Awesome experience. Pretty straight forward purchase. The guy was very friendly, helpful, and informative. I will highly recommend this bike shop if you are in a market for a bicycle.
Really quick and professional job! Bob helped out a lot! Highly recommended
What a bike shop should look like. Small space, couple bikes being worked on bike stands right inside the entrance. And they had what I was looking for that was on back order everywhere online!
I went to this shop for a inner tube 20 x 4.0 fat tire bike. The box did have the same numbers but it was not for a fat tire bike, what do I know. I put it on but the tire never inflated, so I guessed it damaged the inner tube as I put to much air. So I took it back telling them it was the wrong one. Then the owner put air in the tube and accused me of trying to scam him and talking real loud that im trying to get over on him....Very very unprofessional I was so mad I didnt even take the inner tube back since I paid 20 bucks for it. If I pay you for a part it should be the right one. but where do you get off talking to me in that manner.
Bob the owner is an awesome guy!! He put a bike on hold for me without knowing for sure if I would buy it. We didnt end up buying it but bought something else and he was completely fine with it. He was honest and not pushy, super knowledgeable and best of all very friendly.. Which seems to be a lost art in business these days! He has tons of inventory in everything you could need. I will not buy a bike from any other place after doing business with Bob and I live far away.. It will be worth making the trip!
Nice shop to service your bike. Good selection of used items.
This is my local go-to. I’ve had a few tune ups here on my cx and road bikes and they came back crystal clean and riding like new. Excellent wheel tune. Best brake bleed in town for hydro discs. Relaxed and down to earth, helpful personalities. And a sweet dog!
Its a nice wholesome bike shop you
I have shopped at most of the other bicycle stores in New Haven and have been a loyal customer of College Street Cycles for over a year and a hal now. I go to this store for everything possible. They do all my tuneups and I purchase all my accessories here. I use my bicycle as my primary source of transportation and this store serves all my needs. The staff here is friendly and helpful. When I called over the phone with questions, the gentleman who answered actually remembered me. This business is everything that is good in the world today. Solid craftsmanship, good communication, great prices, reliable service, and excellent selection. I will continue to be shop at this store for as long as I am in the area.I love giving these guys my money!
Just a great, quality bike shop - nice friendly people, and they did a great job fixing a very annoying shifting issue I couldn’t solve myself (and a very fair price considering the pretty terrible internal cable routing they had to deal with). I will be coming back!
Best experience at a bike shop. Fast, professional, and very reasonably-priced repair. Will definitely return.
Knowldgeable. Great customer service.
These guys are fantastic! I’m barely a cyclist and brought mine and my partners bike for a good tune up. They were so professional yet down to earth. We’ll definitely use them again when the time is needed.
Honest and really knowledgeable people. The prices for everything Ive done so far are very reasonable (not something Ive seen all the time with bike shops).
Friendly, helpful service, honest and caring staff. I called looking for part for my kids bicycle. Spent about ten minutes over the phone, getting a lesson in pedals and bike axles, turns out I only needed a simple clip from a hardware store. They didnt try to sell me anything, just courteous and caring and genuinely helpful. Ill gladly buy my next bike from there.
I am ALWAYS a fan of College Street Cycles 🛴 so understated! Excellent.
Good quick repair for a reasonable price
Amazing! Got my issue fixed fast and for a very reasonable price. Went because a friend recommended. Gonna bring my wifes bike for a tune up. Definitely worth to check it out.
Recently moved in to the US. I bought my bike here after reading excellent reviews about this store. Owner Bob helped me through the process even though he was busy with other customers. I have 0 experience with buying bikes or biking at all but i am satisfied with my purchase. Giant Cypress. Ive been riding it to and from work daily. Great shop!
Helped fit me to a bike and even bought my old one from me! Really friendly too.
My husband went to get a new hub in his back wheel. they offer him to fix it at 70 plus 10 if he wanted on black. My husband did not know that black means protection against oxidation, and they did not tell him so he prefered on silver (if is just about color) and i think if you are paying a soo overrated service they should do an explanation and recommendation...
Great shop! I have been a bicyclist for 35 years (not counting the kid part) These guys really know bikes and they like to hang out and talk about them when they are not busy fixing your bikes.
Got my bike from here along with a saddle, lock and cable. Great customer service. I recommend CSC.
Bob is honest, knowledgeable and friendly. His primary goal is to help you improve your experience as a biker. This is a great place to buy a bike or get a tuneup. Highly recommended!
I dont know a lot about bikes, and the people at College Street Cycles were able to help me choose a bike that is a great fit for me. I told them my budget and they gave me a few options that were within my range and even showed me a few that were less expensive. They never tried to upsell me.My biggest concern was safety. One of the team members there, Roberto explained the benefits of the new disc breaks which are super safe. I chose thicker tires (also a recommendation) which are safer on curves and Im now kitted out with lights. What I also greatly appreciated was that when I came in later to buy a lock and some other accessories, the owner, Bob put them on the bike right there, stopping what he was doing to help me out. There are some amazing bicycles out there, but I love my new Cannondale from College Street. My favorite part? The tires dont go flat! Theyre some magic technology tires that dont go flat! Amazing!Thank you Bob!
I highly recommend College Street Cycles! I purchased a bike here, had an issue with it, and Bob immediately responded to my concerns, going above and beyond to ensure my satisfaction. The prices are great, service is outstanding, and it’s hard to believe how much merchandise they have in stock in their little store! Give College Street Cycles a try. You will not be disappointed!
I went to College Street Cycles after my brakes blew coming down Science Hill. I had just bought a bike from Bradley Street Co-Op which I was assured was in perfect condition. Instead, I ended up almost crashing coming down Science Hill when the brake wire came out. I wheeled my bike to College Street Cycles five minutes after close. The owner was kind enough to let me in and repair my brakes free of charge. Would recommend to anyone looking for high-quality bikes and high-quality service. They definitely have my business in the future.
Ive been a regular for several years at College Street Cycles. Their line-up of bikes is pretty impressive. When you have repairs, the quality of their work is outstanding and they offer a quick turnaround. They are hands-on, experienced, and reliable, and have troubleshot bike issues where other shops would not even have started. They also give really good, practical advice about gear. I can highly recommend them.
I just recently moved to New Haven and wanted a bike to get around instead of relying on a car. Ive never actually purchased a new bike before and the last bike I owned and rode regularly was when I was about 13 years old - Im 32 now.Bob was extremely helpful and helped me get a bike that fits like glove. Cant stop riding now and Im having a blast on it.The bike and lock/chain were very reasonably priced and he took a good 15 minutes before I left to give it a good once over and make sure it was perfect to start riding. Also gave me a little coaching on how to safely shift gears and why thats so important from a longevity perspective.College Street Cycles definitely has a life long customer with me now. I wont be going anywhere else for my biking needs.
I stopped by College Street Cycles with a pressing bike issue (rear tire sidewall was ready to go and needed replacing ASAP). Thew crew at CSC not only hooked me up with a new tire, but also replaced the inner tube, fixed a broken spoke, and quickly trued the wheel. All of this on a BUSY weekend afternoon. Though I certainly didnt expect same-day service for all of that, I am exceptionally grateful for their knowledgeable and speedy help. I recommend College Street Cycles without any reservation!
The number one college street bike i’ll go sometime fix my mtb 29 but next soon i need buy the new chain for swuitch and fix
Ive had my road bicycle for 10 years now, generally in good shape, but every time I take my bike to this store for a tune up and small fixes here and there, it comes out riding as smooth as new. Very satisfied. Honest, hardworking, knowledgeable people working here. Too bad Im moving to the midwest--I hope I find bicycle folks as good as these guys there.
My GF and I, during this pandemic, (Its the end of April, 2020) made a decision to get a couple of bikes for ourselves. After searching around the internet, and settling on two Canondales, I called our local shop to place the order! That, is when the reality of this worldwide crisis began to really sink in, unless youre shopping Amazon, or running to the grocery store, shopping out has changed.Firstly, we werent allowed in our local shop, and second, the following day as I tried to place the order with them, I was told that they were out of stock. Not the store, but the warehouses. EVERYONE IS BUYING BICYCLES!!SOOOO, I checked google, saw College Street Cycles listed, it looked like it had good reviews, so I called.Bob, the owner, answered All of the questions and concerns that I had with patience and a great attitude. He also brushed me up on some misconceptions that I had.He told me if we were serious about getting bikes, that as long as we were wearing gloves, masks and werent exhibiting any kinds of illness that he would let us into his shop and show us some inventory. We showed up and he was great. He was knowledgeable, he wasnt pushy, and he didnt try to upsell us. Although, with his experience and expertise, we DID end up getting better more expensive bikes than we had originally planned on.We figured if we liked the sport, why cheap out. Although, he didnt seem to carry sub par stock in his store. So, a Canondale and a Giant later, we were on our way home.I highly recommend this establishment for your own, and your families bicycle needs.I know WE certainly appreciated all of Bobs help!He even threw a few extras in for us.Thanks Bob!!
Have been going there for some time now for various maintenance problems on my bikes. The pricing of what they do is beyond good, they have lower prices than Devil Gears in New Haven. Awesome service, nice dogs, positive outcomes every time. Recommend to anyone who needs a solution to their bike problems.
Great little shop. Bob is extremely knowledgeable and does great work. They have been super accommodating when Ive needed work done fast. Highly recommend!
Stopped by here the other day for a small bike part. Had never been in the shop before but ended up talking to the owner of the shop for awhile. Extremely genuine person. He answered a bunch of random questions I had and happily explained everything.All-in-all amazing place and should I need any bike maintenance in the future its definitely the place Ill head to.
Went in to get my first bicycle, obviously I was very new to the experience, they listened to what I wanted and some concerns I had. Showed me a few bikes but I said that color was important to me so he found a nice white and teal one. I tested it out and decided to get it. I love it so much. They also recommended a few accessories like a helmet, which they gave me advice on how it should fit, and a lock which they showed me how to use. Overall the experience was really enjoyable and stress free.I also watched them fix another customers bicycle on the spot, and offered to show her how to fix it herself later on when they werent as busy. It seemed as though they want every customer to walk away happy not just about selling as much stuff to people as they can.
Brought my bike in to get serviced. They were extremely knowledgeable on what needed to be done and explained everything in detail while also using the tools to show exactly what they were saying so it all made sense.Only issue was my ticket said call when done and they never did so dont hesitate to call them at the due date to get a status update.
Thank you Im new to this bike shop. Nice staff always willing to help they have a small shop but big hearts I will definitely visit again thank you guys for your help I would give you 10 stars but 5 is the limit
I dont know anything about bikes, and went in to get some help. I took in my old junky bike, and they were super honest and upfront. They told me how much it would be to repair the old bike, but also gave me some better options to spend less money on a newer bike. I got a much better deal, and learned a lot more about bikes, too! And Im so glad I went with their recommendations, I ride my bike every day, and I couldnt be happier with it. They were super friendly, accommodating, and easy to work with. I definitely recommend them!
I love this place. Ready to deal with anything, big or small, quickly and courteously!
The quality, speed and affordability of the service they provide and the parts they sell blows my mind. Ive been cycling for all my life and have never found a shop that begins fixing my bike the moment I walk in, much more economically than any other store and returns it before I can have a coffee in far better shape that it ever was. For example, every time my back wheel ever got bent, the shops I used to go to in the UK and Switzerland would always insist on buying a new wheel, which would take weeks to order. Somehow these guys over here are able to bend it back whilst I wait – they say by just fixing a spoke. Ive been there about half a dozen times with problems and every time it was fixed on the spot. Theyve always had all the parts in the shop. Their two very friendly dogs are wonderful company …
Ive been coming here since high school, but I didnt take his advice and still bought my new street bike from Wal-Mart. Bike turned out to be TRASH, he tuned it up to where it rides like a pro. Thanks man
This bike shop is awesome. The workers are very helpful and the prices are not bad at all, I highly recommend it!!
I initially went to the other bike shop in downtown, where I was greeted with The more affordable, used bikes are outside when I asked for help choosing a decent but affordable bike. I tried again another day but was given the same response, and I noped out of there immediately. This is when I went to CSC. At the time of my visit, the owner was preoccupied with several customers, but he still kindly took the time to show me the available options with detailed explanations and suggestions based on my commuting needs. CSC is where I purchased my first non-Walmart bicycle, and I do not regret it one bit. My experience with the service at the store was excellent, and I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a bike or is in need of some repairs.
Brought my bike in for some small repairs. There were some small issues with the repairs, but they corrected their mistake and all is great! Nice little bike shop!
Hands down best bike shop in New Haven! Knowledgeable, friendly, and home to the quintessential feel of a fine establishment. No review can do this place justice, stop in and experience it for yourself. Say hi to the dog too!
It is always a pleasure to visit this store to receive professional, friendly advice that is worth following.
Got a bike for my son here and bike works good.
Stopped in to ask about a tune up and they were really helpful, polite and kind. Great place!
Got my last bike from College Street Cycles. Excellent service!!! Highly recommend.
For a store of its size there was a big selection and the staff was very knowledgeable and helpful with my future bike purchases
Originally written in spring 2009:I cannot say enough nice things about the guys at College Street Cycles. I took my beat-up *mart bike in there to get the suspension fork removed, and Bob went into their stock and found an old generic cromoly fork that would work. He took the bike at 1 PM, replaced the fork, adjusted the bottom bracket (it was over-tightened), and lubed the wheels, bb and chain. Called me at 6 PM to tell me it was ready. 65 bucks for everything, and the bike feels utterly different now. More controlled, and the BB is spinning smoothly, which it never has. When I got there to pick it up, he and the other mechanic chatted with me about my future plans, the century I want to try, my current bike, the possibilities for future bikes, etc. We had a good general bike guys chat, and they treated this newbie with respect. It was a far cry from my last LBS experience. I really felt like they cared about what I needed, they were interested in my end of the conversation, etc. At one point I told them how much attitude I get from a certain other shop over my *mart bike, and one of the guys said what a lot of people here say: If youre riding, then that is all that matters. Lots of people start on department store bikes until they learn what they need and what they want to accomplish.I cannot tell you how nice that was to hear from an LBS employee!College Street Cycles just got shot to the top of my list. I will likely be buying a bike in mid-August and they will be my first stop. I highly recommend them, especially to new riders.**UPDATED 08/19/2010**I bought that bike from College Street. Bob put me on a slightly (barely) used Giant Defy 3 and has stood by it every step of the way. Hes talked himself out of more work than I can even count by giving me free, expert advice. He always offers up the advice I need, not necessarily the advice I want to hear. Hes helped me become an actual rider who is addicted to road biking. I still shop elsewhere when I *have* to, but Im not spending any real money anywhere else. College Street Cycles is a great shop. I can rarely beat his prices even when shopping online, and when I buy from him, Im supporting my local bike shop. You should as well.Awesome dog, too. :)
Friendly atmosphere and knowledgeable service
Great service. Took my bike (bought from outside) there and they repaired the handles for free.
Just bought my Baby a new bike!! Customer Service is awesome!!!
Did a great job on my bike
Bicycle wheel problem that was fix in less than ten minutes. The old rear wheel was total and had to buy a new one for my Specialize Crossroad bike. Thanks College Street Cycle for your time and repair that was money worth expend.
Very kind and helpful
Amazing!
