Food was portioned right but lacked seasoning, and the coffee diluted. The waiting staff seem aloof and there was no organization to being seated. We stood by the entrance and placed our names on the list only to realize that they weren’t following it.The whole wait took ~50mins; 20mins to get a table and another 30 to get our food. There was a couple that sat next to us only 5mins apart but got their food when we got the check. We ended here because everywhere else we decided on had a long line for brunch on a weekend. This place certainly has that diner charm so I hope they get things worked out. I’ll probably give them a second chance. ☺️
Im very sorry to say I was not impressed. I ordered the Eggs Florentine. The poached eggs were poached hard. The hollandaise sauce was curdled and without any seasoning whatsoever. The hashbrowns were cooked perfectly, but again without any seasoning. Coffee tasted great. Please see my pictures. I wont be going back and cannot recommend this restaurant.
I ordered chilaquiles through door dash. Im aware that you loose some quality when you order take away, but this is so bad I cant even blame take away. I may have just grown up with the egg cooked onto the chips, but these eggs were not good and the chicken was stated as pulled when it wasnt. Its seasoned well, but in no way tastes like something Id want to eat with this dish. (Maybe with like a pasta or some potatoes but it doesnt mesh here.) Also the chips are obviously store bought and they seemed to sauce the chips with fear, because I can barely taste any flavor in them. All in all this was vastly disappointing.
I love their Egg Omelets, I havent tried anything else yet.
Best place in San Fran to get breakfast. Servings are HUGE and the food is so yummy. The service is amazing. I ate there twice in my 2 days in San Fran.
It was a delicious breakfast and refreshing mimosa.
They are changing their Menu. No more Irish Breakfast. Goodbye Toast. It’s been nice.
Good American breakfast. We had the Toast hashed brown meal. I highly recommend the whole wheat toast.
Quality table service was the highlight of our visit to Toast. My dad and I had gotten donuts from down the street, so we split the house made corned beef hash plate and a bowl of fruit. I thought all of the food was pretty good, but Dad wasnt as impressed. The service, however, was top flight - I never saw the bottom of my water glass. For what its worth, I would definitely come back, maybe for one of the spicier specials.
I used to go to Toast before the pandemic and was usually happy with their food. Especially the Portobello pesto sandwich they had. Except one time I ordered Greek scrambled tofu( supposed to be like scrambled eggs) They do not know how to cook vegetarian food. They tofu was almost raw, no seasonings no olives etc. After the pandemic I decided to go back and was excited about eating an omelette Wich I havent had for years. I ordered a vegetable omelette that was terrible. Swimming in oil and super bland. No seasonings or taste. All I could taste was the horrible oil and the toasts were drenched. What a disappointment. I give it 3 stars because the service was good and my moms french toast were good. Im not sure if Ill be gym back.
Portion sizes were decent though food was a little pricey. Good overall. Waitress seemed disinterested. Atmosphere was nothing special, but it was clean.
Just wanted a simple breakfast that didnt cost an arm and a leg. Unfortunately, the service was disappointing. We had to track down the waitress to order and when found she walked by multiple times before I finally got her attention. We never got silverware or waters and our ordered drinks didnt come until right before the food did. The person delivering the food and drinks did not have a word to say either.. Usually the food makes up for lack of service, however that wasnt the case. The food was sloppy and kind of bland, plus we had to go and get condiments and silverware ourselves. Not the best experience, could have been better for how much we paid to eat there.
Exhilarating experience. Jalapeno burger was hot and the mixed greens was certainly eclectic. Our host/server/busser was upholding a safe dining environment with her facemask, so ultimately Im giving 5 stars regardless.
The service was lack luster, unfortunately. Workers looked like they were gassed. Food was good... until I but into a bunch of egg shell in my Benedict.
Honestly, the service was horrible and the food didnt make up for it. Granted, they were busy and I was in no rush at all so I had no problem waiting. But the server was so rude and snappy. And I wasnt the only one to complain. I had to get my own ketchup and sides for my meal, I never received a water, the table wasnt cleaned and I asked for a Togo bag and received the worse attitude. This place was recommended to me by one of the 4 star local hotels, and I had to tell him that I had a horrible experience and wouldnt recommended that place to anyone especially not on Sunday brunch time.
The best chilaquiles i have had In SF. Everything else was ok
... I ordered sourdough toast with my breakfast, they gave me rye. I immediately brought it to the attention of our waitress. After I was done eating, she asked me if I still wanted the toast. I declined. Then she brought the ticket to the table and refused to deduct a side of toast from it. There was no manager there, and I was forced to pay for something I didnt get. They were severely short staffed, and the food was mediocre at best.
The biggest plus of this place right now (covid) is they have several outdoor dining tables. the staff were very nice. it’s a pretty typical diner, and the food is good but not great, and the price is about expected in SF, maybe a little high.i’d totally come here again to eat outside on a nice day, but i don’t think the food is great enough to ever get takeout or delivery from here.
It was ok. Not the best I have eaten but definitely not the worst. The drinks are bottles drinks as far as coke, sprite, etc. So no refills unless you buy another one.
Top 3 worst diner I’ve been to, just left after waiting 10 minutes for water and to order. Less than 5 customers inside lol
Best breakfast burrito Ive ever had
Simple, good eatery.
Good breakfast and good price
Im very sorry to write this as I live nearby and have ate there for years. Sadly. during the Pandemic their food has gotten very bad. I have thrown away 40 to 50 % of my last 5 take out orders. Eggs all like hard rubber. Burger w bun flat and burnt onone side and fr fries raw potatoes. Very nasty. Male cook looks very unhappy. Cant afford to eat there any more. Food has turned too bad. You can tell when a cook is just throwing stuff together to get a paycheck and does not care about the customers. 5 bad orders in a row. ?
Great food and great service. Never have any issues when I eat there
Just ate outside and a cockroach walked up my table close to my food. I was disgusted and couldnt eat anymore. Made me wonder if they get the place sprayed for pests. Food was mediocre at best and waitress who helped me seemed over it. Not a good experience which was a bummer.
This diner is way overpriced for subpar diner fare.
Good... service could be better
Last weekend I ordered from toast on polk street. I picked up the order, everything was fabulous. This afternoon I ordered some breakfast the same thing I ordered last week. Not as happy this time, the hash browns were too crunchy on top yet soggy in the middle. And the french toast was under cooked. I still enjoy toast and I will return. Just disappointed this once.
Staff is friendly and the booths are comfy. The google maps description for the place uses the term lofty, which I dont get since the ceilings werent high, nor was it actually a loft. So Ive removed a star for improper use of the word.Food was OK. I got the lox Benedict. Not the best hollandaise or English muffin, but certainly far from the worst. Other dishes looked better/more tasty. Id probably go back again if I was nearby.
My favorite breakfast side. Also good for a heavy meal. Healthy and tasty items with perfect materials. Caring about customers health is very good. A far better environment that other restaurants near this price range. Good for medium budget customers.
Not worth your money, breakfast had no taste at all, plain food.
Great breakfast spot
Service wasnt great, food was ok.
Not good customer service food burnt
Always liked this place. Good food & service, however, Just came from there today for a take out order and was surprise to find no one else waiting. Then the guy cooking was talking very loudly and constantly while he cooked. He had his mask pulled down away from his mouth the whole time..cooking and talking..over the food!!Never again.
Great service
I went in because as I was looking at the menu on the outside, a gentleman who was leaving placed his hand on the back of my arm and said, go on in and get yours brother! That excitement drew me in. This little hole in the wall is diner style restaurant. I was more than satisfied. Great staff, very quick order and food. Just came here because i was nearby and it was a great decision
Great Food, imaginative menu, prompt friendly staff all on point the other morning for breakfast on Polk St during an impromptu stay in San Francisco. The place has booths and tables and is situated on a bright corner in great part of Polk St. The corned beef hash wss the real thing and cooked just right. The french toast is another great dish- light, airy and sweetened magically.Check it out a great stop if you are in and around the area.
Wanted to write TOAST but there wasn’t an email on their website. Just wanted to suggest they change their hollandaise recipe. Had the Blackstone Benedict and the sauce was completely flavorless. A super flavorful one is Barefoot Contessa (Ina Garten). Would take the entree’s to the next level. Hopefully this feedback contributes to their continued success.
Good french toast. not great. 3 stars
Tasty bacon and eggs breakfast. I had the combo with waffle, which was cooked perfectly, but was little waffle pieces, not a single big waffle. It was nothing out of the ordinary, it was a solid good breakfast place with very good staff. Our guy was quick with the service, just the right amount of attentive, and a very cool person.
The service is a it pacing... yet, rest assure its wo worth it!! Best Huevos Rancheros; French toast!! Coffee!!!!!
This was my first time eating here and it didnt disappoint. I had two eggs, French toast, hash browns and bacon. I was so glad that I chose to give them a try. Our waitress was very friendly and gave great menu suggestions. Ill be back to try something new on their menu.
Great breakfast. Eggs Benedict and eggs Florentine are my favorites but everything is good including the coffee. Portions are generous and the price is better than expected. Wait staff is really nice. Love my breakfast here.
Really great breakfast! Ordered the Polk Omelet. The omelet had cheese, spinach, onion, and fresh avocado slices. It also came with hashbrowns and choice of toast! Highly recommend!😊
It was a bad experience overall. The food was cold and greasy, as for the service, we genuinely felt like every request was seen as bothersome by the waitress.
Went there at 8:00 am for a breakfast. Chicken fried steak and over easy eggs with hash browns. The eggs were cooked perfectly and that was all that was good about the food. The chicken fried steak was over cooked and very tough to eat. The hash browns were still in the square block they came out of the box in and cold in the middle. There was not enough gravy to soften up the food service steak patty. Even the English muffin was burnt and cold. Skip this overpriced, tasteless, poorly cooked fare and go to Dennys.
I can’t remember what I ordered but it was good! The service is fast and friendly. The staff moves quickly, very accommodating.I have been to a couple of different locations and the food and service were consistent!
French toast was mushy, the hash browns were simultaneously wet and burned which tells me the griddle was way too hot and somehow the eggs tasted terrible as well. Go to McDonalds for a better breakfast.
I used to come here twice a week when I lived in SF. That was about six months ago. I went back for the first time since moving today and Ive gotta say... Im disappointed. They changed the menu completely - while updating a menu is usually a good venture for a business this new one limits their wonderful potential. The food was okay. I honestly could have made something better at home. No offense but it could have come out of McDonalds from the taste and similarities to their breakfast.Toast was such an amazing place to eat. Its changed completely. If youre looking for a decent priced place to eat - and you dont care if its not the best breakfast ever - this is the place to go.
I met my cousin for breakfast and was not disappointed. I had the Godfather omelet which came with hash browns and toast. All the ingredients were fresh and the omelet was huge and delicious. Ill be back
I was recommended to try this cafe for breakfast and have not been disappointed! The food is delicious and fresh. The coffee very enjoyable. The staff are always friendly and service is quick! Will be back again for sure!
What a ripoff! Bland, tasteless food. Under salted, soggy hash browns. Really expensive too.
Great simple breakfast spot, I had the Grilled cheese and fries, which were simple and tasty...friend had avocado toast with eggs and bacon, he enjoyed it very much. Bacon was nice crispy, and not too greasy or burnt, done just right! Quaint little place, small but very enjoyable!
I went here a few times. The service is quite fast and well organized and the waiters are very friendly. The place itself is not very pretentious and it looks like a classic diner. The food is very good and it strongly exceeded my expectations. The first time I went there they confused our order but I came back other times and never had any issues. Its perfect for breakfast, lunch or brunch
Good food, fair prices and good customer service
I was in the neighborhood to run an errand and was trying to find a place that had delicious omelets with hashbrowns and not home fries.Found this place and was not disappointed. Great food for a great price and great service as well.
I had the Polk Street omelet and it was really good. The egg to filling ratio was perfect. The hash browns were nice and crispy on the outside and soft inside. I would definitely go back!
Rude people work here
This was difficult to choose between four and five stars. The staff greeted us as soon as we walked in, friendly, fast service, but not obnoxious and over the top. The menu had a good variety, mostly standard breakfast and lunch items, a few unique items. I chose the corned beef breakfast, my boyfriend chose chicken fried steak. We also got a short stack on the side, perfect portion sizes. A little overpriced but it is San Fran.Nothing super special I suppose about this spot but it was tasty!
Covid19 takeout: I got the burger with curly fries and everything was good. They use sweet pickles instead of dill which is not a good idea. I live close by so everything was still fresh and hot enough to enjoy.Covid19 takeout 5/21/20: Chicken sandwich was good. UPDATE 5/26/20: Got the sandwich again and it was gross. The bread (regular toasted white, not ciabatta) was soggy and the curly fries were burnt. CHECK YOUR FOOD BEFORE YOU LEAVE.Covid19 takeout 5/22/20: Got the jalapeno burger with onion rings and it was gross. The burger bun was a wet mess and the jalapenos were a bad take on a burger. The onion rings were thick and crumbly. I wouldnt order either one takeout again, especially since the onion rings are an extra $3. They should pay us to eat them.
Great food
The place is nice however they close very early (4pm), we were also hoping to get a latte around 3:30 and couldn’t because they had already cleaned the machine so the time overall sucks. However our server was nice, we ordered a salmon sandwich with onion rings the onion rings were delicious I recommend them, however the portion of the sandwich was relatively small. I also ordered a burrito with hash brows the burrito wasn’t bad but I’d get something else next time instead. They also have seating outside which is nice we sat at a booth though.Prices are also not that cheap but affordable so to say, however I don’t think you’re getting your money’s worth since most of the items aren’t that intricate, I’d recommend going to squat and gobble instead for the same price.
Great brunch spot! The grandfather omelet is definitely a must. Combine it with some hash browns and iced coffee and youve got yourself a punch.I like how this is one of the few spots without a long line. However, it can get rather toasty inside, so try to sit near the outside if possible. Inside near the kitchen will get very hot.Great service as well - Jorge was attentive, and refilled our iced coffees quickly to keep us cool. While I ordered egg whites, and they delivered egg with yolk, thats no big deal.Ill come back for my omelette, breakfast burrito, and iced coffee!
Excellent food! Excellent service. Our waitress asked the 4 of us upfront if we wanted to have separate checks, which was a big plus for us.The hash brown hill is more of a mound than a hill, but with an order of sausage it filled me up. If you order it with egg, it is only one egg. I would have preferred two for the price. The burrito was also amazing. It is gigantic, so be prepared to eat a lot.I would definitely come here again!
We love toast, great breakfast steak and eggs is our go to menu item! Reasonable portion to price ratio for the area, friendly staff.
Quick and friendly staff, tasty diner eats! My spring greens were a little on the soggy side, probably shouldve ordered without dressing, also, it was a hot day. French dip was great, but couldve used horseradish. Overall, great experience!
Come here for a non processed breakfast. Love it. Great food with affordable prices.
Biscuit & Gravy!
Service and atmosphere are laid back and relaxed. Food is firmly in the only ok territory. Its not bad, but certainly not special. Overall I always enjoy trip.
Love their food, nice atmosphere, and lovely customer service. Highly recommended
The restaurant says they will open at 7. After waiting for 20minutes with people inside no one opened the door. Ended up not having time to go elsewhere and even though woke up an hour early to get breakfast at Toast went to work without eating. The service is usually pretty bad but this is enough to make us not want to come back. Many other diners in the city! Including on Polk st.
Fast service. Good good. Good prices. Amazing for what it is. I recommend the breakfast burrito. Definitely worth a try if you like breakfast food
Very good, decent price, quick.
Fine place for breakfast. Good service and an excellent atmosphere.
Great portion sizes!! Comfy booths and the bar and tables have bag hooks. Definitely coming here again..I went on a Tuesday morning and it was very quiet and relaxed.
Toast is a fine place for any meal. Servers are real people, treat you reasonably well. My food got to me fast. I enjoyed it a lot. I was very hungry. I paid my bill, left a reasonable tip and went off with my day. The food is good but just being there on upper Polk St. means that things aint gonna be cheap! Its SF, after all. My breaky cost about twelve bucks, all told, which is quite reasonable Im told. Check it out if you want a great breaky. Good luck to you and yours.
