She absolutely transformed my short, fine hair (which had been very damaged by tape-in extensions elsewhere) into long, flowing, gorgeous hair. The keratin extensions match my hair perfectly -- and even better, with strands of highlights and lowlights that add depth and shine. The hair is soft, shiny and doesnt tangle at all. She spent hours placing each piece and explained how to style and take care of it. Best makeover experience of my life.Firstly when I came in, I was nervous because I never had hair extensions and thought theyd be expensive and hard to manage. Ruthie complimented me on my real hair, told me that I looked great naturally and that I probably didnt really need them but if I thought it would give me more self confidence, shed try and work with the price and put them in for me. The stylist - an awesome woman who used to work on Sex and the City and other sets, and it shows - is absolutely wonderful: talented, extremely exact about her standards, and so, so professional at what she does. Unlike just about every other salon, she specializes in extensions. I already had a very promising impression when she took her time patiently her methodologies and philosophies re: extensions to me in our first consult, even carefully picking out and blending colors to create something to match my highlights rather than just going for a box off-the-shelf, but I was still wary after being burnt my first time ever getting extensions (hence my anxious presence in her room, a victim of a Rather Bad Hair Month). Then she spent over SIX hours non-stop with me and my mess of a hair to not just salvage it but make it absolutely perfect, with what was far more devotion than Ive ever seen anyone treat my hair in my life. I practically floated out the door on a cloud!(The backstory to this, btw, is that my hair is one of the longstanding villains in my life - long, short, highlighted, whatever, such is its stiffness that it always end up in its natural state of a half-mushroom, half-mane with the consistency of a mules tail in the end. In a fit of desperation after a particularly hatchet-y pixie cut I zipped into the first brightly-lit salon I saw in Hong Kong when I visited the first time, thinking that surely, SURELY an Asian salon would be able to handle Asian hair??Oh how wrong I was. I was left with a net of shiny tubes that were so hard and heavy I could barely sleep at night. The fake hair was simultaneously fizzy and oily, and had the unamusing quality of falling out in twos and threes every morning. When about a quarter had somehow divested themselves a month later, in a fit of desperation I started googling hair extensions nyc. My hopes werent very high - faced with the nightmarish prospect of a a miserable three strands of stringy hair left clinging around like Mr. Filch from Harry Potter, I just wanted to look normal again.)Well, forget normal - my new hair is so soft, bouncy, and silky that Ive been running my fingers through it (and sort of, well, nuzzling it) several times a day. Its twice as full, twice as light (she uses fusion rather than hardware), and falls down my back naturally. It never tangles, it takes barely 5 minutes in the morning. After a lifetime of people telling me I should just leave it short... I can finally wear long hair for the first time!The other thing is, ladies, if this sounds like SO Awesome But Also Biggest Splurge ever, a Wait-For-The-Wedding kinda deal especially with her Sex and the City resume - shes shockingly affordable for NYC. She can definitely do wedding shoot for you if thats the occasion, but shes also awesome value for a regular gig. I consulted several places before her to do some research after getting burned in Hong Kong, and she is somehow both the most adept and the least bankruptcy-inducing. Sometimes its just luck!
