I believe that this place can work on their customer service skills, specifically one of the lady who had no interaction with me but rang me up based on what I told her co-worker. One of the drinks I ordered was a summer special drink, Hibiscus Fizz, and it was very sweet. I love sparkling/seltzer water but not too sweet. When I told the lady it was too sweet she told me I should of ordered it with less sweetener. I ended up getting the Maghribi tea which was pretty good. The shop is a bit expensive. Overall, I may come back just for their teas.
Wish I could give them 2 stars but I think one is more than what they deserve. Starting with costume service, the guy was fine and very friendly and even apologized for the drink we ordered. However, the female employee with green hair and tattoos was quite unwelcoming and even showed some attitude when we asked the drink was not what we ordered. Their hot drinks are amazing btw. Other thing I didnt like it when I was about to order the baristas were busy among each other making jokes and whispering while I was waiting there and felt ignored. Overall, if you want the hot beverages, sure but not for any cold drinks. The pastries are overpriced too, $3.75 for a small nut bread muffin.
Delicious and nice atmosphere. Love that they have a childrens hot chocolate on the menu, served at a temperature that wont burn their tongues.
High quality coffee in a sleek shop at a great location. Comfortable seating for laptop work, including a bar in case you want to alternate between sitting and standing. Coffee is very smooth, far exceeds anything youll get from Starbucks or other chain cafes. Delicious pastry options as well. Highly recommend.
Not a fan. Ordered a caramel latte with extra shot of espresso. Tasted watered down. No thickness and lack of smooth texture. Could not taste the caramel at all. Nice staff and my order was ready when I arrived, but not the quality of espresso I like.
42 & Lawrence is one of the first places in Raleigh Ive been to that respects coffee. The staff is both knowledgeable and skilled. The young lady with the green hair and tattoos is in a league of her own. I will continue to frequent this establishment so long as she is the one to hand me the 42 series of the day.
The Daello Blend Black Iced Tea is to die for. Its refreshing with a little chai spice and sweetness. They have hand sanitizer at the door for their staff and customers safety which is a huge plus. I didnt try the coffee yet this time around but Im sure if its anything like the interior, atmosphere, or tea, its got to be top notch.
Prices are a bit higher than other coffee shops in the area, but the quality of the coffee is really high. I was very impressed with the texture of my cappuccino foam, a tough art to master. They offer all your standard pastries with 25% off day old options. They do not have allergen free and vegan pastries, but there are lots of packaged granola bars that are allergen free or vegan. They also use local dairy milk, with almond or oat milk available at an upcharge.Great seating inside for one or two people, but small tables mean this is the place to sit for 30 minutes with your coffee (and maybe a friend), not the place to set up for a few hours of work. Tables outside are a bit bigger.Overall, I definitely recommend this place and would come here again even though there are four other coffee shops on my way to work. I really like that they open at 7, earlier than most of the area shops. I havent been here in the evening before but I will definitely give it a shot.
Wonderful coffee shop. I always feel welcome to sit down and have one of their excellent drinks. The wifi is fast, the food and drinks are good quality for a good price, the music is perfect for writing and doing work. It looks out at Moores Square and the trees frame the view just so, its picturesque and selfie-able. Feels like home.
Cute shop with a fun atmosphere, nice staff and delicious coffee! They have a variety of special flavors including lavender, Rose, mango habanero, etc. allowing you to really get some creative and unique drinks. During this visit I tried their Nitro Cold Brew with blueberry syrup. It was fantastic! The cold brew was rich, creamy, and had a deep flavor. The sweetness of the blueberry syrup really complimented the bitter richness of the cold brew. I definitely will be back to try other flavors and recommend it to anyone who likes rich coffee and fun flavors.
Amazingly smooth and good tasting coffee.Great service by James!
Great coffee, amazing service.Clean, safe, and very enjoyable.
42 has been a mainstay for my coworkers and me since it opened across the street from our office. The staff have all been knowledgeable and courteous folks. The coffee is delicious, and theres a lot else to choose from in case you dont need any help staying awake after lunch. For me, 42 has been my winter warmth, beside my drafty windows; my summer warmth, under this A/C vent that never turns off; and my cure for the itis after Big Eds. Thanks, guys!
IM IN LOVE! This was my first time here, but will not be my last. I had a Black &Tan that was delicious, along with a lovely pull apart cinninamon bit of decadence that was not overly sweet and paired perfectly. I also loved how elegant and clean everything was. So many coffee shops look like they dont know how to use a broom. This one looks ready for inspection! The service was top notch. Ive found my new favorite downtown coffee shop.
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! I have came here since pre-covid and never had a bad time until now. I should of known when I first walked in as the cashier wasnt wearing a mask. I guess a mask mandate doesnt mean anything especially when serving the public. I was only number two in line and the cashier was having trouble getting someones single latte order right. She then proceeded to say be right with you to me and the person behind me as if she was desperate for us not to leave but Im already here and just want my coffee at this point. After I ordered she then rudely tells me to move aside for customer. I guess after you take my money Im no longer a customer and should just move? Through all of this I wasnt even given what I ordered. I ordered a nitro latte and was just given a plain black iced coffee. It was quickly fixed and was good as it always is but wasnt worth the process. Not coming back because I gave the benefit of the doubt and came back the next day, but the EXACT same thing happened. No mask and my order was wrong.
Amazing coffee, great staff, small shop inside but not usually too busy so I was able to get some work done
First time at a coffee lab. I tried the cold brew, it was well made. It was smooth and strong at the same time. The place has a contemporary style. All the appliances makes you feel like you are in a real science lab and they are coming up with the next are coffee or tea flavor. I thought that the pastries they serverd could be improved. The overall experience was good.
A great spot for specialty coffee in downtown. Baristas know what they are doing here
Incredible atmosphere, top quality coffee, amazing capp... My heart was happy #ILoveGreatCoffee 🥰
Great location and vibe at this coffee shop. The roaster is Larrys Beans which favors a darker roast than I personally like. But I have been pleased to always find a light roast available on the menu. While they offer pour overs, they are automatic and not done by hand. Theres limited seating, but if you can find a spot it gives you a nice view through floor to ceiling windows of East Martin and Blount street.
Nothing special in taste. They get their coffee locally from what I heard, but that doesnt necessarily mean it taste better. I got whats called the City sweet, and as sweet as it was, I would have preferred a stronger coffee taste. The chocolate croissant was a little over toasted as well, but still good. I should have gotten an Americano or drip coffee to actually taste the coffee instead of this sugary drink. My husband got the 42 Spice, which was better, but the spice gets old fast, so I recommend the small.Good when youre craving a cup of Joe, but for the price, its just OK.
Coffee and coffee flavored beverages that make you feel loved in a way Starbucks just cant. Theres nothing generic here. Friendly, kind service that will turn that frown upside down. You can sit outside but why when theres an oasis of calm inside. Their playlist adds to the cool vibe. I think Im addicted to the 42 Spice coffee and chocolate croissant.
Luxury, wonderful coffee with some very cool fusion drinks. Good social distancing practices, friendly baristas and staff- highly recommend!
Wow! Their espresso is on point. I came in at the end of the day, about 15min from closing, and the barista pulled on of the best shots I’ve had in awhile. That tells me one of two things, either she’s just that good and it takes little effort for them to pull a great shot, or they’ll give you their best no matter when you come in. Or both :) Very impressed.
Fantastic coffee shop with such a great atmosphere. I really appreciate how friendly the staff are and how quickly they fix drinks.
I cant have caffeine and the barista recommended a tea Ive never had before. It was delicious. Service was great and the shop looks fantastic. I look forward to visiting again.
Probably my top pick of coffee shops in the few days I was in town. Definitely coming here again
Fun and accommodating barista! Wish there were more food/pastry options though.
Im usually quite picky about the coffee shops that I frequent. Ive only come in twice, but already I really enjoy 42 & Lawrence. The staff is chill and friendly. The atmosphere is stylish without being overwhelming, so its a good place to enjoy yourself without the distraction of wifi/internet. I intend on stopping here often on my bike rides to have cold brew on draft, which is likely to become my go-to drink. Thanks yall at 42 & Lawrence.
Great coffee. I wish they had more food/pastry options though
Went for the first time today and will be going back frequently.Autumn was awesome and the coffee is excellent.
Love the drinks here, nitro cold brews are the best Ive had, and staff is always very helpful and friendly. Great place to meet up with friends or sit and work in a quiet environment.
Great place with super friendly staff. I walked in clearly confused on what I wanted to order, only knowing I wanted cold brew coffee. I was recommended to get the Nitro cold brew and I am glad I took the recommendation. Very smooth coffee and the apple cake is tasty as well.
Adorable coffee shop! They serve the iced drinks in unique tall glasses and the machiaottos are delicous!
Good service, good beverages, and prompt service. What more can you ask for?
The vibe is so clean and soothing. The staff is knowledgeable and kind. I had a lovely time here with a group of friends for a little hang out.
Great coffee. Relatively limited menu and selection, but what they do, they do well. Staff is sometimes friendly. Theyre not always on their a-game. But theyre never unfriendly. Very limited variety of seating options. Although, Ive never seen them busy, so you shouldnt have a problem finding a seat. Overall, its definitely worth stopping in if all youre looking for is good coffee :)
Quiet coffee bar with personal attention. Easy to get to, even at 5:30 pm. Counter with barstools, tables and chairs, sofa and chairs... nice, comfortable set up. Coffee fiend will be returning!
I’m always on the hunt for the best espresso when I’m in a new city. During my trip I tried Sir Walter, Crema, and 42 & Lawrence. 42 & Lawrence was by far the best latte I had in Raleigh. The baristas were super hip and friendly. They made me an amazing latte. You know it’s good when you savor every sip and don’t want to ever finish it. If you are in Raleigh, I highly recommend checking this place out!
Love this place. Rebecca, Megan, and Dylan are great! Rebecca’s latte art is so good! Super welcoming and happy people. Nice location, great coffee and good atmosphere.
This was my first experience and I loved every part of it! The customer service was outstanding and the drink he recommended was perfect. Thanks for a great start to my morning!
If youre looking for quick, quality coffee in downtown with no fluff or hassle, this is it. Simple, precise menu made with organic coffee and tea. Staff is very relaxed and understanding, even in a rush theyll get you your order as you ordered it (even if its not the most gorgeous latte, its still delicious) in a timely manner.
Best chai latte Ive ever had! Great experience!
Delicious coffee and great location.
My friend and I had planned on going to 42 & Lawerence for their sweet potato latte around 5:30 pm. After many car troubles, we realized wed be getting there right at closing, so we called ahead and asked if they could still make us lattes that we could quickly come in and grab. Taylor kept the shop open, and made our lattes fresh when we arrived. The service was wonderful, and Taylor was so friendly! Not to mention, the sweet potato latte was absolutely amazing - like fall in a cup, but not a sugar overload! Wonderful pick me up!
Nice spot! Good coffee, nice baristas, and unique offerings. Their draft oat milk latte is really good, too 👌
I exiting my review only because as of lately the consistency has been irregular. It may be temporary but I truly was enjoying their cappuccino at a regular interval. The setting and staff have always been great.
You cant go wrong with the coffee here. Latte was made with an artisnal touch. Conveniently located around many restaurants within walking distance so it makes for a great spot to stop in for a caffeine fix or relaxing morning window-side to people watch or get some work done
Worst cappuccino! We drove 45 minutes from chapel hill to get some pastries and coffee. We wanted to go to Heirloom coffee but unfortunately they were closed so we decided to stop here to get coffee. To be fair we came here few months ago and it was ok coffee. This time it was the worst two cups of cappuccino! The milk was extremely hot and absolutely no foam. The person making the coffee didn’t care at all how the coffee turns out. It’s too bad as I know they have good beans and a great machine so it’s entirely the person making the coffee.I do hope other working behind do a better job but we will not be coming again.
My wife and I think this is easily the best coffee in Raleigh. Hands down. Try it out. You wont be dissapointed. So nice to see them doing beer and wine now too!
The service here was not friendly in the least. In addition, they were completely out of cold brew when we arrived so that was quite disappointing. However, the espresso drinks that we did try were good and the interior of this cafe is super modern and aesthetically pleasing.
Code orange flavor combo is so good!!! So is the draft oat milk latte. Awesome staff.
Absolutely amazing coffees was options on draft. I love the coffee flight as have already taken guests from our of town there and they were very fond of this place. I already but their roasted coffee beans fairly regularly so having a location with interesting options made me happy.
Came here due to normal being closed. I came in and asked if they had breakfast burritos here as my normal cafe does. They proceeded to mock me about wanting a burrito at a coffe place and then told me to go up the road for hot food. I honestly skipped over that part just because of the good reviews here. I asked for 4 shots of espresso straight in a small cup and pointed to the paper cup size i wanted. They then put my shots in a cup that was so small i couldnt even put 2 sugars in it without it overflowing. And they were probably the worst shots ive ever tasted. Not a good first experience by any means. Literally just left my shots on the bar and left. None of the experience was pleasant. Be weary trying this place out!
Best drip-coffee downtown. A cup here wakes you up with a warm, refined finese and rich flavor notes that inspire deep, poetic thought as you sip through at Saturday morning speed overlooking the quiet sidewalks of City Market at sunrise. If youre a coffee purist, this understated spot will easily become your go-to.
Stopped by for the first time last Friday. Great service and very friendly! I love Starbucks but their dark roast was unbelievable! I like it much better than my favorite Starbucks roast. Ill be here whenever possible.
Really great coffee, I enjoyed the atmosphere and the staff was talented and knowledgeable. Walked over here from a conference. I like the location and the window seating is pretty cool as well.
Not as good as I thought it would be. Needed a spot where I could get some work done but had a half charged laptop.-No wall plugs in site.-My latte was lukewarm (don’t know if I need to ask for it to be warm)- Restrooms out of order. In a coffee shop of all places. And it’s a newer building.- a selection of 3 different pastries to eat was all they had. I guess you can tell that I wasn’t a fan of this spot.
Great little spot for yummy coffee and some reading. The decor is different and interesting. I love the modern and homey look. My coffee was delicious and I tried the latte on draft as well. Will definitely be back!
The outlet for Larrys Beans offers the usual assortment of espresso drinks, drip coffee, pour overs, & French presses with special nitro cold press coffees & fresh juices. The setting is stylish, the music typically indie, and the prices reasonable. $1 drip coffee on Monday and Tuesday with $2 pour overs on Wednesday makes it a good spot for hipsters on a budget. Recommended.
Best nitro cold brew coffee in the area. Def a must try if you like cold brewed coffee.
I always like going to 42 and Lawrence. Its upscale feel, but still very chill.
Clean, usually quiet, delicious coffee, nice atmosphere. I love hanging out there. The draft latte lives up to the hype.
Great Chai and tasty flat white!
Really great coffee! We were visiting from out of town and stumbled on this amazing place. I would highly recommend for someone looking for a unique coffee shop.
First visit there. Service was friendly, fast and informative. The mocha I got is very good. Love the style of the place and its kept clean!
The nitro coffee is awesome! Word of warning, it looks like you are walking around with a 12 oz of stout... So you know... Maybe drink it before going back to the office and meeting with your boss....
This is a very nice location. The decor compliments the vibes flawlessly. It is noticeable that they take pride in their craft. The chai latte was to die for.
Pretty place if you like an industrial atmosphere. I went on a Sunday morning and there was a long line and one person working. Couldnt wait so I cant speak on the coffee. Maybe people were there for the coffee or the convenience. I hope to try it soon.
An often overlooked local cafe with some of the areas best coffee and baristas. Between the modest presence and the sometimes unpredictable activity out front, I just forget to walk in this location. Then Ill have a meeting there and get re-aquatinted with this gem of a hangout. We are looking frwd to having a glass of wine there one evening soon!!
Nice place to hang out. I move away from bethel but I still miss this restaurant. Hope I have a chance to go back again.
The expresso was out of this world good! Best tasting latte I have had in a while. The barista wasn’t serving with enthusiasm. I think he wanted to be elsewhere really. I was glad he was there to make my latte though on a hot Sunday afternoon ... and for that, I gave them 5 stars. I will be back.
By far the best coffee shop Ive been to. Our barista Taylor was incredibly knowledgeable. Tried some new drinks like the in-house root beer and lemon-lime soda, they were amazing also! If youre in the area, stop by, and give it a try!
