The first picture was the first time I went there the next picture was the second time I went there the first time the food was seasoned very well the young lady was very nice and pleasant at the window I really enjoyed that experience the second time I went the food wasnt really seasoned that much I didnt get as many oxtails as I would have liked and the lady behind the counter was a little short abrasive maybe she had a bad day I may go back and a couple weeks or so. All in all I did enjoy the food I seasoned my food a little more the second time.
A little on the hood side, but the food is alright depending on who the cook is. I purchased an oxtail platter recently, and for $25.00 I thought I would have gotten way more food (oxtail). My advice to the owner is to recognize that all chefs are not created equal. The Food was way several years ago when I used to frequent this place.
I ordered curry chicken w/ yams, Mac & greens. NONE OF THE FOOD HAD FLAVOR! None. This was my first time trying this place and honestly, I dont know if I came on an off day, but I ended up just throwing the entire platter away because the food was disgusting. The noodles for the Mac & cheese were incredibly mushy and had no flavor. The chicken was dry and tasteless. The greens and yams were cooked well but had literally no flavor. Never again.
Nasty food! I love oxtail. But this restaurant was highly disappointing! No flavor. Overcooked. Not seasoned well. Rice was watered down. Oxtail was sweet and not tasty. Waste of money.
EXCELLENT ... BEST JAMAICAN FOOD IN THE CITY OF PHILLY ๐๐พ๐๐พ๐๐พ
My family and I have been dining since 2017. Amazing food, neatly placed and hefty. If youโre slender eat at KJ youโll pick up the weight. Friendly owner and most of welcoming.
The food is tasty with generous portions at a good price. No tables outside so I get my meals to go. Wonderful cakes and beverages, too.
Just recommended to a friend. Had Curry Chx platter Medium with collards, rice and beans and yams. Hefty portion and price a little high but well worth the weight and quality.Overall a heavy hitter and legit spot for Caribbean.Call ahead to avoid long wait at window (still not open inside)
The food was delicious oxtails were tender and the staff was patient and gave good service with a smile (behind the mask)๐ท
One of my favorite Jamaican restaurants in Germantown. Sizes and Portions are very good. Good spot
Fantastic food, fantastic service and I wish Id live closer and if I did Id be there every day
Food was excellent. Service was ok.
I have been going to K&J for about 5 years now and Iโm rarely disappointed. Their platters range from about $8-$15 (depending on meat and platter size); they also offer lunch platter discounts too.I go primarily for the curried goat, plantains, veggie patties, and fried dumplings. They have a good selection of desserts available also; I recommend the sweet potato cheesecake if you want a suggestion. Do know that some things do run out faster than others, so give them a call if youโre going around lunch or rush hour times.Stop in and give them a try...you wonโt know if you like it until you do. Be warned, if you plan to use your credit/debit cards, you will need to also present your ID, and there is a $10 minimum.
Great authentic Caribbean food. Reasonable prices and substantial portions
I just recently started going to this place and I love the food but I received bad customer service especially yesterday. I tried to call before I got there and there was no answer. I get to the window and after calling through the window a couple of times an older lady comes and tells me I must call (she wouldnt take my order until I called) I told her ai tried and she said the phone was right there and it didnt ring so I called (I really had a craving for the food). I also asked a question and received a sarcastic remark. I received the food and I still tried to clarify my earlier question and was dismissed. Overall good food but the customer service sucks!
This is nastiest jamaican food i have ever tasted got curry goat it was horrible that best jamaican food to me out there is RONs sorry not sorry
I ordered from food from here around mid day and I was given old food that stunk. I could t even eat it. My daughter kept asking what that funky smell was!!! Iโm very disappointed because I always order food from here. The guy at the counter was very lackadaisical, and not like the usual ladies there. Iโm never ever ordering from here again. They should be shut down for serving old food from yesterday.
The food was not tasty very poorly cooked old no flavor and over priced I ordered beef ribs I only received two (ribs)with a medium ordered it cost $20. I will never go back again plus they gave my candy yams I never ordered that I asked for mac & cheese moreover the rice was under cooked.
Bruh, Iโm so tired of spending my money on poor tasting food. The reviews had me hoping this was a good Jamaican restaurant. No... itโs not. Donโt let these tasteless reviews steer you in this direction. The season isnโt there, just alil salt pepper would go a long way. The cabbage wasnโt seasoned AT ALL and they mightโve used two slices of cheese for my Mac cheese. Yeah the proportions are big but the taste is lacking severely, itโs really annoying. Idk if it was the cook but this is my second time here and the food was lack luster. K&J, please, use more seasonings next time. Itโs really a shame when food is nasty when it doesnโt have to be. Wouldnโt recommend. So mad I spent my money here!
Call ahead! They have a walk-up window for orders. I got bbq chicken, plantains, and mac n cheese. I also got a slice of lemon cake. It was all delish.
Before placing my order for the honey roasted chicken, I asked what piece of chicken and was told the leg quarter. What I got was five pieces of what I guess is chicken, something I can not identify. This has to be the worst.
I ordered oxtails, rice, cabbage, and Mac and cheese. Food was so bland and tasteless. Super disappointed! Bring back the pandemic cook!! Only 2 stars because the meat that wasnโt covered in fat was tender.
The food is delicious and they usually have king fish.
Oxtail medium dinner was pretty good.
I cant believe Im writing this but the food here is not as good as it used to be. I have had my order taken down wrong on more than one occasion. Only to be met with a very combative attitude by the older woman (owners wife) that works there. If seen her speak to people very rudely and didnt tolerate it when she tried to speak to me that way. Never do you EVER speak to a customer who spends their hard earned money with disrespect. My chicken was dry as well as my rice and peas. My mac an cheese was watery and was not cheesy at all, I threw it away. Also too much salt is used on alot of the food. Have you switched cooks??The owners and cooks really need to sit down and talk about how to make things better because its apparent that something isnt right. Dont come here out of convenience just because its close by. There are fantastic spots in Philly do your research.Jamaican Ds is another option that is 1 mile away from this place. Grill and Dutchy around the corner from here are also good too.
Not only did they go up on prices for oxtails to $20 for a medium but this time the tails tasted horrible. I was shocked i ate from there for over ten years and never had that quality. Definitely wont return
A little slow with getting us the food, but good food though ๐๐ฟ๐๐ฟ๐
Great food great timing dont wait to long food always ๐ฅ pleasant servuce
The food is very good. You get a lot for your money.
I would have gave 5 stars but they dont do jerk shrimp ๐คฃ
Love it, Food is absolutely delicious!
Stopped by to pick up some beef patties, and they we great. Get to get them while they last because they were all out when I went for more.
After phone order only took 10 minutes for my order to be done. I have tried the Jerk & BBQ Jerk chicken both where great
The food here is very good. The prices for the goat and ox tails have sky rocketed.
This was the first Jamaican place I visited in Philadelphia. Great food. I recommend spending a couple extra bucks and getting a fried or escovitch fish.Delicious food, great vibes. Great community place.
Best food in gtown and much needed alternative to pizza, pizza galore. Iโve had the jerk chicken and itโs smoked and spicy. Admittedly the sides are lighter (understandably) in flavor but still great fillers. The yams have a hint of star anise that elevates it unlike others. Overall- tops the neighborhood options by a mile. If you want your stomach to smile, I recommend this spot. Go there, share your experience.
Awesome food for years the only one I go to over 25years
Delicious food ๐
Food is rocking! Ive had the BBQ beef ribs and fried Whiting which have been incredible. My dad had the salmon and said it was really good as well. Rice and beans with cabbage or collards and youre good to go! Im headed there right now haha
The fried chicken platter was on point.
Red snapper is delicious
I ordered 2 large oxtail platters asked for xtra gravy! The website said they were 11.50 each! I was prepared to pay 23.00. Was I wrong it came to 40.00. I brought that to the owners attention ( showed her the menu from my phone) and she told me it was wrong! She then passed me a paper menu! She said she doesnโt know who posted that on her website! Take it down then!!!!!!
I ordered a large curry goat paltter with three sides of cabbage. I am diabetic and cant eat the rice and peas or macaroni. The goat must have been cooked days before and was tasteless and chewy. The cabbage was mushy and had no seasoning but there was one chunk of carrot in each sied order. This was the worst caribbean food I ever ate.
Always good
Loved the medium Oxtail Platter !
Always good food - theres a few Caribbean joints peppered throught the city, but only a few. If you really want authentic Caribbean food, this is the only restaurant you should consider. Its more of a take-out spot then a sit down restaurant, although you can eat-in. But the food is excellent and their patties are buttery, spicy, and amazing. My favorite there is the honey chicken and the salt fish. Great food and you get a good deal for your money IMO.
Traveled all the way from Jersey to Philly for Chicken soup and it was well worth it.Wished I had bought more even for freezing ๐๐ผ
Food amazing
The best ever. No greens tho
The food was horrible. We bought food from here before and it was good. Last night was the worst. The chicken was so dry and so was the rice. Asked for extra gravy and they didnโt give it to us. They have to do better!!!!
Look if you want some really good Jamaican food hit them up its worth a try....
Good food. Good service during the pandemic
Ox tails good rice and beans a little light
Not very good. When a place has an older that can mean that the meat is bad. Workers smoking outside they do not wash their hands when they come in.
Great food, healthy portion a good place to get your moneys worth. If you like jerk chicken youll love this.
Their menu said 11.50 so ordered over the phone &when i got there they said its 25.00...saying that menu isnt right so i asked why werent i told upon making my order being though its that much of a difference.....never again just lost me๐ก๐ก๐ก๐ก
Foo is too spicy
Great food and reasonable platter prices.
Food was good
Food wasnt the best. Customer service wasnt nonexistent.
Food was fresh and really good.
Wouldnt go any other place for Caribbean food. They are really good
This place is worth giving a shot. They have large portions for fair prices. Always clean and with fantastic atmosphere. Will come visit again.
Good place to eat. The older woman have to work on her attitude. She just says whatever she want out of her mouth to customers. Been eating here for years, but no customer should feel threatened by a person serving them something to eat.
Love the food here. I can tell when someone puts love in the food and I can taste every bit if it. The red snapper is cooked whole and is seasoned to perfection. I live my collards with a little spice and they have the perfect balance. The yams are perfectly sweet not too much and not too little. Rice and peas are awesome too with just the right amount of spice. Its my third time eating here and havent gone wrong yet will definitely keep coming back.
Food is Great never Dissatisfied.
I visited this place a week ago, I got a medium curry goat and a medium oxtail and soup.. it was not good at all, the collard greens were from a can the green beans were from a can I think the rice and peas were cooked the day before..there was too much ketchup in the oxtail and the curry goat didnt have enough flavor.. not to mention the soup, it was over seasoned and too thick.. no one eat their food so that was a wasted $37 will never go back!.
The food was delicious. I ordered pepper steak, rice and beans with ox tail sauce on top, macaroni and cheese, and cabbage. The medium size platter was enough to eat for lunch and dinner on day one and lunch on day 2. The only thing I would change is to drain some of the juice to eliminate the leakage. (Same review posted on Yelp)
I love the food and the portions are enough for a 2 day meal.
Food was ok rice and plantains were real dry
Very tasty! A variety of good sized portions from 2 sizes below small to large ; youll eat well even if your budget is conservative that moment. Very nice people! Metered parking. Good location for busy part of town.
Great Food
Its a wonderful place to go to K&J Caribbean American Jamaican food has a lot of different choices of food you can choose from their menu and they let you take your time to choose what meal you want from their restaurant the K&J American Jamaican food is wonderful and delicious and people enjoy their food because the people there they take their time to make the food smell so good and taste very delicious in your mouth you will love their food just go there and try and taste their food and the people there are friendly and nice and very kind to you. This is a good place to go when you do not want to cook at home you can go out to the K&J Caribbean and American Jamaican food they take their time to make sure you have the right platters for yourself and for your family thank you very much for your hospitality service that you give to your community everyday in Philadelphia and God bless you for what you do serving on to your customers answer me.
1. Food - This is one of the only Caribbean/Jamaican food places I enjoy. They seem to be a bit different from the rest. I enjoy their fried chicken, string beans, sweet potatoes, dumplings, and festivals.2. Prices - Are very reasonable. Dishes range from mini ($6) to large ($12).3. Customer service - Pleasant. Ive never had any issues.4. Wait time - Its not overly crowded most of the early noon hour. Id say 2-10 mins, depending upon the crowd and time of day.
Young lady working there haa poor customer skills... Does not know how to talk customers. I will not be back... Take your elsewhere ad well...
Waited 20 minutes in sun for order that never came. Very poor service. Will be going to other locations in area that have way more people but know how to take multiple orders at same time.
Great food & service
Best ox tails ever!
Jerk chicken, cabbage, rice and beans smothered in oxtail gravy.... get it trust me its delicious
Server had a bad attitude and i got home food was all over the place.. she threw my food in the bag .. messy
The food is above average but isnt the best. The Yams are dry, and they use quite a lot of vinegar on the greens. They are good on certain items
The food and service is excellent 5 stars for me
The food is good
Tonight 3-9-2020 Got a large oxtail mac and cheese and greens was the worse 15$ I ever spent the oxtails are tough af the mac and cheese and greens are bland af... first time and last time eating here ever again...the rice and peas are half done NOT COOL FOR CARIBBEANS TO MESS THEIR OWN TYPE OF FOOD UP.. ILL STICK TO GOING TO LITTLE DELICIOUS AND THEIR IN SOUTH WEST. I LIVE IN GERMANTOWN...VERY SAD ๐ฃ๐ฃ๐คฎ๐คฎ
This is a really clutch location for inexpensive food, but the taste of the food I have found at least, depends on who you get at the counter when you get there. The first time I ordered a medium size meal just with jerked chicken and mac & cheese (they make sure you get more than your moneys worth) and the jerked chicken really tasted like nothing at all. A mother and her son were working, and I noticed they kept all the food hot through out the day. Several times I went back and an older gentleman was working and the chicken was much tastier than the first and the meal was definitely fulfilling. Service is super fast so depending on who you get, you cant go wrong.
The food used to be really good. But now its bland and theres hardly any cheese in the mac n cheese. She doesnt give you gravy so its often dry. I stopped going there for a while because of her bad attitude. The food was good so I returned after a while. But the food is too mediocre to put up with her rude impatience and unpleasantness. I usually spend $45 + everytime I visit and I always tip. The last experience was terrible so I am done with this place and Im not going back again. She should value her loyal customers. Especially because I am always friendly and appreciative to her but its not reciprocated. I can spend my money elsewhere
Very nice experience. Food is very good and the staff is friendly. Visit this K & J regularly and so far never had a complaint about the food.
I would recommend this place. We had oxtails, yams, beans and rice, greens, and Mac& cheese. My wife wanted cinnamon and nutmeg in the yams but otherwise it was all good.
