These are tasty, but the texture just wasn’t doing it for me. I like my old-fashioned donuts to be crispy flaky sweet on the outside and just cakey, moist, and tearable on the inside. There were lots of flavors offered at Blue Star and the workers were super friendly and helpful. However, the texture is hard for me to get over. The line was also quite substantial, which is fine because they were pretty tasty and in a good location - just something to note.

Stopped by this Blue Star on a Saturday afternoon and some flavors are already sold out but fortunately I got what I wanted, the Mexican Hot Chocolate. Its pretty chocolaty with a hint of spicy, not too sweet and the cake texture is good.Im not a huge man of donuts but I gotta admit that Blue Stars presentations are always very appealing. Friendly and efficient service too.

Always stop by when I make a trip to Oregon. I love their old fashioned donuts! My favorites are the raspberry rosemary, lemon poppy and the original buttermilk old fashioned. They are a bit greasy though but still delicious. Not overly sweet either. Purchased 4 OF donuts and the total was a little over $16 so it is on the pricier side. Worth trying and prefer them over Voodoo.

The staff were very friendly. We got there around noon and they were almost sold out of everything. They, unfortunately, do not sell the creme brûlée at this location.☹️We still got ten different kinds to try. The Tropical fruit, Raspberry Belmont and Matcha were our favorites. The Apple fritter and Almond ganache, unfortunately, both tasted stale. The over $40 price we paid for ten donuts was an experience but I wouldn’t do it again. Also, be prepared to stand in line as there was a line out the door. Their shop was very small and only allowed for two customers at a time to order inside.I suggest going early if you’re wanting to try all their varieties. The hype about this place is worth a try if you enjoy donuts.

The two young staff members were super upbeat and friendly. Probably because they work in a donut paradise. The menu on the outside of the building shows, like, six donuts on it. Don’t be discouraged like I was. There are more flavors available than that.I got my fav—lemon/lime curd. It was $4. Maybe that’s a lot of money for one donut, but it was worth it. I appreciated the generous amount of filling as it is the best part. Blue Star even made the donut tall, if you will, to stuff more filling in there. And they only use the highest quality ingredients because this is Portland and food is a religion here.

Donuts are pricey, which in itself isnt an issue if they delivered on flavor and quality. I ordered three donuts; the blueberry bourbon basil, the raspberry rosemary, and the chocolate buttermilk bergamot. The secondary flavors were all non-existent. The blueberry did have some bourbon flavor, and was slightly floral, but not basil. The raspberry lacked any kind of rosemary, and the chocolate had no bergamot. On top of all of this, the donuts were soooooo greasy that the grease saturated through the paper they were in, through the bottom of the donut box, and onto my car seat, which really irritated me. Its a general indicator that they fried when the oil wasnt hot enough. That all being said, the donuts were good if you expect just a raspberry or chocolate donut or whatever, but if you actually expect to taste any of the other flavors they claim are in here youll be disappointed. And I really hope they figure out their oil situation, because its literally not acceptable to have oil stains on my car seat. wth

I love blue star donuts. Nobody else makes donuts like they do. The donuts are fresh, unique, and one of a kind. The flavors are so wonderfully selected and the brioche dough is perfect for these donuts you have to be quick though, or you may miss out as they tend to sell out fast. I do not live close to blue star donuts but gladly make the trip whenever I can because they are just so good.

I dont personally feel like the donuts were all that great Im only visiting Portland and so far the restaurant scene has been absolutely phenomenal both flavor and service wise. So when this place came heavily recommended I was happy to visit. They are very pretty donuts to look with a great presentation and the staff was friendly. The flavor overall was lacking though I found some creams to be too heavy and some to be too light the glaze was a healthy balance not fond of anything else though. The actual donut itself was just a standard donut maybe a bit on the heavier side whereas I prefer mine to be on the lighter side but thats personal preference.Overall would have a tough time to recommend as the flavors were unique but bland and the dough itself was a bit stodgy also maybe not an issue to all but the price was on the higher side with I think each donut was about $3.50 I just cant justify unless Im really getting a good donut.

So disappointed on this donuts. You could easily get something way better and tastier than blue star for a third of the price. They claim to have a French recipe and use frases as “Mexican chocolate” but at the end their texture feels stale and their toppings taste so sweet that passes as just plain sugar, three of the different glazed ones that we bought tasted pretty much all the same. The custard filling was the most disappointing of all since has a lemonish twist that leaves a unpleasant aftertaste and it has a watery consistency.

Few things in life are tastier than a fresh Blue Star Raspberry Rosemary Old Fashioned donut. Seriously you can’t beat the thick, crispy fried outside crust. And the glaze!!! Sweet, herbal, fruity, zingy- this donut hits all the bases. For a more subtle flavor, with the same amazing texture, try the Chocolate Buttermilk Bergamot Old Fashioned. While I LOVE the old fashioned varieties, Blue Star makes all of their donuts exceptionally, and I recommend sampling as many as you possibly can. Review №45

A bit conflicted about doing this, considering its my first ever review, but the experience that we had this particular BSD today was not as enjoyable as imagined. My housemates and I went to Portland to visit friends in the area and had been recommended to try out the donuts at this nearby establishment. It being The Covid Times, we tried pre-ordering some donuts online for pickup, but it wouldnt go to completion.*A group of us (5 folx) ended up going to the actual brick-n-mortar to order at the counter and found that only 2 customers can go indoors at a time. Again, totally understandable with the pandemic. To try to expedite the process, since there was already a line, we decided to gather everyones donut(s) request and get a box of a dozen. Should be easy, right?Admittedly, there was some confusion on our part when we came in. We initially ordered an Assorted Half Dozen (bRaiN NoT wOrk in mOrNing), later corrected it to an Assorted Dozen thinking we could pick out our own donuts. That was our bad, full stop. That said, though, it would have been helpful to have the difference between a dozen vs. an assorted dozen clarified *before* the order was boxed up, because the dude that did it clearly seemed ANNOYED AF at our misunderstanding and shoved the box on the counter, hinting that we should just take it and leave. No offer of modifying the order, no sorry, its just not our policy, nothing. I wouldnt have tipped if I knew that was the service wed be getting.Look, it was our first time here. As people who have also worked in food service, we get that it gets tiresome to deal with tourist antics. But you would think that it would be common enough to develop a little patience for it. There was a line but the demand wasnt hectic enough to be so worked up. The person at the register kept saying, The next time you come in, just order XYZ instead, but I honestly dont know if wed be back in general. So, for the staff that was working the morning shift at the Mississippi location on 15 Aug 2021:The gal at the register -- We appreciate your help and your commiseration as we were leaving. But, if we could offer some input, if you notice that a customer seems a bit confused about the menu, please take the time to clarify their order before sending it through. The guy boxing up the donuts -- Your obvious exasperation made us feel unwelcome, even though we mentioned that it was our first time there. Thats now the impression well have about this place if we decide to visit our friends again. I dont care if youre a staffer or a manager -- build a bit of empathy, dude.*We later learned at the shop that an order could only be done at least a day BEFORE coming in, which makes total sense, since they make extra donuts to have enough for walk-in customers -- but there was not a clear indication/disclaimer of that when we looked online. (Of course, when donuts are on the brain, seeing As soon as possible checked anywhere = NOMZ NAOW)

I have been a fan of Blue Star donuts for a few years now. I wrote a review of their Northwest Potland location back then. This is review is for their Northeast Portand location since the Northwest location is permanently closed. This is a must stop by treat for me every time I visit Portland. I love the unique and intriguing flavors and the quality is second to none. This time around we had the tried and true butrermilk old fashioned, the chocolate bergamot old fashioned and thr blueberry bourbon basil. I loved them all but the blueberry bourbon stood out for beautifully blended tastes and texture. Currently the shop only allows two people in at a time (the space is smaller than the old northwest space) and due to covid restrictions. There was a line on the Sunday morning we visited. The donuts are $3.75-4.50 on average. Various beverages are available too but I eat my donuts straight up so the flavors come out. Store hours are limited and donuts do tend to run out. Go early for the best selections.

Theyd sold out and closed early the first day we tried and were sold out of several flavors the next day. There was a donut reservation option on their website, which Ill use in the future. But when we finally got them, the donuts were quite good. We tried the Buttermilk Old Fashioned, Raspberry Rosemary Old Fashioned, and the seasonal / special Apple Bourbon Crumb. They were very good, but not perfect. They were *slightly* greasy and a bit too sweet. The over-sweetness was most detrimental to the raspberry rosemary because the pure sugary-ness overpowered what could have been some wonderfully subtle floral and fruity flavors. That actually made me prefer the plain old fashioned, since it was less conflicted. But in a perfect (slightly less sugary) world, I wish I could have preferred the raspberry rosemary. The apple bourbon was quite good and had appropriate apple and spice flavor, but it was a special so we may never see it again.Texture-wise, these were excellent (other than the slight greasiness). But they had a good crisp on them and a wonderfully-cakey inside.Im not a coffee drinker, but Im told by my cohort that their coffee was exceptional.Note to self: If we return, try the Mexican Hot Chocolate flavor to see if the bitterness of the chocolate plays better with the slightly-too-sweet glazes.
