Best cigar shop in north LA!! Governors was the first pipe and cigar shop that I ever went into. On my 18th birthday me and a buddy went to get a pipe and pipe tobacco so that we could be like our grandpas sitting around a fire smoking from a pipe. The owner Friday Ellis is a very knowledgeable man when it comes to pipes and cigars. I love the atmosphere of the shop as there is also a lounge where you can find many a men shooting the bull while enjoying a nice stogie from the always stocked humidor.

Also they are a Drew Estate Lounge offering all the Drew Estate Lounge exclusives. The best place to stop along I-20 for Cigars and Open til 8pm every Day. The Front of the shop has a nice laid back feeling to relax and enjoy your cigar or sit outside the front of the shop under the awnings and enjoy the weather as the shop is located in the Historic Garden District of Monroe, LA.

My wife and I wandered in a few months ago and were blown away by Fridays knowledge and level of customer service. When my wife inquired after his cigar selection, he didnt bat an eyelash or talk down to her. He showed her some of the cigars she asked for and recommended others without being pushy. He and I talked pipes and pipe tobacco for a good while before the wife and I both headed into a very comfortably furnished lounge, extremely happy with our purchases.Whether you are a novice or a veteran cigar and pipe smoker, Friday will make you feel at home and ensure your visit is a happy one. Highly recommended.

So happy to see Governors Lounge up and going again. New ownership has added new equipment to manage smoke and new stock is add weekly if not daily. Environment, people, selection is still all on point! Stop and treat yourself for an hour or so.

I love this place! Great for any cigar or pipe lover. This is not a place to just go and buy your supplies (although you can), but its so much more. Its a great place to sit down, relax, converse, learn a few things, and just get away from the outside world for a bit. The vibe and feel of the place is very masculine, but a woman can easily fit in due to the company it keeps and coffee lol. The customer service is by far one of the best Ive ever seen and theyre very knowledgeable of the products. All around, Id give this place more stars if I could.

Friday runs the best high end tobacco shop I have frequented. The humidor is always stocked and the atmosphere is incredible. If you live in the Monroe area or are just passing through town, you owe it to yourself to spend an hour or so in Governors.

Stop by the shop a little after 10am and ended up waiting until almost 11 am before someone showed up, then went in and the humidor didnt have any stock in it? Though the customers hanging out there where very friendly even with no air conditioning in the shop. Hard to see how this shop even stays open.

Friday makes this the place it is. The place is made for sitting get around and telling stories. Comfortable and inviting.

I have been hoping for a place like this to open. The first time visiting was one of the best experiences I have had at a cigar shop. Because we were new, the owner showed us into the walk in humidor, which is fairly common for small stores. This is where the owner, Friday (yes that is his first name) made the first good move. He didnt start making suggestions like we (my wife and I) didnt know anything about cigars or pointing out boxes that we could see and read for ourselves. He first asked if we would like suggestions. Basically he offered his expertise, but only if we wanted it. The selection in the humidor is limited to mostly smaller boutique cigars so we accepted his offer. Friday then asked what type of cigars we liked and listened to us as we named a few, none of which was available in the humidor. Friday then prefaced his suggestions by stating that we could take it for what it was worth and feel free to ignore it completely. He didnt presume that he knew more about cigars then we did while offering his knowledge of the cigars in his shop. Class act.What he did next was what is rare in my experience, and I have been in quite a few cigar shops all around the US. He offered his suggestions and then left the humidor stating that he would be glad to answer any questions we had. That move alone ensured I would be visiting again. He did hover over us or follow us around the humidor. My wife and I were free to discuss what selection we wanted in private.The real prize of this place is the lounge where you can smoke. The room is not large, but more than adequate with 3 tables, a couch, and 4 or 5 chairs. There is wifi and cable TV. The room had an adequately sized air purifier keeping the smoke to a minimum. There are no drinks, but you are free to bring in your own. They do have glassware that you are able to use which is a nice touch. We had some pleasant conversation with Friday before he was called back to the front. When he returned he first asked if he could join us before sitting down, another classy move. We of course agreed and had a great discussion while puffing away. In fact the conversation lasted until closing time. We offered to leave and Friday said we were welcome to stay and finish our cigars. Our cigars lasted more than 30 minutes past closing time and we never felt rushed or hurried.While the selection is smaller, it is unique cigars that you will not find elsewhere in the area. Listening to Friday, the selection has planned expansion and the humidor is already getting more shelving. When visiting keep in mind the shop just opened so some things are in transition, but it is already a worthwhile stop to make.
