I went here to get 2 new tires for my car, which they did and it was done when they said it would be.However, they also said I needed new brakes and that they were all metal on metal. I told them not to fix it and stoped by a parts store on my way home and grabbed what I needed to fix it myself. When I pulled the tire off my brakes and rotors where fine and not even close to needing to be replaced. I dont know if it was incompetence or malicious but I will not be going back. Picture comparing the pad I took off and a new one.

Always been helpful. Terri and the guy working on my car was very honest about putting new tires on and not getting other work done. They informed me if I put the new tires on they would make the tires go bad fast without getting other work done. Other places would of put tires on and not explain what other issues I had. Terri really knew her stuff. Not sure if she the manager but the customer service from check in to check out was five star. Having a honest mechanic and shop is hard to find.

The store wasnt open. Only the service area. I was there on a Saturday and saw many people stop to try and go to the store. Service was slammed, customer service said not enough mechanics. I made an appt online to get 4 tires for 930 am. I was there until after 12pm. I did opt for an alignment also, but it took a long time for the tires. When I got there they recommended I leave the vehicle (they would have driven me home) and get it later. I just decided to wait. I am not sure if it says on maps that the store is closed. They should probably make a note of it, if it doesnt.

The staff are very kind and reasonable. Brought my truck in thinking the starter was out. They didnt have it in stock but were able to get it overnighted from a dealership. Before replacing the starter, the technician noticed a problem with the battery terminal. After replacing the terminal the truck started right up with no issues. Saved me a few hundred dollars.

Their website will let you make an inspection appointment for Saturday but they wont do it on Saturday. Dont worry though, no one will call you and tell you that you will just have to find out on your own.

Made an appointment online so my husband could take my Jeep in since I work every other weekend and my inspection is due. My appointment was confirmed and I sent my husband the info thinking, great, I was able to take something off of my lengthy to do list. Hubs gets there just to be told that they dont take appointments and the tech is on lunch break and they may or may not be able to get him in since it was first come first served. I have an appointment scheduled for Monday,which Ill probably end up cancelling and just go somewhere that wont have any trouble getting me in. I read so many positive reviews about this place, which is one of the major reasons I picked this it. Guess they just got their friends to review them.

First off the only reason why I came to this shop was because of the good reviews but I’m starting to think their done by employees, family and friends. I went to this pep boys location today to have a state inspection done dropped my car off at 1:00 and 3:40 pm my car still hadn’t been looked at and mind you this place close at 5:00pm. So while I was waiting I decided to call the car dealership which I bought the car from and was able to get an appointment at 4:30 pm today and it only took them 30 mins to do my inspection. Wasted all day sitting around at this place for nothing. I would not recommend this place to anyone at all

I got there my first appointment and was sent away noone showed up for work so made appointment for Friday at noon .Showed up at 12 couldnt find my tires. Finally at 1245 they took my car back .At 200 I went around building to see car up and no tires on it .When the guy was done putting on tires he didnt look at work order cause I had to tell him it needed to be aligned. At 300 it was done.The reason I gave 3 cause my car drives perfectly straight down road. Good Job

I usually come to this Pep Boys location but Ill never ever go to any Pep Boys after this experience. I dropped my car over a month ago, and I had to periodically come by to see if they had done any work on my vehicle. After my third visit and third week waiting they finally informed me that the person working on my car never came back. My center console, glove compartment and trunk had been ran through, where there was no work needed to be done. They ended up having to tow my car to the Hampton location. Hampton kept in contact with me and informed me of NEW problems my vehicle has. My oil light was on, my exhaust was leaking and my sunroof is now broken...All in all, I would not recommend going to any Pep Boys and specifically not the Newport News location.

Had to go back multiple times to get vehicle fixed correctly. Will charge you a $50 service warranty without asking. What kind of work do you do if you need a warranty on it? Tried multiple times to go in and get a refund for my $50. Assistant manager says only the manager can do it. Conveniently is never in when you show up.

Unfortunately I have a credit card for pep boys so I am left to deal with them. I came to pick up some parts and stood at the front desk for 8 minutes before I said something to an employee who walked out right in front of me...but still continued conversing with other employees. I asked if someone planned on coming up to help or not and they said “yeah, Pete will be up there.” Pete comes up and helps solve some confusion with an online order I had placed, which contained 2 brake rotors, which are very heavy. Did he offer to carry them out? Of course not. Did he offer to hold the door? Why would he. I’m glad I’m moving out of town soon and will not have to deal with this locations careless employees who show a lack or concern towards their paying customers.

Went for a small issue I’m military and left with conditions so terrible I wouldn’t pass a state inspection not even mentioning the inside of my vehicle was trashed glove compartment ramsacked center console emptied to run a business and your customers feel robbed you have failed.... This review is for service. They are the worst people I have seen. I booked appointment online and went to get alignment done and wheel balance. They said they have short staff so it will take an hour before they work on it. I waited for an hour and half and as a courtesy told them if they can reschedule me since they were struggling big time to keep up. They were happy and appreciated me for rescheduling. They gave me another day and time and offered me more $20 off on that appointment. I went back that day of new rescheduled appointment and they say they do not have my appointment in it. Also they were not so apologetic or they didnt try to squeeze my car in between jobs because again they were short staff. I have heard from other customers that the repair service staff is always complaining and whining, instead of showing some confidence and professionalism and being enthusiastic about their job. They seems to be just there to collect paycheck and because they love their work and what they do.

I dropped my car off at 11:30am the young man at the desk said it would be done by 5pm. Before I gave him my keys I asked if he were absolutely sure I would get my car by 5pm. To this he answered yes. Well, at 5pm I called to see why the link they gave me was saying that my car had not even been looked at. The woman who answered the phone was nasty. Then the status changed on the link. It said my car would be ready by 7:45pm; they close 8. I called at 7:30pm and sat on the phone on hold by the system for near 20 minutes. No one called and said my car was going to be held over night. No one even asked if this was okay. And its not because I have to work tomorrow. If I could give 0 stars I would.

Absolutely wonderful place. We can’t thank them enough. My husband and I (and our infant) were traveling through the area after visiting family and were on our way to the airport to fly home. We hit an object in the road with our rental car. The tire wouldn’t hold air to be able to drive it anywhere. We had the car towed to Pep Boys. They found out the rim was bent where it wouldn’t hold air. Not only did they get us in immediately but they also called our car rental company for us. Our rental car didn’t have a spare tire but it had a decent sized donut tire. They changed it for us and then didn’t even charge us anything. This place was such a blessing to us. Thank you so much to everyone who helped us! If we lived in the area, we’d be lifelong customers.

The service manager, Coleena, took EXCELLENT care of us today! We recently brought in a spare travel trailer tire to be patched and the job wasnt done correctly. Coleena remedied the situation immediately and provided superior customer service! We have lived in the Denbigh area of Newport News for several years abd have been loyal customers of Pep Boys. Went in for a state inspection on a Saturday. I called almost 10 other shops in the area and none of them could fit me in until the following Monday, until I called this Pep Boys who told me that they are taking walk-ins. It was a very easy process and staff was friendly. They were busy but were able to finish up the inspection in about an hour which is pretty good.

The customer service is great but the service department is slacking. I took my civic there to mount and balance 4 tires. Had an appointment at 11 and they weren’t finished with the car till 3. Took em four hours to do an at most 45 minute job. Seriously, step your game up fellas. I’ve seen y’all do better than this.

I had a tire put on about 4 months ago after a week or so I realized there was a bad wobble in the rear. I finally had a chance to make it in today, Vince pulled it right in and they looked at the tire that was replaced, put it on the balance machine to find out it was badly balanced. Bryan was the tech and he apologized for the other tech (no longer there) sincerely to me along with vince . I know things happen and it just so happens it was me it happened to. If it wasnt for there responsibility to own up I wouldnt be leaving a 5 star review. Deon put the tire on and balanced it and was nice as well. i even purchased another tire because they showed me threads were showing on another tire with a good discount for the mishap. all three of these men in my opinion tested to outstanding service. My family has been taking our cars to this location for years. We recommend it to family & friends who are looking for service once their warranties run out or have those emergencies pop up. Their tow service has picked up my broken down car from various locations more times than I can count. That doesn’t mean they do bad repairs— we owned cars that all had over 100,000 miles on them, 2 teenage drivers and one of those cars was a Saab— it was a fact of life. They were fair priced and did quality work for all of our vehicles.

I came into Pep boys today, July 15, 2017 for a spark plug for my lawnmower. They did not have it but I lucked into the most awesome customer service professional. His name tag said his name was Driver. He is an older man with white hair and a mustache. Although they did not have my spark plug, he talked to me about what issues I was having and offered other solutions. His caring attitude and excellent customer service skills made me hopeful. He is amazing and he made my experience so enjoyable I will definitely be back. And if you could would you let him know the starting fluid worked like a charm!!! Lawnmower fired right up and ran better than it had been running for weeks!! THANK YOU SO MUCH MR. DRIVER!!!

Service has gone down. I think this is the last time I will go to pepboys. About a month ago I sent my father there to get his tires balanced and rotated. Not sure if they balanced them or not but the tire position never moved. There are marks that my father made on his rims. The marks stayed in the same locations on the car. I took my vehicle there to have my rear breaks inspected. They quoted me a price for brakes rotors and calipers. I decided to do the work myself. When I went to do the work the same day I picked it up. The tires were still seized on the rotor. Had they removed the tires to check the rotors and calipers they would not have been seized.

Terrible staff in the back and full of attitude. Went and got my Toyota Sequoia inspected a few months ago and the employees in the back got into a argument and when the inspector brought my car back up he slammed the gas put my car in reverse and rocked the car as he shifted back into drive. And my husband just got his 85 Toyota 4Runner inspected and they kept failing his for a safety clutch switch the car wasn’t even manufactured with until 86!!! Safe to say we will never be going there again.

Calling for an appointment was very easy and quick - I got in the next day. I called for an alignment, then was told they couldn’t do it because my passenger side ball joint was bad. They Wanted to do my ball joints but I said no thanks. Got my truck back, looked at it myself and ball joints appeared fine. I have since made a 15 hour drive while moving and the truck had absolutely 0 issues trucking it up mountains and through different terrain. This has now been 3 months ago, I’ve racked up well over 6,500 miles and had 0 balljoint issues. I guess when y’all see a big diesel truck you think big money or that the owner is foolish enough to believe it needs such repairs.

SPENT OVER 400 DOLLARS AND IM PRETTY SURE ALL I NEEDED WAS A NEW BATTERY. I jumped my car after it wouldnt start and went to Pep Boys. They said it the alternator was broken and it would be around $575 for the part and service. I said okay, but immediately called back because I realized they were overcharging me. I asked why they were quoting me around $300 for a part that only cost $189 on their website. They explained those prices differ, so I told them to stop working on my car so I could go somewhere else. They called back ten minutes later and said they could match the online price. I asked if I could call them back as I was pricing other places, and they told me they were already working on it. I hung up and called a manager. We went back and forth. He kept interrupting me to explain why the prices where different. I kept trying to tell him that I wasnt calling about pricing but about why they were working on my car without my consent. Since I told them to stop working on my car. Near the end of the convo, he told me they were basically done with my car (so I didnt really get a choice to refuse service). He decided to offer to take an additional 40 dollars off, and I folded just wanting it to be over with.I take my car home and the next morning it wont start. I called and asked if they checked the battery or just assumed it was the alternator (since the alternator cost a lot more money). They claimed to have checked the battery and I made an appointment to have them look at my car the following morning. I get there for my appointment, and am told that the mechanic who was supposed to look at my car broke his toe and wouldnt be able to. I asked if there was anyone in the entire place who would be able to look at my car, and they said no. I dropped it off and was told it would be look at in the morning.The next morning I called for my status, and they said they would work on it soon. I called again at 11 and they said it was the next one up. Around noon I called, and they still hadnt started. I finally get a call around five. They said the problem was the battery. I dont know how they wouldnt have known that if they checked the battery like they claim. Basically I paid over 400 dollars and didnt have a car for four days when I could have just got a battery at Auto Zone for 80 bucks and put it in myself.

So far my experience here has been less than satisfactory, I was told my car would be done around 5pm but then it was delayed until 8pm and I was told I would get a call at 745pm to discuss the details on my vehicle and I ended up having to call them back myself, only to find out that they needed to hold my car overnight. Not a good experience for me. Just moving here with little time to get vehicle inspection and licence.After a failed attempt at getting my vehicle and approved inspection on a truck that I had bought new and had never had any problems with it. I was told it would cost several hundred dollars to clear up the issues. I declined the offer and drove to the dealership where I was treated fairly and was out the door in less than 15 minutes. No problem at all with inspection.

Really bad experience and I had to share. I went for an inspection on my 2014 jeep Trailhawk. On the paperwork at first it passed then it was crossed out and they failed me for a left bottom control arm. A 400 dollar part and 400 dollars in labor. They pressured me about it but I told them no, my husband will handle this, that was 2 weeks ago. Went to the jeep dealership and they told me there was nothing wrong with my control arm today. Went to pep boys for convenience but was lied to... Horrible experience!!! Please do not go to this pep boys!!! Give your business to people who deserve it.

I dont do reviews but figured I needed to this time. So I got there at 0900 early for a 1000 oil change appointment and asked about state inspection and was told I would lose my appointment time but only 3 people were in front of me and they had 3 inspectors. So it would be quick. I didnt get my jeep in till 1130 for inspection and oil change. I was then told I wouldnt pass due to my KC lights on my jeep and I would either have to have them take it off or come back and wait another time after I take them off. They charged me 30 dollars to unbolt 2 bolts to take the lights off. Inspection passed and i understand the law is law so Im not upset with that but they charged me for almost nothing which was crazy. Then I drive off and smell burning oil. Get home to find oil spilled all over my engine and smoking. Enough to where I had to double check filter and make sure it was even on and oil wasnt pouring out. Pretty sure they didnt replace the filter either because it looks old. Going to take it off and see how it looks in a minute. Basically this place is garbage. I would take your business elsewhere

I was treated very nice by customer service. I had two tire put on plus got a front alignment battery check and it took only 2 hours which is good when you compare it to merchants or firestone which take 6hours or more.the price for the job was reasonable. I think will be using pep boys more in the near future. The one on Warwick Blvd is the one I choose to use.

Great people in main area, however after sitting here and watching the mechanics work on cars, I would never have work done here. Smoking in shop, driving the customers autos like they stole them, one guy thought it would be funny to hit a yellow chain they have across the doors with someone’s black car and then laughed about it. My van has been in for over 45 min for oil change while the guy walks around like it’s social hour. Very unprofessional. If you want quality mechanic better off going somewhere else...
