I bought 6 lamps from this shop about 5 years back. Peter is extremely knowledgeable and many of his lamps are one of a kind. Since my place is a 1960’s mid century property, his shop was a recommendation from Modern Manor. I highly recommend a visit if you can see past the negative reviews. Most are from people who want to spend the day browsing. If you are a serious lamp hunter, this is the shop for you.

Owner was very knowledgeable and helpful. I was amazed at the variety of lights from the styles to the different lighting eras. Im going back to buy a bath light that matches my homes original character.

I purchased a whole household worth of lighting from Peter many years ago. If you have an appreciation for mid century lighting then you will get along fine with him. Peter has some wonderful stories to share.

In reality I would give it no stars. I am extremely confused as to why the shop is called Modern Lighting since there is nothing modern in there, in fact it looks like a thrift store. It should be called the Goodwill lighting but that would be an insult to Goodwill. The owner (I assume) has 0 social skills and seems to have lots of internal issues going on. I hope one day he finds Jesus or goes to therapy to learn how to be a decent human being or at least learns how to be a sales/customer service professional. His vintage laps would have more potential if his attitude changed.

Horrible experience. My daughter and I walked up to the store at 3:30 on Saturday to a man with a scowl on his face standing at the entrance. He stood there staring at us and when I asked if he was open he just shook his head and continued to stare. What a creep. The website states they are open until 4. Maybe he hates women and children? Don’t bother buying from this terrible person.

0 stars would be more appropriate. The owner or whomever the man that was working on 4/13/19 at 11:30 am is an extremely disrespectful, disgruntled piece of work.I was walking by his store with my daughters to peek around the corner because I couldnt find the shop I was looking for. After the Barber shop owner chased me down and told me I couldnt park there, the absolute jerk Modern Lighting store guy, full of disdain and contempt, said Tow Them, just Tow Them.I looked in disbelief at that man who was just unbelievably rude to a complete stranger, and walked on, keeping my temper in front of my children. The Barber then asked where I was going and directed me to the shop I was looking for. In the Plaza. Where I parked. To that man, I hope that you are treated the way you treat people. You deserve everything you dish out, sir.

Silence of the Lambs is the feel I got when I walked into this place. Creepy, with a creepy, unfriendly owner and his own little precious on the counter. Not worth the energy, no matter what wonderful items he may have in the store. Lots of wonderful places with lovely owners, in the central Phoenix area, and happy to accept my $$$.

Teeny tiny store just bursting at the seams with reasonably priced vintage light fixtures and lamps. The shopkeep is a character, hasnt got a lot of patience for the average boorish git, but if you appreciate mid century modern design, he can be quite helpful, especially considering he knows where everything is in that place. Hours can be erratic, but definitely worth it if youre in the market for something a little different.

This angry little man told me to leave the parking lot - I was a customer of his neighbor, Cowtown Skate, and I stopped to quickly fix something on my motorcycle. I then started to gear up, and he told me rudely that the parking lot is for “customers only”. I politely pointed out I am a customer of Cowtown, And that I was leaving shortly. He said “THEN LEAVE” and shooed me off like a fly.It was about at this point I pointed out his “no trespassing” signs didn’t include motor vehicles parked legally in a spot while being a customer, and he got snippy with me again.I wonder if his landlord knows he is literally “shooing” away customers of other businesses in the lot, solely because he’s a judge mental angry little man who seems to have a problem with a motorcycle. despite liking vintage liking, I would never support someone so incredibly rude and demeaning.Oh, then as I was gearing up to leave, he called the cops on me.

It is clear that many people do not share the owners wit and dry sense of humor. I just had a vintage 1930s art deco lamp re-wired and the owner had selected a very tasteful shade to replace the old 1970s shade that it sported when I dropped it off. As to those who bring in toddlers, this store is not a store I would recommend, given the breakable nature of the merchandise. It is not hard to imagine a shattered lamp and argumentative parent blaming the store owner and refusing to reimburse the store for the breakage. As to the perceived condescending attitude, you need to lighten up.

I read all the negative reviews and Im sure they are true however that is not what I found. I met Peter and had a wonderful conversation he specializes in lamp repair. Has a collection of mid century lighting and furniture. The store is very filled and you have to be careful just walking around as you could break something

My experience was consistent with all the others. Very rude man. Had barely made it in the door when he pointed to my 8 year old son and stated, If you break anything, your mommy has to pay for it. In cash. I looked at my son and said we were going to leave. To which he responded, Sounds like a good idea..

I can confirm that this guy is loathsome. How he is still in business, I have no idea. I went in after conducting business next door. I had my children with me. They are well behaved, and as usual, I carefully warned them not to touch anything. No matter, this guy made it clear that children are not welcome in his store and flatly, loudly and rudely declared I would buy anything that was broken. We had barely walked in the door. Try harder, buddy.

My sister ran into the Art of Framing next door and I wandered into his shop. After looking over some of the lamps I asked the store owner if he was familiar with the Brimfield Antiques Flea Market to which he replied, In Massachussets? That flea market is filled with fat women and neophytes! I was shocked! I could have overlooked the dog on the counter and the filthy nature of the store but, wow, that exchange ensured I would never spend money in his store.

He looked at us up and down and replied in a very despective tone we would not be able to buy the lamp because it wss 400 dollars. I found it at amazon for 30.

We made the FATAL MISTAKE of driving all the way from Buckeye to this mans retail store (habitat). He has a dog gate blocking the door. The store smelled all the way to the sidewalk like an old, musty death cellar. He had crappy lamps all over the sidewalk. We were originally looking for a floor lamp and a bankers lamp. He came out of the shop yelling at us for parking in the space out front (which says it is dedicated for lamp customers) and accusing us of intending to go next door to a coffee shop. WHO runs off their customers before allowing a them to look over the merchandise and further, accuse them of heading off to another business? Needless to say, we got into a shouting match and I told him to take his coffee and use it as an enema!

Beyond terrible! I couldnt even talk to this guy, seriously, I called and he said he had a hard time hearing me... mind you I had made about 30 phone calls prior to calling this store, I hadnt received one mention about me being difficult to hear. Then, after he picked up the phone from having it on speaker phone he rudely asked me what I want, and without even giving me a second to speak he said fine, whatever, i dont care and hung up! I cant believe it! I was wanting to start a new relationship with a lighting supplier and this guy blew it! had no freaking clue!!!!

I had to give it one star, because no star isnt on option! My mother went into the store and ordered glass lamp covers, which were measures by the store owner (obviously not very well) when my mother got her order back it was the wrong fit. When she went back to return them, he tried to convince her to keep them, she told him she didnt want her money back and asked if he could just order her new ones and he responded very condesendingly and said he didnt have the time to deal with her and turned her away. She left the store crying!! On top of that he cut her a personal check! What kind of business is this?? My advice is anyone in need of lighting run dont walk away from this mans business, and make sure you read the sign on the window before walking in, because if you dont match that discription you might be treated just as bad. How this man Peter stays in business is beyond me. What a horrible business owner!!

The unpleasant owner of this store (and I put it in quotes to denote the unprofessionalism with which he carries himself) is certifiable and should be out of business. He kicked me out of his store after I asked a couple simple questions. Hinkleys is just up the road, doesnt have a floor covered in dog poo or an owner ready to rip your head off. Stay far away from this place.
