The mechanics are all professional and kind. They want to make sure you understand everything and take the time to explain it to you without talking down to you. Marcus is organized and Ben is super personable. I haven’t met the rest of the crew yet but I’ll be back and I’m positive they are each gems.

Ive visited McDermotts several times since moving to Madison. They are straightforward and do good work. Ive been very pleased.

Really good mechanics are tough to find. McDermott’s is no exception to the norm. The staff doesn’t go above and beyond, they aren’t overly friendly, you’re likely not going to get a great price, but they know how to fix cars. And that’s what they need to stay in business.

McDermotts installed the wiring and brake controller for my campers brakes and lights. It was a complicated job and I am very glad that they were the ones to do it. They are very professional and pay close attention to detail. I would very much recommend them.

Ok this is a unique post. We took our older vehicle into get looked at. We recieved a quote for repairs. I know that all quotes can vary, so marcus estimate can differ. This being said 2 other sources came in much lower and with very different (but the same as each other) conclusions. Also we got our car back and the passanger seat was covered with rust stains, the front floor and door jam had mud marks. He did call us to say that that he left our car dirty (by accident) and I trusted his statment. He took responsibility.They also had it detailed - the seat only - as the door jam and floor still had mud. He did follow through and was very polite and apopogetic. So since we did not get any work and he did communicate well I do not think it would be fair to go give less than 4 stars. But wanted to share info.

I had been recommended this shop by another.. Marcus was great, professional, personable, and understanding of the situation and called with very detailed suggestions regarding the diagnostics, and recommendations, explaining what was needed for safety and for peace of mind (even when he might take action on something). Really appreciated it and got the car back in a matter of hours.

We have 4 cars in our family from our beater kids car to my wifes much newer vehicle. Over the years, I have tried out several garages for both major repairs and maintenance always looking for a garage that did good work at fair (and transparent) pricing and provided practical knowledgeable advice about how to approach keeping my family safely operating our vehicles. I called Marcus after reading the reviews excited to do business and get some price quotes for service. To my surprise he was very much unprofessional. He basically told me I was wording/asking him the wrong questions, basically insulting my intelligence and then went on to say “let me help you on what You should be asking” congratulations!! you lost a potential customer!! Customer Service and first impression is everything...you failed.

OK, what repair shop do you have that can service a 2009 BMW, a 2008 Infiniti and a 2017 Mercedes Benz Sprinter? McDermotts Service & Repair is who we use. These guys are the go to guys for any brand and Ive seen them all in their shop (different brands). Fair, integrity, on time. Use em, you wont go back to whomever you used in the past.

Marcus and team are fantastic. Truly genuinely good people putting customer needs first instead of other locutions that are looking to make extra money by suggesting unnecessary work. I was in a disastrous car situation where I bought a used car with supposedly no accident history. It turned out the vehicle had been in a major accident which led to multiple issues with the vehicle. Marcus respectfully educated me on future dos and donts of purchasing used cars (he truly did so with respect which I appreciate as a young female who is not completely ignorant when it comes to cars, but his advice shared was information I was previously unaware of). I was able to get out of the previous car purchase contract and used Marcuss advice on how to best purchase my next used car. When I found another used car I wanted to purchase, I took it to McDermotts to be inspected prior to signing any contracts. Their assessment, findings, and cost of service were all fair and greatly appreciated. I will absolutely be using McDermotts again for all vehicle needs.

Ive been going here for a long time for repairs since the previous owner Paul McDermott owned it. When Paul told me he was retiring and selling his business a few years back I asked him if I could trust the new owner the same as I trusted him throughout the years. He told me he would not have let them use his name if they couldnt be trusted. That was good enough for me and I have not been disappointed.

McDermotts always does quality work. They can be a bit pricey, but thats not unusual with quality mechanics. I typically take my car into Dutchs on the north side, but as theyre a very small shop I know I can trust McDermotts to take care of me when Dutchs doesnt have availability. McDermotts also have the ability to perform alignments, which is harder to find in smaller shops as well.

McDormetts has an abundance of moral integrity combined with a fantastic down to earth feel. Whenever I bring my car in, they give me options. Last visit (3/10/18) they said I could do a.) a minimal repair, b.) middle of the road repair, or c.) go all out and fix the whole she-bang! Ben and his staff have always been great and friendly and have things done in a timely fashion. Ben has always been fast to respond to my calls and questions when Ive been in a bind. Most of the services have been done the same day my vehicle has gone in. And if it was to take longer he provided me with a reliable loaner. I have been loyally getting services done with McDermotts for the last 2.5 years and so have a few of my co-workers. Everybody is always satisfied and I wont go anywhere else.

My experience couldnt have been worse! I brought my car in with a service engine soon light on and it was running hot. I told them I had to use my defroster on full blast to cool it down enough to finish my work day and get my car over to them. They did the diagnostics for their standard fee and gave me two estimates depending on how exactly I wanted the work done. My car has a slight coolant leak. I told them I would have the work done within 2 or 3 weeks. I picked up the car and payed the diagnostic fee. Halfway home I find my blower motor isnt working at all. I drove it back only to find them telling me they never got my blower motor to work. They never said a word about my blower motor not working. It was working fine when I dropped it off, its the thing I used to cool the engine down to get it to them in the first place! In summary, my blower motor was working great when I dropped it off - they never said a word about it not working for them - it was NOT part of the estimate! - they had no problem sending me home with a non-working blower motor despite the fact there is snow in the forecast this weekend! The best they would do is charge me $155 for the part my blower motor needed and told me they wouldnt charge me for labor = I left! Ill NEVER go back there! What a waste of time and money!!!!

I’ve gone to McDermott’s for 25 years. The customer service by Deb and work by the mechanics was great. It WAS the hidden gem in the service business until now.... The new owners have been an interesting change, they struggled with the relationships and trust that customers had in the staff, Marcus lacked the skills but between the movie-watching he may have been trying to learn. It’s Christmastime and they fired the glue that brought the customers back time and again. WOW you’re a mean one Mr Grinch......,All because a customer preferred to work with Deb instead of Movie-buff.

McDermotts Service has been awesome! They have taken care of my high mileage Suburban twice. I recently took them my Suburban which was experiencing mushy brakes after I had a tire/repair shop flush and replace the brake fluid. McDermotts found there was air in the brake line causing the mushy brakes and fixed it. Now the brakes work like they are supposed to. Also a year ago they repaired my Suburban which was having power issues. They diagnosed that the fuel pump was going bad. They also found that the fuel pump which had been installed at another mechanic 4 years prior was a cheap aftermarket and the wiring had been modified. I really appreciate that they replaced the fuel pump wiring and connector with original OEM parts, and installed the correct OEM fuel pump. I really appreciate them going to all the extra effort to fix my vehicle right. They have great communications and are very pleasant to deal with. I have been very pleased with the work they have done for me and would highly recommend them.

As a new resident of Madison one of the hardest things about a new city is finding a reliable mechanic. I talked with Ben on the phone and we were able to get some ideas about what might be wrong. When I brought in my car they were upfront and showed me what was wrong on the transmission. Luckily it was a fluid leak which was relatively cheap to solve. When my car was done Marcus told me about the other things that could become issues and gave me levels of urgency for them. Overall it was a fantastic experience and they will be my where I talk my car for as long as Im in Madison.

I went here a couple times before finding a shop I really like. The people are knowledgeable, professional, and honest, but the prices are HIGH. Labor is $100/hr I think and what they charge for parts is also quite high.They will do a good job but get an estimate elsewhere before taking your car here.

I needed to find a local place in Madison to take my car for oil changes, repairs, and whatever comes up with owning a car. Mc Dermotts Services & Repair Inc has been a great place from the friendly voice that answers the phone, helpful staff, and knowing/building a trusting relationship with the owner/staff. I can say that I dont know much at all about cars and can feel confident about describing problems/sounds my car is making without feeling uncomfortable with lack of knowledge. Friendly and experienced staff, who actually listened to my issues. They took the time to listen to my concerns and issues I was having with my car. One of the techs actually sat in the car with me, and had me drive around to see the problem I was having, and after they heard the noise they took the car back and found the issue very quickly. Once they found the issue they took me back into the bay and showed me the broken piece that they were going to replace and how much it cost. I only trust McDermotts with my car, and the staff who I deal with is very professional. They are upfront with repairs and don’t add anything extra or that is unneeded to the invoice. So I had to bring my fiancés Ford Edge sport in for a door handle issue and was thoroughly impressed. If I had to leave the vehicle there they asked if I needed a vehicle, to be dropped off somewhere or could just wait. I had the time so I waited, which there were papers, magazines and coffee to drink. After about 30 minutes, he came and explained to me the situation in terms I could understand. He explained many different price points and possibilities I could take which I could later explain to my fiancé. Thanks McDermotts ... you certainly have us as repeat customers!

After experiencing a misunderstanding about costs the owner gave me a call and explained what happened and offered to make things right and this is great. Pleased with work on car and 83 point inspection gave confidence that the car had enough life left in it and the repairs were the right thing to do. The mechanics here have years and years of experience and it shows.

We have been using McDermotts for years. We first found them when my VW Golf broke down after hours several years ago. We managed to get ahold of them and they were so helpful in getting it towed for next day service.When we were shopping for vehicles a few years later they were more than willing to look over my potential purchases and give advice. When the first car didnt pan out, they looked at the next one free of charge.I trust them to do a solid job, give me honest feedback and to not hike up the charges. Would definitely recommend them!

I am from out of town and was visiting family in the Fitchburg area. I heard some funny noises from the engine and loss of power. My family member recommended McDermotts. It was on a Friday afternoon. I called and they said they would take a look. I brought right over. It was after 5 but Ben stayed and finished my truck for me. I have a Dodge diesel, so if Ben would have not squeezed me in, I would have been looking for someone to fix it over the weekend. Which would have been hard and expensive. Cant say enough good about this business !Thks for going the Xtra mile !
