no results. I then took it into the dealership to get the power steering pump changed and asked about any leaks. Of course their werent any and my total price was near 1/3 of the price.Shame on them and the name they put onto other mechanics and their business.
What used to be a good local shop is now just a place to avoid. I used to take not one but two of my cars there over the past 10 years but will never go there again. John, the owner, treats people like third class citizens. In May, 2017 they replaced the axle on my SUV. I brought my car to a place in Woodinville (because I moved) and they noted that the axle was damaged. I had the car towed to Alki Auto where they replaced the faulty axle. In the processes they broke a sensor but didn’t bother to tell me. I noticed the car drove awkwardly and then the suspension warning like came on. I had the shop in Woodenville repair the sensor while they performed the other services. The differential fluid was gray with metallic fragments. This was after only 20 miles of driving! I showed this to Alki Auto and they said they would get back to me…of course they didn’t. I called a few days later and John told me that “he is not fixing something that isn’t broken!” and gave me an excuse that my SUV has been well documented for front axle issues and told me to look them up. So I did. Several searches resulted in minimal findings about this issue, hardly a “well documented problem.” I asked one shop and the dealer what could cause this issue and was told that because the axle failed and was leaking fluid the bearings did not have sufficient lubrication causing them to wear prematurely and this is likely the cause of the gray fluid. Cost for the repair - $2000.00 plus labor. After 10 years, Alki Auto did not even offer to inspect the vehicle to determine the root cause of this issue.
Worst experience of my life. Owner John said i had to put down a 3500 deposit he took engine out of my van and would not put it back in. My van sat in shop for two weeks before I had to call the other shop where he had sent my transmission. I am also having a very hard time getting my money refunded. The check he wrote me bounced!!! I would NEVER recommend anyone go here. Poor service and John is not nice.
Owner John Frank knows cars well and he knows even more about customer service. Hes highly ethical and competent. I would not take my car anywhere else.
Very easy to use, the customer service is spot on. Worth my business!
I was showing my friends Alki beach. My roommate texted me oil is leaking from my car. It turned out I didnt tight enough the oil filter when I changed it by myself and had been spilling oil everywhere on the road. I found the Alki auto repair was the closest auto shop around me and took my car there. I was expecting to pay some money when they said motor oil is almost empty in the tank and changed the oil filter, but they didnt charge me anything and explained what I should do next time and what might have happened. It was really nice of them, and I wouldnt forget their favor.
Not only they did not fixed my car properly, They were so rude and dishonest.
Quick, prompt, professional, honest, conveniently located. Definitely will be taking my car there for my future automotive needs!
I have gone in multiple times to Alki Auto Repair over the last few months. Both times my visits were for urgent issues (unable to change gears or put car into gear, and brake fluid leak) and they were able to get my car in and fixed quickly. They were honest and detailed in their explanations of my cars problems, even showing me the the damaged part of the caliper that was causing my brake fluid to leak. In addition, they obtained the part number for the damaged part (which they suspected was still under warranty) and the part was replaced free of charge to me, which reduced my bill significantly. For the transmission issue they instructed me on how to start the car while in gear so I could get it into the shop (I live nearby) and even offered to come and move the car themselves. Over the course of my two visits I interacted with multiple members of the staff, all of whom were approachable and friendly. Overall I have had great experiences with Alki and for the foreseeable future will be going back for any future repairs.
I honestly did not stay long enough to find out how they are since the two guys at the counter use scare tactics to get you to commit to service. First, they told my daughter when she took her car in with steering problems that the car was going to be another Ride the Duck incident - it was so dangerous to be driving and she came home in tears. When I went to pick it up, they told me to buy my daughter a new car and made me feel like an unfit mother. Do they honestly think they will get business this way??? Really? I paid the $60 bill for steering fluid that they put in and got the hell out of there! We took it to Moss Alley where we use to take the car and they put in a new steering gear box with no guilt feelings. Imagine that. I dont care how good they are, they dont know how to treat customers.
You wont find more conscientious work and and honest service than John and his outstanding team.
I dont know never been there for any auto repairs but I can say it is a small place.
Called because my transmission blew and the man on the phone was extremely helpful and referred me to another shop because he said thats who they work with in situations like this. He was very good about explaining everything.
I was 1st refered to Alki Auto repair a couple of years ago and Nick and his team have not disapointed me and met my expectations. Their prices are very reasonable and technical expertise is equall to what you will find at a car dealer. They keep you well informed as they repair your car. I wont hesitate to recomend them to others. They continue to perform and have great service though out the years.
Ive been going to Alki for 10 years. Service is always good.
Took my 2003 Toyota Highlander to Alki Auto Repair this morning to get a cost estimate for my 120K tune up; came in 150$ less than my current non dealer repair shop. Will post my experience post tune up. Like the guys in the shop, straight ahead.
Did an awesome job on my car.
Great customer service
Priced a little high
Excellent
