Great haircut and conversation. My favorite place to get my haircut in Portland. Had a job interview and Will suggested we change things up a little. Cant definitively say the haircut was the deciding factor, but I did get the job.

The best feeling is walking into a barber shop, knowing that the staff are knowledgeable. Well trained, and also laid back.My wife went to another establishment before coming here. The last place demolished my wifes hair. A gentleman here saved my wifes hair the best he could, and it came out amazing.I was always told (never did I listen), wemon go to salons. Men go to barbers. This place proves that wrong. All people are welcome here. Anyone and everyone.They even give adult beverages to those who can legally drink.Amazing atmosphere. Amazing staff. Great service. Love the ability to pay before my appointment. There are certainly cheaper barbershops a person could go to. However, Rooks is a great place to go if you want to treat yourself.

Saw Justin the owner. Easily the best haircut I have ever had and the standard to which all future haircuts have been compared. I also appreciated the conversation and hearing about Justins life before opening up his barber shops. I cant say enough good things about this place. BEST HAIRCUT EVER!

Good place to get a hair cut and even offers cold drinks. Only reason I didnt give it 5 stars is cause the workers seem extremely edgy and complain a lot. Main reason why I stopped having conversations during hair cuts.

My son has been going to see John for about 2 years now. While his hair is neither straight nor tightly curled, which can be challenging to get to cooperate, John takes the time and pays attention to detail so each and every hair is cut the way the style demands. My son leaves happy everytime he has an appointment at Rooks. The real testament to his work is when days later, after sports, sleeping, and showers he still walks out of the house with his hair styled the way he asked. All without any hair product. This place is sweet as. Dropped in for my first time yesterday and was impressed. A casual atmosphere and they do a good job cutting hair. Having a beer while you sit is also a good touch.

Cant overstate my rating for Blake. Tuned me me up, great guy, an overall fantastic experience. And its cheap, kids! Go get worked over by Mr. Blake. My wife of 10 years thinks Im hot again.

Best haircut Ive ever had. Period. If you want to get your hair cut somewhere that looks like a classic barbershop, there are plenty of places in town to fit the bill. If you want to get your hair cut by a classic barber--the kind that will quickly become your barber--go to Rooks. They dont offer cologne or cigarettes, just great haircuts. And Im just fine with that.

Decent price and good fade. Only reason I did not give 5 stars is because its hit and miss. Ive had two bad fades to 10 good ones though. Still would recommend. Free drinks is a plus and walk ins welcomed helps when you dont have a set schedule.

After posting a negative review here the owner of the shop and the barber reached out to me on Facebook. They apologized for the issues I encountered and provided a cut at no cost to make up for it. I appreciate their work to repair our relationship and look forward to continuing improvements at the shop like better records keeping.

I was visiting some friends in town and stopped in to get a haircut. The place is slightly old school barber shop, but more family-friendly and less pretentious than the Prohibition-style barbershops that have become all the rage lately. They offer you a beer or whiskey while waiting, which is pretty fun. My haircut was great and just what I asked for. Ill be back in Portland for a wedding later in the year and will be going back before then!

Dropped in for my first time today. Chris did a great job and was nice to chat with. The atmosphere was fun. A bunch of professionals cutting hair and chatting about non-sense. I will be back.

Great haircut by Will. My head is deformed and I need a specific cut. Will followed every request with care and left me looking like a stylish and normal-headed human being. The complimentary beer wasnt bad either.

Fantastic traditional barber shop!I recently had an appointment with Chachi to correct a bad hair cut Id received elsewhere. He asked about the style I was looking for, understood what I wanted, and gave me a flawless undercut fade and beard trim.I will definitely be returning to this shop.

These guys are awesome. They always give me a great cut and theyre really attentive. Free beer or beverage is the icing on the cake. Kinda spendy though, but its about average from most barbers these days.

I was visiting Portland for business and was in the area with a little time to kill.. Stopped in and Tim gave me a phenomenal haircut and was awesome. Somehow I managed to totally neglect a tip as I spaced it. If I lived here I would definitely be a regular.

This is an amazing place to get dapper in PDX. Jacob, and the rest of the staff are always helpful, kind, and do an amazing job. I love the classic feel, without all of the corporate bologna. I would not want to go anywhere else. And I recommend all come to Rooks; guys, and gals!

Jacob is the best. He will give you a solid cut and pointers to achive and maintain your style. I got cuts from a couple others people previously that were good too but he will help you out you just gotta ask. Will chat if you want or chill and just do his job if you had a long day and dont feel like talking. Well worth it, grab a beer and a cut.

Been looking for a new barber since moving to Portland; I have had many cuts by many barbers and my search is over!ROOKS on Division is the place and Kenzy is the barber. Fast, friendly, good prices and very talented.

I walked in when they didnt seem very busy and waited an hour. No one took my name down. No one told me how long the wait would be. While I sat there someone called and made an appointment then later showed up and were up next before me. It seems like a nice enough place to get a hair cut but I ended up walking out without ever getting one.

Yeah, if Drew is the guy from San Jose, do NOT get your hair cut with him. Since its clear Rooks hides anything that isnt a glowering 5 star review on their genbook app, Im reviewing on Google to warn people.Their genbook has 290 reviews, all 5 stars, but no reviews in the past few months? When Chelsea was around I had the best cuts ever, but since she left I chose no preference this time. The email said my barber was Justin. When I got there, it wasnt Justin. It was somebody who reeked of cigarette smoke from the break he took just before coming back in. Hes new, his name was Drew, and hes from San Jose. He was unwilling to make adjustments in the middle of the visit (i.e. going from a 2 to a 1 on the side [and by the way, his numbers were totally off. every time Ive asked for 2 in the past it was much closer to the scalp than what he claimed was a 2 -- his 1 was more like a 3]), not friendly, didnt do half what I asked. He belongs at Bishops with the other dont-give-a-crap hipster barbers. I went home and had to fix all the uneven strands he left on the front of my hair. Absolutely wont return after this.

Ive got my hair cut here for 3 years. This is a good barbershop but Im gonna break it down by barber because otherwise its not fair. Of course different barbers are good at different things.Lemme start off with who you DONT go to: Chachi. He is a total dick. Every time I come in hes angry and silent. Just scowls a lot and mumbles if he feels forced to talk to you. If you try to talk to him during your haircut (say, to mention what you want done to your hair) he acts annoyed and pissed off. Its like he hates his job and wants to take it out on the customer. The only bad haircuts Ive gotten at Rooks came from Chachi.Will Marshall is a cool dude who does really well with medium length haircuts. He is particularly good at sculpting it right before you walk out. People who visit Will walk out looking hollywood. Dunno how he does it. I almost never go to him because hes never around when I want to schedule.Fabian does fast quality haircuts. His fade to skin is really sharp. Personality wise, hell crack a few jokes but isnt really talkative. Hes the chill dude to go to if youre in a hurry. He seems to finish early and takes more walk-ins, I think.Sarah is the queen of the unusual haircut. Do you want something a little different? Go to her. She has artistic vision when it comes to hair. Shell work with you to get a haircut youll be happy with. Shes good with clippers if you like designs on the side of your head.Jimmy will take his time on your haircut. Dont be surprised if you have to wait 2 minutes while he finishes someone else. Ive noticed his haircuts tend to last longer than the other barbers. I think thats cause he cuts everything a little shorter. You wind up with a tighter haircut.
