One of the best book stores I have been to! I had such a good time chatting with the staff and the book selections had something for everyone–I had picked up 4 before I could stop myself. I have bought so many books this year and they have made it so easy. You place an order, get contacted when it is filled, call them when you are coming to pick it up, and they leave it in a bag with your name on it in the vestibule. They can get basically any book your heart desires and have been so careful all through COVID.

The best bookstore in Madison 💜 Support local indie bookstores during this time! And always! Thanks, Room! Were new to the area and wish we could have visited more before this all started but soooo grateful for all the books weve ordered (its been a lot!) and look forward to buying more for our new (smallest) member of the family soon. They also have a really nice online wishlist that you can make + send to family and friends easily + weve been adding to it for our baby.

Jesus Christ this place is amazing. I was never much of an avid reader and I hadnt read books since college (2015) when I wandered into A Room of Ones Own off of State Street, but this place has rekindled my love for reading! Its cozy, its huge, its beauuuuuuuuutiful, and its full of people (employees and customers) who love books and will give you unlimited suggestions on what to read. The staff picks are always a good guide and can be helpful for people who dont know where to start when they walk into a traditional bookstore. The store is just BRIMMING with a genuine love for books and reading, and every time I walk in there, I can feel that passion transferring to me too! I never regret going to A Room of Ones Own (but sometimes my wallet does).

You can never have enough time to do this destination justice. Always picks up my mood to go in and browse the books, cards and gifts. The front desk worker is a bit aloof but you dont need her. The other worker was friendly and helpful. The selection is deeper than a chain bookstore, and more suggestive than online shopping. Ideas, mood, beauty its all there.

The best bookstore in a bookish city! Room has a huge selection of both new and used books, and a deep commitment to the role that education and imagination play in the pursuit of a more just world. Knowledgeable and friendly staff, great books, and a friendly space for folks from marginalized communities: what could be better! Plus author Patrick Rothfuss is a silent partner, so theyve always got signed editions of his work.

Every time I come to Madison, I make sure to stop here. This is a lovely little book store with a blend of New and Used Books. It is not over packed and has many popular titles or newly released books. In addition they also have other items besides books like journals. Every time weve come here, my daughter has been able to find a book that she has really wanted. Ive also been able to find a wide selection of Wisconsin history books here. Sometimes bookstores have a dark and dusty feel to them, but this one does not. All in all, I love stopping here.

Absolutely horrible. Bought $100 worth of USED books from the store at the start of a semester for college and went to re-sell them at the end of semester thinking Id get half my money back or something, considering the books were already used when I bought them, but I guess used books from here lose 90% of their value when you have them. Disgusting. Some of those books even went unopened. You might as well save the books and use them for campfires in the summer or donate them to the blind because at least youll feel good about yourself.
