Old school service station. They will provide full service at the pump, if you like. I highly recommend this station for folks who need a little extra help. Free air. Nice folks.
You have to love a gas station that still has attendees who come out to wipe your windshields. The mechanics are also incredible helpful. Only issue is their being closed on and around holidays, which isnt so bad because it just means the owners believe their team deserves time off. I absolutely support that.
Warning warning warning!!!!The tow truck drivers were rude and talked down to people. The tow driver said the cost would be $300 out of pocket unless they towed it to their body shop, Davis Collision to have it fixed. Then it would be $0. PLEASE DONT EVER USE OKEMOS MARATHON TOWING EVER!!!!!! SHADY BUSINESS PRACTICE.
My vehicle died on Grand River Ave. Since they were towing decided to have them service it also. They were able to take care of it and have me back on the road within 90 minutes and the price was much lower than expected.
My daughter is a young college student who has been having a lot of problems with her car recently. She called to make an appointment after trying to make one on her AAA app and they laughed at the fact that she tried to schedule the appointment online. They called her honey over the phone and in person. She explained that when she would start the car sometimes the engine would sputter and all the lights would come on and stay on, that the car would die in the middle of the road, and often just wouldnt start. The mans response was you do realize that lights are supposed to come on when you turn the ignition, completely disregarding everything else that she said. She asked for her key back and went elsewhere because they were patronizing and basically told her that they wouldnt really be able to help. Would not recommend to other women.
They always go out of their way to be very helpful
It was an emergency as we were in town for one day. They took the car and we had it back with new rear brakes in a few hours. Excellent service.
One of the few stations that will pump your gas, check your oil and clean your windshield if you want.
Chris came to tow my car to the dealership. He was able to look at it, and figure out the problem, no towing or dealership necessary. He put my mind at ease, and made my day better in less than 2 hours from when I called the insurance for a tow. Amazing friendly, knowledgeable, fast service. Best experience Ive had with a tow truck.
I’ve lived near woods marathon since I was a kid but hadn’t been back as an adult. I LOVE that they still having an attendant that comes out, greets you, and cleans your windshields. They guy who came out who must of been high school or early 20s, was kind and professional and asked if there was anything else he could do for me today. You just don’t see politeness and old school class like this anymore. To see it at this small hometown gas station makes me so happy. If you’re near woods marathon be sure to support local and experience this small gesture that we’ve gotten so far away from 😊
I had a driver come out about a week ago to change my girlfriend’s tire. He was very rude and unprofessional and was bad mouthing the business for not providing him any tools. He ended up using the kit that came in our vehicle. He didn’t set the jack right and our vehicle sustained damage because of it. The way that he treated my girlfriend was completely uncalled for and he blamed her for not waiting away from him and for “hovering”. I have dealt with Wood’s for years but this changed my whole view on the company. My girlfriend and I will never be using them again. DO NOT RECOMMEND!
Card reader at pumps are iffy on accepting cards but the staff is absolutely amazing.
My son goes to Michigan State and has an older car. It broke down on the way home for summer break. We feel very fortunate to have been referred to Woods Marathon. Doug did a great job on his car and stayed in contact with me which I appreciated. I would highly recommend for their honesty and professionalism.
$400 to replace a tie rod, would not go back.
I contacted Liberty Mutual roadside assistance for get my Equinox towing and they send Okemos Marathon to my way. Outstanding towing service ever I have, forgot the driver name and he done phenomenon job get our Equinox to Graff Okemos from dance studio without hassles. Thank you Okemos Marathon! I highly recommendation this service in Okemos area.
I have been a customer here for over thirty years. The staff is always very friendly and extremely professional. Their prices are very fair and reasonable. They will always stand behind their work and if you are not satisfied they will make it right. I have always been extremely satisfied every time I have my vehicle repaired. Mike is a fantastic mechanic, the best I have ever seen. I highly recommend Okemos Marathon to everyone I know.
One of the best places for car repair in the area!!! Great prices and expert repair.
Today was my first time stopping here as I tend to go to another station where I have my rewards. But, Ill be back! I was pleasantly surprised to have a gentleman come out and say good morning and wash my windows while I was pumping gas. And then before leaving he made sure to ask if there was anything else I needed. There arent a lot of places left where true service and care is valued or offered so I absolutely love when I can find one. Amazing service and I will definitely come back whenever I am out in okemos.
Hooked me up! Tow and fair labor charge to handle a goofy parts exchange and install my alternator! Helped me out of a bind at just the cost of labor and tow! Daryls great work, and Mike handled the logistics...in and out in half a day or less! Thank you guys!
These guys are the best! Theyre so fast and friendly! I love that they come out and wash your windows and check your oil! Your dog will also love this place. They always come out and greet them with treats! I will never go anywhere else again!
The best service in town and friendly staff. They go above and beyond to make sure your vehicle is running correctly. Ive had brake work, engine work, and other services at this location. Hands down Okemos Marathon is better than any dealership you will go to in the area. Highly recommend.
For what it is worth, I love this gas station. I truly feel that they are the epitome of customer service. They still have attendants that come out to assist you, wash your windows, ask how you are doing, just check to see if they can do anything for you. It is a welcome addition to the normal customer service of today. The inside of the convenience store is not the greatest and could really use a minor makeover or even a major one! But overall, they run a great shop should you ever need one, and the customer service is amazing. The price is relatively on par with the rest of the area, it is well positioned in a busy part of town and works for my needs. They have a tow service and a mechanic shop. If I had a complaint it would be the location of the ingress/egress and the proximity to the traffic circle. It gets a bit tough to get out during rush hour. But other than that, a great gas station.
At 8:30pm I realized I had a screw in my tire and thought for sure nobody would be open till the next morning. Not only did someone still answer the phone but said come on in. I had a very nice young man fix my tire and get me back on the road in under 10 mins. So thankful!!
I have never in my entire existence had a worse experience with a tow truck company. I dont say that lightly, I have had to use my fair share over the years and they are the scum of the bottom of the barrel. The dispatcher was awful, the tow truck guy (young, red hair) was just as bad. This company has absolutely no respect for customers and awful customer service.
I always trust this place.
Excellent customer service! Very knowledgeable and dependable staff. Luis made the best out of a terrible situation for me. I will definitely be using their services from now on! I highly recommended them!
One of the many towing services in Lansing that take advantage of their ability to tow cars. Will not work with you. Gas prices however are decent
My daughters car broke down and was towed to Okemos Marathon. We are from out of town and dont know anyone in the area. Mike was very helpful, honest and knowledgeable and went out of his way to help us resolve our issue. Thank you Mike (and Chris, who we bought a car from!) for all your help!
There are not very many SERVICE stations left. This is one of the few. Staff is always polite and friendly. They wash your windows and will pump your gas. I urge everyone to patronize this business. Even if you dont mind pumping your own gas, itz nice to know where there is someone who can help Elders with this task, especially in the colder weather!
I got my truck stuck in the snow today. I was in Okemos so I called Okemos Marathon for a tow. We had 6 of snow overnight so I thought Id be in for a long wait. Okemos Marathons truck was there within ten minutes. The gentleman winched me out of the snow and I was on my way very quickly. Thank you for the great, fast and friendly service.
I’ve unfortunately had two different problems with my car and both times I’ve came here and they’ve been amazing. Fixed a problem I had from another mechanic and then fixed my car when I had an accident. Got my car back, and better, in a timely manner. Fun and friendly staff for sure!
A few weeks ago, my battery discharge light came on, on my way to work. I immediately called Woods Marathon Gas Station and was able to bring my car over right away. One of the guys even gave me a ride back to work. 3 hours later, my car was fixed (alternator) and ready to pick up. The guys were so awesome and pricing was very reasonable. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for car repairs. Friendly staff and great service!
Woods Marathon is my go to place for my vehicle! They are trustworthy, which means a lot, these days. And WOW, is it nice to have your windows washed while you fuel up, and also to have help with filling tires when needed! They are super-friendly and accommodating, which is so helpful with my schedule. I highly recommend Woods Marathon for all of your car care needs!!
Very very kind and friendly.
I was stuck in the middle of the road on the road with AAA on the phone after figuring out they cant help me. A lovely policeman called a tow truck for me which just so happened to be from Okemos Marathon. It got there within minutes and the driver was very nice. He recommended places to go (Im as clueless about cars as I am about what to do when I get stuck in the middle of the road). If I ever need a tow again, I know who to call this time. Thank you to my driver for guiding this clueless woman to the right place.
Just stop to get some gas in my car, and as I was finishing up, a nice young man from Woods marathon popped over and clean my rear and front when shell without me even asking. Was totally and completely surprised by the level of customer service their staff provides.
If I was able to label the quality of service I received working with Woods, it would be far less than poor - fair. Dont take your vehicle here unless you want to be cheated and belittled the entire time.About a month ago, I called Woods because my husband and I thought that his fuel pump was going bad. We arent mechanics, but with an old truck, it seemed legitimate. I told this suspicion to the service manager, Mike, who told me that would absolutely not be the problem with the symptoms being produced. Because he was a mechanic, I trusted him. After two hours of diagnosis (nearly $200), we were told it was something else, but we were missing the catalytic converter and to work on any part of the exhaust system it needed to be replaced. With this estimate, we did not want them to go further with the job, but were still curious about if they checked the fuel pump. When I asked, they said, well, yeah, thats the first thing we check with that problem. Mike belittled me the entire time I worked with him, and after all of that, we found out the problem with the truck had nothing to do with the exhaust system, but instead was the distributor gear. So, I was given the wrong diagnosis yet had to pay the ridiculous diagnosis fee because they dont know what they are doing. Once again, just avoid Woods Marathon if you can, and if you cant, simply avoid Mike at all costs, especially if you are a woman.
Needed a car towed and instead of towing to a dealer for repair I had auto towed to them for them to repair.Service for towing was good.Service/Information provided by mechanic was great. For the first time using them for repair will not hesitate to use again or recommend them.Reason for not a 5 Star is total bill cost. They need to work on communication for billing.A customer should never have to speak with two people for a total bill. When calling a customer back cost given to customer should include both towing and repair service if both were used.Or should considered waving the towing cost if repair services are completed thru them.
Still waiting for a tow truck that I called AAA for more than 3.5 hours ago... to be honest, 1 star is being generous. This company obviously doesn’t care about its customers.
I am an MSU professor. I have relied on Woods Marathon for over 25 years to provide all service for my cars and pickup. The quality and service has always been excellent. The mechanics have provided great advice and provided alternatives. This is a wonderful family run, independent small business that is highly respected and trusted in the community. I have sent many friends and colleagues here and they have all been satisfied.
They went over a list of stuff another shop said I needed. They showed me what the other shop claimed was bad and turned out it wasnt. Okemos marathon saved me 600 in repairs. These guys are honest and if anything theyre great for a second opinion. Theyve earned my business!
I am changing my rating because I was contacted by the owner who talked to me about my service. He pointed out that their pricing is right in line with what other local car repair services are for a serpentine belt replacement. I called a few other places on my own to receive quotes and he was correct. Marathon is in the same range as most other auto repair shops. I will leave the original review below incase anyone would like to read it.Was towed to them on a Sunday when nothing else was open because a belt snapped from when my AC seized up. I told them I wanted to replace it with a belt that fits the same year but without AC (so it would be a shorter belt). They told me that theyve never heard of that before. They instead wanted to install a kit to bypass it and it was going to be nearly $300. I told them no thank you. Eventually they called me back a few hours later and said that they could in fact do my original request. In the end they charged me about $100. The belt itself costs about $40 and takes less than ten minutes to replace. I was just about ready to do it myself. I feel that they were trying to take advantage of me and then overcharging me because they had to research a different repair method than the one they originally wanted to do. I would not recommend this place.
Recently I took my 20 year-old Ranger pickup in for oil change and Mike the mechanic noticed some serious rust-through on front end suspension. To replace the parts would have cost more than the truck was worth. But, Mike recommended taking it to Bannish Welding to ask if the parts could be reinforced by welding on plates. This was done for $350 and allowed me to keep the truck on the road. This is another example of great advice and great service from experts with many years experience in the Lansing area, and who care about their customers.
I have taken my car to this service center twice and have been extremely satisfied with my experience! The mechanics (Mike, Doug, and Darrol) knew exactly what the issues were with my vehicle and quoted me very fair and reasonable pricing for the services that were needed. They didnt tack on any extra unnecessary repairs or costs, which represented their exceptional work ethic and outstanding customer service! I will be visiting them for all of my future auto needs and highly recommend them for all of your vehicle needs! 👍😊
Always friendly. Always fair. They got my front end alignment done early even though I dropped it of later than I planned. Thank you.
I work for an insurance company in the area. Woods is the only tow service I call for my clients. Unlike H&H Mobil, I know the guys at woods are going to charge the same amount regardless of nationality or race. At the same time they are extremely nice, helpful and care about their community.Keep up the good work
Excellent Service, top notch mechanics!!
I will NEVER use this place again. I needed my car towed and requested a flatbed not only once but 3 times, I come to find out they didnt use a flatbed to tow my car for 60 miles!!!!!! Not only that but the man who picked my car up was very rude and didnt seem to want to answer any of my questions. I would give this place 0 stars if I could. Horrible service.
This is a 5 star to off-set the 1 star a reviewer left for the wrong business. The one with Josh as a manager. This place is about as stand up as they come. Not without its problems, but in general an asset to the town.I know Chris, the owner, and he has put in countless hundred hour weeks in the tow trucks. He cares about the business and came up with John Wood (This used to be Woods Marathon).Honest repair and towing from a locally owned company.
I went in to the dealership for an oil change and was told that my inner tie rod needed replacing. The quote was for over $1200. When I questioned why I had to replace my rack and pinion too when all I needed was one inner tie rod, I was told that it was a package that the manufacturer sent out and the dealership had to replace all of it at the same time. So I called Woods Marathon in Okemos. I now have a new tie rod and the total bill was $252. I saved $1000 by not using the dealerships repair shop. Thank you Okemos Marathon!
Great tow service, will recommend too others.
Ive only ever purchased gas here but I always appreciate them cleaning my windshield.
Came in for a flat tire, staff was friendly, pricing was absolutely fair and reasonable, got my car back the next day.
Woods was fast, friendly, and did a great yesterday providing me with a flatbed tow for my all wheel drive vehicle. Highly recommend.
It was all good and friendly.
I had a flat tire and AAA sent Okemos Marathon to come and help me. The worker was extremely polite and patient with me. We couldnt find a tool that was vehicle specific and he worked around it to ensure we had it taken care of. He also let me know if I came back to the shop they would fix my tire for a low rate. When I got to the shop every single employee I came across was exceptionally helpful and polite. They made a stressful and annoying part of my day a lot better. Im not from around here but if I was this would be my go to gas and service station.
I had my distributor replaced here. It seemed higher than any other place being over $700. Not even 2 years later it went out again. I called them up to see if they would do anything about it and they were really riude to me on the phone and basically told me it was my problem!
Mike the mechanic is one of the rudest people I’ve met in my life, will never come back
Beyond thankful for my expiernece! Will never trust anyone else with my car! So grateful!
Arrived on the scene within 15 minutes, and Jerry was the most helpful and friendly tow operator Ive ever been around.
Very poor customer service! Tried to charge us 10 times what we were quoted the previous evening by the same person. Literally 10 times! For a headlight change! And then he had the gall to tell us he never quoted us that price. Disgusted by the lack of integrity displayed
Very expensive! Not a customer friendly place at all!
Excellent customer service!
My husband Waited over 3 hours for a AAA wrecker. The dispatcher (@ woods) lied to us and to AAA several times. 15 more mins, 15 more mins. When we call AAA to complain we were on hold for 30-45 mins. Not happy at all with the service.
Not only did this place take advantage of me by doing work that didnt need to be done, they literally endangered my life by not tightening the lugnuts on my tire afterward. I know nothing about cars and so after I hit a curb and did some damage to the front passenger side, they told me I needed to have my hub bearings replaced. They replaced them on BOTH sides. Only after getting my parts back and getting a second opinion did I realize that only the passenger side needed to be done. I know theres nothing I can do about it now besides share this with other people in the hopes that they wont get taken advantage of like I did. My fiancé and I went in to confront them about the loose lugnuts and the manager, Josh, admitted this has been a problem there before. At least he owned up to the mistake, but this still does NOT make it ok! Not to mention, both times I came in to pick up my car, they were too busy to actually take the time to talk to me about any of the work that was done in my car at all, and I was just handed some paperwork with a very vague description of what was done. I will NEVER bring my car here again or recommend anyone I know to do so either (unless maybe theyre my worst enemy).
Good service. Pretty friendly stuff.
Worst service ever, the driver was rude.......there was AAA insurance ( covers the cost) and he only wanted to unlock the car and refuse to jump start the truck......during the whole time I did not raise my voice once, but the driver was very rude and he raised his voice the whole time. At one point I asked him if I disrespected him in any way shape or form, he ignore my question and kept on racing his voice....I called wood towing shop in okemos, typical answer from the manager when he gets done with his shift we will talk to him...........as much as they charge for towing and all other services I though they spend some money in customer service classes.....
AMAZING staff!!!! Thank you SO much for being there when I needed a tow truck. Harvey is SO nice and very kind. A++++++!!!!!!!
$44 for chassis inspection. ( Firestone with a coupon takes $15-$20 )Estimate was $500 for replacing 2 ball joints. ( ball joints $200, labor $300 ) - p.s. ball joints not OEM.Im glad I know that OEM ball joints are $20. so its x10 more original OEM price! To replace them its 20min per ball joint. $300 ?! are you sick ?!A guy whos all dirty and oily - not even tried to cover the seats while driving my car. Terrible, terrible, terrible. Avoid this place!
Mike is amazing!
They dont know how to open a door without damaging the car.Very poor job.
Great service
Awfully rude.
Friendly, hometown Okemos service
