Called for oil change and tire rotation. Was quoted a price. Arrived and the person behind the counter took my Info and handed me the service fee. It was more than double the quote. Then he told me he would never quote something like that. Told him to go ask his employees who did it. He came back and offered me about $20 off what he tried to charge me. Told him that wasnt anywhere close to what I was quoted. Told him I was new to town and looking for a place I could use forever. He wouldnt budge. I felt uncomfortable leaving my car there and left
Was almost 2 hours away from home my car overheated he charged me $400 to replace a $35 tube that only took an hour and still had me wait until the next day to pick it up. Told me car wasn’t drivable and I needed to pay $2000 to replace something else but I drove home instead and it was fine. He Kept telling me I wasn’t going to make it. Almost made me stay and pay more. He over charged me and wasted my time. My dealership charges half the price he charged me. They were shocked when I told them the price I paid for the tube. He took advantage of me not knowing what I was doing. Was very impatient with me and rude. Everything is good with my car after the tube was replaced. I don’t recommend this service. 😡👎🏽
I showed up at Chestnut Auto Repairs randomly today to see if they could help me change my plates to new CA plates (didnt have the tools to do it and one screw was rusted over completely), and they immediately helped me out and didnt charge me anything for it!Service was much appreciated, and if I need car help in the future, will definitely be thinking of them!
I am so pleased to find an auto shop that gives me a feeling of trust, helpful caring customer service and the security of quality repairs for a valued price. Nobody likes to deal with car repairs. I’ve had my share but it’s good to know Owners: Chris and Shawn have my back. Thanks guys!
I felt they were being honest on the work that needed to be done
I am so grateful to have found Chestnut Automotive and to have met Shawn and the Chestnut Auto crew. I needed to install a front license plate (my car is from out of state where they do not have front license plates) and Shawn was incredibly helpful and friendly in helping me understand what parts we needed and getting me set up, free of charge.I just moved from NYC to the South Bay area and was very nervous about having to find a new car mechanic...so I really couldnt be happier that I found a shop run by such trustworthy and kind people! Thank you Shawn and Chestnut Automotive team!
I was looking for a new mechanic shop around my place since my car was getting out of warranty for its services and repairs. This is a family owned business and they are amazing. They are great at building relations and make you comfortable right away so that you can trust what they suggest. They give you good price and always make sure they give you right advice and service for your car. I would recommend this place to all my friends.
Ive been here multiple times never got a chance to review it. For any mechanical needs dont hesitate to go 5 star service!
After driving around and having no luck getting someone to swap out two tires on my ride on lawn mower rims I saw Chestnut Auto out of the corner of my eye. I pulled over on El Camino and immediately called them. The guy who answered the phone was very nice and even though they don’t work on lawn mowers and were busy he was willing to do it. When I got there everyone was super nice and helpful. He stopped what he was doing, helped me out right away and even plugged a tire I didn’t know had a leak in. It was one of the quickest auto services I’ve ever experienced and he sent me off free of charge. These people are hands down the nicest people I have come across in awhile. No other place wanted to even give me the time of day. Thanks again!!!
Best auto-shop ever. I had an emergency broken skid plate on I-280 and I 60miles from home. Found this auto-shop on Google reviews and decided to pay them a visit. They were incredibly nice and emphatic. They fixed up the skid plate in 20mins on a Sunday. Not only did they save me on a new plate but also got me all set and ready to hit the road again in 20mins. 10/10 will be back again!
Found ourselves 100 miles from home with a flat tire on Easter Sunday. Everywhere else was closed, but these guys went above and beyond to make sure they got us back on the road. Friendly and honest.
If youre in a tough spot and need your car towed you should call this company. Beth was quick and responsive in getting me a quote and getting Chris out to tow my car. Chris was kind, professional, and a good conversationalist on the way to the dealership for repairs.I had to pay $375 to go from San Mateo to San Jose, and although this was a less than ideal way to spend Saturday, they made it much more enjoyable and easier to get through.
I had a nail in a new $500 tire on my Shelby Mustang, and was told by a couple of tire places that they couldnt fix it and I would need a new tire. Shawn at Chestnut Auto put a plug in in for virtually nothing, and did it in just a few minutes, and it seems good as new.
Best service evere. after alignment my wheel its looking left and car its driving right. I paid for a full inspection and they told me everything its okay. and I got pulled over later today beacouse my break lights doesnt work at all. how the f... this kind of shops still running there business.
I have been taking my car to Chestnut Automotive for over two years. Chris always provides excellent service at a fair price. Whenever I’ve had a question about something he takes the time to explain or even show me the issue so I can see it with my own two eyes. He’s never pushy with unnecessary repairs/maintenance. Overall I highly recommend he and his staff.
Fantastic and reliable service. Great value for money
Chris is always professional and thorough. He has always explained any problems with my car and helped guide me for better car maintenance. I appreciate his expertise, skill and courtesy!
Excellent service. I’ve had my car serviced here twice and each time they explained the service and charges. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend.
Solid auto shop with fair prices. My wife and I come here exclusively for routine maintenance. They have been very responsive to online/phone inquiries and we can count on them to service our cars in a pinch. No issues with quality of work - would recommend this shop to anyone looking for an alternative to dealership maintenance prices.
Great service! Staffs are friendly and helpful. They take care of your smog check professional and updated the info on their system to DMV
First time here.Love the service here. There honest, friendly, good hardworking and quick.I recomend this place. Its the place to get youre car done.Plus there open untill 7pm
We’ve been taking our car to Chestnut Auto for more than 2 years now. Chris is our trusted mechanic, always fair with the price and never pushes for additional unnecessary services. Excellent mechanic would definitely recommend.
Chris of Chestnut Automotive in Redwood City helped us when our Honda CRV’s battery died and we were stuck in our garage. After calling several automotive services, Chris answered and offered to come to our place and get us going. It turned out to be very complicated as not only couldn’t the battery be jump started but all the cables were corroded. He had to come back the next day when we could finally get it to his garage. The kind service delivered and the thoroughness of the service to our 2012 CRV to make sure everything was in order were much appreciated. Chris and his team have earned new loyal customers, and we recommend his garage to everyone.
We were visiting and staying in nearby motel. Our 2004 BMW X5 was leaking antifreeze. Chris the owner was very upfront and honest with us and gave his honest opinion. This is very rare these days. Turns out the car had a blown head gasket and advised us not to drive it back long distance and the repair would be more then value of car. f your looking for an honest and fair repair shop. I recommend Chestnut Automotive.
Wow. In the best possible way. The licence plates on my car have been stolen a few times. I decided to buy personalized plates that (hopefully) no one would want to steal. I went to the DMV today to pick them up, and I excitedly went to my car and grabbed my theft-resistant licence plate holders and a screwdriver to install them. Then things got bad. Did I mention that I had a 16 hour workday? Anyway.... I went to install my licence plates and found that the holes where the screws were supposed to grip onto were completely stripped. I could put the screw in and out it right back out like both spaces were smooth. Front and back of my car were like that.I decided to call nearby car dealerships because I figured theyd have repair shops open on a Saturday evening. Apparently if the dealership isnt your brand of car, they wont help you. Nice to know. So I Google Maps the closest place still open and Chestnut Auto came up. I called and spoke to Andrea. I explained the situation to her and she told me to come on over and theyd help me immediately. They took a look at my car, and made a suggestion that was better than I could have hoped for. I was expecting that theyd have to drill 4 more holes into my precious baby. What Chestnut Auto did was make them riveted, so my licence plates cant be stolen ever again (unless someone breaks the plate). They also gave me advice on some recalls, and a *time* estimate on a car issue that will need to be fixed at some point (its the heat, but this is Cali and Im from NY so I use heat to defog and thats about it) and they were honest about how long it would take, which is really important because my job takes me all over the bay area and I know in advance what transportation plans I need to make.My old mechanic shop closed, and I dont really have a replacement yet, so I will definitely be coming back in the future. Chestnut Auto was kind, efficient, and there for me in a time of need so I didnt get pulled over! Again, thank you guys so much, and Ill be seeing you soon!
I had prompt and excellent service and experience with Chestnut Automotive. I was dealing with a dangerous problem with my tires and alignment and Im completely satisfied with how this problem was addressed. In fact the owner of the establishment had an opportunity to charge more for his services and he chose to offer me high quality service at a very reasonable price. I would highly recommend visiting Chestnut Automotive for any service to a friend or family member.
These guys are wonderful! By far the best in garage in the location! Their prices are extremely reasonable and they care about their customers.
Excellent, quick and very friendly service. My car was in terrible shape and I just wanted it fixed up enough to travel to LA. He made it safe for travel in just a couple hours, told me everything I should look out for, gave me advice for maintenance, all for an extremely reasonable price.
The staff are friendly and the mechanic is reliable. Had a smog check done on a prehistoric vehicle that needed the dino-rollers along with a 21 point pre-sale inspection. Results were determined promptly in detail. I reccomend this place.
He took care of all of our needs from fixing our trunk to replacing our battery. He responded in less than 10 minutes from Redwood City to East Palo Alto, several cities away. We came back a week later because our trunk would not close and he fixed it in 5 minutes and never charged us a dime. Great Work ethic, lovely character, supportive and educated staff and over all a devoted team. I would highly suggest the Chestnut Auto Team.
Highly recommend. The shop is clean, the are honest about the repair and take great care of you.
Chris is amazing. He diagnosed the issue with the oil pressure light and sensor almost immediately (something the boneheads at another shop inexplicably could not do after two visits). He was able to come back the next day and make the fix. I intend to keep coming back to chris for any car problems I have.
This was the best customer service I have experienced, hands down. Wonderful down to earth people. Will recommend to everyone. Thank you so much for going above and beyond.
They were more than Helpful great people. came in on a Sunday and they stayed late to fix the problem to make sure I could make it to work on Monday. Highly recommend this auto shop. Thanks
We had a wonderful experience with Chestnut Automotive. The staff helped us very quickly and efficiently. Highly recommend this honest shop with great customer service.
When my coolant system failed after 6pm while driving through Redwood City, Chestnut Auto was one of the only open shops. They were able to resolve the issue and perform an oil change over the weekend and when I picked it up, even helped me install my bike rack. Very happy with the work and helpful service.
These guys are great. They can fix almost any vehicle. They have all of the latest equipment and the skills to use them. I highly recommend this place.
Brought my truck here to get steering fixed. It was in their shop for 4 days. Over those 4 days I was only given one estimate on the first day, and one other phone call the second day. Very poor communication from this shop. When i originally brought my truck there, I had it towed by them to their shop, about an 11 mile tow. I was told very clearly, multiple times that it only costs $50 I ask, to be clear only $50? and a response yes $50.So day 4 comes along and they tell me its done so i headed down there and was reading over the receipt. They tried to tack on a $250 tow.I was driving home yesterday and realized my steering is still just as bad as when i brought it to them.My truck is still broken and im $400 poorer. I highly suggest not doing buisness with Chestnut Auto
My story: My car had transmission problems. I brought it here and we thought it was a simple fix. Turns out I needed another transmission entirely and a couple other fixes. I was given a deal to forgo paying the work already done if I proceeded with the new/preowned transmission and other fixes. I did that and was also shown in detail by the owner each of the parts that were not working and why they were broke.A couple weeks later my new preowned transmission had issues, but it had come with a warranty. For the 1.5-2 weeks it was being fixed (which the under warranty repair was free) I was lent a 2002 Honda Civic burner for free (this time not the time before as it was available for me). The repair likely would have been quicker, but finding another transmission for my older car was difficult. Since then Ive had no issues with my car. Also, each time I went to/from the repair shop they brought me from my home (I live about 4 miles away).I am appreciative of the professionalism from the owner (Chris) who I interacted with the most as well as others, the owner showing me the issues with my car in detail, lending me a burner car the second go around, doing the warranty repair for free, and arranging for pickup/dropoff when I was going to the shop or back without my car. I am told other repair shops nearby wont do a couple of these things (which sounds accurate based on my other auto experiences). So I overall agree with the high ratings from this car shop and would go here again. The prices were also comparable as far as I am aware of auto repairs.Cons for the shop, but not preventing the 5 star rating would be the parking. Youre better off just pulling in McDonalds (remember to buy something) or one of Chesnuts garages than looking for any street parking. They do keep some of the cars being repaired on the street, but they park the cars in the shop overnight (to prevent theft). Also, often but not all the time I was calling them to check on the repair status, not the other way around. Maybe this is because I had a longer term repair.
Repairs costed way more than what was discussed over the phone. I authorized them to do an additional repair since they quoted me a good price over the phone; when I saw the bill, I was shocked. Edit: Problems with power steering persist... these guys misdiagnosed the issue.
Shawn was super nice and funny, great place to go get ur car repaired.
Competent experienced technicians + reasonable prices + convenient hours
Fast, efficient, and fair prices. Great folks over here, I highly recommend Chestnut Auto
Ive been looking for a good mechanic for a while and Ive finally found a great shop with Chestnut Automotive.I took my 2013 Chevy Camaro in for a routine service and they spotted a leak with my master cylinder (breaks) and fixed it in addition to the service and oil change. Also, the cheapest service that Ive had to date.
I brought my BMW here and they took care of my brake problem that I was having for years. And now I can drive safely with no worries. Plus they are very polite and can fix pretty much any thing you can imagine.
Ive got a 2002 Honda Civic. The car has a plastic front bumper and the left side single screw that holds it on tore out the screw hole leaving me with a bumper threatening to fall off. Hondas solution: replace the whole bumper assembly at a big bucks price. After talking to Chris (the owner) he offered the solution of a single self taping screw to attach it firmly to the car body. OK, so Ive got a screw head inconspicuously showing- its on a 10 year old Civic. Chriss outrageous price for this excellent fix?: not only did he provide the screw for free, he put it in immediately for free!!! Chris said he wasnt about to charge me anything for putting in one screw. Now that is real customer service! Chris always takes good care of me and my car which is why I keep coming back.Bennett Kuhn
Brought my car to fix steering issues, I was charged over 200 dollars and they didnt fix anything! I wont be returning and i reccomend none of you take yours cars here.
Fast and honest.
Great help late in a Sunday. Excellent service and quick turnaround! Thanks!!
Great and timely service! Owner and staff great people.
Sean was great! Came fast and gave good advice
This place is awsome great service and great people had to get rid of old breaks and rotor .great job thank you
Bad Service. The owner asked me for 3000 dollars in cash on bills of 100, so I could start working on my car. when the cost was lower. I do not recommend it.
I waited a long time to post this because I was too upset about what happened and wanted to share only the facts. I went in for an oil change using a Living Social deal I had purchased that same day. I called ahead to make sure they had time. When I got there though the owner was very confrontational with me about using the Living Social deal and kept insisting I pay in cash and hed give a discount. I refused as I had told him on the phone which deal I had. He was very irritated about it still and told me that the company Groupon (who owns Living Social) hasnt paid him in over a year. I explained to him that while Im empathetic as a former small business owner, but that as a consumer his behavior was unacceptable (my car was already being worked on at this point so it wasnt like he could take it out on my car). Finally he agreed to accept the Living Social deal and insisted I come back again and hed give me a discount. I wasnt so sure Id want to come back at that point, but when I told him that I was out of work and didnt know when Id be able to come back he started to push some insurance scam on me his brother is in and even forced me to take his brothers business card (I declined repeatedly). My car was done about 20 minutes later and I drove home. Luckily I only lived 2 miles away at the time because I just parked and didnt go anywhere else until late that evening. I had a special event to attend that night and spent a great deal of time getting ready (as one does) and had to pick up a friend in Oakland on the way. Well, friends, when I started my car and began to drive away something felt off. I wasnt sure what at first but my gut told me to go back home so I did. When I pulled up to my usual parking spot there was a huge puddle of oil with the oil filter sitting right in the middle of it all (see pic) and a streak of oil all the way down my block from when I drove away. I was so upset! I was dressed up with an updo and pearls, I wasnt about to get underneath my car to deal with this. I called the shop, it was 8pm I think at this point. It went to the owners cell phone! I told him what happened and he seemed to care and want to make it right. He said hed be to my place in 30 minutes, he was only in Atherton (2 miles away) and will take care of everything. 90 minutes and many calls/texts later he finally shows up in some fancy beemer with the receptionist from his shop. He put like 2 quarts of oil in, screwed the oil filter back on and insisted hell give me a free oil change in a month or so when I need another one. They did try to clean up most of the oil puddle, but theres only so much that can be done, especially at such a late hour on a Friday night. I made it to my event, but very late. He text and left me a couple of voicemails after, but I never responded. Honestly, he wasnt even the one working on my car at his shop so its hard to be mad at him about it. I would never go back there again though. Check out Reynoso Auto in Redwood City on Middlefield Rd., those guys take good care of you and are 100% honest and reasonable!
Cris is a great guy a stellar performer and super star mechanic! Not only is he reasonable, hes honest and does quality work at an affordable rate. I referred my friend Kristin to him and he drove to Treasure Island from RWC to get the car then dropped it off afterward. Who does that? Hes know how to go above and beyond the call of duty. He knows how to create the competitive edge and sustain with a good name and reputation. Thank you for working on my cars and most recently my Mercedes Benz CL55 AMG. Thanks again, Cris! You rock! =))
Awesome shop, excellent service including smog checks at a very fair price
They are such bs! Told me $150.00 to install front brake pads and rotors then told me it was $560.00... Not to mention I spent all day waiting.
Awesome place to get your car repaired.
Got me in on short notice for an oil change and IDd a faulty sensor. Good service and nice people
Excellent work, job done quickly and on a Sunday afternoon!
Save your money and dont use them. My car had engine problems and I drove it to them, the guy Martin told me that it wasnt worth repairing. So he offered to sell it by having someone look at it. He promised there is no charges for that.3 days later their owner Chris low balls me an offer and when I wanted to take it out of their shop, he said the storage charges were $240.No where does it say on their contract that storage charges will be charged and it totally unprofessional.Very bad experience.
Helped me, beyond the scope of my coupon price. Im from San Francisco, and was just visiting the area. Found a coupon on the web - they didnt seem so sure about it - but they honored it. Class. We both talked about the potential causes of my overheating for a while, and eventually I addressed the issue and Chestnut was 100% right about it.
Great service and very helpful.
Perfect customer service, Chris was a total help on explaining everything on my 2006 Mini Cooper, definitely will be back for more services. Thanks Chestnut Automotive.
I had a coolant leak in my 2006 BMW due to a loose hose. I took it to them and Chris(the co-owner) estimated that it would cost around $100 to fix it up.When I was ready to pick it up, he charged me over $200 and added unauthorized charges to the final bill.Very expensive and be ready to expect big bills
Ive been here twice now and Ill be back for any future work. They have great customer service and I recommended to everybody.
Overcharged me to replace my struts. Poor customer service
Expensive!
Nice shop. Will return.
Great Staff and service.
Excellent service.
Very good serivce
Great friendly people
No parking. Made appointment, didnt tell me there was no parking in or around garage. very inconvenient area (bad streets, one way roads). Wasted my afternoon.
I was looking for a shop that would not try to upsell me or take advantage of me for being a woman who doesnt know much about cars, and these guys delivered. My service took longer than expected, but they were totally transparent about why (an older car they no longer make parts for, so we had to wait for delivery from across the country; parts that were so rusted together they could not be replaced individually). They provided me with a loaner car for no charge and kept me in the loop for the whole process. They showed me what was wrong with my car and explained everything in laymans terms. I felt respected and appreciated the entire time. Totally recommended.
I wouldnt recommend this place to anyone at all.. 👎👎😤😠
