Friendly staff unlike coffee shop nearby. Love the appearance of the place. Food was delicious and so was the coffee. We plan on staying at the hotel our next visit
I did a lot of good eatin’ during my week in New Orleans, but I must say that breakfast at Silver Whistle Cafe was a standout meal! The atmosphere was delightful - historic charm with just enough modern taste. The coffee was some of the best I had in NOLA. Even seemingly simple dishes had a remarkable quality; for instance, the breakfast parfait was perfection. I usually don’t order this sort of dish in a restaurant since it’s easy to assemble at home, and prepared versions are usually too sweet. But this was better than any parfait I’ve ever made! The granola tasted homey and intensely nutty, and was layered with thick unsweetened yogurt and fresh fruit. The balance between crunchy/creamy and tangy/sweet was ideal. The egg white frittata didn’t sound especially exciting on paper, but it was amazingly flavorful while still being light. And again, the textural counterpoint offered by fresh greens and radishes made things interesting & balanced. The service was speedy and friendly, too. Overall, it was an easy-going and lip-smacking start to the day!
A historic wonder brought back to life and worth it just for the gorgeous interior (also check out the bar across the hotel lobby as its hand painted bayou murals are fabulous too). The grits are stone ground and substantial. A true historic recipe that makes them absolutely delicious without adding cheese or anything else. I loved them. Also the hash browns are cooked in duck fat and delicious. Dont write them off.I had the pimento cheese omelette because weight gain be damned, I want a decadent culinary adventure, and I was in no way disappointed.
The food here was amazing. We got here about 8:45 a.m. on a Monday morning and it was packed. We waited about 5 minutes to be sat at the big round communal table. Service was quick and the staff was friendly. I had the sausage and cheese biscuit with cheddar and tomato jam (pictured). It was divine. The crispy garlic potatoes it comes with were also delicious. My husband got an almond croissant (soft and warm) and scrambled eggs and he had no complaints.
Reading reviews I thought I would be highly impressed but I wasnt. Currently the menu is very small, maybe because of Covid. It wasnt bad but it wasnt outstanding. Coffee was just ok. Breakfast was was just ok. Just know right now there are like only four options on the menu.
My top place for quality cafe food. Dont worry if its busy, it is worth the wait. Next time Ill be back with my relatives. The bill was reasonable.
Expensive classic breakfast but tasted good so all is well.
This place can get busy so be prepared to share the large table with other diners if you arrive when its crowded! The coffee was decent. The food was mixed. Everything was edible and arrived quickly, but the biscuit wasnt as moist and crumbly as Id expect, it tasted like itd been baked the previous day and toasted after I ordered it. They served a bruleed grapefruit half which was a great idea and tasted good but was impossible to eat because they didnt provide a grapefruit spoon or other utensils that wouldve made extracting the grapefruit easy. The service was excellent. The waiters were very attentive.
Located off the lobby of the Pontchartrain Hotel, the Silver Whistle Café is convenient to the Wyndham Avenue Plaza Resort and Josephine stop on the St Charles trolley line. Start with some excellent coffee while you contemplate what you want for breakfast. The menu is simple, yet varied enough that you could enjoy something different several days. The Blue Crab Pimento Cheese omelet I had was outstanding, but the delicious bowl of creamy stone ground grits stole the show! Service was great and the prices were also very reasonable. Cant wait to return on our next trip to NOLA.
Service and food are excellent. Establishment is very clean and space is well designed. Prices are not based in reality. $14 for a small bowl of salad. Clearly here for well to do guests of attached upscale hotel. Dont bother if you plan on walking in off the street.
One of the top breakfast spots in town. I personally like this place because of its food and the portion that they provide. Not a big cafe, there are few seats and a community table bit the place is so sweet. You would definitely enjoy your time here.
Oatmeal was fantastic! The grapefruit brulee was amazing. Also, amazing photo op in the sitting area next door next to the bathrooms.
Love this spot. Excellent food and this morning, excellent company too. Sat at the community table and had great conversations. The service is always expedient, food delicious. One of the best cups of coffee.
I wasnt expecting the food to be as good as it was. We had eggs, sausage, potatoes and toast. It was all good. The staff was great too.
The hash browns were perfectly balanced with scallions and are super crispy and wonderful. What a lovely lunch! My fiancee also thought the bacon was cooked to perfection. Not too limp and not too crispy.
Overpriced for what it was. Food was decent though.
Quaint little place to catch a bite during the day. Very quick service, very friendly staff. Reasonable prices.
Absolutely wonderful experience here! Great food in a really compfy setting that allowed me and my family to sit back and really enjoy a lovely breakfast.
This was one of our best meals. We came for Sunday dinner in late September and were the only diners in the establishment. We both got the fish (one special, one almondine) and both dishes were to die for. Service was really great as well.
Cute little cafe in Pontchartrain hotel on St. Charles. Great coffee and waffles. More substantial breakfast options are available. Service is friendly and fast.
One of the best places to have a tasty breakfast and specialty coffee. Friendly atmosphere.
Delicious food! Great macchiato, decent price.
Stopped in for lunch when I first arrived in New Orleans. Very nice service, atmosphere was a bit quieter than I expected, coffee was excellent and the ham/cheddar biscuit was delicious! I would definitely return!
Great NOLA breakfast. The hash browns and grits are some of the best Ive had. But as mentioned, the prices are reflective of being connected to an upscale hotel. 5 stars for food/service, 3 stars for value
Great food at moderate prices, friendly personell and non dairy milk options (oatmilk!) was available. One thing that joyed me most was the kids weren’t handed disposables right away! This place has class! We were so pleased with their breakfast. We had waffles and eggs benedict. The benedicts were served with a homemade hollandaise on the perfectly runny poached eggs along well balanced seasoned breakfast potatoes and a freshly baked buttermilk biscuit.
I was disappointed to miss the breakfast menu, but settled for the grilled cheese and it was excellent. Delicious cheese with shimeji mushrooms with some garlic marinera sauce for dipping. On the smaller side, but one of the best grilled cheeses I’ve ever had. Coffee was good too. Staff was very friendly as well.
Fantastic. Super cute small casual breakfast diner. Breakfast po boy was delicious. Friendly service, quick wait time and affordable.
Great breakfast, prompt service. Had pecan waffle, and their classic breakfast; both were great.
Wonderful breakfast and cocktails. The service is always on point and the staff is friendly.
Service was slow, the eggs Benedict yokes were hard boiled with stiff, flavorless hollandise sauce on a dry biscuit, we expected more. Very disappointing AND expensive on our last day in town. Try the quiche down the street at Avenue Cafe, you wont be disappointed!
Went there every morning on our short trip to NO, fell in love with their American breakfasts
The staff was awful and so was the food unless you are related to one of the staff you will get horrible service
I don’t usually leave reviews. But I came for breakfast and had the best breakfast of life. Thank you.
Egg white frittata was awesome. Quiet cafe in the Garden District.
Great service, delectable pastries and a spot on Cortado started my Monday off with a smile!
The portions were large, and the food was okay. The ceiling was beautiful. The service was mediocre at best. We would not eat here again.
Great breakfast along the Garden District line.Loved the benedict!
We were walking along St. Charles Avenue looking for breakfast. We decided to give Silver Whistle Cafe a try. The food was delicious but we waited 25 minutes for foods.
Super friendly service with good coffee in a great location. The baked treats are also diverse and delicious. Check them out!
Nice staff. Wish the menu had more options.
Wonderful little breakfast place we ran across while going somewhere else. Great eggs benedict, great breakfast po-boy and excellent coffee. The maple Danish was awesome. Top Notch service too.
Food is good, wait staff is good, all around Pleasant experience
Lovely, friendly staff, super convenient to our hotel, great coffee, delicious sparkly brownie.
The Silver Whistle Cafe is a great place to pick up a coffee and pastry before taking a walking tour of NOLAs Garden District. Selection is limited and service is brusque but everything available is quality and delicious.
Brilliant staff, great food
Everything came out cold lol 🤷. But my server was very nice. Very small menu...
We are here on Thanksgiving Day.Small cafe with community table and couple seats.Portions are large as in the carbs...bread, potatoes.etcMy bf got eggs, hashbrown, bacon and side of toast. I just got eggs and bacon. The hasbrowns are more like potatoes being overcooked to give them a crunch. We got 4 pieces of large thick bacon each.Eggs were delicious.Overall good cost $25.Which I personallly think is high.
The coffee here is amazing, the staff is friendly and attentive, and the way they cook the eggs is perfect. I definitely recommend the NOLA breakfast with a cup of coffee!
Small cozy cafe. Great pecan waffles.
Just had a coffee but it hit the spot. Great location and friendly staff.
Best eggs benedict Ive had. Should be listed as $$, though - brunch entrees are up to $16.
The food was excellent and the staff very attentive.
Lovely food, fantastic breakfast parfait
Excellent service and food
Good breakfast cafe...good coffee and good food. Try the blueberry muffin.
Very casual breakfast, brunchl place in Garden district
Too expensive. 2 cups of reg coffee and 2 danish... $15..only for special occasions..not my daily spot.
Nice breakfast. NOLA breakfast is fine
Great breakfast spot.... very friendly staff!

The Silver Whistle is the bar of the Hotel Pontarchtrain, but it can be accessed without being a guest directly from the sidewalk or inside the hotel. The place is beautifully decorated, like an old diner, but with very good taste. The attention from the staff was impeccable and they prepared delicious and very good quality dishes. It is located on Saint Charles Avenue, in the Garden District of NOLA and is ideal for a lunch break or for breakfast.
