I went for a late lunch and got the Argentinian special which was 2 empanadas and a salad for $12.XX. The salad was quite interesting, as it was filled with flavors that I’d never tasted before. The chicken empanada was ok, tasted a bit dry. The 2 pastries I purchased were delicious. The mini pie pastry was made with a fruit filling of 2 different fruits.
They have excellent pastries and baked goods. Their empanadas and tortas are pretty good too. Today I went and got the lunch special which has 2 empanadas and a “fancy salad” that was supposed to come with lentils and roasted veggies. The salad was just lettuce and pickled red onion, no dressing. The empanadas were pretty good but the salad was really disappointing and I don’t think it’s worth $14.
This place was amazing, hands down! The best empanadas. I recommend the spicy beef, spicy chicken, and ham and cheese. Went on a little weekend vacation with my boyfriend and we ended up coming here two days in a row - we just could not get enough! The coffee is very good too
Went here for brunch and it was excellent. Really love the open kitchen concept. It was cool seeing your food being made and eating empanadas fresh out of the over. All the pastries were delicious as well. Staff was attentive and friendly..I would most definitely recommend Jezabels if you want to try authentic Argentine baked goods.
Very cute and hospitable cafe! It is quite small and there is usually a line but their food is delicious!! We ate in and the staff were very friendly and the coffee was amazing as well! It is a great spot to grab breakfast or lunch and not spend all your money:) I love that Jezebel came from Argentina to share her amazing food with us here, she has a great story!
Food is just ok. The service is lacking. I ordered 8 pastries and asked for one of the small boxes behind the counter and was told those are for larger orders. So all of the pastries were shoved into a bag that I then had to carry sideways! The credit card machine was not working so I happily said I could use Venmo, but the cashier was rude. Disappointing experience and the pastries were just ok.
Tried it twice. First time I like the empanadas. Second time I thought they were pretty flavorless and dry
Too expensive for tiny empanadas. We tried chicken and leek empanadas and they were nothing memorable. Soup was gazpacho but really sour (they just used a lot of vinegar), throat was hurting afterwards.
Great place to grab a quick bite or to stay to study or catch up with a friend. They sell empanadas and salad and other yummy food. There chicken empanadas are delicious. They have vegetarian options which is also a bonus. The decor is bright yellow with cold and wood. I like the vibe. The staff is kind. I visited in order to study for the GRE and it was quiet but the times there were a lot of people I didnt mind because I just plugged in my headphones. The menu is a little pricy - $3 for an empanada which I would get for 20 cents on the DR but the price is what it is for the location and ambiance. I think my favorite feature is that they have a recycling, landfill and compost bin. I do not mind the price knowing they are environmentally conscious. Love it!!!
Amazing empenadas, particularly spicy beef & spinach mushroom. Her special cookies are light flavourful and truly special.
The absolute best. Fantastic food and really great Instagram content. The sweet and savory items are all fantastic.
Absolutely delicious fresh pastries, coffee, and tea. This place is so good—definitely swing by.
Loooove everything Ive tried from this spot - coffee is great, empanadas and baked goods are delicious!!
I wish I remembered to take a picture of their delicious empanadas. I ordered a mix box that came with 8 empanadas. Also got the lentil chorizo soup. Everything was fantastic. Communication was excellent. And customers service was superb. Just FYI if you’re ordering soup pre-ordered it comes frozen but they heat up quickly and easily after you thaw it out of the container. Pro-tip if you microwave it. Run the soup container under hot water around the outside to get it a bit loose. Then open the container to plop it into your bowl. Heat for a minute covered then push off the soft parts and cut the chunk into smaller pieces. Continue to hear it up a minute to two minute intervals to get the temp to about 135def F. As a mobile PT the empanadas were a great meal on the go and the soup was fantastic to have back at the office.
Argentinian food and the feeling here is super good. Ill return friends next time. The bill wont shock you.
I loved the tarta/quiche. I had the tarta de choclo and de zapallito. The sopa de lentejas y chorizo was delicious as well. The chocolate covered alfajores were very good too. The food is a little pricey but good. The empanadas were ok, not bad but not great. We tried most of the varieties.I lived in Buenos Aires a few years ago briefly so I knew what to expect and I’m very familiar with Argentine food. I would definitely recommend trying their food if you’re interested in tasting some traditional Argentine food.
Argentinian food and the scene at this spot is very good. The staff was very welcoming and observant. This place has an awesome feel to it.
Theyre okay. Underwhelming. next time im goin to a smaller, mom n pop place
Excellent location for tasty argentinian food. i give this place double thumbs up. i will probably become a regular. similar to a cafe in las vegas i liked.
A top place for delicious Argentinian food. Everyone at our table was very satisfied. Will surely make a return trip.
My fav spot for tasty argentinian food. visited near twelve, it was not full. ill return with my relatives. it has a cool atmosphere. food is similar to a cafe in indianapolis i liked.
Amazing deserts and coffe.
Argentinian food, mmm, very delicious. Service is typically good. Mood here reminds me of Colorado Springs area.
My new favorite spot! Food is delicious, fairly priced, and the atmosphere is so calming and light-filled. Love the music and the staff is kind and attentive. I love sitting in the cafe and watching Jezabel cool. I maybe have a tiny crush on her.
Argentinian food and the scene here is very good. Great spot for an appetite of any size. The staff was very welcoming and sociable. Bring your hunger - portions are generous.
I legitimately love this place. The pastries are great (be sure to ask them to warm em up - next level), the teas are delicious, the choices change periodically, and the space is incredibly well designed. This area of West Philly needed something like this for catching those more important coffee meetings where you need to impress. Also excited to have a test kitchen, cooking classes, and a spot to reserve for private events in the hood. The staff is sweet, always willing to give suggestions, and not stingy with the Wi-Fi password, which I appreciate. Great spot to sit and work for a few hours while enjoying a pastry. If the shortbread sandwich cookies with caramel and coconut are available, definitely buy one. Youll thank me later.Jezebel herself is really nice, and often in the space. Her skills at baking, cooking, and furniture making are really impressive.
3 stars only for the Alfajoes de Maciena. I was born & raised in Argentina. Not very impressed with anything else on the menu...
Wow. Delicious.
I have dreams about Jezabels alfajores. I will cut them into quarters and savor one over the course of 2 days. I should probably just go there and get more alfajores. I have no excuse. I am so sorry. Jezabels empanadas are equally wonderful.
Best empanadas in town!
I’m Argentinian. So I was super excited to try this place. They looked amazing. So I got a bunch of stuff. Empanadas, alfajores, pie.Everything looks amazing!TOTALLY A WASTE OF MONEY.The empanadas were frozen in the middle, and the alfajores totally dry.
Good spot for delicious argentinian food. Visited on Sat I believe. Looking forward to coming back with my coworkers. It has a cool atmosphere.
Cute little neighborhood breakfast and lunch spot. They serve Argentinian food but no worries: regular breakfast and lunch are fine. Parking is on the street and that can be very difficult. If you walk, no prob.
Music, coffee, food, service, wifi- all excellent. Everything should be full of leeks, all the time! Having this place in the neighborhood makes my heart happy.
I love Jezebels so much. The staff and owner are extremely kind, the music is great, its a bright, welcoming place to work, and the cappuccinos...
Their iced coffee wasnt that great but the pastries were very yummy. I gave them 5 stars because the atmosphere here is incredible. Right next to the park. Very relaxing beach like atmosphere.
One of my favorite locations for argentinian food. the staff was very helpful and welcoming. the place has a great feel to it.
Love this hideaway cafe! Best empanadas, ice cream, pastries, coffee and fresh squeezed lemonade on the south side of town. Beautiful oasis in a tight neighborhood. Family friendly. Park tennis courts and walking trail near by.
This place really surprised me. For a small shop at the end of the street, it has some amazing food. The empanadas were great and their baked goods werent bad as well. Ill definitely come back in the near future.
Great service. Super friendly. Amazing empanadas. The decor is great, reminds me of the cafes back home in Latin America. I love this place.
The most unfriendly and rude staff in the entire neighborhood. This is a morning establishment and thats not a positive way to start your day. Not to mention everything is over priced because they chose an area with less foot traffic. The VEGAN empanadas are over 3 dollars for a bite size bean filled piece of dough. I attempted this cafe 2 times because I was desperate and nothing else is in the area. Both times swore Id never go back. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! Go the extra few blocks.
I love this jewel of a Cafe. It is beautifully designed and I like the smallness of it. The coffee, pastries and empanadas are excellent. I have always had very good, polite service there. Unique, lovely cafe that I wish was closer to me. When in the neighborhood stopping at Gavins in first on my list. In fact now Im thinking of it... I have to go there today!
Paid a lot of money for a Mothers day event ($100/pair)- which started late bc owner was late and disorganized. The cooking event only allowed one person per pair to participate, so it was very boring and what we made was bland (the ricotta torte). When brunch was served it was such small servings that my son ended up buying more food, and then when we left we all got even more food elsewhere. Owner kept forgetting to bring us creme freche, and ended up bringing us something else for the dry scones, which tasted more like a southern biscuit, and was literally bite size. Also did not get the fresh orange juice that was in the event description. Top it off, my son was hungry when we arrived. I asked for something to tide him over - and then when the brunch was served it was minus what they gave him earlier. Really, for that price??? I sent an e-mail to owner, and no response - its been over a week.
Great empanadas! Very nice tea shop and bakery, with a very pleasant atmosphere and pleasant service. There are vegetarian options as well as meat for the empanadas, as well as other baked goods.
Love the empanadas! All the Argentine food is top notch. The space is tight and a bit drab in the back.
Good food, desserts hand made... and really great coffee. Very dangerous having this so close to home, ha!
Im a huge fan of the empanadas here. Not that theres much competition. But they are well seasoned, perfectly crispy, and overall an excellent breakfast. Also, its not too hard to find a table here... This place seems undercrowded given its quality.
Great authentic cuisine. The lunch special with 2 empanadas and a salad cant be beat. Small amount of seating, so dining in can be a bit hit or miss, but their coffees and deserts are great to-go too!
Im lucky to have this as my neighborhood cafe. Wonderful empanadas, pastries and coffee. Ive always had good service here, but it is small so when it gets crowded, you may have to wait a bit.
I saw Jezabe’s café at visit Philly stories and after that I was dreaming about the empanadas. Today, I didn’t resist and I went there. They looked tasty, so I bought three to go, then I asked for sauce and they didn’t have any, I left disappointed. I got more disappointed when I bit the empanadas and realized that is only beauty and no tasty.
Great place for a traditional Argentinian light meal. Prices a bit high but cozy and great for conversation.
I really want to love this place because theres no other Argentine cafes I know of, but the flavorless pastries & food overall does not match their high prices. Shame.
Cozy and tasty. They serve a good salad in the side of their empanadas for lunch.
Charming little place usually for the locals but we were privileged enough to see this place on our tour of the city by Philly by Segway. Seating is limited but the pastries and coffee were excellent. Thanks to Ben from the Segway tour for showing us a little taste of Philly.
Like the food and able to sit outside. Would prefer a better tea selection.
Good empanadas, teas, and ham & cheese croissants.
Im a vegetarian so could only try the veggie empanada which I didnt like very much. However, the side salad is the best Ive ever had yet.
Food was amazing. Everyone was friendly and just a great place for breakfast.
Love it!!! The food is super yummy and the staff very friendly.
Nice location, nice service. The food looks good, but sadly is not. The crust of the empanadas was dense, dry. While the menu was appealing the ham&cheese empanadas, were not very flavourful. The corn and lentils empanadas were also very bland, the lentils were dry. The ricotta torta looked great but again a little salt would have helped the orange zest flavours, instead the taste is mostly defined by the ice sugar on top which was a bit disappointing. The salad was great and fresh. Also the place on a Sunday morning was full with 6 employees and the same number of customers which considering the number of items on the menu or the size of the place seems like wat too many and created a bit of disorganisation.I would go back for the coffee, not the food.
Ordered food at 6:30 pm Jezabels closing at 7pm. Staff started cleaning round us while we waited for food to be heated. At 6:50 we had to ask if our food was ready. Staff said she forgot our order. Wait staff gave us half our order....continued to clean we had to tell her what we ordered a second time. We had to once again for our food, waitress said she forgot again..took our food out of toaster over over done...a bit burnt. We ii mentioned it was burnt she said. SHE WAS NOT USED TO SERVING FOOD AT THAT LATE HOUR.....too busy packing up and taking the remainder of the food in restaurant..Dont belive we would go back!
When to Jezabel for the first time yesterday. I haven’t had empanadas in a very long time and they were TO DIE FOR!! Any place I go the empanadas are usually fried but the ones here are baked and delicious. And the filling.... omg just perfect!!! Also the cashier was the sweetest human Ever. I don’t know what his name was but he was very kind. Can’t wait to go back !!!
Went yesterday for 1st time ever, For national Empanada day. The tall gentleman at register took my order, waited a few because I wanted my empanadas warmed. After They were warmed up, he bagged them up, which I paid no mind to because my order was Clear to him, so i thought. I get my bag, thank him and leave. Get into car, we pull off, and I open bag ready to dig into one and notice Im 3 short! I went back, explained to him I was 3 empanadas short. He says oh, Im sorry...I didnt charge you for 3 spicy corn empanadas He mustnt had heard me, when I WAS SO CLEAR ABOUT IT BECAUSE I POINTED TO ALL THE EMPANADAS I WANTED. He only gave me 8 which the total was$23.50. He said well Ill just give you the 3 and charge you. Im like oh no, I dont think so, ..after i already paid $ 23.50. He kept apologizing for the mix up, but wouldve been nice to get the 3 on the house for it. He gave me chimmichuri sauce for free..smh. Anyways, food was good, but paying attention to detail is important. Dont think ill be going anytime soon.
Cozy Argentinian cafe. Great scones and coffee in the morning, and wonderful empanadas all day.
This is a lovely place. The empanadas are delicious.
Loved it! Best service ever
Food is meh. nice atmosphere but kind of stuffy and overcrowded.
Beautiful little gem, with delicious food and drinks. Empanadas are a must have every time Im here!
Love the empanadas and alfajores, great Capuchinos too!
Prices are high and the Argentine products do not taste like in Argentina. Empanadas are kind of empty, but the alfajor de maicena is good. The price is nice, though a bit small, and the restroom is very small.
Great place for coffee and scones, lunch and other delicious food.
Very good setting coffee and service, empanadas could be better
The only thing wrong with Gavins Cafe is that it isnt closer to my house. I went on a beautiful fall morning and had a perfect cup of coffee with one spinach and one ham and cheese empanada. The sunny interior is a gem, with the old oak bar from its former incarnation lovingly restored. Its hard to imagine that such a serene spot was once probably filled with noise and smoke, but if the space had to sit empty for 20 years until Chef Careaga found and transformed it, we’ve all won. I left with a half dozen empanadas to share for lunch, a copy of the menu, and the firm intention of returning very, very soon.
I just discovered this cute little corner cafe. Got an Orangina and found an outlet to charge my dying phone...will be back for pastry, coffee, and empanadas.
You must go to Jezabels. Her Argentinian sweet pastries, like her alfajores de maicena, or her empanadas are very tasty! The place is very nice and cozy and is in a nice and quiet corner of Fitler Square. Getting some work done in the outdoor tables in a sunny day is very pleasant!
The Empanadas are yummy, customer service Yikes ! Im not sure if the lady making them is the owner but she is super rude! No space to move around in there, so maybe thats why they are so grumpy!
Overpriced.....food is not good and sandwiches are a mess when you take them to go. Dont go here.
Nice food and service but tiny
Went on Sunday at 10 am. Nothing I asked for was available. No beef empanadas, no bagels, no alfajores. I also agree that the service was poor. The woman taking orders was rude.
I have enjoyed the Argentinian empandas and alfajores from this cozy Fitler Square cafe for years. Chef Jezabel makes delicious and authentic Argentinian recipes that keep bringing me back. It doesnt hurt that Gavins Cafe also sells La Colombe coffee which is one of my favorites in Philadelphia.
Delicious stuff, decent atmosphere
Female owner was irrate when I parked in a parking area behind bldg. There were no signs posted forbidding customers from parking. Parking in area is impossible therefore I assumed the parking spot was an option for paying customers. Never tasted the food, never will. They miserably failed the attitude test.
Ive only been to Jezabels once. The staff was friendly but the menu is limited. The bathroom is tiny & I got a sense that this place was not very clean.
Delicious pastries, nice ambiance
Ive gone twice. Everything is made from scratch behind the counter in the morning, all the breads, the empanadas, fresh squeezed OJ. Its very good.
Disapointed, empanadas to small and no much variety
Great coffee and the medialunas are incredible
The wifi just never works
Everything is so good, try any empanadas
Well its juat a small place thats all I dont drink coffee but the people are there are wonderful
My favorite coffee shop. Empanadas and a coffee.
Omg, those croissants.
Great place to eat and relax
Great place for casual breakfast
Wonderful, polite service!
Bad empanadas
Food was awesome
