It’s nice to have a fine food shop in my own neighborhood. That’s what Cheese Plus is to me.I can stroll over and find products from all over the world. Charcuterie, condiments and sweets. But where this place shines is the cheese selection of course.You can approach the cold case or refrigerated section and pick up what you want. You can get advice from the cheese staff based on your taste. Or the shop can compose a cheese platter for your home or for a gift. They also have a Cheese of the Month club and can ship anywhere in the country. Choices, choices.I often stop by because CP does nicely composed sandwiches; has a coffee takeout window; and sells tasty pastries from local bakeries. You could almost say this shop is a triple plus!The owner told me today Cheese Plus has been here in Russian Hill for 15 years! Wow!For the quality, variety and family-like ambiance, let’s give it our support.

I’m so glad I live out of townI stumbled on this place just looking to get some cheese while visiting San Francisco. The selection of cheese is extraordinary. Not to mention, crackers, wine, olive oil, vinegars, etc. the staff is knowledgeable and helpful. If this store was near where I live, Idaho, I’d be 100 lbs overweight and broke. If you love cheese, this store is a must visit. Bring a large bag.

This is great cheese and gourmet food place in SF. Start know their cheeses and provide great advise. The place also have a solid selection of 🥪 sandwiches too

I went in to find a truffle cheese and eventually got it! But I think I was in there for 20+ minutes couldn’t get any help. The minute my boyfriend walked in multiple workers walked up and offered to help us. Great selection of cheese, so I’ll give it another shot at some point.

Almost 40 min wait time, loud construction going on across the street. When I finally got my sandwich it was on burnt stale bread. Probably never going to come back here which is a shame because I live in the neighborhood. Sad to see bad service when you’re trying to support local stores and cafes. The guys working there seemed like they resented me even ordering a sandwich. People who arrived after me were served before I was so not sure what the reason for such hostile treatment is 🤷🏻‍♂️

I was staying at a hotel next door so stopped here for lunch my first day. I had the Thanksgiving sandwich. It was delicious. Everything was fresh and the bread amazing. Service was quick and lots of good things in the store. Dining is outside which is nice this time of year

Super cozy neighborhood shop, known for extensive cheese selection, and made to order sandwiches.Staff is really nice. I was looking around the wine section. The gentleman (Peter) listened to my preference, recommended a bottle, and told me if I try at home and dont like it, I can bring the bottle back for a full refund. The most important part - that was a cheap $13 bottle, and he still offered the nicest service.As to the sandwich, I ordered grilled #2 Willie brown bird that comes with smoked duck breast. The sandwich is divine for 1. Perfect grilled golden brown bread (see picture) 2. Properly picked onion 3. The sweetness from fig blends all flavor together.Price is on the higher end. But considering the location, its understandable.

Perfection!They are safely serving from a sidewalk-up order window, and have created clear barriers between tables. They work great to keep the wind out too!I cant wait to come back for a sandwich to go!

This place is great. They have really good products, and even though they are high end, the prices are not so bad. They have amazing sandwiches with good quality ingredients for reasonable prices. There are chocolates, oils, wines, and a full deli. People are cheerful and helpful.There has been a nice parklet for a long time, and now they have tables outside and even a handwash station.

The ultimate neighborhood fromagerie. A wide and carefully curated range of fine cheeses, charcuterie, wines, and gourmet ingredients, many of which can be found in their fabulous deli sandwiches. They have been leaders in supporting their staff and implementing Covid mitigation measures throughout the pandemic and can easily facilitate socially distanced exchanges through curbside orders. WOW. Cheese Plus floored me. One of the best cheese shops Ive ever visited, no questions asked.I was a cheesemonger at two really excellent stores in Los Angeles and the Bay Area, and you can tell right off the bat when you walk into a place of quality. The diversity of cheeses. How readably available they are (or more importantly, how rare), the selection of creameries and affineurs, how ripe, how healthy, how the cheeses are wrapped, how theyre displayed, how theyre stored, whats for sample, why. Cheese Plus was checking every single box before I even started to the mongers.And when it comes to the mongers, they are bad ass, full stop. I could have stayed for hours talking about what they have and what theyve had it with. They know everything in stock (a prerequisite), but also whats in season, whats good at the moment, what pairs well with what, the story behind every cheese including its maker, region, and even the breed of cow, sheep, goat, or buffalo the milk is coming from. Its dedication and care for the craft that I rarely see, and its totally awesome.Naturally cheese does not exist in a universe by itself, and it happens to go well with other things, such as beer! And beer Cheese Plus has. It is a small selection, just about one refrigerator full, but its curated by one of the mongers (Sam) and is absolutely bitchin. Theres a beer for any kind of palate or preference with a history and recommendation lovingly attached to every single one. Due to the small scale of selection and orders that Sam can control, he can source some of the best beer from any location (regardless of typical distribution limits) that you wouldnt be able to find otherwise.As a final illustrative example of the kind of place this is, when checking out my cashier took a look at one of my beers and said, I had that with a spiced cake, it was beautiful. These people care and appreciate, that is a beautiful thing.Shout out to Skippy who was one of the most informed mongers Ive ever run into. There is joy in Cheese Plus. Check it out.

We ordered a cheese plate and enjoyed it on the sidewalk/parklet seating. One of the cheese mongers explained the cheeses to us. Fun and inexpensive... and very tasty!

This place is very lovely and is the most welcoming shop Ive found in the area. Iove trying the samples and exploring all the fancy things. Its very fun to see a special ingredient in a recipe book or YouTube video and feel confident that cheese plus has it there. The staff is very knowledgeable and super helpful as well!

Great selection and staff. Went in for some cheese to make Tartiflette, walked out with some Nickajack by Sequatchie Cove. Came out perfectly!

Every single item in this store is unbelievably wonderful. The cheese selection is unparalleled. Fantastic cold cuts and sandwiches and delicious deserts. The staff are so friendly and helpful.

Expect them to get your sandwich order right, but completely botch your cheese order. Only popular due to it being the primary cheese place in the Polk area. Would not recommend, but the sandwich was fine, service and overall experience is OK, but not worth the wait.It’s overrated, but I guess if you’re stuck in Polk it’s your best bet for cheese & sandwiches. I will admit they’re very friendly here, just disorganized and maybe under staffed.

I had an amazing experience at this store. It’s a great stop for a special treat. My friend and I got the cheese box which was only $15 for a lot of goodies. We were pleasantly surprised to open the box and find the cheeses and also bread, crackers, fig jam, almonds, and some dried fruits. The woman at the counter was very helpful and accommodating to us. We also had some sparkling lemonade from the store which was delightful. Overall it made our picnic to the painted ladies a memorable trip with the tasty treats.

I loved this place! Im from Wisconsin and have been involved in manufacturing cheese for over 2 decades. The staff is top notch and taught me a ton. Dont walk past this store!

Great selection of cheese and cheese pairing items.

Great for cheese, sandwiches, fancy snacks and gifts for the foodie in your life. It can get crowded around lunch time on the weekends and you may have to wait 20-30 mins for your sandwich, but if you have the time, the quality is worth the wait. Charcuterie is also amazing to split, and perfect to bring along on a date in the park or beach. Prairie breeze (white cheddar) is also a personal favorite. It’s addicting. There’s a reason it’s always showcased right next to the checkout.

Lovely store with a selection of delicatassen items and Acme bread too! Their sandwiches look delicious but I havent tried them. The staff are warm and welcoming, and happy to offer suggestions if you ask

This place is the best. They have a great selection of cheeses, and the employees there are very knowledgeable and let you sample often.Their sandwiches are awesome and are a decent size for the price. Ive only had their coffee once, but it was convenient to grab it from their walk-up window outside.

Im not exaggerating when I say the Potrero Hill sandwich is best thing I have ever eaten in my entire life. I would eat it every day for all my meals if I could.Im not one to be hyperbolic, but this sandwich is LIFE. Best coffee in town. Equator and Blue Bottle coffee I think are the 2 best roasters/suppliers at least in the downtown area. I personally prefer Equator. Incredible sandwiches. The grilled cheese sandwich is one of the best Ive ever had. Very friendly staff. I love this place.

Cheese Plus truly cares about the community. The people working there are friendly. It is a great place to just walk in, try some samples, look at a large variety of food and get the products to cook what you feel inspired to eat today.

Some fun imported items here as long as you arent too price conscious. The staff is always very helpful with the meats and cheeses but the sandwich station gets a little messy.

Worst place i have ever been too. I stood at the order counter for 20 minutes before someone came to take my order. Just to be told i need to wait another half hour for the order.Did not get any apology just a take it or leave it attitude.Worst place ever. Would never ever come here again!

Loved this place!!! Im lactose intolerant and asked if they had any cheese aged over 1 year that likely had little lactose. They spend half and hour with my group offering tastings of a ton of options. We had so much fun and the cheeses were so delicious that I ended up buying a bunch of cheese for snacks on hiking tails. I would easily go here again and bring my friends.

Cheese Plus is a cute gem of mine. One particular reason, my SO, surprisingly knew how much I love wine, cheese, deli meats, gourmet cookies, etc. With excellent taste and keen eye, he found this little place that had everything for us to pack into a picnic basket and whisk me away to a secret destination that he had planned out.Let me tell you! The nice gentleman working the deli and cheese counter was super friendly and knowledgeable about everything. My SO and I were able to taste a few cheeses here and there, also provided great recommendations to pair our cheeses, nuts, jam, deli meats, and other goodies with our wines.After browsing and tasting a few things here and there, we also ordered their gourmet sandwiches to go. My-oh-my! They sure know how to pack so much meat into a sandwich. Yum I tell ya! Dont leave without buying a small bag of homemade cookies that sits nearby the cash register. Those were a nice treat to take with us and nibble on while I was being surprised on a nice picnic getaway to somewhere! :)I adore this cute cheese shop. Youd expect a high end cheese shop in one of the premiere food cities to have a huge selection, high quality product, knowledgeable employees and the price that comes with it.Youd be right on all accounts.The clerk behind the counter helped me pick out a nice variety that was a pretty big hit with my taste buds.I do wish they had a larger store for even more variety, but given the rental prices in SF, this is understandable.A great place for snackage.

The Cheese Guru behind the counter welcomed me with a big smile when I asked if they sold Muenster cheese (I kinda knew they wouldnt have that, but that was where my mind was...) She inquired as to what I would be doing. (Petite Syrah, girlfriend, casual) And then used my initial question to make her suggestion. In no time at all, I had a sample, a description and a very yummy cheese with exactly the consistency I was looking for. Repeat x2. Salami- Repeat, different woman, same fun energy and knowledge.Not only did I love the samples, but I was also really impressed at the amount of cheese she chose to give me. It was the perfect amount for two women having a light cheese snack.I will absolutely go back. Although I love whole foods too, and have always found them pleasant enough, I would go here on a weekend just to enjoy the shop and people. Really, a standout job today

This is a great shop for buying cheese and deli meats. Service is outstanding, they are always ready to explain and help you choose, and often allow you to sample before buying. They also sell wine, pasta, and other items. I definitely recommend a visit.

The willie brown bird sandwich at cheese plus literally changed my life. Before I had no confidence and hated my life. Then I had this sandwich and the fig chutney with golden raisins hit my palate and I had a new outlook on life. The tanginess of the onions combined with the slight saltiness of the duck and provolone will make you whole as a person. Putting the whole thing on Dutch crunch solidified my confidence in cheese plus as an American institution. Eat. This. Sandwich. Now.

I found my favourite wine from France, today forever love Peter! He even offered to order the other one for me but I tried what he had and loved it! Suprised by the many options here! Will definitely be back!

I was craving a gourmet grilled cheese so badly that I stopped into Cheese Plus to check it out. I picked out a Red Dragon England cheese spotted with mustard seeds and was able to get it cut down to a smaller size (for both my mouth and wallet). It was amazing on some grilled toast with tomato! The staff was friendly and the store is laid out and very boutiquey. A great place to get gorgeous flowers, fresh baked breads and cute foodie gifts.

Fantastic cheeses and deli meats along with a zillion little bottles of delicious spreads and sauces. Plus the staff are really nice. Works as a destination, but even better as your neighborhood store.

Just moved to the neighborhood and remember this place having the most amazing grilled cheese sandwiches.... was passing by with a cranky 2yo because he was starving and it was close to bedtime so decided to get something to go quickly. Lovely staff at the cheese tasting and sand which bar and the gentleman who showed me around the ship. When paying, my only card with me is being declined because I had a new inactived card at home waiting and my wallet was in my other jacket. I’m asking if I can pay with Venmo or PayPal or pass by first thing in the morning to pay, only to get an extremely passive agressive response on how that’s not how things are done in this shop. Little did it help to explain that I’m almost 8 months pregnant and my husband is on business travel and just having a rough moment.... I had given my son a piece of the cheese i was buying and was now unable to pay for... Thanks for pointing out that you have plenty of customers with 2yo’s who know better and that it’s not ok to consume anything without paying. I was not intentionally trying to complicate things for you, I was just trying to get through a moment and find a solution to a situation which upset me just as much. A little kindness and empathy would’ve went a long way. Maybe a 1 Star doesn’t represent the quality of the produce and the customer service more broadly speaking but it represents the personal experience I had received and how unwelcome and humiliated I left the shop.

Excellent specialty food and cheese selection, amazing sandwiches, wonderful wines, and the best service.

I love this place so much! They are really knowledgable about cheese and will let you taste anything that you are considering buying. They also sell olive oils, which you can taste too, as well as a respectable selection of chocolates (I would recommend the Raphio clementine bar! Dandelion is also a good bet). They have some nice fresh pastas and ravioli, and Acme bread!

Good sandwiches but a SF price for a sandwich

It seems that this gourmet sandwich and specialty foods store is often overlooked as an option for lunch on a busy Polk Street. Perhaps its the name that keeps crowds away?The sandwiches are excellent although a maybe tad on the pricey side. But where else can you get duck with fig chutney and provolone toasted on dutch crunch?

5 stars for the people that work there, they were very nice. But 1 star for the people that shop there. Wow they were annoying and entitled in the rudest way possible.

If you are looking for a wide variety of cheese options, this is the shop for you. They have some of the best cheeses in SF that you cant find anywhere else. In addition, they sell some high quality olive oils, balsamic vinegars, wines and they have a great sandwich counter.

Crissy Field was pretty good. The 2 star rating is directly tied to the poor service--25 minutes for two sandwiches? And the non chalant attitude of the staff. Lastly, my friend found a HAIR in her grilled cheese. Wouldnt recommend to anyone unless you enjoy waiting and hairs in your meals.
