I really cant say enough about Johnny and the team at Elmers Garage. My daughter is a student in Rochester and its so comforting knowing that I have a trustworthy mechanic when she is so far away from home. Communication is right on, I always understand the work and charges. Probably would drive my car from Mass to have him work on it.

Fantastic place to take my cars! They are friendly and honest! I wont go anywhere else, I trust them to not only tell me what is going on, but also how to prevent issues in the future, and what needs done right away vs can wait so I can plan for it. There are no surprises with them!! They are incredibly accommodating and quick with the work. Very very glad I found them. I dont wish for work to need to be done, but at least I know where to go when I need it!

Great service. Was able to drop my car off the night before for an oil change and it was ready pretty early the next day. We have been taking our cars to Elmers for several years and have always had a positive experience. They work very hard to identify the problem and have successfully kept our 2007 Highlander on the road. We greatly value their advice and expertise and especially admire their integrity and honesty.

I am a college student and this is the only place I ever bring my vehicle to when Im in Rochester. Theyre honest when it comes to repairs and tell you when the work your car needs is not worth doing. Like when I brought my 98 Toyota in because my exhaust was all messed up, they understood my car was old and didnt try to sell me on the high cost repair. They gave me two options and recommended the fix that was temporary, but made the most sense for such an older car. These are great, honest workers. Highly recommend them!

I like this place, they do good work. Elmers Brighton Garage is the best. Ive had 2 dealerships work on a previous car and Elmers was by far the most straightforward, least costly and most convenient for scheduling. Dropping off a car the night before an appointment has been convenient. And Elmers is literally the closest garage to our house. Which makes it even better. John and every staff member, front desk or the mechanics all pull together and get the job done, day in and day out. Cannot recommend it enough. Elmer’s makes auto repair/maintenance as customer friendly as possible. It basically comes down to three things; quality, cost and communication. At Elmer’s the quality of the work I’ve had done has been impeccable, the level you expect from a dealership or brand specific garage but much better value. They never hard sell or up sell services. They explain the situation and provide options.Having been to Elmer’s for a variety of reasons ranging from simple maintenance to more complex repairs, I feel fortunate to have found a garage that respects its customers time, money and is focused on building long term relationships.

This is the only place that I take my car for anything, from oil changes to major work. The do good work, they are honest, and the prices are very reasonable. They are also busy, like good places are, so call first for an appointment.

For over a decade weve relied on Elmers Brighton Garage for all our automotive repair and maintenance needs. What we appreciate most is their dedication to our cars maintenance and safety. This weeks experience was typical in how they operate. We were leaving town when suddenly our vans front end unexpectedly started to vibrate. We drove immediately over to Elmers and Johnny dropped everything to look. He noticed that we had somehow acquired quite a bit of tar on one tire. He then generously scrapped the tar off the tire and assured us that we were good to go. Thats customer service!

I have always received amazing service at Elmers! My husband and I have been taking our cars here for twenty years, and we often recommend Elmers to anyone looking for auto service. They are very honest about what your car really needs, and they never try to sell you on something you dont need. Considering the fact that they make their money by selling parts and providing labor, this is truly admirable. Their pricing is very fair, definitely much lower than at a dealership. They are very good about fitting you in when you need service. In fact, this week, I showed up in the morning without an appointment needing several things looked at plus an oil change and state inspection, and as long as I could leave the car with them, they were able to get everything done that day. Excellent service, as always!

These guys go out of their way to diagnose and fix the problem at the lowest price. They understand the life cycle of vehicle ownership and advise on options based on the car and your plans for holding on to it. I come from out of town to get serviced here.

The guys are helpful and friendly, and the prices they charge are really reasonable, whether for repairs or just oil changes. My car needed new brakes recently, and Elmers did it for half of what the dealers quoted me. Definitely the place to go.

I dont even know how to give these guys the credit they deserve. The owner is extremely knowledge and cares about his customers. When you call this shop, they take the time to listen to your concerns and tell you exactly what youre going to need done. Nothing more, nothing less. They are also very honest with their pricing. The last time I was in they charged me less than they quoted me because it took them less time then they thought. Thats honesty! If you need a shop you can rely on, Elmers is the place to go.

The best Garage in Rochester without a doubt. Helped me on numerous occasions with looking at cars before I purchased them, were extremely patient and helped me look for exactly what I wanted. Great service, great pricing and the speed of repairs was amazing, my roommate works at Elmers and recommended this place to me; I did not receive favoritism as the other customers that I saw all received the five star treatment that I did! I couldn’t recommend this place more! I’ve been coming here for about a year, and I wouldn’t want to go anywhere else! This place is so honest that I don’t know how they make a profit. John is a really kind n friendly person, n he explains how things work n why, and really has a solid respect for his customers- he never makes you feel talked down to for not knowing something about how cars work, and never tries to take advantage of anyone because they don’t have that knowledge. My partner and I travel a lot by car, and John even taught my partner how to check and change the oil! If you’re coming in on a budget, they work to be accommodating to that, and will tell you what repairs are most urgent, what you can do to delay repairs, and so on. If there’s a problem that’s hard to identify or fix, they won’t charge until the problem is fixed, even if it takes more than one try. Elmer’s is by far the best repair shop in the Rochester area- the walls in the office are filled with thank you notes from tons of other customers who feel the same. I couldn’t recommend this place more!

The Best Around.They took care of my car while I was traveling through the state. John and Jon are the best. They took care of my car and my worries all at the same time. I had to leave my car while continuing traveling and when I returned they even picked me up at the airport. They believe in treating others like you want to be treated!

I was in town for a few days when my change oil light lit up. I purchased the synthetic oil at a local auto parts store and then drove next door to Elmers Garage to see if they could perform the labor. Couldnt have asked for a more friendly, helpful or fair treatment. John, the owner, fairly discounted the cost given that I had already purchased the oil and heard him advise subsequent clients against unnecessary repairs or interventions to their cars even though he could have benefited from the income. Friendly, prompt, trustworthy. I had frequented other garages in Rochester when I lived there. This is the garage to go to.

Ive been to Elmers several times before and Ill go back again. However, when they diagnosed my failing water pump, I was told it was a 9-hour job (because the engine would need to be lifted) with an estimate over $1,000. I called around town and most places told me it was a 3-4 hour job, so I called Elmers back with that information and they still told me 9 hours. I declined the work and took my car elsewhere, where they confirmed the diagnosis, replaced the pump in 3 hours, and my total bill was just under $600. Elmers charged me for the half-hour diagnosis time, which was fine, and they later told me that they had misunderstood the procedure and that it was only a 4-hour job. No hard feelings here, but I was disappointed in the amount of effort I had to do to reschedule the work somewhere else on a tight schedule before a trip out of town.

Despite Mondays being very busy, John told me to bring it in and hed listen, but would not be able to fix due to the workload.....Got the car there. John had Jesse IMMEDIATELY troubleshoot the noise. Found a piece of road debrie stuck in my tire. They IMMEDIATELY fixed and minimal charge at that. I have said it before....with Elmers in the neighborhood, it is like having a brother for a mechanic! Couldnt be happier with todays visit. The front brake rotors installed 9 months ago were not performing to my satisfaction, so I suggested that we swap in OEM rotors. John agreed to do so, credited the full cost of the first rotors, and absorbed the cost of all labor required. He only asked me to pay the difference in cost between the original rotors and the new OEM rotors he installed today.Elmers also did a state inspection today and returned my car at the agreed-upon time. Perfect!

This is my favorite garage for many reasons, not the least of which is the superior service, honesty, integrity, affordable prices, attention to detail, and the kindness of all who work there. Ive used lot of other garages, had a favorite 12 years ago, but decided to give Elmers a try. Im so glad I did! Even when I moved out of the area (to Le Roy), Ive found myself using Elmers for the really important stuff like diagnostics & big replacements (i.e., air conditioning system). I trust them and thats important to me. Not only that, but they treat me like a #1 customer (and I think they treat everyone that way --- theyre just awesome in that respect!). Their work speaks for itself - but throw all the other awesome attributes on top and you have Rochesters best garage, in my opinion.

Top Notch!I traveled recently to Henrietta, NY to visit some friends. When I woke the next morning to head home my truck would not start. I have had this intermittent problem a few times before however my local mechanic could not figure out the issue. My truck usually starts after a day of drying out so I didnt think anymore of it and stayed another night. Monday morning came and my truck still wouldnt start so I decided its time to look for a service facility local to assist. I checked online and found Elmers. I read some of the reviews and decided to give them a call.I talk with the gentlmen that answered the phone and explained what was happening, he was very polite and assisted me further by recommending a tow company. My truck was towed a short while later from the hotel to Elmers.Chris took down all of my information and said someone would be looking at my truck shortly. I sat down in the waiting room for a little while and Scott one of the mechanics came out to see me. He advised me he was the one I spoke with in the morning via the phone and he knew what my issue was then, already ordered my part so it would be there when I arrived but just needed to look at my truck to confirm his diagnosis.I was blown away - OUTSTANDING service! Scott cleared up the intermittent mystery my local mechanic could not - THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! I am quite frustrated with the level of service I received at Elmers Garage. The repairs that I needed were simple, and would be considered by most to be routine maintenance.Despite the condition of the car outside of these repairs, I requested to have the front rotors and brake pads replaced in addition to a standard oil change.When the mechanic called me to discuss the issue, he spoke to me as if he was a teacher going over a bad report card with a delinquent student. The level of disrespect was uncalled for, especially considering the amount he expected me to pay for this standard work.He quoted $450 for pads, rotors and an oil change. Due to a lack of time, I motioned to go ahead with the work knowing I was over paying by at least $100.He also quoted me $283 for a tail light that I was able to purchase - NEW - online for $67.00.After picking up my car, I contacted several local shops to get an alternate quote the next day, and was quoted $340 by South Ave Auto. Perhaps Elmers uses better parts, I thought, although that cannot be the case as they were trying to convince me to replace the REAR brakes and rotors which they had already fixed less than two years ago (March 2014).South Ave Auto told me that they have a 2 year warranty on brakes and rotors so if I had gone to them in the first place - it would be on the house.Regardless of pricing, when I went to pick up the car, the mechanic had charged an additional for $30 for a cabin filter that I had NOT authorized. When I disputed this, explaining that I did not ask for this change to be made the clerk at the desk got defensive and responded with: Well why would he write that you wanted this done if you said no?Not sure, but my best guess is to charge me more.I used to have a friend that worked for Elmers and while he was employed there they always took fine care of me. Now that hes gone, its rip off time.I will never go back to this shop, and any and every time I have an opportunity to let someone know how terrible they are I will certainly do so.People like those at Elmers only make life more difficult for hard working people who put in work to make ends meet. Shame.

Im sure for repairs they are fine but I dont feel I can trust them personally because I got dinged on a ton of stuff when I went to get an inspection but I passed when I went to Valvoline.

Took my 80000m/12 year old Subaru Forester in for NYS inspection at Elmers and came away in shock - apparently to pass inspection needed a new serpentine belt and rear brakes total $900+! In addition was warned that my battery was in dire need of replacement and the front strut needed replacement - an additional $1000 but not needed to pass inspection.Took a step back and trekked out to the Van Bortel dealer for NYS inspection and was told the belt was fine, the brakes needed repair - cost $375! Battery, front strut, serpentine belt all fine. WHAT!?? Sure, Elmers is an easy walk to my house and the convenience is great but not $500 great. Not going back there again if I can help it.
