Cannot rave about this place enough!! I needed my axle assembly replaced (among a few other tasks) and they got the car back to me in the same day. This car has never driven this smoothly! If they cant do a job you asked them to do because its to pricey they recommend someone who can do it at a more reasonable cost for you. I’ve been here several times in the past year. Today I brought my car in for a routine oil change. They ran a diagnostic without telling me and told me they recommend I fix the other issues in the car. Again no check engine light on or any light for that matter so I just got the oil change. Ten minutes after driving out of the shop the check engine came on. Even though the check engine light has never came on. I called and the lady at the front said just bring it back and we’ll check it. I didn’t think much of it maybe a screw was loose and it was leaking slightly. They end up telling me I had to fix a valve that had broken right after I drove out the shop. Cost would be nearly $300. They literally said it was bad luck that it happened after leaving the shop. I obviously refused telling them I would take the care somewhere else. Then they tried to charge me $120 for a diagnostic fee. When asked to speak to the manager the lady at the front said the manager didn’t pick up and she would wait for a call back. I agreed to wait. After 5 minutes the mechanic just drove my car out and said you can drive it off. The whole situation was unprofessional to me. Really wish I was able to get in touch with a manager. I’ve been a here a few times before but after this last experience I wouldn’t recommend this auto shop to anyone in richmond.

Best auto repair shop Ive ever used. Ive had them inspect and do work on a few different vehicles over the years. The prices are always very reasonable and they do good work. The staff are helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend this shop.

Went in with stroller from out of town and they inflated our tires without question. So wonderfully generous. Would totally recommend to anyone needing a professional business.

Update! The owner acknowledged my frustrations that the programmer they contract was delayed and that I wasnt made aware that they have loaner vehicles available. They were kind and made accomodations to make up for the delay.My regular mechanic closes for the week of fourth of July, so when my brakes started acting up I pulled into the closest mechanic available. Not only did they not give me regular updates (I had to call and email to get any information) they repeatedly took longer than they told me they would take. Apparently they employee have a programmer that is never actually there? I took it in on a Tuesday, was told on Wednesday it would be ready Monday due to the programmer being out. By the following Wednesday I was told it would be done by lunch time tomorrow due to the programmer being out. On Thursday at 12:22pm, the programmer should be here in an hour, like I said it will be done by mid day. Unless you like to be strung along and have someone try to change their story to cover their butts, go elsewhere.

Got my oil change and state inspection here because I recently moved across town and it was the closest. Right from the beginning they were trying to get extra money out of me by telling me that my car’s maintenance light was on (it wasn’t, that was the oil change light. Hence the oil change). They told me that there was about 11 things I needed to fix on my car, none of which were real (I got a second opinion after leaving here and the other mechanic agreed with me). They failed my car’s inspection on a minor technicality (that had passed for three years prior), then quoted me $400 to get it fixed. When I took it somewhere else to fix it, they only charged me $80, and during the repair we noticed that Cutshaw bent part of the inside of my door and stripped a couple screws while “diagnosing” my vehicle. Cutshaw also replaced the back windshield wiper, but didn’t take the hard plastic off the wiper so it scratched my windshield when I tried to use it. When I pulled it back to take the plastic off I also found that they broke the piece that locks the wiper into place.Will not go back here. Avoid if you can.

Quick & easy, dropped my car off for inspection and rear brake/rotary repair-borrowed their courtesy vehicle for $10 and was able to continue my work day with ease! Bonus points—When my car was ready & I couldn’t come get it, they brought my car to me & swapped them! Great, professional service!

Easiest place get your car worked on in rva

This shop is terrible. Had them do timing belt job on my Honda Accord 3.0 and it shredded because it had come off track while I was out on the highway. Needless to say, the engine was ruined and needed to be replaced. Cutshaw put the blame on the parts I supplied despite the fact they probably would have gotten the same exact kit from Carquest. They claimed the parts were faulty and I needed to take it up with Gates. They then charged me another $565 for an hour of diagnoses and to throw on another belt to see if the engine was okay. It ran, but it had a severe misfire in cylinder 4. One of the service managers, Dave, told me if it had failed due to something on their end, they would eat the cost. The other service adviser, Domingo, said I was just out of luck and $1,000.00. I received a report back from Gates and they couldnt find anything wrong with the parts and pretty much said it was installer error. When I removed the ruined motor, the timing belt was trying to slide off track again! Dave had told me, they let one particular tech handle my car because he had the least amount of come-backs and typically does a good job. So does that mean the others are worse? I went ahead and replaced the motor myself because no way I was letting these guys touch my car again. I threw on another timing belt kit from Gates on the new motor and 2 months, 2,000 miles later and checking the belt periodically, its fine and has no indication of it wanting to come off again and runs great. These guys are pretty dishonest and do shoddy work and will try and say anything to cover themselves. I wouldnt trust this shop to replace a headlight bulb. Avoid entirely.

On the moring of 4/2/2021 the lady in the office was very rude and couldnt answer my questions about my car that they looked at, wasnt following covid protocols. ( Not wearing a mask) Went across the street for better services and prices.

I came in with my car generally going HOT, Smoking.. so I drove to my nearest, in which was Cutshaw & they got in me in quick, I waited about 2hours for my car to get worked on, no problem, no worries BUT!!!! 1week and 4days later, my car appeared to have the same symptoms, going HOT, SMOKING!! 2+2=4...........

Update, the owner reached out to us and made things right. I appreciate that she took the time, just wished it hadn’t happened the way it did. We will probably be going back, prior to the incident below we’d had no issues for years.My husband brought his work van in because it had broken down. He was told repairs (battery and a couple of other small things) would be around $500. Now he is being told that those repairs were just made to see what was wrong. No one would pay $500 just to see what is wrong with a van that has 200K plus miles. Now he is being told the vehicle will need $2000 more in repairs to run. The lady for lack of a better term, was yelling over the phone. This was horrible communication at best and highway robbery at worst, avoid at all costs!!!

Been using this shop for a year since moving to Richmond. Staff has always been exceptionally kind to me and my wife. Their services are fairly priced as well. Its often busy, but that is a symptom of how good they are.

I just got an oil change and they were close to my office so I walked. They offered to let me use there shop car which I declined simply because it’s a nice walk. They got it done quick, sent a text to let me know which was great. Quick, fast, and in a hurry they were. Will be doing more business there for sure.

The folks at Cutshaw were able to see me quickly to make an appointment and had amazing communication throughout the process so I knew what was going on with my vehicle. They also worked with me on the pricing to make sure my car was safe for inspection which instilled a lot of trust and a sense that they truly care for their customers. Went here to get a routine re-alignment at a fair price for my old Honda. They let me know they were busy the morning I dropped my car off, so it’d likely be done by the next day. Great communication and overall customer service is one of their strong suits. Car definitely handles better, and will come back for routine maintenance. My only complaint is that the shop seems to have lost a couple of my valve stem caps, which is a tad annoying.

**BEWARE OF NEW MANAGEMENT**Cutshaw has created a terrible situation for me to deal with. They messed up my vehicle beyond repair and REFUSE to take accountability for it. Now my vehicle won’t pass inspection unless I dump nearly $1,000 into it. This is 100% unfair as well as unaffordable for me. It’s sad because I loved that van. THEY ESSENTIALLY TOTALED MY VEHICLE THAT I USE FOR WORK. MY EXPERIENCE WITH THEIR NEW MANAGEMENT HAS BEEN ABSOLUTELY INFURIATING AND UNACCEPTABLE. I WILL FIND A WAY TO HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE.*EDIT:Cutshaw now states:“You asked us to commit to passing your vehicle state inspection over the phone.”That is completely false. I never asked for that. I simply asked what I should do now that my vehicle is ruined and won’t pass inspection. Expect a Better Business Bureau complaint to be filed.

They quoted me a good price for my repair and it’s exactly what I paid! The two staff members I talked to (Ashley, and a man at the front desk) were personable and friendly. I couldn’t be happier with the repair or the service.

Been using these guys for five years now, and they do a pretty good job overall. The only reason they get four stars instead of five...They have dropped the ball on getting my vehicle done at the promised time on more than one occasion, so scheduling and being prepared for contingencies could use some improvement.Other than that, they do good work at pretty reasonable prices.

I wouldn’t waste my time going to any other mechanic in Richmond or the surrounding area. Pricing is fair, everything is taken care of in a timely manner, and best of all, everyone I’ve interacted with is pleasant. I’ve had some nasty experiences with mechanics since I’ve moved here, but I feel secure and confident knowing I can rely on the team at Cutshaw.

Just moved to the area and found these guys super nice. Took my car for inspection thank God they found a hole in my muffle. Quick and reasonable to replace. They also offer a rental car service that is affordable for use. Definitely going to be my place to go to get my car fixed!

I have brought my Jeep there a couple times to get worked on and work and customer service has been great. Just had my Jeep worked on and runs great now. I came in today to ask about a price I was charged for new distributor and understand their is marked up but was charged $300 more then what is listed for exact part that was put on my Jeep. This is price guaging and was told that they can’t get that part for that cost. Cost for part was $236 and I was charged $533. Was told nothing can be done.

Great experience. I needed new tires. I was offered their loaner car while they took care of my car. I was able to leave my car while I was out of town for the week. Even though they had time, they called me two days later to tell me it was done.Friendly staff, prompt service, great prices.

Dropped my car off for oil change, tire rotation, and a state inspection. They warned me it probably wouldn’t get done till Monday but called me Saturday at noon about it being ready. First time there and only went cause somebody put a free state inspection tag in my window at the gym. Pleased with their work and professionalism.

Very customer service oriented!! I dropped my car off for an inspection. The manager explained he may not be able to get to my car the same day, but was able to squeeze me in, called me with an estimate, and had my vehicle ready before their close of business. I’ve already recommended them to 2 friends (even before I got my car back) because I was so impressed.

This was the least professional garage I’ve ever dealt with in the city. I scheduled an alignment four days in advance, and then when I called that morning they said they might not be able to get to it. I stressed that I needed to pick my car up that day. I got a phone call at 3 PM saying my car is on the alignment rack, but they recommended I don’t get it done because I needed suspension work. The shop closed at 4 PM, and I receive no communication from them that the car was going to be finished by 4 PM. When I called back, They seem confused that I was trying to get my car before they closed. Then when I checked my bill, they charge me for a tire rotation I didn’t ask for. Please don’t bother bringing your car here.

I came in with short notice to repair a flat tire on a Saturday afternoon. They were super friendly from the start. It only took them 15 minutes to fix and I waited in their swanky lounge while they fixed my tire. The owner was walking around and introducing herself which I really appreciated. All around great experience. I will definitely go back with any other car problems I might have .

Cutshaw is absolutely the best. My Jeep needed new transmission coolant lines and they quoted a price at 1.5 hours plus materials, the job was much more difficult than the book quoted, it took them almost 8 hours and they still honored their original price and did a great job. Wish I found these guys years ago! Thanks Cutshaw!

Needed to get my vehicle checked out so I gave them a call to see if they could look at it today. Nick answers. Were not going to be able to look at it today. No follow-up, no direction on when they could look at it. I ask, ok, when is the next day available day that you can look at it. Nick We consistently run a 1-2 day backlog. So I guess Im just supposed to leave my car there for a couple days and hope they look at it at some point. This isnt helpful. Give me an appointment day and time so I can use my vehicle to get to work and errands. It is easy to tell when customer service isnt a priority at certain businesses and theyre usually the ones that screw you over so Ill pass.

I took my car here for a state inspection and oil change. I dropped my car off the night before and left my keys in the drop box, and it was ready for pickup before noon! They’re fairly priced and don’t try to convince you that your car needs $500 worth of repairs when it actually doesn’t, unlike the dealership I had been taking my car to previously. One of the few repair shops open on Saturday. Only needed an inspection but they handled it quickly, handled the minor repair needed to pass inspection at a super reasonable price, and their customer lounge was very comfortable since I had to wait. I will definitely give them a try for future car repair/maintenance needs. *** Edited my review. Last year they said I had a tire that needed to be replaced and not fixed. Took it to one of the top tire places in the and they fixed it with no problem. Havent been back since, but I wouldnt rule them out if I had a minor issue and Saturday was my only free day.

Awesome first impression. Got an oil change in no time, at a bargain price, and (unlike the other shops I’ve been to who give a call hours later trying to goad you into getting unnecessary work) sent me out the door assuring me everything was running great.

I have taken my care here a few times and have always received good service and communication. The staff is professional and honest. There is a nice customer lounge if you need to wait there. They send email reminders when service is due and you can track your service history through an online portal!

I took my car to Cutshaw Auto for the first time last Saturday to have it inspected and get an oil change. Domingo was extremely friendly and professional, as well as very thorough when explaining the cost. As I waited there for my car to be serviced, the owner of the business, Roger, stopped by. He introduced himself and sat down to talk to me for about 15 minutes. What a great way to show that you care about your customers! Domingo informed me that I needed to have a ball joint replaced. He took me into the garage to show me the problem and explain what was wrong. There was an issue with the new ball joint that they brought in, which was not their fault.. At this point, it was already 30 minutes past the time they were supposed to close and they continued to try to solve the problem for me. Domingo felt that the best thing to do was to order the part direct from the dealer, at no extra cost to me. He offered to let me drive the courtesy car for the weekend and said my car would be finished sometime on Monday. By 8:00 Monday morning, my car was ready to be picked up. I felt that I paid an extremely fair price for all the work they did and that I was treated with kindness and appreciation. I will definitely be taking my car here from now on!

Took my car in with no appt. Previous service place had left the oil cap off and after a 4 HR trip, (same morning as my trip mind you...) I came into Richmond in trouble! And didnt know why! All the oil had come out during my trip. Domingo and Nick were great and upfront. Did not cost fortune. My car is running great now. Thank you. Great customer service. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Thats not the reason Im giving Cutshaw 1-star though... zero customer service... the guy up front couldnt manage to make eye contact with me or offer a complete sentence. If you dont care about customer service, Im sure this place is alright. If you appreciate folks who welcome you to their shop and respect your general presence, you ought to go somewhere else.

I was so pleased to find an automotive shop that I could walk to! I had a vibration, and Domingo immediately diagnosed a tear in one tire. If the tire had blown on the highway I would be dead not writing this report! New tires and a spotted oil leak inside of 3 hours. Very grateful.

I went there yesterday May26,2020..I left my car there the day before ...So when I get there they say they are waiting to move car roughly 15to20 feet to the garage to check it out.The 20 feet dash would be my opening fee,50 dollars.Yes 50 dollars to move car 20 feet.So I then say, Once u figure out what is wrong and what I will need,I. gonna order the parts,(MIND YOU WE ARE DEAD IN THE MIDDLE OF A PANDEMIC).THE OWNER then tells me we do t use other peoples parts..So Im thinkng to myself they must make their own parts,this guy is a helluva guy.So I go on to say my brother has a account with PEPBOYS and I can get the parts you will need for a discount price. He then stresses again we dont use other peoples parts. So I say Im gonna buy whatever you want me to get from PEPBOYS to save money during THESE HARD CO ID 19 TIMES. Owner stressed again- he does not use other peoples parts.Im not that bright of a guy,so I say does it matter who spends the money for the parts....You know whats next!!!I dont use other peoples parts. So I call my wife and confer with her- SHE IS MUCH SMARTER THEN ME. She explained that, that is how mechanics make their money,the OVER CHARGE YOU FOR PARTS,PARTS THAT THE GET AT A DISCOUNTED PRICE... So I was unable to use CUTTHROAT CUTSHAW as a mechanic...So my ad ice to anyone who thinks about going there,to bypass that situation,and go else where,Cutshaw is gonna try and OVERCHARGE YOU....I must add,he said all of this to me in a respectful tone,with a handsome smile.

I cant recommend Cutshaw Automotive enough! Domingo and the guys were honest, up-front, and responsive.I brought my 1958 T-bird in, and they treated it like their own. I was in and out quickly, and they were great about communicating with me.I will definitely be back whenever my car needs attention.

Ive only been here twice, but Ive had a great experience each time. My first visit was because another repair shop told me I needed some work which I was 99% positive I didnt need. Great place! Fast service, friendly employees, decent prices. I got an oil change plus two brand new wiper blades (the old ones were getting really streaky) for under $70 and in under 20 minutes. No high-pressure sales for other services. Highly recommended!

I am new to Richmond and I went to Cutshaw for my state inspection due to the other positive reviews posted and the key drop service. I agree with previous reviews. I found them to be friendly and helpful. I really like the key drop. They have very well designed envelope for putting in the information.A little detail that I appreciated is that I went in July and I put the sunshade in my windshield. When I picked up my car they had put my sunshade back in the windshield. Little things like that speak volumes.I will be coming back for other automative needs and will update when I have actual work done on the car.

They are reasonably priced and have a nice waiting area.

This is a great local garage that is overall pretty trustworthy and honest. They never seem to push things that you do not need, are overall pretty quick about getting service done, and everyone there seems to be friendly and helpful. They have a customer waiting lounge, but I have never used it as I usually leave my car and come back to get it later. They regularly give out coupons if you live in the area, so I rarely pay full price for state inspection. If I have a problem with my car that I am unable to repair myself, I will usually take it here.

I went to Cutshaw Automotive today for the very first time to get my car checked for strange noises that just appeared yesterday. The gentleman drove my car with me in it to hear the noises it had been making, and when we drove the car around it sounded perfectly fine. I felt guilty of course for taking his time, and he was lighthearted and didnt make me feel bad at all. Additionally, he did a quick inspection of my brakes since I was told by Jiffy Lube they needed to be replaced- he confirmed there was no issue and saved me money which another company would have gladly taken. Came here to get a car inspection done (knowing that it needed work). I was impressed by their straight-forward and honest approach. The dealer told me that my side side air bags needed to replaced at a cost of around $400. This place found that it was simply some faulty wiring and fixed it in under $100. If you dont care about some fancy auto place with complementary coffee and prefer a place that just does honest, good work.. this is the place to go.

I am very pleased with their service. They found a very serious problem with my granddaughters vehicle that was unknown to us. This problem could have had serious consequences had they not found it. I would recommend them to everyone I know.

I took my car here for several years before I moved and they always did a great job. I never felt like they were trying to rip me off, they were super nice and felt very sincere and truthful to me. When my car was so very messed up upon inspection that it wasnt worth the price of fixing, they told me so and didnt attempt to fix anything just to get more money out of me. Solid guys.

I learn that a windshield wipers motor is run by the battery, so it explained why my wipers were not working properly before my cars battery completely died. Service was done sooner than I expected and everyone was friendly
