Orginally called One Flight Up, this store will always hold a spot in my heart, been going to them since the late 80s when they were on Broad St... Theyre awesome ppl, if youre new to comics/collection items anime etc youll def find something to spark your intrest... They just had free comic book day and I snagged some treasures...

Ive been going to this comic store for years. Back when they were on Broad Street. From Jose to everyone else, this place has an excellent staff. I take my kids there now as they have an interest in comic books now. Their selection is extensive and well organized. Love the way they display their newly released books.

Shopped at Fortress as a kid, stopped for sometime but started collecting again after college. This place is my second home. Jose, Sam, and Yas treats everyone like family. My go to place for all things geeky/nerdy and even snacks. Always something new and eye-catching here.

Always wanted to go into this place for years and I finally took the time to check it out, it did not disappoint!! If youre a comic fan you have to check this place out. It truly is a fortress of solitude for comic heads. Jose was awesome, very knowledgeable on all variations of comics and the prices were great. Fortress of Solitude is doing everything right, hence having been around since the early 80s!!!!

Your basic run of the mill comic book store. It has all your weekly releases and a few collectibles behind the counter but nothing to crazy. If you’re just stopping by for a new release it the perfect spot but for rare finds you might want to try else where.

Ive been here twice: early 2017 and summer 2018. Also used Google chat to inquire about specific books (much faster than e-mail). Jose is generally friendly and female assistant as well. Ask about the back issues; he picks up collections often it seems. I got DEFENDERS 2 & 10 from original run on my second trip, SILVER SURFER 3 on the first. Fair, non-eBay pricing on the older stuff I bought. Lots of modern, current issues. Fairly neat and organized. Recommended esp if youre from NYC.

Best comic book store Ive ever been to! they open nice and early and the staff and owner are the best. Parking... thats the only downfall. Its near the colleges so it can be hit or miss just make sure you bring change for the meter!

Amazing selection. Great people that work and visit; comfortable, friendly, knowledgable, conversational- the antithesis of the comic elitists found elsewhere. This is a put you on to something new shop, a take your kids, or take yourself, shop. Rated E for everyone. You could get lost for at least an hour in here. Also, metered parking is usually available on the street in front and the meters take all coins except pennies, in addition to parkmobile. Train is a few blocks away-walkable.

In the beginning Jose was polite but after sometime he became very rude and nasty. He does have a decent selection but for business he is a terrible person to do business with he starts to come off as a nice guy but then eventually takes you for granted and becomes rude. Now charges for bags and boards and has been known to take from other customers pull lists to fill others and lie to customers that he sold out of them. Buyer beware.

Wonderful place to get comic books. The owner was a fountain of information. One of the most positive experiences you can hope to have in any kind of establishment to be honest. The selection of books, comics and memorablia is epic and so interesting to strike up conversation about. Theres varied price points. My dad and sister, were with me. We all bought something. We came in with no expectation in particular but left with so much to talk about. They even host movies and events. I am glad to have a haven like this in our community.

This is an awesome shop, wide selection of comics and everyone who works here is fantastic. They will also hold weekly comics for you if you ask them and you are only able to come on occasion but want to keep up on the storyline. If you like comics, definitely check it out!

Old school comic shop. A true comic book store. Thousands of books at reasonable prices. Wall books galore. Trades, back issues, variants, supplies etc. Great atmosphere. Knowledgeable owner. Highest recommendation.

Its a hidden gem thats convenient to get to. Its near Broad St station. If theres a comic that you want but the store does not have, the owner will order it for you and give you a call whenever it arrives in the store. They also have a great selection of trade backs. I always leave spending at least $20.

Interesting spot went in today with no real idea of what to look for ended up leaving with power man/iron fist issue one that I needed for my collection. I will definitely swing by again.

Best Comic Book Store That Ive Ever Been Too

Went about two weeks ago hoping to find some cool books and honestly was sorely disappointed. Tons of nothing worth while books and boxes stuffed so full you couldnt even dig through them. Just about all crammed with almost nothing but dollar bin worthy books and filler stuff. staff was nice but mostly unhelpful. Sorry because I useto like this store but wouldnt recommend now.

I didnt know what to expect when I heard about this place, but when I got there, I was delighted to find a great comic store in a quiet corner of Newark staffed by two great guys! Their spacious store has weekly releases, back issues, action figures, overstock manga and dvds as well. It was a really nice place to shop and I would definitely buy from them again.

I just went in there and the place was clean and had 2 nice guys who knew a lot about books. They have a lot of trades and back issues some nice toys even if they are a bit pricey on the toys. Not a lot of hardcovers but excellent selection of trades. I picked up batman venom the guy actually gave me 10 % off. I highly recommend this place. I will be back to spend more money. Also you can get some pretty sick movies from them.

I use to come browse around after classes when I was attending Essex County College, I remember this place was at a different address because the first time I heard about fortress of solitude was way back in 2006 when I purchased a 12 in figure of the Punisher. Overall I love this place especially the fact that they still sell old school Kung fu movies which is my favorite(Shaw Brothers and Golden Harvest) along with many Books and Goodies Associated with Anime, DC and Marvel Comics
