Well stocked store, had what I was looking for.

Waited forever at the firearm counter to just be told I couldn’t purchase the gun. My husband and I previously went to a couple of different locations but they didn’t have the particular gun I wanted. I called this location before making the drive and when we got there my husband asked for the gun as I was consolidating my infant. Gary who claims to be a manager, never asked him for his ID prior to handling the gun. In the other locations they asked before we handled any gun. He said he didn’t ask my husband for his ID because he approached him as capable of buying the gun but when we told him the gun was for me so I was purchasing the gun under my name, he said he couldn’t sell me the gun. My husband would have to purchase it under his name and gift to me if he wished to. Austin, who made a review 5 months ago stated he couldn’t buy the gun to gift to his sister after waiting 1 1/2 hr. So which is it? Gary was very unprofessional and rude. He first makes you wait forever and then approaches you as if he’s forced to because there is a line to then tell you he can’t sell you the firearm. This location seems to have a reputation of not having good customer service in selling firearms. Save the trip and drive to Bass Pro Shop which is just down the street.

Im new to the south and Ive already been to academy about ten times. Great value for camping gear and sports equipment. My only complaint is last time I was in, there was a big regional manager in and everyone was fawning over me as he was in their vicinity, yet when I went up to check out there were 14 staff members hanging out add only 1 person checking folks out. I think there should be a little more attention to the customers and less attention to kissing butt. But I still enjoy shopping here.

The manager was very helpful in choosing a good bike for my daughter. Even their staff were courteous and friendly. Dont forget to check their website for good deals/discounts.

Don’t shop here for too long or else they’ll think you’re stealing and have just about every employee in that store follow you and your family around. Lady found some broken off tags in the Nike section and stared straight directly at my family as if it was us. Like come one we’re not the only ones who have walked through a section with a well known brand. They had nothing better to do but make us feel uncomfortable. Thanks for that academy.

I really enjoy going to Academy and looking around. They carry a variety of sports equipment and carry the top of the line brands. They are also pet friendly.

Horrible customer experience. Waited 15 minutes at gun counter and 2 associates had the, let’s call it intuition, that I might need help. Unfortunately they told me I had to wait because they were too busy playing with a handheld device. After 5 more minutes, they call another associate to assist at the gun counter. Of course, my patience have worn thin and I decide Bass Pro or Cabella’s can have my business. Academy Management: you really need to focus in engraining customer service best practices with your staff. When you have more employees in the store than you have customers and customers are having to wait, not a great experience.

Every year I have to go to multiple locations to try to get my fishing license because either the person that issues them isnt there that day or the machine doesnt work. Academy was the first place that the machine didnt work but they called somebody fixed it right there because the manager knew what he was doing and got my license for me and my wife on the same day. Also this is where I get my Skechers work boots and shoes

Well organized and clean store. Came in here after a shopping disaster at the Mesquite location. Found what I needed 100% satisfied

It was fine. We were looking for ladies tennis skirts. We were hoping to find Nike ones. They seem to only have BCG. Very limited selection of ladies tennis skirts. However, they were a reasonable price.

Friendly staff, everything I ever want is in stock and aside from the shoe area looking like chaos with things thrown around it is a great place for our families needs.

I went there to buy my daughter a bike. I knew what size of bike to buy my daughter. But the employee who was helping me, insisted the size was to big of a bike for her. I didnt appreciate the way he handled the situation. Also the bike was a little damaged and the manager only give me 5% off. Which I think was a bit low for the damage on the bike. This was the first time going to an Academy store, and might be the last. Definitely not a good first impression.

Sheila was very helpful checking me out and asked if I needed help carrying my heavy item to the car, she asked Mark to carry it out and he was very polite and friendly.

Big like department store for sports. My wife needed a pair of shoes. The young woman who helped us, Alexis, was VERY helpful. I have been in Texas 5 years now and all my Missouri friends say Youre not a Texan until you have cowboy boots and a ten gallon hat. Sooo...I tried on boots. Pretty good selection, and of course the ones I needed were on top shelf and Alexis had to get a ladder. I left w/o boots but bought a pair of casual semi-dressy loafers. And yes, Alexis had to climb that ladder again. They also have ammo for a couple of hours after the supply wagon arrives. Some hungry men line up at 6:30ish A.M. to buy, but each person is allowed only 2 boxes per day. I do not like shopping, but this was not an unpleasant experience!! Thanks to helpful Alexis!

Found what I was looking for. A canopy and good price $44.

I went to the academy the “Sports + Outdoors” store for a nice women’s collared polo-style shirt to play golf in only to find they have a huge men’s golf section and not one women’s golf shirt. A little bit ridiculous to see. Definitely will not be back.

Good experience. Picked up an equipment bag for baseball and a batting tee. Staff was friendly, store was clean and easy to navigate. Would recommend.

Perfect, great granddaughter bought bathing suit, I got sport bras and husband bought a 22 so everyone got what they wanted.

Very good location with plenty of parking. It has quite a few handicap spots up near the front for those who need it. The mask is a requirement and I stand behind that. When I went in it was mid afternoon so it was slow with no crowds. It looked low on stock. I did not see any ammo. The shelves were empty without ammunition. I noticed they were very low on weapons too. 5 stars but low on merchandise.

Was only there for pool salt, but everyone was quite helpful. Plenty of 9mm and .223 on the shelf.

Went in to buy a shot gun for my sister as a gift. Waited a 1h 30m to get told it could not be sold to me. Thy said it would be a straw sale. All I got to say Is if I was gunna be told I cant buy the gun as a gift then could they do that right then and there? Not a 1h 30m in to the background check.

I bought a grill today from the store in Rockwall and when I got it home which is 150 miles away, the temperature gage was broken. I called the store and talked to a manager name Gary and he went out of his way to find a replacement and send it to me in the mail! That my friends is great customer service!!!

I came to look for some new TaylorMade irons for the golf season to come I was extremely unimpressed with academies golf section they did not show any irons a few clubs mostly balls and dress wear so Im going to Dicks and look at getting a new set of TaylorMade irons there if not Amazon

Oddly enough they had all the ammo I was looking for today

Literally no ammo in stock besides 12 gauge. I know it’s Covid madness and all but why not account for higher demand when it comes to your suppliers? Got a great deal on new sneakers though.

Mason, a sales associate, made my wife and I feel extremely unwelcome with his flippant attitude and snarky demeanor. He was condescending and demeaning towards us when we asked where some apparel items were. No more shopping at this location, or Academy for me. Other retailers have earned my business because of the lack of customer service at this Academy.

Very disappointed they are not stocking products and the store was a mess. They did not have any of the list of items we were looking for that have been regularly stocked items before.

Very helpful and friendly, great service

Easy to find using Google maps and the parking and access was great. The store wasnt crowded. I came here for a fishing license and was directed to the customer service area. Using my Drivers License for ID, the clerk was courteous and helpful. In short order, I had my fishing license and was on my way.

After several years of being a customer, Ive about had it. 3 straight times, 1 register open, 4+ people in line. Employees everywhere but at a 2nd register. Used to be able to check out at the desk, but rudely directed away. Ill buy from other sources online.

The process of purchasing a higher priced item from the counter is a pain. It seemed like no one would help me even when I made it clear I was ready. Others were helped before me even though they came after. I bought binoculars, and by the time someone was available to bring the item up to the front counter after they pulled the item from behind the counter(couldnt pay at that counter for some reason), the total waiting exceeded at least 30 minutes. Someone was able to purchase an item at the back counter, and had two people helping him.

I usually only find empty shelves and empty peg board in the sections of the store I am interested in. Plenty of clothes though....too bad, I want it to be a sporting goods store.

Love these stores. Be careful they are addictive! Lots of cool gear to choose from. Best selection of sporting goods around. The staff is very helpful. Prices are awesome and they have great sales promotions. Always very well organized and clean. I have only returned a few items and the return counter staff has always been very helpful. Great overall experience!

Went out of my way to put a review .yesterday we were at academy in the evening time around 5 and as we were ready to be checked out we went up to a register that had there light on and there was nobody there we than saw i believe her name was “Sam”was wearing glasses appeared and she saw that we were at her register waiting and when she saw us she pretended to be doing something else purposely and completely ignored us when she saw clearly saw us at her register, we decided to go to the next register and the lady there treated us amazing, when we were at the next register then we saw “Sam” immediately get back at her register and just stared at us we didn’t say anything but we hope this gets addressed To her so it won’t be continuing to other customers and as an ex Academy employee myself I never treated customers this way.

Good place to shop. Bought a Yeti Hopper cooler bag and the dude that checked me out weirdly asked a hundred questions about the bag like I didnt know what I was buying? Im pretty sure I know what it is if Im spending $400 on it. Odd, but overall a good place to shop.

Im sure on a different day I wouldve had a better experience, but today I went in for shoes. Looking for my size exactly. I spent about 15 minutes looking which isnt much I know, but Im pulling out every ASICS shoe box from two sections and the section above where only associates are supposed to grab from. Why? There were three kids on standing around talking not doing anything. I wasnt the only customer around, there was another girl in the aisle next to me, never heard them go ask her if she needed help. Then I got some attitude from a kid up front cause I asked him if he needed me to go to another cashier cause hes standing there reading a receipt for 30 seconds while Im standing there waiting just staring at him. I dont like coming online to complain and I wish didnt feel the need to.

Great place to buy gym shorts . Nothing fancy, just good cotton. Sure, they all kinds of sports apparel, but they have great quality cotton gym shorts. Being retired I wear them a lot and I rely on Academy to have the best price
