The place is worth a visit for the smell alone. I needed to add a belt to a wonderful buckle I had and found a whole new world of quality at the Village Tannery. The belt was supple, double-sided, and beautiful and the service matched the quality.

Great shop for vintage looking leather goods

I got a bag for my new baby that is coming soon. I looked at all kinds of brand name bags and they were all overpriced. I saw VTs beautiful backpack and had to have it! I called and was able to speak to TJ and he showed me the bags in store happily on video.I got the tan colored Lou Lou. What a gorgeous bag! I also had them make one for my mom in another design in red. The other man that was there was also very friendly and helpful.The price was a bit high but worth it for something that will last a really long time, hand made by a leathermaker and also beautiful. If you can afford LV and all those expensive bags check them out. They are a great small business and will give you exactly what you need. I stopped into the shop on my decades-long search for the perfect city bag. If you traipse around a city, you know what I mean: you have a list of eight checkboxes; every bag that you purchase gets some smattering of four to five of these checkboxes. The hunt never really ends, and the next bag purchase is one of resignation. Even the designer ones.TJ assisted me at the shop. I asked for Horween leather, and he provided many options. As I sighed, “Oh. No pen loop”, he responded, “We can add that.” The lining was red; I wanted black. “No problem,” TJ replied. I didn’t want a zipper pocket. “Would you like an open one?” On and on. TJ took notes and is revising and making top-notch bags to order.While my style is minimalist, I noted that their patterns have something for everyone. Highly recommend stopping by. My God, its STUNNING !!!! Everything from the quality of leather, the EXPERT craftsmanship, (Artistry, really), all the way down to the buckles & hardware. I have had three leather backpacks made for me at the Village Tannery, all to my personal specifications. Anytime anything went wrong with any of them, the store repaired them for me at no additional charge. I ask a lot of my backpacks and only occasionally has a strap or stitching worn out and been in need of repair. I bought the large backpack (Lulu one pocket, medium) in 2016. It was pricier than most backpacks you find online, but completely worthwhile. It is made of very sturdy cow leather, looks great, and has been my companion for over 3 years. Great for groceries, beverage bottles, travel or the laptop.And should a stitching ever get loose, the Village Tannery team fix it for free. I highly recommend them and their leather products.

I had a LV garment bag made into a pocketbook. I selected the bag that I wanted to duplicate from their own inventory. The finished product looked nothing like what I ask. Theyre bags maybe great, just dont ask them to make something from scratch for you. I was so disappointed that I never used the bag and gave the finished product away.

I got a work/book bag from here December 2016, and it is wonderful. I’m a teacher, I carry a ton of books with me everywhere I go, my students/colleagues/strangers compliment me on how nice it looks regularly. I believe there is a lifetime repair warranty on it, can’t beat that. Could not imagine better customer service, they even offered to alter/customize a bag if needed. 5 stars!

22 years ago I bought my first real leather backpack at Semihs shop on Bleeker Street in NY. Since then I moved, married, had children and continued to wear my leather backpack, which got bruised, dented, but still held up. Yesterday I was delighted to visit their store again and see all the great leather goods they sell at the store, including an updated version of my backpack. Memet, one of the proprietors was very friendly and helpful. Offered to do a bit of custom work on previously made briefcase free of charge. The product is exquisite and warranty cant be beat. Prices are very comparable to other big name quality products that are mass produced, but you wont get the warranty and the personal attention to specific details. Why settle for something that kind of fits what you are looking for, when you can have an actual human make your very own unique item just for you, at the same price point. These owners are thieves and liers! They switched the leather I chose to make the belt and it was made wrong. Tried to fix and made wrong again. 3rd time changed the leather and did not have them make the holes because I did not trust they would not screw it up. For $130 get it right the first time. I could have bought 3 belts at Macys for the same money
