Kudos for opening early everyday! I love to see them already open for a new day on my run to Tabor even in those dark early winter mornings. The store has a spacious interior space (though closed for now) and a nice parklet outside. Decent coffee and selection of pastries and baked goods.

There are several coffee shops within walking distance of my house, but I choose Albina Press most of the time. They brew a perfect cup, using my absolute favourite coffee. Coava’s beans are the best in Portland, IMHO. The cold brew at Albina Press is always tasty and fresh too, if that’s your jam. Very friendly baristas and a great outdoor seating area seal the deal. Solid five stars.

The coffee here has a smell that reminds me of a wood shop with burned wood. For some reason, I crave that smell and taste. Its strangely addictive. I will be driving down Hawthorne and feel the strong urge to get coffee at Albina Press and I just cant resist when that happens. The location is very nice at the end of Hawthorne. Thats my favorite block of Hawthorne for sure

As the cigarette smoke settled in the air of the packed café I closed my worn old copy of lonesome dove and took a drink out of my cup of cold coffee. I looked around at the tired faces of students, writers, artists, and the occasional reader like myself, their bodys littered at tables and on too old couches colored like dried blood. I glanced down at my own table suited with a rickety leg and battle scars from children with paper clips, and pain started to rush into my body like a cold breeze rushes through the leaves of a tree. maybe it was the way this place reminded me of the dive bars my mom would take me to when I was a kid, could also be the decades as a private detective making me weary of these bodys all packed in a small place like sardines in a can. who knows. I start out of my chair and its back hits the chair of the person sitting at the table behind me. I gather my book and I leave my tip. I walk out of that thick aired café, my mind on other things. I weave my way through the bodys and push open the wooden door with a ring out of the bell. its raining outside, and I make a right hand turn. I walk to the end of the block where the sidewalk meets an impressively large puddle before I turn back and look at the sign hanging off the wall of the café. Albina Press

One of the best coffee shops in the city. A cool, comfortable space (usually) playing great music and displaying an array of pieces from talented local artists on their walls. The staff is made up of a group of kind and interesting people, all whom make one hell of a latte. A great environment to sip and read or bang out some laptop work. They also serve bagels and other delicious baked goods.

One of the hundred amazing coffee spots in Portland. But they all have something little special about one another. Coffee is great. Customer service is great. I was in here having a meeting with 5 people and just a few minutes into the meeting someone who didn’t work here came over and requested we move because they were throwing an engagement party. They went to every single person on this side of the cafe and requested they move. The cafe was already full there was no where to move, so we didn’t move. Shortly thereafter a mere 50 people showed up, causing every person who stayed on this side of the cafe who were just trying to finish their work or meetings were forced into unbelievable chaos, a suffocating environment and were forced to leave basically. We’re talking 80+ people in a capacity for 40 people tops. While I understand the people who asked everyone to move did not work here it is UNBELIEVABLE that the cafe allowed them to do this. We were all paying customers including a man who clearly had a developmental disability who had a complete melt down because people kept touching him.

Uniquely light, spare, open space with big windows and a couple nice couches.Aside from espresso drinks the only hot coffee served is press-made poured into regular old vacuum carafe. One at a time served the entire shop!Refills $2.That coffee, Coava on tap when was there, was interesting but mild, did not pack the immediate coffee shock of an espresso drink, but over about three cups did come through nicely.Nice place!

The only complaint I had was paying for an expensive expresso, and being given this tiny little thing in a tiny little cup, that was like... gone in about 2 sips. Perhaps thats considered trendy or something, but I found it a bit frustrating. Youll like their coffee, but consider asking them to serve it to you in a regular, grownup-sized cup.
