I went here for the first time Thursday and wasnt sure what to expect. From the moment I entered the experience was great; I was warmly greeted by two people, escorted to my table and was waited on by Gaby? if I remember the name correctly. During the course of my meal she kept a close on on everything to make sure I was well taken care of. The manager and another employee also stopped by during my visit and made sure everything was perfect. For my food, I ordered the ribeye steak and it was great. The food was just what you would expect from a professional restaurant. This is a well run restaurant with experienced servers and the next time I am in the Knoxville area I will return.
Oh my goodness.... bday celebration for a friend and we nailed it with this place. Decor was great service was awesome food was out standing Im seriously impressed. Hats off to the chef. Only thing that couldve been lil better was the carrot cake maybe a lil more moist idk it was hard to complain about anything. I certainly will be coming back when in town again it was devine! Nom nom
My fiance and I stumbled upon this place for an anniversary dinner and we were INSTANT fans. Wonderful service, cocktail list and upscale southern menu. This is something youd easily find in downtown Nashville or Charlotte. Food and drinks were out of this world phenomenal and the atmosphere was sophisticated, warm, and inviting.
Ford was very good The server was excellent. Atmosphere was good. Temperature inside the restaurant was chilly. You might want to dress up warm and bring a jacket just in case you get cold.
The food and drinks were amazing! Its been a long time since I had trout that tasted that good! Their black walnut old fashioned was perfectly made. Their cheesecake was delicious for dessert. Overall, I was very impressed.
The food is good and so is the service. My biggest complaint is that its just so noisy in there. For the price, I wish it was a more quiet atmosphere. It was nearly 200.00 dollars for mine and my husbands meal, which is fine occasionally. Great food, beautiful restaurant, but as noisy and relaxing as a Cracker Barrel.
The price on the menu may have you thinking twice BUT it is worth it. My wifes Birthday dinner. Chicken Lollipops (Amazing), Crab Dip (Delicious), Salmon Special (MMMMMM), Duck Ramen (Authentic), and Carrot Cake (Scrumptious). Our server was attentive and very efficient. I highly recommend this spot for any occasion! Oh. The Blood Orange Margarita was strong and delicious as well.
Now I will say I was expecting a bit more of a fancy experience none the less the food was all perfect and our server was friendly and attentive throughout the entire visit. If youre looking for a slightly above casual date night or trying to stray away from the typical chain restaurant this is absolutely a great choice! Thank you to the kitchen and our server for a great night!!
We ate dinner with our kids and we love the atmosphere here. The cocktails are simple but elegant and delicious, the appetizers are delicious. The chicken lollipops are a MUST HAVE! Also the butcher board was superb!Customer service was amazing, my steak was overcooked and they remade my meal and gave me half off my meal for the inconvenience. The rest of our meals were cooked to perfection. Love this place! Highly recommended for a nice evening out with high class dining experience!
Natasha was a great server! The food was excellent, and the drink selection was extensive.
The atmosphere is great. The parking not so much but you know the food is good if the parking lot is full!! We went on a recommendation from a friend and met some new friends there. We all enjoyed our evening. Our waitress Tara was excellent. My ribeye was cooked just like I like it. Loved the brussel sprouts! Overall great experience.
You want high quality food done right with mouth watering flavor, then the walnut kitchen is the place to go. Top notch staff and cooks that care about there customers. It was mine and my wifes 10 year anniversary and they treated us like we were newly weds. The service was outstanding and Jimmy went above and beyond on our date night. Trevor and his crew ran a perfect cooking stations and food was awesome and cooked to perfection. This is a well oiled machine of a restaurant. I will be recommending this place to anyone that wants a excellent evening of great food and service.
High praises for the Walnut Kitchen. Started off strong with an incredible old fashioned that used peanut butter whiskey. Probably Screw Ball? I dont know, but MAN it was good.Their menu changes often, so youll never have quite the same experience each time. I know my entrée and starter arent on the menu any more. But for contemporary southern, this place is the jam. Pricey, but totally worth it for a nice treat, and easily one of the best upscale restaurants in east Tennessee. Would definitely come back here for a special occasion.
Good food but nothing memorable. Server was excellent; attentive and knowledgeable. Had the blood orange margarita- very good. Gnudi sharable plate-interesting and tasty, very attractive but heavy, left me not wanting to finish the dish. Cheese and bacon rotini-excellent flavor and texture; by far my favorite dish of the evening. Simple grilled chicken breast was grilled nicely and seasoned well. I also had the red pepper risotto which sounded great but was not. Poorly seasoned and slightly undercooked and a bit sticky. I’d go back after I’ve tried some other notable eateries in the area.
We’ll let me start by saying that the reviews I have read make this place sound awesome, when I’m fact the quality of the food was very basic and low quality in my opinion, I ordered the chicken parmesan my boyfriend ordered duck with some kind of noodle soup, pea Concoction, the Bloody Mary drink I ordered was over powered by olive juice it was disgusting! The bill came to $130, I don’t mind paying money for good food but not for low quality food like that! WONT GO BACK AND DEFINITELY DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AT ALL!
A congenial, an elegant take on Southern style dishes with a twist, in a warm an inviting atmosphere. The WK offers a full bar with various premium spirits and original cocktails. They also provide a wide range of menu offerings, and host the opportunity for personalized Chef Tastings. For our starters we enjoyed two starters the crab dip with goat cheese and pita styled bread, as well as the southern style fried chicken with honey. For dinner we had the Land & Sea: an aged fillet with scallops, seaweed, pumpkin cream and a very unique Fregola. We also went with a southern classic: Shrimp and grits, which we paired with an 8 oz Sirloin and sweet potato. For dessert we had a very succulent Panna Cotta with a deconstructed Caramel Apple.Very great experience, cannot wait to schedule a Chef tasting.
Decided to celebrate tonight at the Walnut Kitchen. We were seated in the back literally next to the kitchen. For an upscale restaurant I felt sorely out of place and awkward. It was like sitting at waffle house listening to the water cooler gossip and agitated employees dealing with customer requests. It pretty much killed vibe of the whole evening. Id definitely recommend asking to NOT be seated by the kitchen when you make your reservation or just go over to Foothills Milling Co.We started off with the Crab Dip Skillet for an appetizer. It was delicious. Ordered with w/o the tomatoes, but still ended up having to pick them off. I ordered the Dry Age Filet for my entree. It was cooked nicely. The taste and flavors were wonderful. I ordered the caramelized onions and grilled shrimp as well off the accompaniments menu. The shrimp were quite large and seasoned perfectly. However, I felt they should have been served with some kind of drawn butter. I would not recommend the caramelized onions, the portion was small and nothing special for $6. My husband got the American Burger. The meat was delicious and cooked perfectly. The bun however was very over cooked and burned in places. The fries were good. We also had the Cheese and Bacon Rotini. It was ok but nothing life changing.Pros: Local restaurant. Farm to table concept. Tennessee dry aged beef.Cons: The atmosphere. Im not sure if this was just where we were seated or if it was an off night. However, when Im spending over $100 on a meal, I dont want to have to listen to the staff talk about other customers and act inconvenienced by their requests.
Very nice place. Natasha was an amazing server. Looking forward to the next time.
This was our 1st time dining with friends that were visiting us from out of state. We had the 8oz sirloin, with 2 sides, ( broccolini, rotini with bacon and cheese). Everything was cooked perfectly as well as delicious. Neil the server was personable and accommodating.
We had our 8th anniversary here tonight. We’ve heard a lot about the farm to table, locally grown produce and food that The Walnut Kitchen has to offer. The atmosphere was quaint, our server James, was awesome. He gave us plenty of suggestions since this was our first time there. For starters we had Crab dip, Yee Haw Dunkel and a Peachy Keen. The crab dip was superb. For dinner we had the swordfish with Mac n Cheese rotini and a 14oz ribeye with Mac n Cheese rotini. Both entrees were cooked to perfection. We will return!
Great food! Julia B. did a great job explaining the menu, attention to detail and pleasant to speak with! Very good food! Will be back!
Walnut kitchen was truly delicious. Our server was extremely helpful with recommendations and the food came out with perfect timing. The table was a little small, but otherwise the cocktails were the best we have had anywhere. The focassia bread was the best thing we have ever experienced. The steaks were perfect and compared with anywhere 100 miles around Knoxville.
Clean & fresh cooked food options! Refreshing mix of flavors of foods, wonderful & patient wait staff, reasonable wait time for food, great recommendations for food by staff, pleasant atmosphere.
Motorcycling from CT and happened to pull in there as the chef was getting out of his cool old Datsun truck, we talked for a few and went inside to eat, next thing I know we got the hook up of lollipops! (chicken legs) Food was excellent and just what we needed after a long day.
My wife and I stopped here on a win. We were way underdressed. This place was excellent. The steak was incredible.
One of our favorite restaurants in Maryville. Delicious food and drinks. The staff is fantastic.
Disappointing at best. When I pay $36 for a HALF-rack of baby back ribs, I expect them to be falling off the bone. These were not. The peach bbq sauce was different, not a bad flavor at all. The jicama slaw was almost flavorless. My wife enjoyed the salmon.Next time I want ribs, Ill find a Famous Daves.
We really wanted to like this…After months, we decided to finally try Walnut Kitchen.Service was extremely slow to the point I saw my beer sitting with the bartender for nearly 10 minutes (finally served flat). My fiancée was often out of wine and finding our server was difficult.I ordered the $65 steak medium rare and was served a brown steak. Although a nice cut, the overcooked steak was simply not nearly as good as it should have been.(we were comped a $10 dessert)Wish we would have had a better experience on a $200+ meal for two.
I was really, really rooting for it to be worth the prices, but it breaks my heart to say its not. I was a good sport while at dinner, because the server was WONDERFUL and the presentations were exciting, but gosh yall, the food underwhelms. And I can deal with that, it happens from time to time, but the cost of everything meant that this experience HURT. I was drawn in by the hype, but I know this will not be a place I ever return to or recommend... I see this as an If you build it, they will come establishment. Its a success at this point in time because people will spend crazy money on anything these days, just look at the housing market, and I cant blame them for getting away with prices like this, but its not legendary or anything to tell a friend about. I would just describe the whole experience as a big SHRUG and SIGH. I wish the company the best, their intentions are good, but Im just sad to have lost that much money to this place. *sad face*.... NOTE: My table shared 3 different appetizers, 5 different entrees and 2 different desserts. We did our best to try it all, so I dont leave this review lightly, it wasnt just 1 meal that disappointed us.
Great food, great service. One of our favorite restaurants.
Fabulous service and excellent food. Would definitely return!
Drinks and service were lovely, our appetizers were a different story. We came in for a few cocktails and dinner. The blood orange margarita was very good. We then ordered gnudi and cupcaked blackberry chicken for our appetizers. Gnudi was good, but the chicken was awful. You have to TRY to dry out chicken thighs, but the Walnut Kitchen managed to do so and serve it. It was taken off of our bill, but Im shocked someone would even serve it after it looking at it. We wound up leaving before ordering dinner.I also learned staff members are not allowed to wear masks despite several employees testing positive for covid. Bad, overpriced food + spreading disease? We will not be going back.
Excellent food, very good service, ridiculously high prices
We had a great time! The food was fantastic and our waitress did a great job. Highly recommend!
Absolutely loved this place. We had a colleague retiring so we decided to try The Walnut Kitchen. We reserved with a little less than 10 people. We had our own room, and our waiter was very good. The food was phenomenal, the service was friendly and all that we could hope for. We had a wonderful time. From start to finish we were well taken care of. The fellow retiring had been to many of these dinners with others and said he thought this was the best he had been apart of.We were able to send off an invaluable employee in style. The great food, service, and atmosphere allowed us to all relax and enjoy the moment. We will be returning to this restaurant in the future for many of our company gatherings. No complaints.
Waiter was super amazing. Loved the service. My burger was cooked Perfect but fries were burnt... The appetizers were just okay. My husbands steak was way way undercooked, I mean raw, and he ordered medium rare but he is the kind who wont send it back because he fears retaliation lol. Overall I could tell the cooks were doing their best and so was the waitstaff, so they get 5 stars.
Wonderful staff, fantastic cocktails, warm atmosphere, and a bacon cinnamon bun dessert thats out of this world!
I have to admit that we really enjoyed this place. A group of 5 of us went. Only 1 had been previously (6 months ago) & had advised that it was okay. Well, all 5 of us enjoyed our visit. There are things to watch for: their liquor & their wine prices are jacked up pretty high, & their meat cooking scale is off a full degree (their medium= a true medium rare & their medium rare= a true rare, & their medium well= a true medium). Its quite odd.We started with the Butcher Block, which was outstanding. Our entree orders consisted of the 30oz Porterhouse (it will make 2 additional meals), 2 of the 14oz Ribeyes, & a wild boar rack. My Porterhouse was excellent & I would order it again (by their odd cooking scale), but the Ribeye was exceptionally smoky tasting, which blocked much of the beef flavor, unfortunately. I was very glad that I didnt order the ribeye. The brocollini & the brussel sprouts sides were both excellent. Also, the peanutbutter macaroons & the pineapple cheesecake desserts were both quite memorable.Well be back just to try the other menu items.
Fine dining in a casual atmosphere. Superb service.
I had made last minute reservations for an early dinner after arriving at TYS airport. This dinner was very special for my husband & I as we haven’t seen each other in a couple of weeks while he has been taking care of his parents. We arrived early and were able to enjoy beautifully prepared cocktails at the bar. When it was time for dinner service, the staff was extra accommodating and sat us in the back where it was nice and quiet so that we could catch up. They had a great beet salad and amazing duck breast dish where the polenta & mushrooms paired very nicely. We also ordered the rack of lamb medium rare. It was beautiful but a little undercooked. After we sent it back it came out perfect. They had a good wine selection too. They made our night extra special and would love to come back. Thanks Walnut Kitchen staff!!
Where to start. Food is simply delicious. service is spectacular A+. Cleanliness is superior. Yes!! I’m a huge fan of Walnut Kitchen.
Food was very good. Seemed a little high priced but was still very good
First time visit for my wife and I. The service and food were exemplary. Thank you for the wonderful evening.
We went here to celebrate a family birthday and had a great time. I enjoyed the atmosphere and decor. The craft drinks were good. I had blueberry ginger martini that was perfect. My spouse was impressed with their beer selection and enjoyed the restaurants own brew. The menu was small but very tasty. The only down side was that we couldnt eat outside as the patio was booked. Make a reservation to enjoy this restaurant, and you wont be sorry.
Everything we had here was really good! Chef Alex and company are doing great things. Also, they are another one of our customers, so I know they source locally.
You can always trust a fat guy for a food review, so here goes. Went here for my wifes birthday. Had reservations and were seated immediately. The cornbread was just like mamaws. The steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Had roasted turnips and apples for a side. So tasty. Then the cinnamon roll for dessert. It has little pieces of Bentons bacon sprinkled on it!!!! Yes, BENTONS BACON!!!! So good it should be a sin. One of the best overall meals Ive ever had. The place itself is beautiful and cozy. The service is top notch. Disnt have a drink, but looks like a well-stocked bar. A bit pricey, but well worth it. Highly recommend going here.
We had dinner this evening. The service from the hostess to server James was spectacular. Wife had the Hanger steak, I had a ribeye, both were cooked perfectly and tasted wonderful. Dessert was the cinnamon roll and oh.soooo tasty. Highly recommend Walnut Kitchen on Maryville Tennessee for a date night!
Great small bar experience and excellent meal!
Food was good. Service was slow.
Very good, service was good, fast food was very good. Atmosphere a little loud due to building other than that Great 👍
The food is always good here. I wish the waitstaff were more aware of the ingredients in the food though. Husband and I eat a strictly vegan diet and recently accidentally ate some cheese there after we were assured the grit chips were vegan. Nope! It’s been awhile but I can still remember the taste of cheddar. My favorite is the white bean hummus. Whiskey list is huge!
The food and service was just hands down amazing. The atmosphere is so down home. I love the small place. There arent too many tables packed in either which makes it nice. Our server was the most polite and attentive server. Drink selection and quality was great too. The food though... price doesnt matter when its prepared that great and tastes the way it did. I will be back for any all special occasions when I need to be WOWd 😊 We had the Chicken Lollipop appetizer. Some of the best fried chicken legs Ive ever eaten. Colonel Sanders eat your southern fried heart out.. Then she had the 8oz Filet with Roasted Sweet Potatoes. The filet was probably one of the best tasting best prepared steaks Ive ever tasted. Its hard to cook that thick of a steak properly and it was spot on. I had the Hanger Steak. The gravy, fingerling potatoes and the Hen Of The Woods mushroom.. Mmm seconds please??
My husband and I were visiting the area from Durham, NC earlier this week and we stopped in for dinner as it seemed to pretty much be the only nice, unique place in Maryville. We had a great dining experience from start to finish. The place is lovely and very cozy and earthy. The manager seated us and was very nice and our server Frankie was great. He was very prompt and attentive and just cool.My pork tenderloin was delicious and perfect. My husband got the hanger steak and it came out just a bit too rare. He barely started to mention it to Frankie who immediately said that looks a little rare for my liking, Ill take that right back to the chef for you, and it came back out just right. I had a bite and it was just perfect, among the best the steak Ive ever had. We didnt mind at all that it had to go back for a minute, especially since we got the fantastic orange panna cotta on the house to make up for it, we greatly appreciated that.Another recent review says they arent a fan after trying many dishes here and like their food to taste better, but I have no clue what on Earth they could mean apart from maybe just salty. This food was perfect and properly seasoned, whereas I have noticed that many restaurants are way too heavy-handed with the salt so I think thats what a lot of people now think tasting better means. It does not. I very highly recommend The Walnut Kitchen. The walnut old fashioned I had with the meal and the cornbread were the best of each Ive ever had.
The ribs were not done, the rainbow trout was ok but a little salty. One side of the cinnamon was over baked. For 163$ plus tip should have went to Ruth Chris.
Wonderful food, even better drinks, but a single rotating vegetarian pasta dish.
Incredible food with wonderful flavor profiles. Highly talented chef and an excellent value for the quality of food served. Impeccable service.
The food is spectacular and the chicken pops are a great appetizer to order.
This pace was fantastic. We went for the chefs tasting dinner, and it was fantastic. The food was exquisite, and the chef was engaging. Had a blast for our anniversary. The only reason this gets a four star rating is we left hungry. For the chef tasting dinner, the portions are small. The regular portions of the menu looked to be sufficient. Im looking forward to going back and trying the regular menu.
Great food, atmosphere, and service.
We came here for one of our Anniversaries and loved it. We even brought our little girl and our waiter was great with her. The food is a little expensive but it is also really good. The atmosphere was very pleasant also and made for a quite dinning experience. You know what they say, you get what you pay for. Its expensive but I feel like its worth it. Its the perfect place for a special occasion.
Great atmosphere and very friendly staff
Very good service. Food prep was awesome and choices varied. Loved the little touches like mini milk bottles for creamer for after dinner coffee.
Great Steak and Service
Amazing dinner experience! My first time there and it’s definitely on the repeat list!Started with drinks and an appetizer. Waiter was very timely, patient, and thorough throughout the evening. I’m personally not a fan of okra, but their fried okra appetizer was delicious.Main entrees. Filet and shrimp “add on”. My dining companion ordered filet with mushrooms. Both steaks were very high quality cuts and cooked to perfected. I’ve never had light sea salt added to a filet before...very nice touch.Dessert was the berry cobbler posted in the pic below. Easy to share with 2, if not 3 people. The restaurant is $$$$ for high end entrees, but did offer a hamburger. Combine that with their tomato salad appetizer and you have a fabulous easy eat for less than $30.Overall, great environment, exceptional service, and a fabulous dinner. We’ll visit again soon.
The food was really expensive, and not very good...I got the harvest bowl and sweet potato cobbler as a curbside order and both of them were cold when I got there. (I got there maybe 5 minutes after the website said my order would be ready)The ice cream that went with the cobbler was almost completely melted. The harvest bowl didn’t have much flavor and it certainly didn’t help that it wasn’t hot... Same for the cobbler, very plain (it was hardly sweet at all, and i couldnt taste any spices or anything either, I thought that was really strange, just kind of tasted like plain baked sweet potatoes)I hate to leave bad reviews for local places but it was honestly really expensive for what it was. ($10 for one order of cobbler!) I have to say I’m disappointed considering it was a 30 dollar meal.I gave 2 stars because the girl at the front counter was very sweet and friendly, that was pretty much the only good part of the whole experience.I’m not really the type to go inside and harass the staff with complaints so I just let it go and got something to eat at home but I’m posting a review because if I had known it was gonna be like this, I wouldn’t have placed the order.
We had a large party The Walnut Kitchen sat us at a large table it was nice and cozy. The wait staff were outstanding. We all ordered our food it came thats where the problem began. We all ordered steaks all of them were tough and the taste was mediocre Ive had better steak Texas Roadhouse and it didnt cost 35.00. This review makes me sad because I wanted it to be great and it was not.I can not and will not reccomend The Walnut Kitchen it is very pricey, if you take a date there with drinks and food plan on somewhere north of $100.00
Best filet I have ever had...could have cut it with a fork. Well worth the money!
Really great food and service.Waiter went out of his way for a special request.
The food was good. Had the ribeye. In my opinion maybe a little over priced for what I got. Service friendly, but a tad slow at the end
The service was wonderful, the atmosphere was great but some of out food was too salty. We had a pasta dish that was amazing and a filet that was delicious but our hummus was way too salty to even eat. That was the only reason we didnt give it 5 stars.
The site was clean, the presentation flawlessly done and the food delicious and full of flavor! I thoroughly enjoyed my visit!
We had dinner reservations for 5:00pm to celebrate my husbands birthday. They sent me a text the day before to confirm our reservation. I called them back and confirmed the reservation. When we got there they were closed with a sign saying due to COVID they decided to sanitize. I understand things happen during a pandemic but a phone call would have been nice so we could make alternate plans. Not a good way to conduct business! We also spoke with another lady in the parking lot who had called in a carry-out order which she said they placed and she discovered upon her arrival they were closed. She was very confused since they took her order. We will not attempt to have dinner here again but if you have reservations you might want to confirm them about 20-30 minutes before your arrival and have an alternate plan in place.
The staff is very friendly and professional. The food is like no other u have tasted. Prices are on the higher side but face it. Your not eating fast food. Highly recommend this if u want well prepared and great tasting food.
This was our 3rd time at Walnut Kitchen and it was fantastic! Kelsey was our server and she took great care of us. My wife and I both got the strip (medium well) and both were cooked to perfection! They came with potatoes and carrots in a balsamic reduction with gravy. Very flavorful and then we finished our dinner with some delicious bread pudding! Can’t wait to go back!
Great food and fun/friendly service. Really well done cuisine in a casual atmosphere.
Just tried the Walnut Kitchen for lunch for the first time, and was very impressed! I was on my way into town to try to find something to eat, without knowing where... just feeling tired of the same old places, and not really looking forward to anything. Saw the sign that WK is now open for lunch and pulled right in! By the time I left, the parking lot was packed, for good reason! I got the burger with Bentons bacon and fries. Everything was perfect. Great to have another option in Maryville for lunch! Oh... and Julias service was outstanding. See you all again very soon! Grabbed a menu for the salon for when our stylists are hungry too!
The Walnut Kitchen is always on point. Food, drink, and service are second to none. Seasonal menu that always has plenty of options. Tonight, I had the wedge salad and the duck. It couldnt have been prepared better. If youre in the mood for something local, especially a good steak, do not pass this place up.
