The staff here are some of the best in town. While I’m not there every day, I live in the neighborhood, visit often, and brew their beans at home almost exclusively. Despite nearly two years of working frontline and coping with pandemic fatigue, they are warm, kind, real humans. They know my kids’ names. They offer up whatever level of connection they are able to under extremely stressful times. And i think it’s important to remember that as customers, we are not entitled to that. Great kitchen staff, too. I would be remiss not to mention how bomb their vegan breakfast burrito is.

Perhaps a cafe of the future but this one is void of character or personality. This is more the staff than the design which is hip. The staff regularly surprises me with how unwelcoming they are. As someone who lives in the neighborhood I wonder why I start my day off with such a low-energy greeting added with a request for a tip. Stereotypical Portland even when it’s sunny outside. My farewell review.

I’ve been coming to the shop on and off for a couple years as they’re close by in the neighborhood. I’ve been treated with kindness and great customer service every time I come in. Now during the time of Covid, they offer coffee pickup- you can order/pay through their site or walk up and place an order. They make it easy and safe (everyone in masks, gloves, etc). Last time I came in, I picked up some of their beans which they roast under the name, Juniors, that they recommended for me as a well-balanced blend for espresso. I have sampled beans from many Portland roasters including Heart, Barista, Coava, which are all great, but THIS BLEND WAS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. I have never pulled such consistent and beautiful shots with other beans (using a Mazzer mini grinder and La Spaziale espresso machine). I will definitely be coming coming back for more beans and I highly recommend their espresso blend. Since it’s been warm, I’ve been getting their cold brew and it’s also top-notch...smooth, creamy, perfect strength. Thanks for being a great neighborhood coffee shop and also posting / actually showing that Guilder values diversity. Love the subtle Princess Bride theme...see you guys soon.

I love Guilder! The staff is always friendly and my coffee and food has always been spot on. I like that they’ve got items on the menu that you won’t find at other coffee shops (I’m partial to the breakfast burrito and Philly Cakes). It’s clear they care a lot about their community, and the quality of their food and drinks.

I really liked the coffee at Guilder. I ordered a couple shots with cream and it was perfect. There is roasting going on at the shop at the time I visited. Looks like there are beans for sell. I also saw a small alcohol bar - I didnt look at the menu but they must have a small selection of cocktails they offer.

Guilder is amazing! I love their coffee, their ethos and their transparency on things like cost of production, their hiring and employee relations, and the trials and tribulations of being a small business, especially in a pandemic with nearly 0 help from the government. Their coffee is amazing, their food is delicious, their staff is friendly, the owners are sweet and warm and welcoming. They were actually a big reason I moved to Portland in the first place, after reading their Ask Me About The Cost of Production comic. The cafe and coffee lived up to the expectations I had. I wish I could afford to get an oat cap there every single day.

This place is wonderful: not only is their coffee just lovely (and wow! do they take that seriously! #askaboutcostofproduction), theyre light and clean, Mediterranean-style food is amazing. The atmosphere is bright and calm (though conversations are easy going and laughter can be loud). They also serve fun happy hour beverages AND are welcoming to all and accommodating of children as well as daytime laptop users. Seriously, on top of all of these things they do so very well, they love the Princess Bride and theres a life-size Fezzik that I just want to run up and hug and dishes named after movie references (pictured here, the Inconceivabowl). I mean, what more can a person ask for in their coffee shop??!!?

Guilder is truly the cream of the crop when it comes to hitting all the marks that are important to me. Outstanding staff who are genuine and kind. Every drink is perfectly executed. As a company, they are doing the work to be transparent and ethical about sourcing their green coffee, and then roasting it beautifully. The food menu is wonderful and accommodates a range of dietary preferences quite gracefully. And the space itself is as gorgeous as it is comfortable. Love this place but disappointed they are making you go inside to order now. I’ve been working hard to avoid going indoors anywhere so over the last few months Guilder has been perfect as you could line up and collect your drink outside. However, the last time I went I noticed they moved the ordering and waiting inside. At the time I went there were four parties waiting inside at once, including two families. With closed doors on both sides there was no ventilation for anyone. I realize it’s colder now with winter but it’s created a less safe situation for staff and patrons.I’m sad to say I will have to start avoiding it for now as it doesn’t feel safe.

The coffee shop this neighborhood has been needing. The coffee and food is amazing. The service is super friendly and low key. The owner, Mike, is constantly roasting fresh beans right there in the shop. He recently didn’t want to sell me a bag of decaf because it wasn’t as fresh as possible. Instead, he roasted some the following day and set me up with a bag then! For a coffee shop, the food is next level. There isn’t much in town that focuses on coffee so intently while offering such good food. There’s also a slew of amazing cocktails on the menu. Please support this small, local business!

Consistently, outrageously slow service. Its the only coffee within walking distance for me, and while it is good coffee, the baristas move at a glacial pace. The space also lacks any semblance of charm. Takes all the worst elements of The Portland Look and smashes it together. If there were any other coffee nearby, I wouldnt stop here again. The whole experience could be dramatically improved by speeding up the service though.

Really lovely, friendly place for me to focus on work away from home. I love the natural light and that they have so many food options beyond the usual pastry fare of cafés.Only two wishes: More power outlets (an issue in many coffeeshops, perhaps on purpose?), and an actually filling meal for $11.50. The bowl I ordered for that price had less than half as much food as I’d normally get for the same. I’d just consider it part of my “office” rent, but staying hungry isn’t ideal either. Nevertheless I’ll return for sure!
