My wife and I live in South Minneapolis and our old, wooden storm door was in shambles. We could not be happier with our custom-made, circle-top storm door we got from A&A Millworks. The customer service experience throughout was top-notch and Mark and Cassandra were great to work with and went above and beyond with helping us deal with an issue with the door hardware after we re-hung the door ourselves after staining it. Also huge kudos to Ben the installer...he did wonderful work during a brutally cold day back in January. Will definitely go back to A&A for any future projects.
Worst possible customer experience. Different stories every time you call. Employees contradict each other in what they tell you. Long delays. Excuse after excuse given, many of which are highly improbable and amount to whining, and evidence of internal squabbling between family owners the brunt of which is borne by the customer. NO business sense whatsoever here. Beware of this company. Especially do NOT use them for large or expensive orders if you value your money and your time. If we could give 0 stars we would. This company has sadly gone far downhill.
I love patronizing this establishment. Everyone is always so helpful. I own a property that was built in 1909 and they have reproduced lovely wood trim for me. Yesterday so needed a small amount so I stopped to order some. The beautiful young lady that helped me first looked in their over run bin and found just what I needed which saved me about 80%. I WILL be back.
We had a very tight deadline to meet a city inspection before we moved out of state. We called A&A and they were so, so very helpful with getting us a door quickly. They had excess stock that they looked through to find us an exterior door that fit our space. We couldn’t be more grateful.
Moving to Grand Ave in St Paul. Great place! Amazing assortment of knives, so rare that youd need to have one made for old moldings.
Hi there. I ordered a screen door last fall (September). It was too cold to install by the time it came in. Im listing my house this week and have been trying to reach A&A for the past few months to get it installed. I know they havent been open due to COVID, but the website and window of the new shop says they will work on existing orders. Ive stopped by the shop, emailed, called, followed all instructions and cant get ahold of anyone. A&A - if you see this, can you please reach out???
My wife and I were looking for new windows before our first child arrived. Mark and his team walked me through replacing our windows in our 1920s house. They were very friendly and thorough, the measuring and installation didnt take long at all. My wife and I couldnt be happier with the finished product. I looked at several different places and no one could beat A & As pricing. Would highly recommend.
BEWARE! We paid several hundreds of dollars for a custom stair tread to match the originals along with lots of various trim work. It took 6 weeks longer than we were told (12 rather than 6 weeks) and when I got my order home I realized that one item (36 total feet of maple cove) was missing. The order was of course paid in full and I had a handwritten order form/receipt from day 1 listing everything correctly along with prices. Long story short, over the next 4-5 weeks I made several calls and stopped in to the store twice regarding this mistake but received only excuses, ignored calls, promises to look into it and get back to me, blame, promises that they will correct their mistake, more excuses, rude replies, more ignored calls, and more excuses. I finally just gave up. It was truly bewildering how unprofessionally everyone I interacted with at A & A Millwork behaved. And I really wanted to like this place.
We shopped around for a few months for storm windows for our 120+ year old house. We didnt need anything historic, but we wanted the best protection for our old wooden windows. We found A & A Millwork online, and gave them a call. They had the best price for the product out of all the companies we got estimates from. Their team was friendly and knowledgeable, and they were professional during install. We definitely plan to use them again in the future for other projects.
UPDATE /3/20My dispute with AA Millwork has been resolved. I’m pleased to report that they contacted me and we have resolved this in a satisfactory way.We signed a contract in June 2029 for them to repair and replace rotted wood at our front door. To date they have done nothing, despite numerous calls and several promises to come out on a specific day. Clearly they just wanted to get off the phone with me even though I was polite and patient with the numerous excuses. They would never call to reschedule, and I have now been forced to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. We have been completely disappointed and now hope a third party will help us to get a refund of the several thousand dollars we gave as a deposit OR actually complete the work promised to be finished last summer. Buyer beware!
We had a great experience working with A&A Millwork. They offer reasonably priced double-hung custom wood windows that are an excellent choice for older homes. We were also impressed by A&As customer service - we recently had a problem with one of our new windows and Mark (the owner) handled the issue personally and made sure it was taken care of that same day. I would highly recommend A&A for anyone looking to replace windows in an older home, not to mention homeowners in need of custom millwork and doors.
Mark helped us fix a botched handy man door install. He explained every aspect of why it wasnt correct and gave us options for how to patch what we had or rip it out and do it correctly. He made time to make sure we were getting the best quality and customer care every step along the way. We could not be happier with the services A&A provided.
Mark, Cassandra and the other folks at A&A were great to work with. We have a 1909 4 square house, and we were remodeling our kitchen and redoing our windows upstairs. Finding matching woodwork for the old house was near impossible, even with the master carpenter we were working with - once we found A&A, we knew we had our answer. Mark and his crew worked with us to match woodwork and to find the best wood for the project, as well as to get us the doors and windows we wanted. Even if everything didnt always come fast, it did come right, or was made right. We plan to work with them again when we replace the rest of our windows or any other work that requires quality materials and craftsmanship.
A & A Millwork did an excellent job of replacing my birch window that was damaged by water from an ice dam. They matched the birch wood in the bedroom perfectly! They also were fast and efficient. Great quality and excellent customer service!!!
Great CUSTOMER SERVICE! Reasonably priced. Specializing in items for Older homes! Weve found NUMEROUS items that I thought wed have to have custom made.
Unbelievably awful experience.I love supporting small family owned businesses, so I hate to have to publish such a poor review. However, constant excuses, blame, and blatant lies summarize our 5 month experience. We placed an order for a custom bi-fold door. Gave dimensions of the finished opening. They notified me of the planned door dimensions. I questioned if the door would be too short. Was assured that the track was a much larger track and the opening would be filled. After a 6 wk wait the door arrived. Our experienced handyman discovered that once the door was installed, a gap significantly larger than industry standard would be left between the floor and the door bottom. To their credit, A&A were willing to have the door replaced. We had to remove all car seats from our van, drive it across town to return, then reinstall the carseats. Super frustrating when this was not our mistake. We brought back the track, telling them we were unsure if a new one would come with the replacement door. They kept it.Cassandra promised us that since the mistake was the vendors, the replacement door would be fast tracked to 2-3 weeks. We waited 6 weeks. With much prompting, Cassandra finally agreed that they would deliver the replacement, as they are frequently in our area for installs. When our handyman arrived to attempt to install it again, he discovered the track was missing and that the door was now too large to fit the opening. It was basically fabricated to the height of the finished opening, so with the (still missing) track in place there was absolutely no way it would fit.I called Cassandra to notify her and before I could even finish detailing the issue, she proceeded to scream at me that it was my fault as supposedly we didnt understand the difference between a finished and rough opening. The original invoice very clearly states the finished opening dimensions the door was to fit. In addition to that, I had sent her pictures of the opening that showed it was in fact a finished opening and not a rough opening. The responsibility of A&A and the vendor was to provide a door that would fit said finished opening dimensions. Fortunately, nearly all communication had been via email. We consider ourselves to be reasonable people. I hate to to have to file a chargeback and damage a businesses reputation if its not warranted. So despite Cassandras treatment of me on the phone I wanted to give them another chance to resolve the issue. I sent an email detailing the problem, my disappointment/frustration, and what we wanted as a resolution.Cassandra called me back and admitted that their vendor had made the door incorrectly both times. I requested that they install the door for free (cutting the door down to fit the finished opening as part the install), as a resolution. We had now spent >$100 for our handyman to make 2 visits to attempt and troubleshoot. After admitting that a mistake had been made twice, she told me that they had already lost too much $ on us. She said that I needed to give a little bit since it was the vendors fault and not theirs. Are you kidding me-Ive already had to spend >$100 on our handymans time thus far and waste significant time trying to resolve a door that was made incorrectly TWICE. She even suggested that I ask our handyman to provide the rest of the install at a discount or free of charge. Absolutely not-I respect our handyman and he had no part in this mistake and shouldnt lose money. By the end of the conversation she did offer two options. 1. They would pick up the door and refund us. 2. They would install the door, but not for another 6 weeks when existing customers had been taken care of. We opted for #2. For 10 days I had to send numerous emails requesting the install date. After more excuses and no date, we finally said we wanted the refund. She replied with an extremely unprofessional email stating the mistake was suddenly now our fault again and we were stuck with the wrong size door. Total Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. CC charge was disputed successfully
They installed 40 plus windows on our condo building. They worked fast and did a great job. They were polite to deal with and answered all questions we had in a timely manner. I would hire them again.
A&A Millwork designed/built 6 custom windows for my daughters playhouse – cedar construction with tempered safety glass. The windows turned out perfect and I have received many compliments on their craftsmanship and appearance. They are also building a custom door for the playhouse right now too, cant wait to see the finished product! When it comes to custom millwork and windows, nobody does it better!
I was referred to A&A Millwork by a friend. I also wanted to use a local business to replace my front entry door. My initial impression was very positive, but as the days turned into weeks I found them to be very unresponsive. I would call and they said they would call back and didnt. Apparently they didnt want my business so I moved on. I would not recommend them to anybody.
We really appreciate the excellent products, service, expertise, and counsel that we receive when we work with A&A. As a family business ourselves, we like their ethic, reasonable prices, and personal touch. This is a unique business--if you are remodeling, they will help you with windows, doors, and other millwork. They have made doors, stools, window sashes for us, and their moulding selection is outstanding and priced right!
Its great to still have a millwork business around to produce one-off or historically correct trim pieces or doors for remodels. Being a family-run business makes it all the better to buy from them instead of a big-box store.
Totally awesome team, efficient, keep their promises, super great product!!!
My husband and I are repeat customers of A&A. They replaced our original 75 year-old double-hung windows with custom-made, historically-correct wood windows and new storm windows a few years ago. I couldnt be happier with the result. The double hung windows are identical to the originals (we even re-used the original hardware) but with the tilt-in/out feature of modern windows. They also retro-fitted a few of our original windows (that didnt need replacing) with the tilt-in/out feature. Brilliant! More recently Mark helped us when our front door was seriously and unexpectedly damaged. He arrived within a few hours of my call to size up the situation and assist with securing the door until it could be replaced. He and Cassandra were very helpful as we navigated through multiple conversations with the insurance adjuster for our claim. Once again, I am delighted with our new interior door and storm door.Mark is a true craftsman and is deeply familiar with the architectural details of the historic homes in our Minneapolis neighborhood. He is knowledgeable about his product but unpretentious and pragmatic in his recommendations. Key point: Our home has very lovely woodwork but is not a palace by any means. Mark understands the practicalities of budgetary constraints and will work with you to find the right solution and value for you. Now, he is a straight shooter and can seem a bit gruff on the exterior :) but he truly cares about delivering high-quality work for his customers. Doing things the right way for the long haul. I truly enjoy working with him and wont hesitate to go back for our next need.Everyone we have dealt with at A&A including Cassandra, their daughters, and the installation crew has been service oriented and committed to excellence. They also have been patient with and responsive to our few follow-up questions and needs. As a family-run business their hands can be full at times - so be prepared to cut them some slack and be patient during their busy summer months - but I appreciate that I always get a call back. Most importantly, I have every confidence that the improvements to our home will stand the test of time. If you are passionate about preserving the historical details of your home, no one will do a better job for you than A&A. If you simply want things done right, you also will be in good hands with them. Please give them a call!
Our 1930 tudor has millwork that is no longer commercially available and must be custom made. A&A Millwork has always been able to provide an exact match. Their family run business always provides excellent service and owner Marks experience with older homes has proven to be a valuable resource. Helpful, unpretentious, timely-I wouldnt consider going anywhere else for mouldings, doors or windows.
I typically dont write reviews but I was so impressed with A&A Millwork I felt they deserved one.Mark & Cassandra were awesome to work with! Our new slab entry door looks awesome. The prefinish we ordered looks wonderful and is a very close (since its wood you can never get exact) color match to the rest of the woodwork in our house. All work met or exceeded our expectations. Paul (the installer) did a great job with the installation. He took his time and made sure everything worked perfectly. He was also very patient with answering all my questions.I cant comment on how competitive they are on price as we only got the one quote. I felt it was very fair considering the product, quality, and work involved. The most amazing part of the process was the detailed measurements they took prior to ordering the door. They were able to precut all the hinge slots and handle/latch holes prior to arriving with the door. All they had to do was put the hinges on and hang the door. Paul made one very minor adjustment and the door works better than the 8 year old door we originally had.Its nice to know there are still companies out there that take pride in their workmanship. I would highly recommend A&A Millwork and wouldnt hesitate to use them in the future!!
A & A Millwork recreated all my mouldings, doors and windows to my addition on my 1890 Historic Home.Cassandra and Keith were unbelievable in there knowledge, quality and service they provided tom my historic home.Nobody in Minnesota was able to provide the service and had the knowledge of the team and A & A Millwork.
Ive brought a few home projects over to A & A, and been very satisfied with the results. Family run, helpful staff, friendly atmosphere.
They sent an installer out to my house over a week ago to measure for a screen door (Matt). I spoke with Cassandra and Mark inquiring about price and lead time. Both Cassandra and Mark said they would follow up with me and get me “taken care of”. I have attempted to hunt them down for a week without response. I explained this to the person answering the phones at the front desk, and it didn’t seem to phase her, she offered no solution. Really pathetic customer service.
Last work could of been handled better. They have the ability, they are losing their passion.
I remodeled my older home that was built in 1912. I found A and A millwork. They guided me through the process of keeping my home Historic or older! The Crown molding, trim and old style door was a fresh upgrade and at the same time match the historic character to a tee. I had the airport put new vinyl windows in but later had A and A replace them with wood windows that came with this style type house. Then later found out that these were approved by MAC as well. I had originally made the wrong selection.
Purchased all of our baseboard and coving from them. They did a great job at matching the wood type and styles to the example pieces I brought in from our 100yo home.
Quality work that they stand behind. Kudos to all.
Way over priced, SP windows will do just as good a job for much less. Im glad I shopped around.
These people are the equivalent of living next to a cranky old “let me see the manager type”. They have a sign in their lawn threading that they have cameras and if your dog comes on the property they’ll sue. They also reduced all the parking on the block to timed parking and will personally leave notes on people’s car. PETTY.
If you have a moulding or trim piece you need to match snd cant find it anywhere else, mark probably has it. If not, he can make it.
Great products at great prices!
