As surely as you can tell a good Chinese restaurant by the quality of the egg rolls, you can tell a good donut shop by the quality of the long johns! Clearly the attitude is quantity over quality. Sure they are fresh and tasty IF you can find the cream inside. But that is a HUGE if. Back in the day, the long johns were filled from end to end…delicious cream in every bite. Now you’re luck if 1/4 of the donut has a bit of cream filling. I don’t see this place lasting much longer. The primary reason they stay open now is the hours they keep.

Ive been eating Bismarck since I was a kid the taste the same theyre made the same the family here does very well keeping it consistent in very high quality as they taste just like they did when I was a kid

The best apple fritters in the world are made fresh 2x a day, but they go quickly. Open 24 hours a day! Only closed Christmas and Thanksgiving. Nice people running it. Plenty of doughnut varieties for everyone. Good coffee ☕ and conversation if you eat in. Baking times are 4am and 4pm. Its right near the railroad tracks on 30th street...hard to drive by without dropping in. :)

Visited this place on Labor Day since the kids didn’t have school. They were pretty busy and I felt bad that they had to work the holiday. Got a dozen mixed donuts and they were delicious as always. Staff could be a little friendlier but considering the circumstances on this particular day I get it.

When Im in town, I always have to get my grandson his donuts there! So fresh.

My sister and I went there this morning and the girl working the counter was being very rude to the people in front of us. When we got up there to order, she was extremely rude and downright nasty towards us. She kept acting like we were stupid when we would ask a question. They have delicious donuts but we may never be back just because of her and I will be telling everyone about my experience.

We lived in Newark for 2-1/2 years. We recently visited after 5 years and these are still the best donuts.

By far the best donut place around!!! Grew up on Jolly Pirate donuts and now I live near one of the last few locations. Love going to JP in the mornings for a dozen (13) donuts or just sit at the counter and listen to some of the conversations by the regulars. Support local!

What was available was great....Got there on a Sunday afternoon around 1 pm. Was greeted by a cute blonde that acted like she would self destruct if she smiled. There was hardly anything left to choose from. I was only purchasing one dozen. I asked if there were any apple fritters and she replied with a quick hard no. I then asked of they would be putting anymore donuts out and again she replied with a quick hard no. I then asked her if it had been a long day and she said she had been there since 6 am. I made a comment that I guess I should beat the morning church rush to get the good donuts and she just stood there like make your selection and just move on. I was very disappointed in the service. I wanted to add the pumpkin creamed filled donuts to my purchase, that she not so kindly, reminded me that they were not part of the dozen, but I was afraid of upsetting her, and she was getting busy. I overheard the other family say they wanted a dozen...I thought good luck, I just took the good ones.Anyways, what donuts I did get, were very good. Service, not so much. 😕

Usually their doughnuts are pretty fresh and tasty. My last visit though was sort of disappointing though. The doughnuts I got tasted like theyve been sitting for a day and sort of hard.Hopefully next visit is better. If so Ill be updating my review.

Fresh and delicious donuts. I have been coming here since I was a kid. Many great memories with my dad having a donut and chocolate milk at the bar and getting our dozen-13 to take home. Highly recommend this place. There are regular sized donuts and specialty donuts like long johns and cinnamon rolls. Maple cream is a favorite around my house, but they are all spectacular.Have to agree with other reviews, the pro-gun stickers and policy is a plus! Thanks for standing up for our rights... and the donuts are great too :)

Fantastic Doughnuts! It is pretty hard to eat a doughnut while wearing a mask, glad I have the choice to take mine off while eating here. Never once have I ever had bad service. Sometimes they may have been out of the delicious type of doughnut that I came in for, but I get over it quickly since they have a wide variety. Keep up the great work!

Not too many places like this left in the area. The bar - style seating is cozy. You can roll in to grab a quick breakfast or grab a couple dozen donuts for meetings or events. I like the coffee here. Always nice folks in there, both the workers and the folks hanging out eating. My kids love this place.

These are the best donuts I have ever had. The greatest thing about this place is that it is open 24/7. They have the softest, puffy donuts. The variety is astounding. They have cream filled, banana & chocolate pudding filled, apple pie filling filled, bear claws, pumpkin, raspberry filled, cream sticks, doughnuts and cake donuts. Everything looks amazing, and when you open the door, the blast of fresh donut smell makes being patient impossible. We ate six between the two of us on the way home and the rest of the dozen before we could eat dinner. A dozen is never enough, of these delightful donuts.

Not a single employee is wearing masks. I saw a woman complain to the manager and the manager argued with her that they arent wearing masks because the health department doesnt care. Even the owners argued against wearing masks! Apparently this business establishment doesnt care about the health and safety of their community. If I could give ZERO STARS I would. No donut is worth risking my and my familys health.

If you’re looking for a modernized experience and an updated restaurant, it’s not for you... But if you want some delicious, inexpensive donuts with little to no frills, something that’s been the same for as long as I can remember, it’s exactly what you’re looking for. I think Jolly Pirate is great, but I love donuts and pirates. They still put your donuts in little treasure chests, and have an almost overwhelming selection of really good donuts and donut like pastries. They were cheaper then I’d expected, and the woman working was really nice. She was also patient with my friend and I as we acted like a couple of kids in a candy store trying to pick 6 donuts and asked her way too many questions!

Always go in for a donut or 2 and leave with more than planned...always friendly!!!

Ive been enjoying Jolly Pirate for over 20 years. Ive never had a bad experience with them. The staff is fast and friendly, and the donuts are second to none.

OMG! I had an overwhelming moment seeing all the types of donuts. Had to ask for a moment to clear my head before ordering! The staff was very friendly and helpful. I took Donuts home for my boyfriend and his son. I really enjoyed their freshness, taste and sizes were perfect! Jolly Pirate will be my go to Donut shop for sure!🍩💜

You never know what donuts they will have here, but you can bet they will be good. I had a chocolate cake donut and a chocolate peanut butter one and they were both excellent. Theyre open 24 hours a day which is great when you need a donut. You can call ahead in the morning and reserve donuts to pick up later which is great.
