Took it in for an alignment, they told me it needed a lower end tie rod. Total cost $360! I knew better so I took it to another shop, tie rod end installed plus the alignment for $150.

I always go to them for an oil change and other stuff I have needing to be looked at. Their prices are super fair and reasonable. As well as they do their best to figure out whats wrong and see if they can fix it in a reasonable fashion. Plus the staff is super sweet and nice!

They did a great job replacing head light bulbs.

I have brought a few of my cars to Merlin’s for alignments and they have been wonderful every time. With the new COVID restrictions you currently can’t wait at the shop for your vehicle so they worked with me to allow me to drop it off the night before and lock my second set of keys in it for pickup after they closed the next day. They also tightened some loose front end parts before doing my alignment which I appreciate so much, saved me a trip back to my mechanic just to tighten some bolts. They are great.

Had to write a review about Jerrod and his team. My sons rear breaks were in dire need of fixing. Jerrod was very patient and professional. It’s the week of Christmas, customers coming in left and right. Jerrod mentioned he had a migraine but you couldn’t tell because he greeted everyone the same, took care of their needs, many customers he knew by name. He displayed a level of concern and stressed safety when letting customers know about their vehicles. People are often reluctant when it comes to mechanics and whether they are honest or not. We trust Jerrod and will go back for other services. Thank you ! He is a keeper :)

I needed an oil change. I had called an hour prior to showing up there. They told me they were fully booked for today but come on in they could squeeze me in between customers. I show up there and Im told theres no way they could get me in. That was a wasted trip all across town. Do not convince me on the phone to come in if youre not able to perform the services that were mentioned!

Went in with a coupon for a rather inexpensive oil change with their 40 point inspection and they stated my RF lower ball joint and assembly needed replaced as soon as possible due to a safety hazard and my shocks and struts were pretty worn as well. Quoted me 485$ to do the ball joint, which I declined stating I needed to talk to my husband. About 2 weeks later my car broke down....fuel pump went bad. Towed it to Campbells in Loves Park, IL, where they did the repair and then checked my front end. They stated the ball joint and shocks and struts were fine, but the caliper pins had rusted and were keeping my brakes from engaging. I will never go back to Merlin again, their technicians make commission based on the services they sell, or so I heard. Dishonesty at its finest at this establishment.

Saw price for oil change and wanted tive them a try. Stopped in a couple months ago and was told it was too late in the day for an oil change. Was there before closing time so didnt agree....but no big deal. The suggested making an appointment. So I call today and ask to schedule an appointment for an oil change. Was told to just bring it in. When I get there I am told it will take two hours for an oil change because two other people got there before me. If they had let me make an appointment...this wouldnt have happened. Done trying with this place. They cant make up their mind how to schedule.

Went in for a simple tire alignment and they broke my wheel bearing in the process and I had to replace with my own money! They installed the new one free of charge, but now it makes a real bad grinding noise! So dang mad at that place!!!

Needed a wheel and tire Alignment. Called and got an appointment for the next day. They were on time and done in under an hour. Easy to deal with and I will definitely go back for other services.

Went to have a alignment done for their advertised special of 59 for front end which they refused to do until I bought new tires, replaced the struts, got new tire rods inner and outer, and new sway bars. The estimate they gave was almost 3000 dollars. I called some of the auto repair shops around our area asked for a estimate for those repairs and the majority said about 1200 for all included repairs. They were very insistent that the car is absolutely dangerous to drive and they really pushed us to get their credit card to pay for it. Really shady car sales men who have no car to sale.

The service was good and quick. You have to make an appointment for an oil change. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I have been coming here for years and I will continue to bring my business. I got my oil changed here for twenty- three dollars. Thats a lot less expensive than some of the other places I have been to.

So incredibly happy with this oil change shop! I pulled in and they got me right in and the price was awesome. I normally get a $125 mobil one oil change and they helped me figure out that since I change my oil as recommended its non sense to spend that much on an oil change. $60ish and I was out the door for full synthetic. Best staff too, they didnt talk to me like I was an idiot woman nor did they try to sell me extras. Fast friendly service. This is our new oil change spot!

He explained everything wrong with my vehicle and even offered to show me what was wrong. His warm nature will have me coming back to Merlins for all services. What could’ve been a painful experience (unexpected, significant front-end suspension service) ended up being the most pleasant experience I’ve had with a mechanic. Jerrad and the folks at Merlin have earned a life-long customer.I live in Madison (originally from Loves Park), but I would happily make the hour drive to Merlin for any significant auto service.In short:1. Merlin delivered exactly what they said they would, exactly when they said they would.2. They did it for the exact price they quoted.3. All-in-all, they made us feel comfortable throughout the process.Full story below:We were visiting family in Loves Park for the holidays and brought in our car for a routine oil change. When we dropped off the car, I made mention of a humming noise in the driver’s side wheel well that had been getting worse.After the oil change service, Jerrad (service manager) explained the situation:1. The humming was likely due to worn front wheel bearings. Wear in the left wheel was severe; wear the right was apparent—but not severe.2. The front ball joints and tie rod ends were showing some significant wear—which was an immediate safety concern.Being that I’m not much of a mechanic—and therefore haven’t the best idea of what these repairs should cost—I thanked Jerrad for the quote, went out to lunch, and called my cousin (a mechanic) for his opinion. He reassured me the service was necessary, the quote was fair, and he personally trusted the folks at Merlin. We dropped the car off at Merlin and elected to address everything except the right hub/bearing assembly.Fast forward to the next day: we picked up the car and paid exactly what we were quoted. Traveling down the road, the humming was appreciably quieter but wasnt 100% gone—we were told this might be the case.Admittedly, I am a picky guy. I wanted the hum gone. So I called Jerrad, explained the situation, and asked if it’d be possible to get the right hub/bearing assembly replaced that day (keep in mind that this is a Saturday, 2.5 hours before they close). To my surprise, he said yes and delivered on that promise.Our car is now safe to drive and quiet enough to hear our podcasts, and we only have Jerrad and the folks at Merlin to thank for that.Thanks guys!

Then to top it off the estimate was ridiculous, They tried to charge me $265 for parts, I went to OReillys & bought the same exact parts for $168.. I saved over $200 by buying the parts myself & paying an honest shop to put them on.

Been using Merlin for a couple years. Professional and courteous employees. Dont try to over sell you on services you dont need. This is only place I go for maintenance on our vehicles.

Honestly I have been cornered by the situation my car broke down in a critical time and I was looking for the cheapest and closest auto shop however, I wish I went for my reg shop in DeKalb, I paid $600 for 4 hours of labor as they said which means $150 an hour is insanly high, the parts costs around $230 and I paid $833 however, clean work but I’ll never go againafter fixing my car and going to DeKalb most of the shops told me their labor was between $250-$300 for the exact same type of work

Overpriced arrogant bastards!!!! These stupid sobs charged me $620 for 1 wheel bearing replacement. Gave me a stupid excuse charging for the brake shoe installation. Thats part of the procedure. After paying their ridiculous amount I said please leave the paperwork in the car including the alignment. The idiot filling in for jerred replied what alignment. I told this pinhead to do a damn alignment when I dropped it off. He oppoligizes and knocks off $30 for an alignment he couldnt even perform. Rear bolt is apparently seized. Im now crawling under my car to cut the allegedly seized bolt myself. Its not even hard to access. I hope b.b. gets FIRED!!!!! Oh yeah, the idiot also tried to sell me a set of rear struts saying mine look worn, he noted it in paperwork. I replaced them 2 years ago, and when i asked to see the car on the lift, he changed his mind saying the struts look fine. Took photos(time stamped)showing they arent even rusty yet. From now on, when the weather is too unpleasant and forced have a shop repair my car, Im turning to repairpal dot com. NEVER DOING BUSINESS WITH MERLINS AGAIN!
