Really a cool place. Open and airy. So much to look at in different sections. Organized and neat. Helpful, pleasant staff. The kind of place you can find some random beat up salvage piece and a unique antique in excellent condition - all under the same roof! Inspiring ideas for creative minds...local artist pieces. Just a fun place to spend an afternoon. You might leave with something like...a garden gecko. Thank you for my new garden buddy :)
This place is amazing. Very diverse inventory from actual salvage and vintage items to custom pieces to art works. Spent 2 hours browsing and went back the next day. Staff was inviting and helpful. Another fun trip to shop and visit!!
My Wife and I had a wonderful day at the store. We bought some great items. The store was clean and set up very nice. But the highlight for us was meeting Mike Whiteside! He is so genuine and insisted on taking a selfie with us! The young lady that checked us out was very knowledgeable and friendly as well as all the staff! Please go if you can!
This place is unbelievable! Something for everyone to see and it goes on and on in this huge venue! Eric and Christa were amazingly helpful and friendly. A very pleasant experience, definitely returning and I highly recommend ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I really enjoyed walking around and checking out all of the various salvaged items. Great place to find replacement locks, hinges, door knows and keys for old homes. The live edge slab selection is very good as well. Very courteous and knowledgeable staff.
Very interesting stop with lots to look at and imagine what its used for...lol. old building supplies, finishes, etc. A walk down memory lane and new ideas for future projects. Ill watch the show when I get the cable stations!!
A seriously cool place!! Prices are very steep, but for someone willing to pay big bucks for true art, this place is perfect for you.
Such a neat spot. Really interesting to walk around even if you aren’t in the market for home-goods. There are TONS of cute gifts from local vendors. Bonus: food trucks on the weekend
Much more than a salvage store. Its huge (2 levels) with great vintage pieces and lots of new pieces built by either the owners or employees. But, if you ever saw their show on DIY network, youll know how expensive their stuff is. Ouch! Its the only reason I dont give them 5 stars...their merchandise is fairly exclusive to people with lots of income.
There is so much to look at in Black Dog, its a visual feast for the eyes. I love the industrial feel and the general layout. Their local artwork is beautiful and the furniture is custom and very creative. Some items are a bit pricey, but I love this store for all that it offers. Another bonus: Black Dog teams up with local businesses to offer events on the weekend like Dog Bowl and mini concerts. Artisans and food trucks park in the lot and create a mini marketplace, its delightful!
Hip and chill local coffee shop serving Counter Culture Coffee. My wife and I came here with friends on our first visit to Roanoke and loved it! Great menu with a really nice baked good selection. They also serve craft beer and have a good amount of indoor and outdoor seating. Highly recommend of you Love indecent local coffee shops with specialty coffee.
I love this store, and they are dog friendly! Its one of the few places I can go to find gargoyles. Thanks Black Dog!
Finally got to stop while traveling through the general area. It was a Sunday and we got to meet Mike at the store! What an unexpected surprise. Mike took time to talk with anyone that wanted to talk, took pictures with us and even gave me a private tour of the workshop! He is very genuine and treats you like he has known you forever. The retail shop is huge, so much to see. Bought a few things and will definitely stop by again when traveling by. Thanks Mike!
They are great with working on custom projects. Their craftsmanship is second to none. Great experience.
The staff here is for the most part very friendly and helpful. They have some unique items and it is a good place to get inspiration and find a hidden treasure or two. Why 3 stars? The pricing is excessive for a good portion of their stock, like above market rate for identical items you could find new in a hardware store. The rarer, craftsmanship items are priced fairly but the overall gouging is a huge turn off. I would still recommend a visit as it is a fun stop.
Unfortunately I havent had the privilege of visiting blackdog salvage, however ido watch it on TV all the time. I love to diy things myself and they give amazing ideas. If I ever got the opportunity I would love to ride along and help them however I could. Hopefully soon I can visit the store and lload up on merch and great ideas!!! Yall are my heros###
Put this on your bucket list, especially if you are a treasure hunter! We discovered the most amazing finds at very reasonable prices! We had our little black dog and the staff welcomed us in with great warmth. We had the pleasure of meeting Mike Whiteside; to say he is genuinely friendly is a vast understatement. In fact, the entire staff made us feel like family. We will most certainly make the trip back to Roanoke for another BDS visit!
No trip to Roanoke is complete without a visit to Black Dog Salvage! Theyve taken picking and architectural salvage to the next level. They also have many custom made items with something for any budget!
Amazing place to go into and look around. You can go there and get some great ideas also. So worth the stop to see if your in Roanoke VA.
Very fun quirky place to look around!
Always a unique place to shop. So many choice relics. They really know how to market salvage.
Friendly people, good selection of salvage and antiques decent prices. Like the place.
Absolutely phenomenal. Could have spent my life savings.
Just like what you see on their tv series
Fantastic place to visit and everyone on the staff is super helpful and funny. We just wanted to check it out because we heard about it from friends, but ended up hanging out and dropping some cash on some really cool stuff. Its a must stop place and well be coming back for sure. If you like antiques or have a creative brain, put this place on the bucket list.
Fantastic experience! Mike and the staff were exceptional. This is an absolute must on your next or first visit to Roanoke, VA. Thank you Black Dog Salvage!!!!
Fascinating collection of salvaged stuff that they turn into unique items for retail!!
Super cool. We will definitely be back!!
Brilliant. So many items to see, touch and buy. 👏
Very welcoming neat things to see and purchase. Tae was very nice and down to earth. Cool to see the upcycled/recycled items from the show. Good place to stop by I recommend it if in the area.
This was a wonderland of treasure hunting! For the artsy and those that want the completed vision. There are parts to be found and unique pieces. Many prices were a bot higher than expected but you could still find the occasional unicorn piece. All in all it was a fun if not a bit overwhelming experience. There were so many beautiful things!
Our visit was great. We even got to meet Mike.
Great place to find that one of a kind piece or get materials to make your own treasure.
I love antiqueing, checking out consignments, etc, this is the best place I have ever been. If I win the lottery I am getting a house built with stuff from Black Dog. Mike is sooooooo friendly, but so is everyone who works here!
My go to place for quality architectural pieces they dont make them like they used too
It is a wonderful placeWith a lot of amazing thingsAnd the employees are friendly and helpful
Great place. Looks just as it does on TV.
Dangerous shopping location for dreamy wish list!
Love the paint it was super easy to use but the paint gets mar quickly. So I put on the top coat and I hated that...dont like way it goes on and it dries too quick so if you go to touch up a spot that has a drip that drip turned into a milky white chuck of a mess. No way to touch up quickly without creating a mess and I dont like the finish of the top coat. Im a beginner at painting furniture and I feel really discouraged after that fiasco with the top coat. I would have preferred better videos with how to use the top coat and get better results. Wished I left it alone after painting.Update: I was using the wrong brush to put on the top coat so Ill change it to a 4star. However if an instructional video can be done to show a proper application of a top coat with your paint it would really help avoid bad application by beginners.
This famous store offered a fantastic experience! There was lots to look through, from antiques and art to salvaged vintage door hardware! Perfect for an antique lover and restorationist!
Always great fines. Today I was able to find these really cool old fashion watering buckets. They had about 12. Havent seen these since I was a kid. So much fun ! They will b used as planters for some of my indoor plants.
The sister at the counter was incredibly helpful and so polite. We loved the store, but I spent double my allotment.Merry Christmas to me!!!!Would also make the 6 hour drive again. You are missing out on a lot of rare finds.
We saw Mike and loved their ideas.
Pleasant surprise! didnt expect so much, both unfinished and new creations!
My partner and I stopped by this place during a road trip to Roanoke and we absolutely loved the space. We even found a Justice League collectible that was reasonably priced. We will definitely be back. My only complaint would be them not enforcing the mask policy for everyone, especially on a busy Saturday.
Such a beautiful place. Planning on many visits. Cant wait to take my sisters❤️
Loved it! So many interesting finds!
Loved visiting the Salvage Dawgs location. When are going to start vloggjng?
Great place 🙂
This was an amazing place to visit, seeing all the antiques
Always something new and interesting to see!
Having been a fan of the show since the beginning I had promised myself that I would get to their store as soon as I could. We were not disappointed. Such a variety of items. A great place to look if you are restoring a home or looking for crafting items.Actually ran into the owners during our visit.
Neat place. Really liked it.
Great stuff. Prices are a bit hefty but if you dont have a way to get the materials you need these are the guys.
Cool place, lots to see
Excellent employees. No pressure. Good selection. It was my first time there and I will go back. Cool store.
Black Dog Salvage looks a wee bit different since my last visit. Interior spaces reconfigured, a new design center added, and the outside display area shows many large fountains and decorative garden stakes. In addition, a new mini-amphitheater for casual events, the Dog Bowl, is tucked in behind the parking area. The area features some rough benches for sitting and luscious green grass on which to spread out. Please telephone ahead or check Black Dogs internet listings to make your travels to Main Street, Roanoke satisfactory. For example, you might want to schedule a visit when homemade doughnuts and drinks are for sale, there is a concert in the Dog Bowl,, or a Farmers Market or craft fair is organized on the Black Dog grounds. The interior reconfiguration makes the vendor booths seem more significant and airier. Do you have an idea for furniture using reclaimed materials? Then the Design Center, with its collection of unique wood slabs, idea books, and an on-hand consultant, is worth checking out. The fountains, constructed with recycled pieces of concrete and stone, are unique. In addition, there are large and small decorative gardens composed of vintage glassware and ceramic ware.Black Dog Salvage, located about a seven-minute drive from where I live in Roanoke, VA, tops my go-to list for everything from handmade stationery or realistic-looking artificial flowers for gifts to vintage vases and planters for myself. Its also a perfect place to walk for my exercise while wondering how Id use some of their unique furniture pieces in my own life.
If youre looking for historical artifacts to build into your home, this is the place to come. Everything you can imagine that has been built in the last 150 years is available in this store, from antique wooden doors, trim pieces, tile from the 50s to massive structures like the entire entry to old mansions and interesting historical structures or leaded Glass Windows from old churches. Metal work like grates, clawfoot bathtubs, sinks from all eras, antique bedding and so many more items then can be written, are available here. If nothing else its a great place to browse and look at historical structural artifacts of the United States. You can easily spend a couple of hours in this store!
Great place to shop and visit 😊
So fun! I love being here!
Such a fun place to visit.
Lots of interesting and unique pieces. If I just had a place to put it all.
They have unique and creative decor and home furnishings made from salvaged items.
Lots of older household items reclaimed. Old signs, outdoor metal art work.
We are Black Dog Salvage show groupies so we had to stop by as we drove through Roanoke. All of the staff that we dealt with were very cordial and helpful. Tons of items for the DIY folks as well as ready-made pieces for people that might be craft challenged
People are great, the place is a experience that should not be missed.very educational.
It was way more than we expected. Most items were not over priced at all. They had 2 floors and items outside. Very organized and prices were easy to find on every item. The employee were wonderful. Mike was there today walking around saying hi to everyone and just chit chatting. We will be going back very soon. We live in Richmond Virginia and the 2hr 53 min drive is worth it.
Awesome warehouse well stocked with everything you need. Fair prices. Fantastic people. Thank you for all your help. Highly recommend.
Drove from western NC to visit. Was not disappointed at all. Very unique items and a large selection. Loved this store.
