Called here twice, to ask if they sold scalpels before embarking on a 15 min walk. Both times got put on hold by the same woman for about 5 mins.No “please hold” no “let me check” or “let me ask” .... just holding music. I hung up and called the hardware store on Great Jones and was helped wonderfully.Take your money elsewhere, as much as I love supporting small business, customer service is always expected in return, why spend money in places where they’re not making any efforts to help the customer.
These guys are the best. They have helped me countless, countless times. They are happy to answer questions, honest with you about any products, and give great, real advice. As a young girl in NYC, home projects involving hardware can be challenging and these guys have saved me so many time - and with a smile!!!!When the city hit a major heat wave, I was frantically trying to get an air conditioner - everywhere had a long wait time for delivery, expensive delivery fees, and hardly any support with installation. At Ace, the guys were happy to help, they delivered the unit to my house for free (just followed me right to my apartment with a hand truck). They gave me the number to a local guy who does installation for a very reasonable price and he was also able to do same day service.I’d give them more stars if it was possible. They’re the best.
Really great local hardware store. Helpful people. Decent prices.
Been coming for a couple years now and they guys seemingly have everything you could ever need for your home. From a drywall screw to a Brita filter - they got it. Very helpful employees.
If I could give this place more than five stars, I would. They are the best. They are one of the few places in the East Village, where they greet you, by name, and are genuinely happy to see you.I owned a painting company, and this was the only hardware store I used, for paint and other supplies. They are super helpful, and knowledgable, so if you have a question, just ask them. They will help you, I promise. They are a Benjamin Moore retailer, and in 3 years I purchased roughly 1,500 gallons of paint from them - ALL PERFECTLY TINTED. (Which is a big deal - trust me.)They can color match anything. Want proof? A few weeks ago, I asked them to match a piece of plaster from my ceiling that was less than 2x1 and falling apart..Less than ten minutes later, I had two buckets of paint, perfectly matched to my ceiling color, and they named the paint color after me. Jealous? If you are, you should go buy a gallon of custom color paint too.Honestly I love this place, and think it’s great they are still family owned and still in the same location. ❤️
Big cities often get a bad rap for their lack of all of those qualities that make us human. They are too busy, too impersonal, and the people who live and run businesses in them can frequently seem to the traveling outsider to be too rude to care. The staff at Brickmans Ace Hardware on First Avenue in the East Village not only exist outside this stereotype, they shatter it. My husband and I recently visited our youngest daughter in NYC to help her move and prepare the apartments second bedroom for a roommate. Our trip coincided with a heat wave, which underscored the desperate need for an AC window unit for the NYC apartment. This store carried quality, energy efficient units; and, when I asked whether the store could recommend a handyman who could help install it, the manager had my daughter on the phone with a dependable, stellar East Village handyman (Edwin D. Rios) before we could complete the purchase. Another Ace employee rolled the AC unit on a dolly to our daughters apartment where he carried the unit up five flights of stairs. Within two hours, the unit was installed, and we left knowing that our daughter had a first-rate hardware store and handyman as neighbors.
This place is way overpriced. Taking advantage of being in the city and overcharging customers. I can easily order things on amazon. Some of the staff are not friendly or helpful.
Mixed feelings. Theyre helpful enough if asked, and give you room to look around, but the price youll get charged at the register likely wont match their website or the shelf tag, which is a deal breaker in my book.I tried to buy 2 things, one was 20 dollars (50%) more than the website, the other was $10 (100%) more than the shelf tag, and no one seemed concerned they were advertising the wrong prices. Theres a reason Amazon is winning! Perhaps another hardware store in the area will be better...?
In a world of big box paint and hardware stores H Brickman and Sons stands out. From knowledgeable and friendly staff the store gives you that local mom and pop feeling. Reasonable pricing and superior customer service, especially from Rodney make this store a true gem in the cold, bland world of super retailers.
Staff is eager to help. Helped me find what I needed. In and out in under five minutes.
Come here to buy some painting equipment and struggled to get someone to help me. I heard an employee asking someone in the aisle next to me if they needed help and that customer declined. So I was going to ask for help when the employee reached my aisle. Disappointingly, when I saw him at my aisle and asked if he works here, he looked me straight in the eye and walked away. Not a good feeling and can’t help but it wonder if it was cause I’m Asian. After all, it’s not the first time I’ve face these micro-aggressions. My boyfriend tried to get someone to help us but couldn’t find anyone. We ended up figuring it out ourselves. Convienent location but experience left a bad taste in my mouth. The only nice person to us in the store was the cashier so shoutout to her.
Very good helpful assistant associate picks up the products for you awhile I was waiting. impressive
Wonderful service and great employees plus they go out of there way to help you
This hardware shop is always super helpful and accommodating. when they don’t have something in stock, they recommend a place that does which is a rare level of customer service. appreciate it!
Great full service local hardware store & good key cutter. Very helpful staff, decent selection.
So helpful and so nice, everyone who worked there. I was clueless as to what I needed for a project and they pointed out everything I needed!
Friendly and helpful
Good local hardware store. Good selection and just about everything hardware and home wares wise.
Its ok for a family business but its a little pricey. The workers are friendly.
Great local hardware store w plenty of everything!Great staff & customer service always helpful.
They have everything one might need for projects large and small and most importantly for me they have great service. There is always someone available to ask for advice and to answer questions and everyone who works there is really nice and helpful. Very cool independent store. And they will let you bring your bicycle in!
This neighborhood hardware store has everything you can ever need.bright and clean with everything in its place. Easy to find what you need with no problem. With very helpful staff you can get what you need in minutes. They are always willing to assist and get you on your way.
Kind, helpful, awesome people - I always come here for all my home & hardware needs. Shop local!
For almost 50 years this has been my go-to hardware store not only for purchases, but for advice. Always welcoming, almost always helpful!
Somehow my review was removed. Regardless I recommend you do your own research before going to this store. Some of the workers do not know what they are doing. I came home with the wrong paint and keys that didnt work.
Bought a ballast for my flourecent light and was sold one that turned out to be older than me. Ballast was correct but the cover didnt fit because the old ones were so huge. They dont even make that kind anymore.
Very good service.
Super Helpful. Came in at 7:56pm and despite them almost closing they were all extremely nice and helpful in finding the tools I needed. They even wanted to strike some nice small talk.
I feel like family when I walk in here, and I can always get as much help as I need for my personal home projects, no matter how strange they might be. Even though the prices may be higher than I like, for me its worth the convenience and to keep these guys in business. Lots of respect for these people, especially since they offer my non-profit charity a tax-free discount.
Fast and Great customer service
A staple of the community. Consistently a great establishment. Please, dont leave?
I ordered a few things via phone to be delivered to fire island during a few months period. Never checked prices until now. Each item is priced much higher than the online price states. They claim the delivery is free but is it really? Each bill is anywhere from $8-$25 higher than it should be. Obviously not a mistake on their part since it has happened on every bill. So watch out for their pricing because it is cheaper to buy it elsewhere.
Im sorry to read that someone had an experience here with a sales person that was unpleasant. I believe, having gone to this store for some many years, (even though there is a store closer to me), that if they had had the opportunity to address this problem with the customer he would have had his problem resolved to his satisfaction. They are REALLY a business that is here to help people with their needs, and have always been respectful and helpful with every problem I have brought to them. They have served both me personally, and the building I live in, (that has an account with them actually) in the best possible way. Always hones, always courteous.
Friendly, helpful, and prompt service from all staff I encountered when I stopped here on Friday evening. If you have broad shoulders, be careful not to stab your left shoulder on a shelf as you walk in, because every walkway is narrow in Manhattan.
Love this place. So densely full of what you need. And some old crusty guy that knows where it all is. I’m always so pleased and relieved to find a hardware store like this when I find myself in a new town.
This is a useful alternative or complement to Saifee Hardware nearby H Brickman. H Brickman is an Ace Hardware store that is more commercial (like a mini Home Depot) and Saifee has more custom goods and plenty of plants and plant supplies.
Convenient neighborhood hardware store. Great selection given the size of the store. A good place to get quick supplies if you dont want to wait for Amazon or go all the way to Home Depot.
Very convenient to have them around the area. Nice staff.
Friendly helpful neighborhood hardware store
Huge selection of materials and items to complete any job along with great prices and great employees
Convenient neighborhood hardware store with a lot of selection in a small space. The service is typically very helpful and friendly, but there is one staffer that is apathetic at best. Things may be a little bit more than at Home Depot. but its close by and easy.
Friendly people. Good quality products. A proper east village family owned vibe mixed with a lifetime of experience and expertise avaipable upon request. Please enquire within.
The best hardware store describes it most accurately
My son forgot his wallet containing IDs, Credit cards & $45 by the register. They promptly contacted us to have it returned, I think that is what makes this hardware store different from someplace like home depot. Brickmans has been in the neighborhood for as long as I could remember and I have always been able to rely on them for all my hardware needs.
As a long time and frequent customer I am appalled by the unprofessional manner of this store. I purchased a ladder and do not feel safe bc of the flexibility of it and came to return the item in perfect condition. Ace hardwares return policy online states you have 30 days to return it, however be weary bc apparently there are certain stores individually owned that get to make up their own policies! Best part is their return policy Is not even printed on their receipt! What a joke! They would not take it back even In perfect condition with packaging and receipt within the allotted time stated on the website! Not to mention the staff was atrocious in handling customer service! Will be taking my business back to Home Depot.
Good source for hardware....large selection...helpful personnel ...pricey.
J.R, Murray, the best of Brickman! These 2 guys are the best over there!
Courteous and knowledgeable staff. Prices are also reasonable
I came here for a specific size tool, i called before i came to check if they had it and they did. The guy behind the counter helped me find it and i was in and out in about a minute.
Neighborhood hardware store with same employees for 20-30 years. Very friendly and good at answering questions and helping to find things
This is the best hardware store in the area. They have just about everything and the staff is super helpful and friendly.
Really helpful staff, nice wide selection of items and nicely displayed. Will special order if you need it.
Nice and knowledgeable staff. They copy keys here too. Its kind of expensive. Still, a variety of home related things in a convient location. Hope this helps!
They sell Great paint prices are a little high but youre getting a good deal
Too expensive...it pays to go to home depot
Convenient place
Good and honest people
Exactly what a neighborhood hardware store should be, and fair prices
Guy who helping inside is awesome and very patient. however, cashier girl is horribly but horribly rude, when rushing u to pay and get out although theres no people behind u. also talk about other clients and say to other employees what stupid questions they ask. will not go there again.
The neighborhood place to go.
Great selection of hardware and general house supplies. I go here all the time for random tools, to get keys made, etc. The staff is always friendly and helpful!
Nice
Has all you need and more, but somehow it always feels less of a cheap friendly and local shop. Still i love that theyre open till 8
The clerk had wonderful customer service skills. She was very helpful with what i needed to purchase..
Got whatcha need helpful folks
Pretty good selection of items, knowledgeable and friendly folks
Extremely helpful staff and great atmosphere
Friendly knowledgeable staff always helpful.
Bought a scewdriver for 2 bucks, this place is great.
I was locked out of my apartment and the supers phone number wasnt posted. I found all the tools I needed, to climb up the fire escape and break in to my home.
Very helpful staff.
Very friendly and helpful & thank god open till 7 on Sunday!
The best hardware store in the neighborhood--helpful staff, customer-friendly, fully stocked and reasonably priced.
Everything is way over priced. Two to three times more expensive than any other store.
Being somewhat of a DIY junkie, Ive been here many times for many reasons. They always have what I need and help me as soon as I walk in the door.
Helpful knowledgable staff. Father and son owned.
Great view of the Hudson River
Convenient local hardware Store for the essentials also has key copying
This is a convenient hardware store a little overpriced but its good friendly staff.
Great hardware and supply store
Very helpful and friendly!
Great store
