Small, but gets the job done. Blick packs plenty of art supplies into this Walnut Street store. Helpful staff, tidy aisles, and plenty of art supplies you didn’t know you needed. The nice thing about most Blick stores I’ve been to -and this one is no exception- is that the staff are often artists so they give good recommendations and knowledgeable advice to artists. Blick is not a discount store so be prepared to open your wallet wide if you find yourself in the position of benefactor to a budding artist who wants to try every medium.

Its a small store, tend to not have everything Im looking for in stock which must be bought online instead. But the staff is extremely friendly and helpful and the store is kept clean and organized. Also something about being in a physical store makes it harder to not impulse buy random unnecessary things, at least for me, so wallets beware!

This place has everything any artist might need for just about any type of project. Its impressive.

I was just there a half hour or so ago. Chris the Asst. Manager helped me. And when I say help that is what I mean. No pressure, plenty of patients to answer all my questions like it was the first time he was ever asked. Im looking to getting into painting like Bob Ross and Chris took me all around the store to show me what I would need. Answered all my questions in a kind, courteous and professional manner. Dont loose this one Blick.

Nice layout. This is the smallest Blick Ive visited BUT the way things are organized maximizes the space and allows them to stock just about everything you need. The staff is awesome. Very helpful people that actually know the materials they sell and want you to have a positive shopping experience.

They got everything for all levels of artist, as well as basic arts and crafts. Isles are a little narrow, but suppose that is necessary to pack all that stuff in there. Only downside is the street they are on only allows parking on one side, and there are quite a few other popular stores on the street so it is busy.

If you’re missing what was the great Pat Catans and you can’t find any good painting supplies at Michaels, Blick bridges the gap and then some. They have everything. I specifically went for empty oil paint tubes to mix and fill with my own paint. A rare item to find. They also sell raw pigments, oils, any sort of oil paint supplies you could ask for.

Remarkably good selection for a small store. They may not have the exact brand youre looking for on-hand but theyll have something comparable. Parking is tight so drive around a bit and walk. Theres a small, public, metered lot a block away.

This place is paradise for artists! First floor is mostly stationery and the second floor is a sprawling level of art supplies. I kept double-checking shelves to make sure I didnt miss anything. Ill definitely be checking this place out again.

This is a beautiful store with very friendly employees with the large exception of who I assume is the manager. Hes perfectly pleasant when you talk to him but every time I go in he follows me around like Im going to shoplift the entire store. Im not sure what about me says serial shoplifter, perhaps because I used to go in a lot after work and would browse for a long time before buying. Either way, I dont appreciate it and I dont come in anymore; I go to the Artist & Craftsman store in Squirrel Hill now and they are so much better.I understand being vigilant for shoplifters and I know other people are monitored much more closely than I am for even dumber reasons, but you can at least be less obvious about it.

Our family LOVES Blick! We have an artist in the family and the customer service here is bar none. Everyone is extremely friendly and helpful and I always get the feeling that they actually want to help and talk about art and art supplies and really encourage creativity! This consistently great attitude from employees always results in our spending more than we planned too! Every storefront could take some tips from the service provided at Blick Art Materials, especially the one on Walnut St. in Pittsburgh!

I paid 20$ for a Pentel brush pen, that came with 2 refills, the same pen is on jetpens for 15$.

I was browsing the excellent selection, gaining some inspiration when the workers started to swarm. Literally, every 3 mins one of the many employees would ask if I needed help. I didnt. Then they would as again. Apparently browsing is frowned upon so be sure to know what youre looking for. Or just try to ignore the fact that a group of people are all watching you like you are a criminal. I mean, what am I going to do? Smuggle out a giant canvas and 5 lbs of beeswax under my shirt? Good supplies, nonetheless

I used to like this store a lot but a negative experience with an employee changed my opinion. I came here with a few friends over the weekend and an employee took it upon himself to follow us around the store then accuse us of stealing. (But not until after we made our quite legal purchases at the counter.)He was hostile towards us, made me feel uncomfortable the entire time I shopped, and was abrasive when he realized he’d been incorrect in his assumption. I’ve been working as a professional artist for about 10 years and I’ve never felt more uncomfortable in an art supply store. I will not be coming back and I hope the employees learn how to handle situations like this better in the future.I believe he was also under the assumption that we were teenagers (we’re almost 30). Even then an employee shouldn’t treat a customer that way, even if they are young.

Ive been a regular pilgrim to this store back when it was Utrecht on the South Side. The store has just about everything an artist could need but the unfortunate change of location to Shadyside has greatly diminished my trips. Coming from Penn Hills to Shadyside is a nightmare, if this store was still in the South Side, 5 stars. It is easier to park in Oakland these days. Overall excellent store, clean, easy to navigate, has excellent stock, miserable street location.

The employees were following us around everywhere we went and watched us like hawks. At one point we were cornered by 3 employees watching us to make sure we werent stealing. It made my girlfriend and I very uncomfortable. Weve gone into this store at least 3 or 4 times a month. The selection is great but we do not enjoy being treated like thieves.
