Great bagel sandwich! My husband and I both tried the pastrami style smoked salmon on our bagels - so good! The bagels are a bit harder than you might find elsewhere but I thought the texture worked perfectly to maintain the sandwich structure. They accept card but have a $10 minimum for it (you’ll hit it).

I dont get the hype. Good bagels and lox but I fail to see why this place has such long lines all the time. Tip- arrive at the opening hour to avoid the queue. As of October 2021 they only let in around 10 people inside at once.

Went around noon on a Monday, line wasn’t bad with about five people in front of me. They only allow five people in the store at once which was actually a nice change of pace from the last time I came years ago and was elbow to elbow with people jam packed inside. Now I was able to browse all of the different counters and see all the options. Ordered pastrami lox on a pumpernickel bagel and a side of whitefish salad. Pastrami lox was so unique and buttery soft, great flavor and went very well with the light pumpernickel flavor of the bagel. The whitefish was tasty and smoky, would have gone well on a bagel to help cut the salt. Pass on the back and white cookie though, it was small and dry.

New York might have bagel shops at every corner of the street, but there’s no other place like Russ & Daughters in the LES. Even walking by at 8:30 in the morning, expect to see a small line of people waiting outside to order bagels, smoked fish, and other goodies that lie within the store. There’s a reason why they are a long-standing classic in the city!I tried numerous bagels during my trip to NYC, but there was no place that had fresher lox and cream cheese than R&D. The lox wasn’t salty nor had any weird texture that some joints may carry, and the cream cheese was very smooth and had a beautiful tanginess to it. It was a pretty expensive sandwich (around $14), but I will most definitely recommend this place to visitors and will be a returning customer.

Came here on a stopover in NYC to this Must go to place sadly Im disappointed. I asked for everything in my classic bagel to get to the hotel to find only the salmon and cream cheese ( no capers, onions etc). I also ordered the chopped liver and pickle bagel only to find only chopped liver ( which is tasty for sure) both bagels didnt taste fresh and were quite chewy.Sadly didnt live up to the hype..

I went for the first time today and wow I love this place. They currently have max 5 customers indoors at a time, so I had to wait for 1 to leave before I entered. Then I had:Classic bagel -- tasted about the same as at the other popular bagel spots. For $14, its $1 costlier than the last 2 I had, thats the only part I can criticize.Potato lake -- Much thicker than typical lakes. This was the 23rd establishments latke Ive tried in NYC, and maybe my 3rd favorite among them.Chocolate babka -- Liked it cold, and loved it after I warmed it up. I had to restrain myself from eating the whole thing in one sitting.Mixed dried fruit - I got 0.33 pounds, it included apricot, apple, pear, plum, prune. Seemed like ordinary dried fruit, but I loved being able to have that variety in small quantity.Im excited to return and try some other items.

My wife and I visited Russ & Daughters in July of 2019. We enjoyed it so much and wanted to go back. I was thrilled to see that they offer shipping packages. We ordered the NY Brunch to be delivered here in VA for my wife’s birthday and even though the bagels were baked Wednesday, shipped out on Thursday, delivered Friday, and eaten on Saturday, they were still fantastic. And nothing beats the paper thin lox. Sliced so thin it only has 1 side!!

This review has to almost be itemized. The fish is superb and should be an example to other spots as a bar for quality. They have lots of things in the store which is also good. BUT, the bagels, they fall flat. They have okay flavor but the consistency is off. They are breaddy while too dense. The staff acted as if we were inconveniencing them by shopping there; not just with my party but with others. The babka was opposite that of the bagel; the consistency was great but the flavor fell short. I wanted to like this place but did not.

Seems like their seafood is fresh, but nothing special - not worth $20 for one bagel. There is usually a long line to get into the store. The staff there is quite nice, however I am not quite sure if I’d pay that price for bagel every time. I came here after seeing so many people review and rave about this bagel place. But I’d have to agree with many of the reviewers that this is a need to at least try once experience. The bagel is soft and nice and warm off of the oven, they have so many different flavorful cream cheese flavors along with salmon selections that will make you think of bagel again if your weren’t already a fan. There is a expected line outside though, especially now with COVID because they only really allow 5 people/party in at a time. They all recommended the everything bagel with the classic and Scottish salmon! My entire family is from Jersey and I always heard the stories from my parents growing about the amazing bagels in NYC. My husband and I were in SW CT and came in to Manhattan to get some authentic NYC food before heading home on our business trip. I found Russ and Daughters through a few food review sites and I Googled them. They had a great customer review so we headed there first. Because of city parking being what it is, my husband planned to drop me. We pulled up and there were a good 15 people in line, but I figured that was a good sign of quality. We definitely should have known better and called ahead. 40 minutes later it was my turn to go in. With Covid protocols, only 3 people can go in at a time. The shop looks authentic and the food was nicely displayed. The staff were nice. I got a half pound of mixed dried fruit, an everything bagel with a plain cream cheese for myself and 6 bagels to go for my parents with a side of lox cream cheese. My bagel was good and the cream cheese was very generous, but it was not as good as I imagined. I found it a little too salty and I love salt and it was disappointingly small. I have always heard about the amazing chewiness of Ny bagels and it wasn’t as chewy as I hoped. I enjoyed what I got, but it definitely wasn’t worth the wait in the cold.

Once you get your food, find a nearby bench to enjoy it on.We got an everything bagel with goat cream cheese, loin cut salmon, onion, and tomato. It was amazing. They are very generous with the amount of salmon they give you. The goat cream cheese was the perfect pairing with the salmon. They have a ton of different salmon options, probably at least 10. I was initially hesitant to spend over $15 for a fancy bagel, but after seeing the restaurant on Somebody Feed Phil and at my wifes insistence we visited the counter service location. Man am I glad we visited. Their bagel sandwiches are spectacular and worth every penny. Theyre also huge meals that kept me full for over 6 hours. Yes we had to wait in line but it was well worth it and the folks running the counter were very patient with our tourist hemming and hawing. The ordering process is slightly complicated as you will need to bagel sandwich type, then your bagel, your cream cheese type, and your toppings. I will definitely be back when Im next in New York and Im excited to try the table service version! This is one of the best counter service restaurants in New York City and very deserving of a spot on my 4.7+>100 list.

I cant give this place enough stars. We waited in line out front for about 45 minutes. They only allow five people in the store at a time. Incredible selection of salted fish, bagels, cream cheese, and some other traditional Jewish foods. I got the scallion cream cheese and lox on a bagel. Best lox Ive ever had. Boyfriend got The Generational with lox and sturgeon. The lox were incredible and the sturgeon was incredible but the flavor of the lox cancels out the sturgeon so I would not recommend getting those together. They do take away boxes with dry ice if you have a large order youd like to take home. Its a little pricey, about 18 for each sandwich but worth it. They really put thought and care into each encounter.

Thats like asking for a cheeseburger and getting two buns and then being told I should have asked to include the paddy.Strangely, she remembered my exact order including the type of cream cheese, the toppings, and the type of bagel when I came in 15 minutes later, so it wasnt that she heard me wrong. But not only was the salmon missing, but it was on the wrong flavor of bagel and had the wrong toppings. They slapped the salmon straight on to my partially-eaten bagel and then asked me to pony up more for the salmon. They didnt bother fixing the mixed-up toppings or putting it on a bialy like Id originally asked. They were rolling their eyes at me the whole time as if it was my fault?
