Went in search of classic diner food for breakfast and not sure this hit the mark. The coffee is pretty abysmal. I got the country fried chicken, scrambled eggs and a side of pork sausage. It was all just fine - nothing great. My partner got a short stack of pumpkin pancakes, hash browns, eggs over easy and bacon. Service was nice and friendly, food was a bit slow to come out however.
Its so silly that I never went to Du-Pars until recently during the pandemic. Their pies are a hit at every socially-distanced gathering! The coconut cream and blueberry cream in particular are my absolute favorites - both delectable and sure to be a crowd-pleaser. The place has been short-staffed lately (like many restaurants) and yet still, the staff is warm, kind, friendly, and attentive. Du-Pars, its easy to see why youve stood the test of time!
Was CRAVING a Cherry Pie and sent my girlfriend down to grab one. Not only were they out of Everything regarding selection, but the Pies they DID have were severely charcoal emblazoned. THREE DOLLARS FOR A SINGLE DONUT ?? FOUR DOLLARS FOR A MUFFIN??? You people are out of your mind for supporting this nonsense! These guys have not only gone downhill like a freight train - but they took their pricing with them! Friggin insane! $11.95 for a 4 single serving pie?? $15.00 for a Large pie which is literally 8-9 !! (Haaa) Been coming here for 15 years. I am totally 100% done with you guys lunacy. See Ya.
Delicious food. Great service.Went on 8/20/21 in the afternoon (between 5 and 6pm)Had the crab cake eggs benedict, and a HUGE piece of chocolate & walnut brownie, along with some french press.Food took an acceptable amount of time. Coffee had a little mishap (cold water was initially used, by mistake) but as soon as it was mentioned the gentleman helping us brought a new fresh one (this time piping hot, as it should).Lovely experience, would definitely recommend and go back for more.
Im ashamed to admit that I have lived in Southern CA all of my life and this is the first time I have been to Du-Pars. I was missing out big time! I had the French Toast and my boyfriend had the pancakes. They were both so good! The butter was already all melted by the time it came and I LOVE that! Prices are great too! The staff was amazing! So accommodating and helpful. They recommended which pies we might like and that we could buy them at the bakery area behind the restaurant on our way out so we wouldnt have to carry them all day. I cant wait to go back!
Fantastic breakfast, lunch or brunch experience. Ample parking around here if you get here early. Its part of the plaza. The portion sizes are generous and the staff is polite and helpful. We had various versions of the eggs Benedict, Reuben sandwich and omelette and all the food items tasted great! Highly recommend!!
Best best best best best. Even when service is slow cuz theyre slammed or on the extremely rare occasion something has to be sent back for an adjustment, the food is delicious, the staff is friendly, the setting is great. Always get a short stack of the hotcakes for the table. ALWAYS.
So, note these :1. Over the weekend its gonna be crowded plan for that.2. If they suggest you to take a table on the little space on the right of the restaurant say No and wait a bit longer for table inside or outside in patio, you will be abandoned if you took it.The server(the bald gentleman) was rude, never cared. To get a simple pancake and crabcake (pic) it took them 50 minutes, other table who came after us had their food, left by the time we got our food.He never bothered to check on us
Look for: A legendary Los Angeles icon you need to try at least once! Great pies. Fun servers.Location: On the southwestern corner of the Los Angeles farmers market.I had eggs florentine which could have been much better. Ive tried their pies and theyre good.
As with every business, they were short-staffed, so we had to wait about 15 minutes to get seated, but it was worth the wait. They kept our coffee cups full. We ordered a traditional breakfast and a Denver Omelet. The bacon was crisp and the sourdough toast was thick. I cant wait to go back and try their lunch and pastries.
Food was excellent, pancakes 🥞🥞 melt in your mouth, delicious! Need to provide proof of vaccination to dine in doors.
Ive been going to DuPars for probably over 30 years at a number of their old locations. I believe this is the only one left, which is a crying shame, because their food is absolutely delicious. Ive been going to this particular location for at least 15-20 years, and this place was always their best location. Hands down the best pancakes you will ever have anywhere, and the rest of their menu is fantastic as well. Their pancakes are so good that I always get them every time I go, even if I get something else as my main dish. It would be worth paying for a short stack even just to have a couple bites. I cant recommend this place enough. I dont live that close to them anymore, but I still will drive out of my way to go there. Their food is that good.
Wait was a little long (30 min), but passing out water to the people in line was a nice touch. Food was very good (small stack of blueberry pancakes could feed a whole family!). Our server Arturo was attentive and not to overpresent. We will definitely come back to try their mango lemon cheesecake (or whatever else is in season). Thank you Arturo for making our dining experience enjoyable!
Its Dupars! Great! Best pancakes anywhere except VIPS in Tarzana
Always a great breakfast spot! Wish they still had one in Vegas
Wow. These really are the best pancakes in the entire world. I have to imagine it’s made with twice the butter or something, but who cares - they are insanely amazing. This is a “diner” type restaurant so service is going to be polite and friendly but not over the top. Refills were on point and the bacon was perfectly crispy. Seating outside was very nice, although a bit more shade covering would be nice. Walking around the awesome farmers market afterwards is a huge plus - although you will be too full to eat any more!
This place has been here since forever. Decent sitdown diner in a busy area with plenty of booths. Not a fancy expensive menu, just the usual. But the food is good quality, and the staff are courteous & attentive. Outside seating available, but theres a lot of traffic noise. Parking lot is the same lot as Farmers Market, so sometimes parking is crowded.
We ordered the Eggs Benedict (Turkey w/Aclvacado) & Eggs Benedict (Crab cakes) and a stack of pancakes. Walter was our waiter. He was a really nice guy. Thanks for the great service.
We like coming here. First time sitting outside. Food is pretty good
Service was good. Food was decent
I absolutely love Dupars. I had a short stack with extra syrup and butter, with a side of bacon and freshly squeezed orange juice. Yummy!! 😋
Popped in to the shop this morning in looking for a hot meal. Had a long long night and wanted to have good food before I drove 2 hours home. Come in. First guy was polite and replied to everything I asked ND directed me to the seat. On the way I get accosted by this big dude shouting in my face about masks. I wasnt aware your booths had a magic bubble that somehow protects you from a mostly harmless cold. Not sure how he figures the 5 feet from the door to a booth max a difference and the dude was rude as hell in the process. Wont ever get my business and any person that has an ounce of self awareness shouldnt go either. Stop living in fear of your own shadow when your own system can be proven idiotic by simple logic.
Absolutely incredible quality! We ordered lemonade expecting something like a fountain drink cup but were pleasantly surprised by a nicely garnished drink. The food is really good and worth the high cost. Definitely a nice place to go when you want to treat yourself, or take family/friends out to somewhere good.
This is an old school booth seating diner with great breakfast food. I havent been here for lunch or dinner yet, so I cant attest to those menus. The portions are large, and the food tastes great. I personally favor the French Toast (short order is 4 large pieces), which is more savory than sweet.Parking is in the rear and is free to a certain degree, but always check the signs in Pasadena.
I wish I could give Du Pars 5 stars because weve had so many great meals their over the years, but the past couple of times weve gone it hasnt seemed like they were up to their usual standards. The service was definitely not up to par. I dont expect or want a server stopping by every two minutes but when you dont see one for 30 minutes and have to wave one over from across the restaurant to get your check then something isnt right. We got some bad coleslaw and told another server as a heads up. We got a bland Would you like something else?with no apology offered. Granted the pandemic has turned the restaurant industry on its head so Im hoping everything can be attributed to being short staffed and the Du Pars that we know, and love, will be back. We will definitely return in the hope that they get their operation in order again. Theyve been too good over the years not to give them another chance.
The service is fine, the menu: impressive, and my breakfast was fantastic.I ordered eggs benedict with avocado instead of meat. The eggs were cooked to perfection and werent salted (if they were, it was lightly). I prefer to add my own, because so many things are too salty for my taste. The hollandaise could have been a tad more tart for me to call it perfect, but it was very close. The hash browns were as close to perfection as Ive had, nice and crispy, not greasy.Theres a reason this place has been here for 80+ years!
I went here to sample their famous patty melt. Its an item that theyve had on their menu since 1932, so I had pretty high hopes. Side note, home-made ice cream makes for a delicious milk shake. I was actually blown away by their offering there. Add to that the Harris Ranch grain-fed all natural chuck, with hand-formed patties from beef ground on-premise daily, and youre looking at a pretty decadent lunch. This place is all about that old school mom and pop charm. I really dug the vibe. But, as far as the patty melt goes specifically, Im not exactly impressed. Rye was very good, with that classic crunch, and not too firm or soft. Patty was closer to medium rare than the medium I ordered, and a bit bland. Not dry, but not quite juicy either. Overall, pretty solid, but not as memorable as I hoped. Looking forward to returning and trying out the rest of the menu.
VERY busy... SO good. It took quite a while for the food to get to our table but it wasnt because they were doing anything wrong, ALL the servers were hustling as fast as possible while paying attention to all their tables.I had Crabcake Benedict - delicious! Our table of 7 had a great time!
So so sad to see Hamburger Hamlet close up shop here. However, once I learned Du-par’s was taking over, I was relieved. They have always had great omelettes, and their burgers are top notch. What really surprised me was they didn’t even redo the interior, which is so awesome. The best part is, they are open 24hrs.
We went yesterday (Sunday). I was given a menu with the blue plate specials and my boyfriend was given a regular menu. We both opted for Blue Plate #2 only to be told by our waiter that its only available M-F. However, the menu said it was daily. We decided not to do anything about it at that time. We were actually looking forward to some yummy pancakes. We only got 1 little thing of syrup, NO butter. Order 1: short stack and turkey sausage, 1 orange juice; Order 2: short stack, bacon and well done hash browns, 1 coffee. Total with tip: $60.60. WAY TOO MUCH MONEY FOR PANCAKES!!! Im not sure we will EVER go back to Du-Pars.
It was a Saturday morning and we easily got a table. I would have liked a faster coffee service and our order taken. Once food arrived food was delicious. I wanted to try their famous pancakes but it did not wow me and the taste nothing surprising. Our bill came out over 100$ for 4 people. I wish the prices were a little more affordable. Overall good experience and will definitely come here again!
My mom used to stop here when I was a kid and get there killer pies. Im 63 now and there still around first off. Second, its still great!.
Du-pars which opened in LA in the late1930s is a genuine Los Angeles institution. Now theyve added car-hop service at certain hours of late morning and afternoon...check with Du-pars website to ascertain the range of hours for the eat-in- your-car dealsThis popular, casual diner type eatery is a throwback to a simpler, kinder era.Fittingly a large selection of their tasty--if caloric-- menu is what used to be called comfort food.Meatloaf, Fried Chicken+biscuits, Four Cheese Macaroni and Spaghetti-Meatballs are among the daily selections.Breakfast, served all day long is the most popular of Du-pars many yummy offerings. In addition to pancakes and waffles, eggs are a source of numerous creative breakfast turns. Eggs Benedict, Eggs Florentine are both excellent dishes here. Theres even a variation called Salmon Florentine. Other choices include a scrumptious cheese omletteBe sure to save room for a slice of homemade pie-- they prepare almost every flavor pie known-- and dont scrimp on the whipped cream and/or fresh ice cream accompanying it. If you arent craving this particular treat, theres lots of decadent desserts that put the *D* in Du-pars.
Supposedly these are America’s greatest pancakes at Du-Pars. Since 1938, they have churned out their Buttermilk Hot Cakes at this original location near the Farmer’s Market, so I had to have a bite. I ordered a Short-Stack of three Blueberry pancakes, dusted with a bit of powdered sugar and topped with syrup. Simple, delicious, and a bit of real California tradition.A bit pricey at $14, but hey, that’s the price you pay for famous.
Nice outdoor seating. Customer service is great. Good portion for the breakfast pancake.
Quality food. Historic setting. Casual elegance. Order pancakes.
The pancakes are huge, thick and pretty good. I like that they give you melted butter that you can just pour on the pancakes. Overall the pricing for basically diner food is high IMHO. Im not sure what else is worth coming back for besides the pancakes and maybe the pies. Its open 24/7, but service can be slow after hours.
Always a great place to get the best pie....custard egg pie 🥧 is my fav. Followed by banana cream pie.
Food was good, but the stuffed hot cakes are not really stuffed, just a topping on the top cake. Also, good took forever to arrive.
This is a great diner for breakfast lunch and dinner. The best party is it is open 24/7. Food is great there are pancakes before your meal. The pancakes are pretty amazing. The omlettes are pretty salty and it is always busy here. But if you are not in a rush this is a great place to eat. Portions are big enough to share and grab a delicious slice of pie or cinnamon roll afterwards.
Words can NOT describe how scrumptious and delectable the PANCAKES are here!!! I used to come the landmark Dupars in Studio City when I was a kid, and up until its unfortunate closure not too long ago. So, now knowing that they have resurrected like a Phoenix from the ashes at this new location, all of my 5 senses have once again been invigorated!
What can I say, its a diner and it delivers. The prices are pretty reasonable for the neighborhood. I would never pay $15.95 for a patty melt and fries elsewhere. To be honest it was an okay patty melt, not good enough to bring in that price. It gets pretty crowded in the weekend, show up really early or you will wait a while. The pancakes are the star here, they were some pretty good pancakes. Overall everything was pretty good, not great. If you are local, its probably a good spot. My brother wanted to try this place, so we drove out from Rancho Cucamonga. I would not make that drive again, it just isnt good enough to justify it.
This restaurant is very good food and service. I thought the coffee was delish too. We love the farmers market and so this restaurant opens early and is a good way to start your day. Recommended!
Service was great... The kitchen was very slow.
Quality and portion size has decreased since the pandemic. They were out of key items like vanilla ice cream in the middle of the day. Menu and server were both unclear on available sides for entrées. Service was slow and food took a long time to come to the table. Hours on Google differ from their actual hours.
Service was great, food was great...if youre going on the weekend be prepared to wait or get there early, this place is hopping.
Great food and great service! Waiter Jose was very courteous and professional!
The food’s not that great and we waited an hour to get that food. We ordered pancakes and crab cake. The crab cake was horrible and the pancakes were okay.BAD AND RUDE SERVICE.
Great food, great service, great place!Parking was only $5 with validation. So we heard about this place on Bosch (on Amazon Video), and it did not remotely disappoint! The food (we had breakfast) was amazing! There was a small issue with the bill, where we were accidentally charged twice for one of our plates, but it was quickly corrected by our server. All around a great experience!
Food was ok. Service was ok, didnt like being rushed into ordering since they were closing soon. Mels Diner was way better.
My friend kept hyping up how wonderful the pancakes were here, that they didn’t need any butter or syrup... so of course I had to try them. The full stake pancakes only cost a dollar more than the short stack, so of course that’s how they get you to buy the full stack for a better deal, lol.The pancakes took longer than the 10 minutes they said it would take to make. They came out massive, with a cup of melted butter and 2 cups of maple pancake syrup. And the verdict? They tasted plain without toppings. Definitely needed the butter and syrup, lol. The pancakes were fluffy, but not outstanding naked on their own.Turns out the outstanding flavor profile that was hyped to me came from already having butter and syrup drizzled onto the pancakes when they arrived at the table in the restaurant. Lol.
My friend and I waited outside (Free coffee yay!) but saw there were a couple empty tables outside and 15 minutes later, we asked if it was first come first serve since no one was being seated. Secret - tables outside are first come first serve! Score! We sat down right away and had pretty good service from beginning to end.I had the hash florentine benedict while my friend got the garbage plate. I loved the fresh (not canned) corned beef, hash browns were perfectly cooked, and presentation was great! My friend really enjoyed her garbage plate too, but it did take awhile for her side of toast to come out.Overall, great place, plenty of great options and would be back again!
Extra friendly staff! Like very friendly. Prices and selection of sides are straight Du Pars. You go here for quality, like the fresh squeezed oj. I gotta drop a star because there is no restroom.. hm.....
The meatloaf was on point. My daughters medium rare burger was cooked too perfection!
As most others have said, its a good diner choice. Cute place within the even cuter and unique Original Los Angeles Farmers Market. There are two large adjacent lots for the Farmers Market and purchasing anything at any of the establishments within will validate your parking. So thats easy.I had a tuna melt sandwich and fries one recent late-ish weekday lunch. No problems getting a table immediately. Server was truly attentive. Stopping by on instinct whenever something was needed but not being bothersome either. Waited over 20 minutes for my food to come out after ordering but I wasnt in a hurry. Food portion was large and it was tasty but nothing memorable or extraordinary. Didnt have room for dessert, alas, which I assume is Du-pars specialty.Probably wont come back when Im in the Market again only because there are so many other places to try. Also, Du-pars is an expensive place for a diner (as are many other Market places, to be fair).
Our server was friendly, but sorry, this place is average. I would like to give it 2.5 stars. The food was fine but nothing special. It’s a good spot for tourists or showing someone from out of town around because its got some history and you can walk around the rest of the market, but not a place I’d go to regularly. Plus, it’s expensive for what they serve.
If you want the best pancakes, this is where you come. I tried so many good places but Du-pars are still the best - so tender, so buttery. I dont know what they put in them but they are the fluffy stuff of my dreams. And of course, you have to get bacon with your pancakes because the breakfast is not the same without it))
Pancakes are amazing, especially with the accompanying mini tub of melted butter.
Not bad at all i liked the coffee, pancakes and the pies did not like the eggs omelet it was dry for my taste but the hashbrowns where really good flavor and texture the place is a nice place for groups and with fast service and good waitress so i recommend it for breakfast lunch and dinner try thr blueberry pie trust me its really good
Always a great spot for breakfast. Even during the pandemic service and food has been A+
So excited that Du-Pars is open again for indoor dining! The pancakes are amazing, the syrup tastes like caramel, and the orange juice is fresh squeezed. Nothing not to love.
Foods are good but servers aren’t very friendly.
The food was good. I wasmt crazy about it. But it was good .
Ive been going here for years, any time in town. This time, the pancakes, their signature dish, were really off. They didnt taste anywhere near as good as theyve always been.
Went to the original Du-Pars in Farmers Market. Date nut bread and Chopped salad. Good food, great service, much history.
Iconic Los Angeles. Same comfortable, easy going service and american food I have eaten at Dupars for decades. Five stars because of all around staying power.
Food is good, although its reputation is somewhat blown out of proportion. If you are in the area and want to eat at an LA legend, this is a solid option.
Consistently good breakfast food in Los Angeles 3rd and Fairfax Farmers Market. Since CBS Studios is right next door, you never know who youll see enjoying early morning french toast and coffee!
Food was not hot enough. But good. Need more breakfast combos with waffles, hot cakes and French toast.
This old time hangout still continues to be a hotspot on the west side Farmers market Im glad to be back and the pancakes are still awesome service is always good there
I wish I had known prior to me coming here, that they were known for their pancakes and chicken pot pie. I instead, ended up ordering a chicken noodle soup which was good, and I ordered two of their pies. Their pie selection is generous and I was excited to try them, which they definitely held their standard. Their coconut cream and peach pies were delicious, not overly sweet, hit the spot perfectly. Our server, Irving was also very understanding as we did not know what to order at first so him showing patience was considerate and kind of him. I really liked my experience here and I definitely will come back to try their famed chicken pot pie and world best pancakes. Who knows, if they really hold their standard well, they just might be the best pancakes in all of LA. For now, this remains, to be continued.
Good food, great service. Kitchen was really backed up though.
The service is fine, the menu: impressive, and my breakfast was fantastic
Great food, excellent selections. Pancakes to die for!
