Holy hell. If Yelp ever adds the option for more stars I will fly back from Minnesota just to re-review and add more stars. We were staying down the road for a Dodger game and NEEDED a coffee before heading up to Napa. Swork happened to be the closest to our hotel but given the great reviews, I would have gone out of our way to find it.We found street parking easily and were greeted right away by a longer haired barista. I’m really bummed we didn’t catch his name because he really made this experience what it was. The drink menu is extensive with unique coffee and non-coffee drinks without being overwhelming. For food they had a great variety of fresh pastries and bagels and some heartier sandwich style bagels. I knew I’d made the right choice before we even ordered.I got the iced vanilla bean latte (heads up, there is a slight upcharge for iced v. hot drinks) and the avocado bagel while my fiancé ordered a caramel latte and coffee cake. The barista asked if we wanted regular or salted caramel - we didn’t even know that was an option and I’m not sure if it is or if it’s just his own special touch. He even poured a bit into an espresso cup so my fiancé could try it and make sure the sweet/salty ratio was right. Seriously, above and beyond. My vanilla latte was incredible, not too sweet with real vanilla bean. The avocado bagel was the real star of the show. I was expecting a few slices of avocado but when I got it it was overflowing with honestly what felt like a whole avocado. The flavors from the fresh lettuce, tomato, everything seasoning (and is that pesto?!) complemented each other perfectly. I was only able to eat like half of it right away and had to put the other half under the seat to hopefully stay safe and cool so I could come back to it on the road.To summarize: fresh and real ingredients, great variety, welcoming vibes, friendly service, generous with avocado. Is there anything else you could ask for?

Its our last full day in Eagle Rock (Los Angels). We stop by this little corner bistro to have a cup of coffee before our son was dismissed from his last day of STEM class. I was impressed with the class of service we received. As we waited for the time to pass, my eyes kept going back to the smoked salmon bagel. I couldnt resist it any longer. I purchased said bagel, and was blown away. This was the best bagel combo Ive ever eaten in my life. Flavors out of this world, and the smoked salmon was top notch. This is a must stop if youre in this area.

It was about 9:15 am April 10th, 2021, I visited Swork Coffee for the first time Saturday morning with a new friend. She had raved about their coffee and I was excited to try it out.We were excited when we walked in as it’s only our third date plus that combined with the wonderful pastry selection displayed in front of us made it extra fun.She was having trouble reading the menu as she forgot her reading glasses so I ordered my Americano and helped her read the selection of teas from the menu. She proceeded to place her order, my date has an accent and the young lady behind the counter was having difficulty hearing her order. My gal pulled her mask away (not down) from her face so she could be better heard and the staff member immediately interrupted by snapping at her telling her “You need to put your mask back on!”Strike one. There is a huge piece of plexiglass in-between the two of them, making hearing more difficult to hear and I guess offering a layer of extra protection. My friend was taken aback by the employees shortness she asked if I could place her order for her. So I did. We then ordered some pastries to go with our drinks, beautifully fresh blueberry danishes. It clearly felt as if the female staff member was annoyed or even inconvenienced by having to help us. It was very rude.A few minutes later, as I was grabbing our coffee and tea at the pick-up bar from the same female employee, she turned to her co-worker and said “I don’t know if they want their pastries warmed up.” Never once having the inclination to ask the customer who was standing right in front of her what his preference was.I looked at her and said. “Yes, we would like those warmed up thank you.” She clearly did not want to be bothered with customers.Strike two.Once we sat and had a little private talk about how unnecessary the behavior we had just experienced was, then we sipped our coffee, and tea which like my new friend said were wonderful. And the pastries were absolutely delicious. My date was raving about the tea so I walked over to ask if they sold it in either loose-leaf or in tea bags so I could buy her a gift to take home with her. The young man didn’t understand what I was trying to ask as he was clearly new and hadn’t learned about everything Swork has to offer, so he asked the barista about my request. The barista came over and addressing the new team member pointed at the tea menu and told him that everything the customer needed to know was right there on the menu stuck to the plexiglass. I had to capture the barista’s attention and clarify I wasn’t ordering tea I was asking if I could buy some to prepare at home later. He said no.It was as if he also wasn’t interested in interacting with the customers and certainly wasn’t being extra helpful at first as any decent experienced staff member needs to be to help out a new co-worker get it right.Right about the same time, the first young lady who snapped at us walked by behind me out in the main seating area and not once offered to assist me in my request. Another clear sign that she didn’t want to be there on a Saturday morning.Strike three.I guess the fault is management, who is either leading by example, making it ok for their staff members to behave the way they did, or they are simply not around enough to properly train their staff to offer customer service that is on par with the quality of their offerings, ambiance, and location.Left alone my date and I had a lovely conversation, admiring the space, the treats, and enjoying our time together. It’s experiences like this that make me not want to return to a business.I won’t be back anytime soon, even though my Americano and pastry were great and my new girl lives less than a mile from Swork. That’s the power of first impressions.

Awesome spot to get work done & yummy coffee - really enjoyed my experience at Swork!I came around 4 in the afternoon on a Sunday and the place was packed. Luckily I was able to snag a table when someone left. The majority of people there were all studying or doing some kind of work. I like environments like these since the people around me will motivate me to stay focused. The interior was clean and it had overall good vibes. As for their menu, I appreciated the fact that they had a diverse selection of lattes. Im always interested in trying specialty lattes and this place delivered. I ended up getting a hot Mexican Mayan Mocha latte with soy milk (note, soy is an extra $1). The coffee was delicious. The chocolate flavor was subtle, so it didnt taste super sweet. The only thing I would want next time is to have the coffee made a bit hotter, as it was made on the warmer side. Im super eager to come back and try their other lattes!

I used to live down the street from SWORK back in 2001 and I was here for the grand opening. I ordered a Mexican Mayan frappe 😋 it was so good I loved it!!! I ordered it everytime. It was my favorite drink for the 9 years I lived down the street. I came back yesterday to visit family that still lives in this neighborhood and I stopped in with my little girl and I ordered a decaf mexican mayan. Wow 😲, how disappointing! Barista woman got bothered and responded with...this is not Starbucks!! Im aware I said... Once I tasted it...I knew it wasnt the same. Its so watered down tasteless and they dont use the original chocolate shavings like before, and then our straws split halfway through our drinks😞😞. What happened to SWORK??!! Bad service, cheap straws, and the best mexican mayan frappe is no good. Oh well, I still have many great memories here😌 Ill keep. Happy New Year 🎉!

Cannot say enough about this place. Conveniently located in great neighborhood. Accessible free parking every time, if you dont mind walking a block or two. Loads of flat service with many outlets. A friendly staff that is obviously underemployed because they are all smart and fun to talk too. Great salads and pastries (gluten free blueberry and chocolate muffins!), fresh-squeezed orange juice, all types of alternative milks, homemade soups in the winter. Sandwiches, too. All fresh made daily. Creative environment - not Grand Central Station like any given Starbucks. Close to Trader Joes and Sprouts, a library, churches, a farmers market and great inexpensive restaurants. The traffic in this neighborhood is lively, but never horribly stressful (like Glendale.) All of L.A. should be like Eagle Rock - wed all be nicer. I get work DONE here. Swork - what would I do without you?

I write for a music and coffee blog called Crooners In Coffeeshops, in which I interview local musicians at local coffeeshops. My writeup reflects the positive experience that I encountered at Swork on our interview date. A huge thank you to the amazing Patricia for allowing us to film our interview there!Eagle Rock’s original coffee bar Swork is a prime (and successful) example of one woman’s motivation to bring the joy of coffee to a neighborhood lacking non-chain options. Patricia was tired of fighting the constant L.A. traffic for a good cup of joe, and from there, Swork was conceived, and she was determined to make sure the shop became a local staple in its hometown. She combined her already established entrepreneurial skills with her coffee crash course from training with Intelligentsia Coffee in both Guatemala and in the space that became Swork’s home, and with impressive efforts has happily been in business since 2001. Not bad for a little dream of opening up a local coffee bar, right?!?Swork’s incredible story is not the only thing that makes the shop special. They’re not only the first coffeeshop to provide a kid-friendly playspace for visiting families, but also the first to have dedicated computer workspaces for business-focused coffee lovers to be able to get some work done without being accused of mooching of their free wifi. They’re very welcoming of their community, and it’s showcased in their choice of classic interior, warm color scheme, and a variety of fan favorite food and beverage recipes. I strongly recommend the Swiss Latin Latte if you’re a fan of creamy and decadent drinks, and since I’m a nut for pastries, their fresh-made waffles make for a perfect pairing with pretty much any coffee option available.

Fortunately Husby traded with me and whatever he got was fresh and tasty. Maybe a little on the pricey side but not unduely so.The coffee is pretty good. Ive gotten a not amazing cappuccino and a very amazing iced specialty drink (Swiss velvet? Something like that? It was excellent.).Theres usually parking at meters around the block. Lots of tables usually mostly full but Ive always found a spot. Nice restrooms with changing table (hallelujah! Says the new parent who never thought about changing tables till a year ago)! What a delightful little life can be had in Eagle Rock. We may happily amble around in the sweet perpetual sunshine with strollers and yoga mats and real and honest smiles as the world saunters away its time like a brazen waterfall. So in a place that offers such a dreamy reality there must be a shop that sells beverages to match. They sell drinks that are extortionately expensive and you feel a little packed in when its busy but thats what its about here at Swork. Its like the outside inside. With its hanging light bulbs and communal toilet key swinging like a germ trap in the fridge. But it is nice! Its the best coffee shop around because its what you expect. Its wanting to be what you want. My last criticism is that no one has ever cleaned the wires that the lights hang from and there is a pretty grimey film of dancing dust hanging over everyones drinks. Clean the wires and it will be a 5 star!

There are better options nearby. Lets start with this: it literally costs $5 for an iced coffee. This place has gotten a significant noselift but get ready for inconsistent, mismatched pricing. I tried ordering an iced Americano but it cost more than a large latte. The staff is nice but the chairs are uncomfortable. If youre looking for hip but with drinks worthy of the cost, youll be better off with Civil Coffee. I love independent coffee shops. They all seem to do something a little different to set themselves apart. One of the non-coffee things that Swork does is to have a kidspace for children to spend safe, nurturing time with their coffee-loving adult companions. At the end of day, though (nay, beginning), you want a solid product. Swork specializes in distinctive flavors and milk ingredients, offering a wide variety of options for hot and cold beverages. Today, I was fortunate enough to spend a couple of hours there and had both a cold brew and an iced Americano. Both of them tasted great. The environment is conducive to getting work done (if thats your thing), or just relaxing with some friends. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and they have a great spot right on the corner.
