Update. After the response from the owner Im changing to 2 stars.I waited overnight to make sure I felt the same today.Yes. I do.Your comment implying I cant afford something is idiotic at best.Just because I dont want to spend 70-90$ on a college shirt is not an indication of whether I can fit it in my budgetWhat an asinine comment.Good selection.Prices are absolutely insane for apparel.

On 4/21/21, I placed an in-person order at the Utech Campus Store for a laptop. I made some customizations to the level of storage in the laptop, so I was told I would need to wait about 2 weeks for the laptop to arrive.By 5/11/21, I still hadnt heard anything about my order. I called, and was told that it would likely come in within the next week. Ok, no problem. I wished they would have sent me an email updating me on that, but oh well.By 5/26/21, I had heard no updates about my order. I called again, and was told that they would expedite the order, which would mean I should expect it in... another two weeks. Sure.On 6/3/21, I finally received the email that my laptop had arrived! All I needed to do now was to go to the campus store to pick it up. This was on a Thursday, and the next time my schedule would allow me to go there was on the following Saturday. The email stated that the campus store is open from 11:00am-4:00pm on Saturdays, so I arrived at 1 pm on that Saturday, only to find that, in fact, the campus store was not open at all that day due to it being their summer hours. It would have been nice if the email I received specified the actual hours I could expect the store to be open before I drove all the way up there.Today, 6/7/21, I again visited the store to finally pick up my laptop. The store was open, and I told the associates in the Utech area that I was there to pick up a laptop I had ordered. They told me I actually needed to do that upstairs, in the area you pick up textbooks. I went upstairs, and spoke to the associates there, who, after looking everywhere, told me that I actually would need to pick up my order in the Utech area, unless they had sent me upstairs? Oh they had? They searched a little longer, then an associate from upstairs walked me back to the Utech area, spoke to another associate in that area, and they at last found my laptop downstairs.I want to be clear that at every step in the process, every person I spoke to was respectful and seemed to genuinely want to help. But there seems to be a breakdown in communication between this Utech, the rest of the campus store, and their customers that ultimately led me to have a lengthy and confusing experience.I also want to be clear that my experience ordering textbooks or other products from this store has always been a positive and straightforward one. Its only this order from Utech that I have had such difficulty with.

Ordered something in November, was told it would take 5 weeks to get here, that was fine. I wait 5 weeks and call to check the status, turns out they never ordered it so I had to wait another 5 weeks from then for my computer to show up.When I first called, the supervisor said he would give me a discount for my troubles, all I had to do was come down so they could load my card. I go there a couple days later, which takes around an hour, and the supervisor says it was a mistake and he cant give me a discount. They could have called and told me, as they had my number because they were suppose to call me when my computer showed up, but they didnt.Just bad customer service.

Was scammed out of $60 last semester. this is the last place I would go to get books. Brought back one of my “rental” books and was told I had purchased it. Go get used books off Chegg for $12 and save yourself from the bookstore employees interrogating you about why you didn’t double check if you could rent the book or not. Your employee at the time of renting put a rental sticker on it and told me I was renting it. Sorry I didn’t think to contest that.

Being a student, Im partial to the campus store at the U, but having been to various stores at higher education institutions, this one is admittedly nicer than some. The variety of notebooks, pens, pencils and other stationary materials is quite good. I especially appreciate the fact that the store carries Leuchterm 1918 notebooks over Moleskin. Starbucks is good in the store. Staff is wonderful. Lastly, the technology section of the store could use some merchandising panache, but overall has a reasonable selection, keeping in mind its primary purpose (Education over Entertainment)

An anecdote thats very relevant: we went to Arches National Park and nowhere around there did we find better merchandise about it than the bookstore at the U has. Also, if you have children that are interested in science or art, youll have a very hard time finding supplies for them if the bookstore wasnt an option. It was easier in San Antonio, TX to find lenses for a microscope than it is in the entire Salt Lake Valley. This is my go-to for that sort of thing.

Store itself is fine, but Utech gets a fat 0. Pricing is almost 50% more expensive for the same products, their used and old model year laptops are sold for 10% off MSRP. Last semester (spring 2014), I rented only book there and the day I went to return it, the guy who happened to receive the book assured that I didnt need need the receipt. Well, at the beginning of this semester, I received a notification that I still owed the book. I ignored it because I thought it was simply a mistake. Well today I received a letter warning me that if I didnt return the book they would take punitive action... I was shocked. I called them and they, of course, they said that the book doesnt appear on their records, whatever. And obviously, I didnt have the blessed receipt. What else could I do? Of course, Im under the threat of punitive action, which I cant afford and I had to pay the book plus the fine, what else could they have done? So, of course I will never ever set a foot there during the rest of my career. Ill pay more elsewhere rather then going there who stole my money, because thats what they did. And of course they do it with students who are struggling to pay for their education. If you happen to go there and rent a book, DEMAND the people who work there to give you the blessed receipt that they received the book, it seems they do it on purpose to take your money...Hope you enjoy my money U bookstore!

The campus store is poorly managed, cheats students and staff out of money for products they promise will be in and do not arrive until months later. They never order enough of the University of Utah-specific textbooks, even when explicitly told by professors that all students will need a copy and they are the sole producers of the books. Don’t bother with their sales or textbooks; it’s always more of a hassle than it’s actually worth.
