I realize your options for this type of service are limited but absolutely do NOT go here. The service is completely unprofessional and the owner does not take any responsibility for their actions. Not only does he overcharge for his services, but he also adds other items to your receipt and then holds your computer hostage if you do not pay them.He went out of his way to purchase the most expensive version of windows and add it to my bill. He did not ask me. He did not get my approval. He just did so and tried to pretend like it was my fault.Just so everyone who may read this is aware. You DO NOT have to buy a windows license to be able to install windows to any computer. Windows will allow you to install it WITHOUT activation and will remind you later to please activate. He had no right to do what he did.Upon first interacting with him he got defensive asking if I had read the reviews about him online. Well I had not, but I wish that I had because they are indeed very true.Do yourself a favor and do not interact with this business.

My PC crashed and brought my photography business to a halt. I called the computer place and thoroughly tested my machine and fixed it properly. I told them all the issues I’d encountered in addition to the crash.They tested every component and not only fixed my computer but it now handles video editing software such as davinci resolve noticeably faster and smoother. I am proud of what I see on The Computer place WEBSITE! For I have known Rand since I was 18 years old, I was the first person he met when he moved to Florida. We are both musicians, and Rand is very talented in many different ways! The Computer Place is very High Tech! I AM GOING TO SEND 100 boards for the WAVE, we also need need to mold some salt( for my new housing ), I prefer molding this type of plastic for flexibility and strength! I am going to be running extra hot so I developed special white/white insulation, I want to talk to you about that! Very impressed with the speedy service from Rand on my PCs issue! He diagnosed and addressed the issues root cause and had the computer back to me within 24 hours, and all with excellent communication throughout AND at a great price, considering I got a better GPU out of the deal than I had previously. Ive had bad experiences with other PC repair shops in Sarasota, but things couldnt have gone smoother or more pleasantly than they did at The Computer Place! Most shops take the PC and then are totally silent until its time to pay up; again, hard to stress enough, but the communication from Rand was above and beyond what Ive encountered in the past. Will definitely be returning for any future PC work that needs to be done. Other PC shops take note: this is how you earn a customers repeat business.

I had an older laptop that was running slow with a broken screen and disk drive. Im very pleased with the fix. The new screen works great, the disk drive works great, and we upgraded it to a solid state drive so its now running at speeds more consistent with newer laptops. They even helped me troubleshoot an installation issue I was having with a previously installed program.I will be coming back for all my future computer needs!

Let me preface this by stating that I took my business to The Computer Place initially because of the reviews and history of bad service from another local repair shop. “Hind site is 20/20” because now looking back, the good reviews seem fake and around the same dates as one another. I purchased a replacement cover and hinge cover for my laptop and brought it with me. I was initially advised by Rand Burkey that he would be able to replace it for $50 in a couple of hours. What would be a couple of hours turned to an all day affair and was advised that it would not be ready until the next day and that the price had increased to $90 due to difficulties that he was having replacing the part. Not to mention he kept trying to sell me a hard drive that I didn’t need or ask for. The next day came and he was still unable to replace the piece, however promised to do so. He then calls to tell me he is unable to fix it and blames it being the wrong part, I would have to come and pick up my laptop and he would still charge me $90 for something he could not do, though he promised he could. Upon arriving to pick up my laptop, it was noted that he altered the facing to the screen to attempt to get the part to stay. Not to mention glue residue was noted to the new cover and hinges from him trying to glue the piece on. He kept blaming it on being the wrong piece. He went on about having to rewire the camera and all into the cover and he had never encountered such a difficult issue. He even stated “this is why I sell Dell”. He also kept asking if I brought cash. Seems like all he cared about. Prior to paying I asked him to let me be sure the computer turns on. What do you know? It did not. He had to take it apart in front of me and fix it. Upon paying and giving the laptop to my spouse, he noticed the teeth on the replacement part had also been broken off from Rand attempting to get the hinge cover to attach. My husband went up to him as he was immediately trying to exit the shop to question him and he gave some excuse of the teeth not being necessary. He then dismissed him and stated he had a family emergency and would call me. He did call and text me and stated he would rectify the situation. The next day I informed him, after him texting me trying to still see about fixing what he already could not. I told him I just wanted to be reimbursed for the part that he broke. No answer. I then attempted to get on my computer and upon testing the camera, it did not work. I immediately headed back to The Computer Place and he was not there. I texted, no answer. I called three times and went directly to voicemail. I had my husband call and he immediately picks up. He then tells him he’ll be at his shop in 15. After approx 30 min of waiting he then shows up. He denied avoiding my phone calls or texts. He blamed it on T-mobile’s cell towers. I then tell him the problem with the camera not working and he tells me I have to drop it off and wait for it. I told him that it needed to be fixed right then and there as he was the last person to mess with the camera. I also mentioned the broken part that he should compensate me for. He never offered a refund or anything other than trying to continue to fix it. At this point he has proven to be incompetent and untrustworthy. I advised him that if he did not rectify his shortcomings at that moment, I would have to take him to small claims court. I felt it not right to have to wait even longer for an issue he created. He refused to fix it then and there so now I must resort to other measures. I’ve never encountered such poor business practices. I had been nothing but patient with this person, however my patience has been abused. Poor business and work ethic. Take your business elsewhere.

Rand was awesome from the moment I walked in. He went above and beyond for my computer and kept me updated throughout the whole process. The only place I’ll go to fix my computer in the future, 100%.
