Im sad to say that our three-course dinner here was disappointing. Each course was mediocre, and each one took a while to arrive (though I can appreciate that they were almost certainly short-staffed, which I feel empathy for). They also sat a couple next to our party of four at the same table, separated only by a low flower box, which was a bit awkward, especially with COVID.

These are tough times for staffing restaurants and Verdigris is settling into a new space. Maybe this was a one-off bad night (given other nice reviews), but we had a very disappointing dinner. We had made a reservation for two on the covered patio. We arrived on time at 6PM but were told that the only available outdoor seating was at a picnic table adjacent to the patio that we’d have to share with another party. As an alternative, we were offered and chose an indoor table in a small area next to the bar and open to the kitchen. We and other patrons were told simply to look up the menu on the restaurant’s website (no QR code?). This would have been a good time to inform us if there was anything no longer available on the menu (though also odd that a restaurant would sell out of one of their entrees by 6PM). Instead, it wasn’t until we were ready to place our order that we were told that one of our choices was no longer available. We ordered some wine. My partner’s white wine was not chilled. As we waited for our food, it was tough to talk over the loud dissonant rock music (think “Hit Liquor” by Shudder to Think)—maybe the music favored by the kitchen staff, but it did not fit the menu. We also noticed that several of the kitchen staff were wearing their masks below their noses. The starters we ordered were fine, but the main entrée, Beef Bourguignon, was mediocre—the beef was overcooked and dry and the sweet potatoes were undercooked. Though our wine glasses sat empty for a good while, we were never asked whether we might want a second drink. When our plates were cleared before dessert, the server also removed my water glass. When dessert was brought to the table, one of the two orders was wrong. The server said that for the mistake, we would not be charged for one of the desserts. There was not such adjustment to the bill when we received it.

My daughter and I traveled a long ways to go to a Cajun restaurant. Arrived 30 minutes before they were supposed to close but they had shut down the kitchen. Fortunately we went a couple doors down and found this absolute gem of a restaurant Verdigris. They were getting ready to close for the evening but kindly stayed open for us. It was an absolute exquisite dining pleasure. Everything was perfect from the salads to the lobster bisque and the main course, beef bourguignon. And to top off a perfect meal, the desserts were exceptional. Johnny, the owner worked in the kitchen. Wilmer was the server and was an absolute delight in every way. It was a truly wonderful evening due to the efforts and kindness of these two gentlemen. Highly recommend this restaurant in every way.

This is an adorable and somewhat intimate setting. Dim-lit and very homey. I loved being created with an amuse-bouche and fresh house-made brioche+butter. Courses are thoughtfully prepared and true to French form (with what I would say are American twists). I must say the white bean starter was sublime and our favorite thing in the menu. The seafood chowder-like starter had incredible flavor but needed more substance such as more bits of vegetables or protein as it was mostly broth (just my personal opinion). The duck two ways was perfectly cooked and complimented by the whole grains. My top sirloin had a sweet butter that paired nicely but the steak was very tough even cooked medium rare. Overall this was an incredible value for a three course tasting menu ($33 pp). Oh, how can I forget...The service was outstanding. P.s. we forgot to take pics of all the courses!

We each ordered a dozen oysters only to find out that we were only allowed to order 6 per person. We have been to many $1/oyster Happy Hours, and not to be allowed ay least a dozen oysters per person is unheard of. It doesnt say that on their website. We offered to pay full price for more oysters, and they still wouldnt give us more. The service was mediocre. We wont be coming back

Sad to see that customer service has decreased so much, I will not be going back. Expensive and waiter could not care less. We want to support local restaurants after hardships inflicted by the pandemic but not at any cost when taking customers for granted. The brunch is great but the lunch and dinner is incredibly limited in terms of vegetarian options. Its really just salads and the fries and chips which really deters me, as a vegetarian, from going there even though its a block from my house. With such a big vegetarian population in Portland I think they could benefit from adding some veg options. They also seem to only respond to good reviews which is really odd to me because they are a new restaurant and they should be listening to their community and looking to improve.

Went on Valentines day for an expanded menu with more courses. Interesting foods, especially proteins. Duck, rabbit, etc. Portion sizes were appropriate for a multi-course menu. All food was rich. Lacking acid. But this is French food, so that makes sense. Times between courses at my table and some others was too long. Noisy room. But the food was pretty good. Bill for a cheaper bottle of wine and two dinners was $250.00 including tip. Probably wont return at that price point.

The Sunday menu was so limited we ended eating a French hamburger. When I asked for a tomato, I was told they were out of season. No lettuce and got a couple of onion chunks. Really? That is the lamest answer imaginable. You can grow tomatoes year round anywhere. Also, I had to ask for more tomato sauce for our combined French fries since we got one container which was a 1 square cube. I had to flag down the servers three time. This was in a restaurant with maybe three groups and a 200 square foot space.

I’ll say I did drop an “f bomb” in private conversation to my partner that was overheard by a waitress... who had ignored us standing at the door for 10 minutes, and we were subsequently asked to leave. We had reservations and no less than 3 waiters walked around us without acknowledging us Standing awkwardly at the front door while guests pushed past us to leave. Really wanted this place to be good, but it just isn’t. Food came quickly, but was undercooked and not at all consistent. I got eggs Benedict, and the ham was great, the biscuits were underdone and doughy, the eggs were watery and the hollandaise sauce was a no show. My girlfriend got the breakfast sandwich. Sausage was undercooked (scared to eat it), egg was runny, and cheese was a brick, not melted. Place wasn’t busy, so not sure what the problem was, can’t believe they served the food this way on purpose. Oh well. Will keep hoping something decent settles into this spot, until then, obviously plenty of other good places for breakfast in NE.

The server was a wonderful, kind attentive person, so these stars are for her. We ordered deep fried and breaded oysters for an appetizer. They had been fried so long, the oysters had turned to a hot liquid surrounded by hard crunch which was very unpleasant. They were served on potato salad which was really just cold quartered potatoes thinly covered in sauce. The amuse bouche was tasty. The pasta with mushrooms and truffle oil was delicious. The pork tenderloin wrapped in bacon was dry and so flavorless that when the server saw us not eating it, she was awesome and brought us a redo - still pretty flavorless and this time it was actually raw in the middle, but the bacon wrapped around it was crunchy at least. We wanted so much to like this place, but we’d been there for brunch and had a similar experience (fantastic service and overpriced, terrible food). There are so many other stellar restaurants in Portland, we won’t be coming back to Verdigris.

I cannot tell you how excited I was to finally eat at Verdigris! I love food made with love and this place came with high recommendations. We arrive and are seated right away, even though we’re super early for our reservation, woohoo! The wine choices were excellent and the food options sounded amazing we are off to a good start! I am so confused as to what happened next. The amuse bouche was gruyere and bacon on puff pastry, was ok but not particularly amusing. Next was the white bean cassoulet with a 60 minute egg, now we’re talking! This was quite tasty and had me getting more excited for the rest of my meal.Seafood pappardelle with scallops, shrimp and crab. Sounds amazing right! Well I am pretty sure all the seafood was from last week. The crab tasted like the bay scallop which tasted like the shrimp, the sauce had the exact same old sea flavor that just could not encourage me to eat it. So I had two bites and called it a worthy try.Next was a Creme Caramel with a shortbread cookie... zzzz, a bland custard with an Equally exciting shortbread cookie. The service did little to improve the situation, besides comping the wine. Thank you again For that.My companions meal of a tough gristly blue steak and “cobbler” lacking any cobble (berries), was no better.I’m sorry Verdigris but, I had such high hopes for you and I’d say the mark was more than just missed.
