Cute place for some great breakfast, me and my wife recently moved to Long Beach and while exploring our neighborhood we came across this place and it was great. The food was perfect, I loved my breakfast egg and bacon sandwich and my wife loved her avocado toast, the mocha iced drink was very small tho and the price for 2 mocha drinks + the food came up to nearly $40 so I would say this place is quite pricey but nonetheless very good !!

This cafe is beautiful and they have a delightfully unique coffee menu! I had the iced basilfruit coffee; it was wonderfully refreshing. The basil versus coffee flavors were perfectly balanced. I adore basil, but I’ve never seen it in coffee before.The cafe is thoughtfully decorated and the staff members are really friendly. All around great coffee shop!

This review is for the drink only, which I got to-go. I had never gotten a charcoal coffee before and I shouldnt have tried one that day. I went off of the baristas recommendation (he was super friendly, by the way) but unfortunately, this drink was just not good and definitely not worth the price. I for sure will not be trying a charcoal drink from anywhere else ever again. The atmosphere of the place seemed nice, but cant comment on that much since I didnt stay.

I will never walk back in this place. I really hate leaving bad reviews but being respectful isn’t that hard. Extremely unwelcoming barista. After I ordered 2 men walked in asking for iced drinks and the barista told them she ran out of ice (mind you I got an iced drink).I understand you may be closing in 10 mins but it doesn’t mean that you should be unwelcoming or treat someone like they don’t belong. Any other person would have complained but they just said okay and purchased something else. If you wanna close the store 10 mins early just adjust the closing time accordingly.

Good coffee and avocado toast. The oatmeal we ordered was disappointing. It felt like a congealed lump of ready made oatmeal.

Vegan donuts are amazing, simply delicious. The coffee is a little strong for my taste, but I drank it. Great after taste. Worth the visit.

This coffee shop has such a cool and laid back vibe going for it. its in a great location as well. i got a barista recommendation of a coffee from ethiopia (iced) and i enjoyed every sip. i let them know i didnt want my coffee too sweet and they picked a great option for me. if im in the area, id definitely like to return and get a pastry and try another coffee as well.

There was only one barista and watching her was fun. This seems like a real coffee shop, much better than Starbucks but I guess its not for us. The coffee was only ok. We also bought a whole bean bag, not much flavor. I didnt get any food because it all had condensation on it like it was just taken out of a freezer, not fresh but its a coffee place so that doesnt matter

Small and cozy coffee shop providing a comfortable place to work or just hang out and foremost fair-trade coffee. They have an interesting coffee selection. I had the Iced honey vanilla latte that is worth a try. It tastes smooth and not too sweet. They have the same as a hot latte which myfriend got. They have vegan donuts and otherwise a good selection of pastries. I liked the chocolate chip muffin, simple and fresh taste!

High quality coffee drinks made by friendly baristas who know what they are doing. There are a couple of tables inside and an outdoor seat. The prices are pretty typical of the area; you could probably get a cheaper cup in DTLB but not the same level of quality as this place. Fast Wi-Fi available, if you care about that.

Decent coffee. Nice decor with exposed brick wall and wood beam ceiling. Barristas are using organic milk for making lattes. Cudos to them. The organic milk almost justified the $4.50 price tag for a cup of latte.

All of the employees were so friendly! They greeted everyone with a warm welcome with a smile! The coffee was amazing. I ordered the seasonal gingerbread latte. It comes with the little cookie, so cute! Recreational is the perfect coffee shop to study at.

Great latte with oat milk. I tried the Kouign Amann but its way too sticky and sweet - nothing like your authentic flaky ones! Also, there are flies in the pastry box... Its kind of disgusting...There are a lot of outlets and fast WiFi for work, but the music is way too loud. Definitely bring your headphones here.

Tried Guatemalan coffee with vegan donuts after lunch. Their coffee menu was interesting as each slow drip coffee comes with at least two different flavors, such as blue berries, honey, and so on. Coffee was solid but I couldnt tell a difference from traditional coffee. The pink vegan donut was surprisingly tasty and lighter than normal donuts. I wish the place had more small tables as many individual customers were taking the whole table.

Bacon and Egg sandwich with a Kenya Kathakwa Slow Coffee, which as far as I can tell is a pour over. The sandwich was excellent with fresh ingredients and the coffee was rich and full of flavour. Love the style inside this little red brick interior cafe and the music provides a nice modern vibe. Will definitely be back next time I’m in town.

None of that What do you want to drink? accompanied by a blank stare. Their glass beakers and slowly brewed coffee technique all create an exceptional cup of coffee.During the visit, ordered the bacon and egg brioche bun sandwich accompanied by their hazelnut latte. I love that they dont skimp out on their bacon and the siracha ketchup adds to the flavor of the sandwich. The latte was perfectly crafted without the overly syrupy/sugary hazelnut addition like other coffee shops. If youre searching for a good old-fashioned black coffee minus the sugar+milk, their expressos are simply lovely! I cant wait to return to this coffee shop to try their highly regarded expresso shake (expresso with ice cream) and donuts.

Went in on a Saturday morning and it was so relaxed, the rush started coming in a bit more past 10 am but still not crazy busy!The coffee was five stars. The food was five stars. This place has some experimental coffee with classical ones as well. Cappuccino was exquisite! It was clean but still keeping the richness. Strongly recommended place.

This is a very nice coffee shop with house roasted beans and good drinks. Not a lot ton of space inside, it was pretty busy when we came in on a late Sunday morning but there was still room for everyone. They move quickly, especially with all the pour over drinks they make for people.

Great coffee, food, ample space, and chill vibes. Everything, as a food place it is amazing. But, we all know people will come here to work, and have meetings. That’s a given for a coffee shop. The only reason why I am giving it 3 stars is literally because the music is so loud. What is this, a club? 😂 I can barely hear myself think at times. I love finding a breakfast spot while traveling. I want a good breakfast, something tasty! Inside was modern and cool, simple and relaxing. They had a good amount seating for a coffee shop.They had several kinds of donuts right on the counter next to the register. They also had some other baked good there, including some doggie treats, I assume they are dog friendly?I ordered iced latte, donut, and a breakfast sandwich. Since the sandwich is made to order, I got the donut and coffee first.Iced Latte with organic almond milk was quite tasty, really good espresso and the almond milk was perfect. Yum! The donuts were vegan donuts! I ordered Vegan Mint Chocolate Donut, which was like a cake donut. The donut was very moist and fresh, dough-y yet fluffy. Winner! Bacon and Egg Sandwich was a nice size sandwich, a slightly bigger than I thought it would be. I enjoyed this sandwich, it was delicious!This was a nice breakfast, chilled and relaxed atmosphere, with friendly and polite staffs. The breakfast was super filling and all very tasty! I recommended this spot to my co-worker, and he tried out a few days later. He also had a good experience from here, I am glad my recommendation was a hit!

My favorite coffee shop in all of Long Beach. They serve up some of the best beans you can get, they have delicious food, and the place is great for working. They don’t have a ton of space but you can usually get a table. I’ve spent hours buying drinks and working. And now they just sold a bunch of their bags for $10!? And a bunch of their food/milk/etc? Amazing place.

Their Guatemala coffee was REALLY good. Aside from a slightly sour taste during the very last sip, it maintained the listed hints of flavor throughout. It was never too strong either, keeping a delicate and refreshing flavor. I know a lot of people who would never imagine drinking coffee black, and THIS is the one I would suggest for first-timers.Their double chocolate muffin was exactly what youd expect from a double chocolate muffin, but their veggie quiche with eggplant (it had never occurred to me that it was possible. Inspired!) and bell peppers was amazing. The egg of it had a full and warm fluffiness and flavor to it that the tender vegetables worked harmoniously with. The crust was also delicate and flaky, so it was everything one could ever want in a quiche.

My absolute favorite coffee place in Long Beach. The breakfast sandwich was phenomenal and the coffee is always exceptional.

If you want great coffee, stop by Recreational Coffee, this place is amazing. Its got a great interior vibe, rustic and exposed brick and steel. The coffee options are interesting and unique compared to your average coffee shop. The staff have always been helpful and are knowledgeable of the available coffee roasts and brewing methods. Its always a treat stopping and enjoying their latest brew. Highly recommend this place for any coffee lover.

Strike out on several levels. First positives. The lemon poppy donut was delicious. Ambiance is cute. Dog bowl and treats, cute. Now for the rest of it. My man had the black iced coffee, it was bitter with a tart aftertaste. I had an iced coffee infused with grapefruit juice and basil, it was a tiny drink that was mostly ice. You can definitely taste the grapefruit and basil, I didnt dislike it but after two sips, it was gone. We also ordered an avocado toast and added bacon to it. It took 10 minutes to get, when they served it, it had no bacon. It took an additional 13 minutes to get bacon put on it. We were thinking they were loading it up with bacon since it was taking so long. It was ONE piece of bacon, cut into 6 squares, split between the two pieces of toast. Overall, it was an average avocado toast. They gave us a coupon for a free drink when they brought the toast out. We left it at the table.

My wife is out here for work so I tagged along to have a little vacation sans kids. Shes vegan and we live in the Midwest where vegan dining options are few and far between. I on the other hand I am a meat and potatoes guy so I never have a problem finding good food.I love that out here, she has so many dining options. And they are tasty and original vegan options. Ive even chosen some as my meals over meat. Crazy!We found Recreational Coffee for breakfast, this morning. We ate vegan donuts, and an amazing avocado mash (minus the pesto) w/ sprouts on toast (I of course added bacon to mine 😉). My coffee and her vegan Matcha Latte were wonderful, too. 😋

This is a relatively new shop that is in the space where Nix Check Cashing used to be. The building is older style architecture and is right across the street from The old Acres of Books building. It is also 2 doors down from a wonderful classic building from the 1920s, the golden era of Long Beach.They have delicious items on the menu for breakfast and lunch and they also have Vegan donuts if you just want a snack with your coffee. They also have pour-over rigs for making individual servings of coffee.MDK
