Review written in 2018, updated to rephrase.Heads up for travellers:This google location page doesnt specify it, but when you go during the hours, you run a higher risk of not being able to go in than your average shop (as is the case with any volunteer run bookstore - aka all anarchist bookstores anywhere).Unfortunately, the shop was closed when I went. I was there during their posted business hours but the sign on the door said that its volunteer run and sometimes people dont show up.As someone only in town for a few days, I had been looking forward to it the whole trip but didnt think to leave a buffer day in case it wasnt open the day I went. Writing this so hopefully it doesnt happen to you too!

A wonderful wonderful collection of anarchist and other books. A trip to SF is not complete without visiting this one. Apart from regular offers, theres an array of $2 titles proceeds of which go to buy free books for prisoners.

A great, cozy store with a fair selection of both anarchist related and counter-culture books rarely seen elsewhere along with the ubiquitous beat writers. The volunteer working during my visit was both friendly and non-intrusive. Come buy something and keep this historical place going!

This place shouldn’t blindly follow politics without having some actual knowledge behind their comments. Insulting to see their storefront signs.

Are you unhappy that Donald Trump is our “president”? Do you resent the lack of support by our government towards anyone who isn’t a rich, white, heterosexual, cis dude? Do you want to expand your mind and worldview? Then this is the place for you! Support this bookstore with your money, your hours, your voice. These are the places the resistance must keep alive.

Great selection, support team volunteers who donate their time by visiting and making a purchase. There are books for $1-$2 which donate books for prisonets.

A cozy bookstore. A staff member of our shop is a volunteer, so please refrain from theft of books.
