Beautiful place. Service was a little slow, but it gave time to look around. The loaded croissant was terrific. You do not have to be a member.

I cannot recommend this place enough! From the food, to the fun, to the membership deals, you cannot go wrong here! Oh, and did I mention the library?? Yeah, this place has a library. Not only can you sip coffee, nibble a pastry or cookie, eat pizza and play chess but you can also read!

I’m not a member of the chess club however, we did stop in for a casual afternoon lunch. The ambiance was unique and relaxing. The food was decent - they offer sandwiches, pizza, salads, coffee. Seating is somewhat limited for families. Most tables are setup for two (chess). There are larger tables for parties more than two. Like most coffee shop, there were several tables occupied by people studying or working and they were occupying the largest tables but not eating/drinking. A little aggravating for a family looking for somewhere to sit.

I love the chess club and I regularly would dine there but after a recent incident, NEVER AGAIN‼️‼️ I was charged twice for a purchase and because they couldn’t see the 2nd charge, they wouldn’t refund me. That makes completely no sense to me. To add to that, I had to wait an extremely long time to find some sort of resolution. Waiting made me miss my lunch as well as wait for a class. I won’t be going back to the Chess Club.

Best sandwiches downtown. They are gigantic. Coffee is great, although sometimes slow. The place is filled with history and games of chess. They do have other games to play as well. The tournaments they hold are nice to be around even if you dont play chess. A great quiet spot to study or hang out for a quiet conversation.

What an awesome space. The atmosphere is super chill with tons of seating options. The coffee and pastries are legit. They have everything here: coffee, beer, sodas, pastries, sandwiches, pizza, and salads.

Went to support my son Devonte Truesdale for Music Knight and the Atmosphere was so refreshing! I was given a tour and that Chocolate Chip Cookie....... WOW! The staff was Amazing and I am excited about taking my 9yr old daughter on Sundays at 1pm to learn Chess with other children ❤ Loved It!

Disappointing...i came here for the good ratings 🤦🏽‍♀️ this was the kids meal I ordered for my daughter idk what’s going on with this chicken but I wouldn’t even give it to a homeless person...food was mediocre. Only thing that was decent was the fries...

Visited Memphis and we loved this place so much, we had to go twice! The café is beautiful and very spacious. They had a simple but delicious breakfast menu. The coffee was top notch. Employees were super friendly. Such a lovely part of our visit! I highly recommend.

Wonderful atmosphere and fantastic hidden spot. The interior is amazing and a great comfy space to chill or hang out before a game or other event downtown.

This is the perfect place to chill, have coffee, and learn much more about chess. The food is pretty good too. Its quiet enough to focus on your game or to study. The membership fees are pretty decent and classes are offered for newbies. The staff is very friendly and I enjoy each visit.

This has become one of my favorite places. Great food, great staff. Excellent coffee. Great place to meet up with friends. I think they have some of the best pizza in town.

Excellent place, they allow Visible Music College students to perform live shows there, which is one of the things that stand out from many places. Also, their food is actually worth buying for a decent price. The employees there provide great service. The sanitation for things there seems well taken care of as well; restrooms, table, etc. Though Ive eaten there like 3 times, Im satisfied everytime I leave, and somtimes full for a decent price. So its a five star for me.

Quality reasonably priced food that is served in good portions. There is a significant skill range - from titled to beginners- so regardless of your level you will find a fair game.

I am here visiting from houston and was walking by yesterday and stopped in and bought a chocolate filled croissant as well as a plain. I went back on today to get breakfast loaded croissant for me and my friend and it was delicious. Look forward to returning.

Best food for the money in downtown Memphis. They have a great selection and a really fun, relaxing environment to eat/hang out/work remotely, etc. Highly recommend Memphis Chess Club.

This is the 2nd oldest club in Memphis and all I can say is it was a warm welcome from the start and I havent stopped going ever since. Kids welcome of any age, from 7 to 94😄

Really enjoyed their pizza and espresso drinks. They put on one of the smoothest run chess tournaments Ive been to. If you have any problems, they are eager to find solutions for you. Amazing building and chess atmosphere. I really had a good time and cant wait to visit again.
