This comment is a long time in coming. My partner is physically disabled and has bought 2-3 computers as well as accessories from Recompute. The service has been fantastic with the sales staff spending every second we needed to accomplish what we needed. During the sale process, the staff pointed out pros and cons of different models and even made recommendations on models that were less expensive but met my partner’s needs better. At the end of the sale the staff has even carried the purchases to the car for us. Repairs and service have been speedy and very affordable. Thank you also for an accessible store space for a wheelchair user to get around!
A few years ago I was in need of a PSU for a cheap build. Maybe it was because I know the industry and what a reasonable mark up was, but I got a great deal. Went back there again for a USB-Serial adapter, which was a pleasant surprise to see they had in stock. So I recommended them to people from time to time, and continued to do so after I left Missoula. Recently the people Ive recommended have informed me of poor customer service, feeling ripped off, and some pretty outrageous prices on low quality used components. Reading the responses from the business here Id have to say its easy to make your own judgement just by how salty the replies to the reviews are. I, personally, will no longer be recommending Recompute.EDIT after store replied: Just as a point of clarification, I have no problem spending more money to help a local store - but that needs to come with an advanced level of support and service. I see youve gone back through years of reviews and edited your responses to be more positive, and thats a good start. But its not just about how you reply to an irritated customer, or how you defend your prices after youre called out. Its how you present yourself as a company overall to begin with, and how you keep that up. If your staff was knowledgeable and customer focused you wouldnt have the problems that people are complaining about here, or on any other platform where Ive seen reviews. Im sorry you dont have time to help customers, as you pointed out with your reference to helping a customer with their home office - but maybe if you made the time people wouldnt be walking away disappointed.
Originally I was frustrated with the difference in price between online dealers and a local business but now I better understand how stocking a shop works. Im glad to have a local computer shop to get need to have bits and pieces.I remember the staff not being very professional at the time but it may be better now.
Erik and his crew at Re-Compute Computers are very knowledgeable and responsive with very fair pricing! We only trust Re-Compute Computers for our business! I highly recommend!!!!
Came in looking for an affordable gaming computer had a great selection and got an amazing deal, staff was super friendly and informative and got me everything i needed. Would highly recommend
I first went to Recompute about 5 years ago, after other shops became totally inept, slow, and/or unreliable.WOW what a difference! Recompute KNOWS computers. They work on your machine right there; do NOT send it out. They are fair, honest, quick. They listen to me struggle to describe any problems or needs I have. Recently, I had a problem playing DVDs; they took less than 5 minutes to identify and update my HP laptop, and show me how to best use my computer.I took my teen nephew to Recompute a few years ago to pick out/build his desktop; they were happy to discuss machines and features with him, did NOT rip him off, and were/are still really supportive.Lots of new, but even more, slightly-used SUPER affordable high end laptops and desktops. I got a used laptop from them last year and it works like a charm; No price gouging, PLUS, they stand by all their products/service.
60 dollars for a tp-link tl-wn881nd. That is a mark up of 300 percent! Lol. No returns too. Its kinda my fault, I guess. Should have looked around town and I could have only spent 30. I didnt really look at the pricing of anything else but just from that it just seems like taking advantage of people who arent PC savvy.
I cannot recommend this business any less. They are in the business of charging you for services they do not provide and harassing their customers. They held my computer with a broken screen for over 3 weeks without doing any work on it and not communicating with me about what was happening. I decided to take my business elsewhere. When I asked for my computer back they literally threatened to call the police. When I took my computer to another store the repair was done in under an hour. I strongly suggest anyone with computer problems go anywhere in Missoula besides this store. In response to the owners telling of the story: I disagree on many accounts, but I do not feel it would be productive to engage in a shouting match. Instead I would like to elaborate about him threatening to call the police. He informed me that he would call the police on a customer; he had done it earlier that day and once the day before. I had to wonder, why would any reputable business have customers so upset that the police needed to intervene three times in two days?
Stellar Service & Knowledge!!!I used their service to upgrade my older HP, they were great about explaining what would work best, they had great prices for service and parts and had it installed fast. Now I dont need an upgrade, my HP is running faster than when it was new! I would totally use them again and would recommend them to anyone looking for this kind of service.........Great Job!
I am very happy with their service. I use them for both my personal business needs and my medical offices that I manage. Always get our computers taken care of with fast, professional and reliable service and a little bit of humor mixed in. Need humor when it comes to computers or you might go insane/computers have a mind of their own some days.It cant be the operator ;-). I cannot boast enough about Jason (he is the best)!!! Thanks Re-Compute!!! Last note just want to give a shout out to Blue Eyes havent seen you for awhile! Thanks for all the years of excellent service. Recommend you to all I know!!
Great prices and good computers. Bought a custom built desktop for under 1000 and works awesome. Wont go anywhere else for computers and service.
Trustworthy local business. Ive bought and repaired Windows and Mac desktops, laptops and related accessories from Recompute for ten years. Im a longtime computer user who consistently purchased service warranties from Dell prior to finding out about Recompute. I havent bought a service contract since. Their prices are fair and they stand behind their products and service.
I wish I could recommend this computer store, unfortunately I had a bad experience entirely. After having my computer stolen I needed a replacement asap for a business trip. So I proceeded to buy a used Apple laptop from them. The sales guy was nice, even stayed a few minutes late for me. He explained they guaranteed the computers for 30 days, and also had a 14 day return policy. I paid and left. At work (out of state) the computer would run 5 to 10 minutes and shut down losing my data. This happened for 3 days. I had to then buy another laptop as I must have one for work. When I returned to Missoula I took the laptop back, the owner was there. He told me he couldnt return it until he looked at it and that would take up to a week. I explained to him I had spent my Christmas money on the new laptop to replace this one and really couldnt wait. He was apathetic, terse and unwilling to compromise. The man has no customer service skills. I received a phone call 6 days later saying he had watched movies on it all weekend and it worked fine for them, they wouldnt do anything for me unless I went in and recreated the problem. Being that I travel for work I wasnt in town and was unable to go in. Long story short he wouldnt refund my credit cards, making me go into the store to pick up a check a week later when I returned. He charged me a $250.00 dollar restocking fee, not once offering any sort of apology or concern for the trouble. As a matter of fact he told me I should be nicer as he is pocketing my $250. He also didnt refund the charger I purchased with the computer since it didnt apparently come with one.
Dude tried to sell me a 6ft ethernet not even packaged for 10 bucks. 10/10 wouldnt recommend.
6 months ago I had a flash drive go out on me that contained important files that I had not yet backed up. I searched online and called other local businesses and recieved quotes from $800-1200 with no results guaranteed. Recompute did in for $220, saved my files and said that if they couldnt retrieve them I would only owe $40. These guys saved me from a huge headache and didnt rake me in the process. Highly recommended.
I have worked with recompute for several years now. Their customer service and attention to detail is professional. I have found reasonable prices as I bought my used macbook through them. Years after my purchase, Jason a current employee, has helped with my questions and made minor adjustments my computer needed. I highly recommend their service and honesty. Thanks Recompute!
I bought my first computer from these folks. Every time I have been in the store, very knowledgeable about the merchandise that they have on hand. Keep up the great work. I have recommended Recomput to several of my friends.
Though I have never been here personally, I must say that if ever I was to choose a computer store to find or fix anything it would be recompute. I personally love working on computers and have always wanted to work for a computer repair company. I was an Computer Technicians Assistant for several years, working on computers for my school. And, when I moved to Missoula, I was excited to know that a computer repair company was just 2 blocks away! I wish I could work here, but I dont know how to approach a company asking for a job without a degree. Keep up the good work Recompute.
This is the only place in Missoula I take my computer for repairs. Recently my Macbook Air decided it was time for a good old fashioned crash. I took it in to Recompute and was greeted by Erik- he told me they would happily look at my computer and figure out what needed to be done. Within a few hours Erik called and discussed the issue with me- he told me upfront what the cost of diagnosis and repair would be--I really appreciated the communication and explanation. Within an hour Erik called again to let me know my computer was ready for pickup. I went in and he showed me what he had found and what he had replaced, also he gave me a demo of my working computer. He explained the invoice line by line and I feel %100 satisfied with the price and the work provided. These guys are a local business that put the customer first- my mother is a lifelong customer here, and now so am I. Thanks again Recompute!
Perhaps a bit empty-feeling when I first walked in, Recompute quickly warmed up to me with their down-to-earth yet expert service. They know what theyre talking about and give really good recommendations. Aside from examining and repairing your own computer, they also sell some of their own. Some are new, some are used, but theyre all hand-picked and Recompute is sure to give you the extra oomph for your dollar; they may not have the right machine for you but if they do its going to be better (and cheaper) than Best Buy. I bought my current laptop there and its a real beauty I couldnt find in other stores. If I need computer help from an expert which must be done in person, these are the first people I turn to.
Great guys. Ram worked perfectly.
I am ALWAYS EXTREMELY satisfied with their service. I still bring my laptop from Colorado to Brad to repair. Their service... IMPECCABLE!
Brought in my broken computer on a Friday night and was told I would find out what was wrong after the weekend. An hour later I get a call saying its all fixed. These guys do good work. Price was a bit steep, but I understand as it is a small business competing with big corporation customer service.
My experience with recompute was two fold. I initially went in there to get some help with my laptop and the wifi connection. I was unable to afford the $70 the hulking man that first helped me said I would have to pay. I didnt understand why I would need to have a barrage of tests done on a new laptop. Granted, I may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I know a new computer is not usually needing a bunch of tests. I was told that his time was extremely valuable and did not come cheap. So, I come back a few days later with money in hand and am helped by a different person named James. This time was hands down different as night and day. He patiently listened to my problem and asked me to show him what I was doing. So I turned on my laptop and showed him that there were no wifi networks displayed. He calmly explained that this is a common issue he sees and showed me a button on the keyboard that turns the wifi on and off. He asked me to push it and it came on. Problem solved. By simply taking the time to ask me a question or two, he was able to win my business. Now, as a woman of fixed income, I can totally appreciate the time that he spent with me and at no cost. However, I will be back and I will tell others about my experience.
I wish I would have gone here first before purchasing my copy of Windows XP online. I could have saved a ton. Ive never actually bought something, but I went in there looking for a floppy disk to rebuild my computer and they just gave it to me. Really good people there.... or maybe they just know Ill be back to actually spend money ;)
I highly suggest avoiding this place. My mother who doesnt know much about computers told them she didnt want to buy a refurbished computer so they offered her the one that my husband (a government IT specialist) is now taking apart to fix, and might I say who ever is refurbishing these computers did a terrible job. Seriously, the whole inside looks beat up and then SUPER GLUED together. My mother is trying to finish her masters at the college in 4 months, she needed a reliable and NEW computer like she asked for and this company took her for a ride. Im posting this review because I am absolutely livid and I know she wouldnt do it. Not ok!
Im not usually the type of person to leave reviews - good or bad. However, after my experience with Recompute Computers I feel the need to let people know their business practices. I brought my computer in because my windows operating system was corrupt during an update and my computer wouldnt even turn on. I have a few things that really bothered me about my experience here. The worst part was that their computer tech LIED to me. When I called to check on my computer after a week, I also wanted to know how much the work they were going to put in was going to cost. I asked how much I owed because they knew how much data they were recovering and they were in the process of re-installing the new operating system, so I knew they understood exactly what work they had left to do and that they knew the cost. The tech told me I owed them for one hour of work, or $79.99. When I went to pick it up the price had somehow soared to $390. I was frustrated for two reasons. First, the tech knew on Friday how much I was going to have to pay when I came to get my computer, but went through a loophole and said how much I owed at that exact moment. The data hadnt been recovered yet and the operating system wasnt fully installed, but he knew how much the processes would cost me. Second, I asked that they call me if the price was going to be much more than $79, because my computer wasnt really worth much. And on their paperwork that I signed it said that if the repairs were going to be more than a certain percent over what they told me, they would call to authorize the work - they never did. When I was upset about the cost I was basically told that I didnt have to pay it if I didnt want to, but that if I didnt I wouldnt get a fixed computer or my data that was retrieved back. So, what choice did I have other than to pay? I understand that sometimes to get the job done right you have to pay a little more. Im not against paying a little extra to a shop I trust, but to be lied to when I ask, very straight forward, what the repairs cost and the tech decides to only include the repairs he has finished and not those that he knows he will being doing, just to make it seem like its going to be less, is absolutely absurd and is a dishonest business practice.Second, it took over a week to get my computer back, and when I would call to check in the computer technician seemed annoyed and was very short with me. After a full week with my computer he said he wouldnt even give me an estimate as to when it would be finished, and when I reminded him that I am a student and really rely on my computer his patients just got even shorter. I understand these things take time, and honestly didnt really care that it was taking so long, just as long as my computer wasnt sitting on a shelf being ignored. I have a large amount of data on my computer because I am a photographer, so backing it up took time, which is what the tech kept telling me. Only to find out that the reason it really took so long was because twice while backing my computer up his own hard drives failed, which was frustrating to me, but it happens. It wasnt the time that bothered me so much as the employees attitude. If the owner of this business is okay with his employees going through loopholes, lying, and being short with his customers I am extremely disappointed. I will never go back to Recompute to get repairs, nor will I ever send my friends there.
The owner is a washed up yuppie that lives off of other peoples success. In other words he is a failure of a human being and a low life. Charged me 150 dollars for a 55 dollar part, plus 65 dollars for labor. Just research parts yourself, then do the math and save your money. The owner WILL respond with lovely slanderous claims, lies, excuses and justifications that have little to do with my actual complaint. In my opinion nothing could justify overcharging parts for the unassuming students of Missoula.Oh and my new screen is not functioning anymore because it was not put back together correctly. It flickers and goes dim whenever i type now. So yeah if that constitutes great work, have fun with these guys.
So far so good dealing with this company 3 times now
Good selection, a little on the higher end of pricing but compared to missoula repair shops its ok. Not very good parking.
I have had the very best service and very reasonable pricing. I have used them for mulitple companies and every one of them will use this company again!
Went in to pick up dvi d to vga adaptor for my monitor bwcause my vid card has dvi d output and my monitor is vgaguy told me what i wanted wouldnt worksuggested i drop a bunch of money on new monitorbought $10 dvi d to vga adaptor on amazonnow im happy
Personable staff, but needs some training. As a pc expert I decided to help support our only pc store in town when buying a new power supply for.my.gaming rig, to realize that they sold me a non-sli compatible psu with no returns as the salesman told me when I bought it. First off its my fault as someone who knows what he is doing I should have double checked what I was sold, so thats on me, but still not happy
Way overpricing pcs. DO NOT go there
I’d give zero stars if that was an option. My son, Devin, has cerebral palsy and has been working with recompute ... unfortunately we have had nothing but bad luck and poor customer service. The first week the Bluetooth did not work and even after bringing it in we had no luck. Then today he’s informed me that they said “the motherboard will need to be replaced” which will cost him another $500 ... The upsetting part he is had the computer for less than a month!!! He lives frugally on basically a little more than $700 a month & in an assisted living complex so you can imagine how long it took him to save up to purchase this computer!! I’m incredibly sad and disappointed that he is dealing with such a nightmare. Unfortunately they seem very resistant to helping remedy this problem. Be careful and my advice is to take your business elsewhere if you expect your new computer to work for more than one month.
Recompute, always great once again, good service, great prices, Thanks keep up the good work. Long time customer.
Good and cheap!
Service was fairly quickly and reasonable. Solved the issue and sent me on my way.
Overpriced! Make sure to compare prices in stores or online first!
High prices on old Macs.
Brad is cool
