Where to begin, probably by stating I will not be returning. They seem bothered by the presence of people; almost like a customer is an interruption in their busy day stocking merchandise to collect dust. Ive been there a few times as I like to support local businesses however, every single time finding help is like pulling teeth. The final straw was buying an item and being charged 8 dollars more than labeled. When I called to have them remedy the problem they let me know that the price tag was old and that they charged me the updated price. If I did like it, I could return the item, but they were not giving me the price on the box. This is false advertisement since all the prices were facing the isle and the customer. The item can easily be bought for 15 dollars less at a big box store but because I wanted to support small businesses I went local. Dont question why people prefer Amazon to condescending local attitudes.
The small mom and pop that has EVERYTHING. When I need one or two hardware items and dont want to disturb my peace with a visit to Home Depot or Lowes, this is the place for me.
Came in at 10 minutes before closing. Will helped me figure out what I needed to install a new door knob. It worked great. He was a big help. My daughter needed the door knob fixed and because of Will I was the hero. Thank you Will and the Saunders family
Poor customer service. We purchased a Weber grill from Saunders about 2 years ago. It cost about $1,000, and while I could have purchased it for less, I believed they would provide better service. I was wrong.During the pandemic, we bought replacement parts online. They didnt fit perfectly, but we decided to use until things calmed down. I called Saunders to order replacement parts today.Patrick, who said he was the manager, refused to look up my name in their records, or order the parts by the grill model number. He told us to measure part, and he would order that size. Weber replacement parts must fit exactly, and often different by a 1/16 of an inch. Because we had tried to replace during the pandemic, we didnt have the parts to measure. We went online, and a vender helped us locate the model number to ensure we got the right parts (they apparently are not common). They are shipping them to use, and while we might pay a little more, it was well worth it.There is no reason to pay Saunders high prices, if they dont have customer service. You can buy Webers at Costco, Home Depot or several over local hardware stores. I recommend that.
The folks who work here arent as friendly as the ones at the hardware store in Watching Plaza. They can be a little gruff. But its still a fine neighborhood store with a wide selection packed in. You should go!
A nice hardware store. Has what you need and staff who know where it is.
I am a usual patron of Saunders Hardware for the past year that Ive lived in Montclair. I went in last Saturday to pickup a few items. When I was paying with my credit card, I had taken my card out of the machine prematurely and the screen showed a cancelled transaction, so we re-processed the transaction. Turns out that the 1st charge did in fact go through. I called in on Monday afternoon when I found out about the double charge. I came in the next morning to speak with the owner Tom. I gave him all the pertinent info (as I no longer had the receipt) and he said that he would get back to me by the next day, as he did not have the previous weeks receipts with him at the moment. He ended up emailing me at 9pm that same night, then followed up the next morning as well. This morning Tom emailed me and he had done further research with the CC processor and the bank. He got me an authorization code that I can give my bank so that I can get the money immediately instead of having to wait 7-10 days.I will continue to give my business to Saunders Hardware as long as I live in the area! :-)
Staff ultra helpful and friendly. Real old time hardware store that is filled to the brim with merchandise but they know where everything is.
Saunders Hardware is Located on Valley Road in Montclair the store is very small but has a good selection the service is great 👍 they also have Benjamin Moore paint 🎨 which is great 👍 but the paint 🎨 is expensive it can be up to $60 which is crazy 😜
I will preface by saying I rarely ever write a review, good or bad. This time I just cant help myself though. I live pretty close to Saunders so have been there quite a few times over the last 10 years. Ive tried to overlook their lack of assistance from time to time but last week was just too much for anyone to ignore. I went with my child and a friend to buy a few things for a science project and the person behind the counter was useless. They were rude and completely unhelpful. Imagine, I bring in two little kids with a picture of some supplies, one of them a pvc pipe, and the guy looked at them and said I cant make any of that out so no, we dont have any of it. Maybe try another store or our sister store. When I went to the other side the older guy was at least more attentive cause he looked up at us, but still not really helpful. I always remember a town hardware store to be helpful and attentive, basically what has always set them apart from the big stores like Home Depot, but Saunders doesnt know the meaning of customer service - let alone good customer service. I ended up at American Royal and cant tell you how completely opposite everyone there was... If you ever need a hardware store, go to American Royal.
Poor customer service.... I came in before 5pm to get Benjamin Moore paint. After ordering my paint, I wanted to get another can and while trying to decide which color to buy, at 5:10pm, the manager said that its too late because they need to clean the machines. When I questioned his customer service, he said that he doesnt get paid past 5:30pm. He also said that I can go to Ace Hardware, Ricciardi Brothers or Home Depot. Well, so much for supporting a local business. I now know where to go next time!
One of my favorite hardware shops to visit. Great selection, helpful staff, and quality products.
Great local hardware store. Very kind workers!
Very helpful people there. They really were the ones who made it possible for me to complete a project on my motorcycle. They had most of the right bolts and when they didnt they filed a couple down to size for me. Really enjoy doing projects when guys like these are on my side.
Nice hardware store. Had the lawn bags I needed.
Excellent small town hardware store. Always a pleasure to shop here. Feels good to support a local business with such friendly, knowledgeable staff.
Pretty much everything you want in a local hardware store
The owner and staff have on an off days for customer service. The customer is not always right at this store. Great selection just need people to be friendly and customer service focused.
The guy was annoyed that he had a customer! Thought it was great there was a hardware store in walking distance....boy was I wrong. I now drive to another 1 that likes having customers
Always helpful and they usually have exactly what I need
