Great coffee and even better baked goods! Came here to relax, enjoy some coffee, and eat some delicious food. This place does not disappoint! It was very busy, but I didnt let that ruin first time here. I will definitely be coming back to try something new. So many choices! The breakfast burrito was delicious!
Was our first time but I was SHOCKED by how happy the people behind the counter were! Super friendly and happy to be there. I even asked the guy who runs the place how he manages to hire such happy people and still charge less for his coffee, which by the way was also delicious. Their baked goods are also ridiculously good as well. Cant say enough good about the place, you will love it, go try it! Ive already been back.
Phenomenal. The only thing better than the service here is the coffee. Employees have always been top notch and very helpful with menu suggestions and making great coffee. They use Messenger Coffee (a local brand) which favors a lighter body and excellent notes beneath the coffee flavor. I prefer takeaway since its usually pretty crowded but I love to stick around when theres room to sit. Keep up the great work!!
Really wanted to try this place. Drove all the way here to try it. Brought the whole family. We were incredibly disappointed to see you wouldnt let us in without wearing a mask! Completely ridiculous that you are still hung up on this senseless, virtue signaling policy.
Coffee was great as always. Very high percentage of mask wearing (Oct 2021)! And outdoor seating still available.
So this place has become my home away from home when I need to get out. Being connected to a bakery has meant that everything Ive eaten there has been incredible. Everything Ive tried tastes fresh. 10/10 would recommend one of their croissants.I prefer my coffee cold and the cold lattes have been amazing. Ive tried 3 different varieties and they were all flavorful. None of them (Ive gotten 6 total now I think?) tasted burnt or too bitter. The one hot latte I got was also solid. There are power strips set up around the place and they have comfortable seating in a variety of styles.Plus, friendly staff, quick service and a wide variety of menu options. I keep saying I should try someplace new, but I keep finding myself back here.
I love this place! To find sourdough bread baked the way it should be is such a treat! High quality food and coffee.
My experience at Black Dog was excellent! The chai tea latte was one of the best Ive ever had, and the pastries are unique and equally delicious. The urban vibe of the restaurant is refreshing, and this aesthetic produces an ideal environment for social gatherings. I also appreciated the friendly, outgoing nature of my server. Great shop! :)
The coffee here is excellent! I live up North and work downtown so I dont have any purpose in being in this area but I will stop here anytime I am visiting JoCo. They have plentiful tables on the sidewalk, they are really doing a good job of social distancing, and they were cleaning constantly the whole time I was in there to get a to-go coffee. Customer service was great. They have accessible parking and entry.
You know its a nice place when you can taste the ingredients in the baked goods. Im from out of town and Id be happy to come back to go here. The people here are so nice. The coffee is amazing too!
Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, and delicious chai. Ill definitely be returning!
Good coffee, good service. Slightly crowded, and easy to see why!
Coffee is absolutely amazing, environment is flowing with energy and inspiration. Live music nights make this the best coffee house on KC for a great night out with family and friends.
Great local coffeehouse. They get their beans from Messenger, and we love taking home their whole bean coffee bags to brew at home. The drinks here are exceptional and the food was great as well. Highly recommend checking it out.
Love this cute coffee shop. Lots of indoor seating and wifi available. Outdoor seating as well. Love that they have the ibis bakery. I had the cranberry walnut toast with almond butter and honey and a marshmallow latte. Everything was delicious!
We’ve been here many times now and truly love it. Housed with a bakery, this place always has delicious bakery samples out (sooo good!!) as well as delicious coffee. The atmosphere is very comfortable, and the staff are always super welcoming and friendly. Service is quick and the food is AMAZING!! I can’t stress the quality of everything. Black Dog is now our favorite hangout, and we crave their French toast every morning now haha! 😋☀️
Good drinks and awesome breakfast! Nice environment. Met here for a work Meeting that could of been held in a more private setting but all in all great spot👍🏼
My granddaughter & I stopped in for a tasty treat (banana bread & a blackberry citrus loaf), along with two green tea drinks. It was busy, people talking while eating, & had nice selections available. We will return!
Sad to see such an awesome coffee shop get turned on its head by the new corporate owners. They used to have the best biscuits and gravy in the city and now its a completely different recipe with rock hard biscuits (they used to be flaky and melt in your mouth) the french toast used to have a ton going on and now its basic french toast, some berries and whip cream. I smell profit margin increases if you ask me. The local feel is gone. Even the OG employees are all gone. Sad days. Time to find another favorite shop before someone changes whats working again.
Used to be my favorite spot but the last few visits were weird. It’s always been out of the way for me and I can’t see driving out so far anymore considering. Kind of a bummer. Not sure what changed but the service has been somewhat hostile lately. We were purchasing a bad of coffee and asked for a pour over to be made from the bag since they didn’t have this particular one available that day. The barista barked at us that it would still be full price for the bag and the pour over which is fine I guess (typical, anyway) but they made us feel like making the coffee we wanted was some kind of inconvenience. This used to be a cool spot for the coffee enthusiasts but not lately.
I went there to get bakery goods rather than a meal or coffee. I bought a loaf of bread and a variety of pastries. The pastries included chocolate croissants and apple financiers. The latter is a quick bread in an individual serving. Both were excellent. I also bought chocolate rye oatmeal cookies. They had a crisp exterior and a fudgy interior. Pure bliss. The chocolate flavor lasted for a long time after I finished eating one. I bought a loaf of multigrain artisanal bread. It too was first rate. This was my 3rd visit and I very been well pleased each time. Try to get there before noon for the widest selection.
Good place to hangout with friends or to do your work. I had a chai tea latte and it was awesome. Had a great time.
Amazing coffee place. Great latte. The milk/foam is on point.
Seems like a solid coffee shop. I’m not much of a coffee drinker, but the non-coffee drinks are good. Apple cider and pumpkin spice sort of stuff. They have a good smoothie too. I probably enjoy their food more than anything. The pastries are fantastic and the breakfast sandwich is solid. The place has coffee shop vibe, so expect plenty of hip 20-somethings to be hanging out. Similar to most coffee shops, it’s a premium experience, so the pricing reflects that.
I was made aware of this place when a friend brought me a piece of the cranberry walnut toast made by Ibis Bakery. It was probably the thickest and tastiest piece of toast Ive ever had! I visited today and got the same thing, and it was just as good. I also ordered the toasted marshmallow latte, which was not as impressive... It was good as far as lattes go, but I couldnt taste any flavoring in it whatsoever. The atmosphere was what you would expect for a coffee house, only bigger and busier. There were a lot of people in there studying with books and computers, too. Not a bad experience overall. Id like to go back and try some of the other pastries and drinks.
Absolutely love this place! Would give 10 stars if possible! Youll love anything you get but I highly recommend the Shatto mocha!
Love everything about this place. Great sandwiches, and super bakery items. Super staff, parking is a challenge when busy
Great atmosphere. Ibis bakery. Great coffee. Friendly staff.
Had a unique seasonal smokehouse coffee and found it to be surprisingly enjoyable for a coffee with BBQ inspired spices. The pastry selection was just as delicious as it is beautiful.
Homely little coffee shop. Would recommend.Messenger Coffee owns this now, I think. Im not coffee expert, but I generally like what Ive had from Messenger and enjoyed this little coffee shop as well. They have an attachment right next door (as in, you can walk between the two from inside) to the Ibis Bakery - I cant comment on the bakery products since I didnt have them but they sure did smell good.
I love black dog coffee. One of the best places to go for anytime. I just have to make sure to get there early before the cheese slipper loaves are all sold out. Best bread there is.
I live very close to this place. I go there to enjoy the place with a cup of coffee and a croissant. I requested them to warm up my croissant but I was advised to take that home and warm it up there because they didnt have microwave or anything where they can do that for me. Hahaha, funny. In other words, I was told to buy a container of croissant from any grocery store, make a cup of coffee at home and stay there to enjoy my time.Very sad to see how they treat their customers :(
A must-stop now when Im visiting. Coffee hits the spot every time and I appreciate how many vegan alternatives they have and how helpful the staff is. I take home some bread every time--most recently the rosemary polenta sourdough, INSANELY delicious.
Order the Shatto cold brew (made with local Shatto milk) and you cant go wrong. Ibis bakery is also part of the operation and the bakes are delicious!
Always top notch coffee. great espresso shots. the line can be long but its with
Back room was freezing. Service was excellent
Pastry didnt have much filling, but good flavor. A bit overpriced for what you get.
I usually enjoy this coffee shop; however, recently had a very unpleasant experience. First of all, their online ordering platform is not good. Instead of putting you in the current queue, they push your order out 30 minutes no matter what. Now this wouldnt be a huge deal except, it doesnt clearly state that, which can cause timing issues when in a rush. Second, when I went in to collect the order and noticed it wasnt ready, I asked when of the workers what our position in the queue was, and she was pretty darn rude in how she responded. I understand if theres nothing she is able to do to change the line, but the way in which she responded was incredibly poor. Thankfully I was able to ask another worker to cancel my order and he was pleasant, but the experience itself left a sour taste in my mouth.
Great coffee and friendly baristas. Their Shatto Mochas are fantastic, as are the oat milk ones.
This is an amazing place. The crowd is gracious and practices social distancing and most people still wear a mask. The coffee is wonderful but I had an excellent chai tea latte that I would highly recommend.
A little too fancy for my tastes, these days, but i got a decent latte. Ill have to try the bread next time. More comfortable than it used to be, but still... fancy.
Good chai tea and great place for group meetups.
The breakfast burritos were tasty, but a bit too spicy.
The pastries here are phenomenal! Many of them are even gluten free and some of them are dairy free as well.
Love this coffee shop! Every time we come to Costco we stop by. The lattes are yummy and baked goods superb.Delicious!!!
They have fabulous european bread! Pastry looked great but I went there after lunch so I didnt get it. Instead, my friend and I got Earl grey eclair and lemon tart with ice coffee. The filling of the eclair was so good with just enough of sweetness. And the shell was perfect! I cant wait to go back to try their food and pastry next time! Personally I think it is better than the bakery at the river market. :)
Spectacular coffee with a great environment the baristas are so kind they should be making more money!!!
Used to be one of our favorite places before they were bought out. Under new management now and the quality has diminished. A lot of the warmth and atmosphere is gone. The original Blackdog crew is still great though.Still a good place to get coffee though, just sad to see it change.
Black Dog is one of my favorite spots! I Love everything I’ve ever had, drinks and foods. The best baked goods. The highlight for me is always the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits are one of the best and the gravy is sooo delicious. I get excited for the B&Gs every time!! Thank you for existing.
Good food and drink and the workers are nice not too pricey and its not crowded
Friendly staff + delicious coffee + shared space with a bakery = a great choice
Quick and friendly service. Good espresso drinks and all the pastries I have tried have been excellent.
No mask mandate in Johnson County yet they will refuse to serve you without a mask, yet once you’re seated you can remove the mask.
Liked the ease of getting quick breakfast and connected Bakery store as well. Good sitting arrangements inside and outside.
Great spot, kicked someone out due to no mask which is awkward to see, more so the business than the person.
Consistently good for meeting up with clients
Great bakery items and plentiful. Oh and the coffees not bad either.
My favorite local coffee shop. Great coffee. Great atmosphere.
Super delicious cookies and cinnamon rolls. Great place for coffee and desserts.
Delicious coffee and yummy avocado toast. A few “hidden” spaces to curl up in and work or zone out in.
Love this place! They have outside seating and a lot of indoor seating. The coffee is great and food is good too. Kind of pricey though.
Lovely service and those croissants and beyond amazing. Taste buds are grateful
Excellent pastries and coffee, best Ive had in KS.
Smoothies are really good.Place smelled amazing as soon as I walked in
Man oh man I love this place. The coffee is so good that I have probably visited Black Dog over 100 times in the 3 years I have lived here. The only slight minus I could possibly give them is that if you buy their entree items, don’t expect a large portion. It is tasty, but not insanely filling!
I recently moved here to be closer to family and I wanted to try out some local places. I am absolutely in love with Black Dog. Best coffee and cafe. So happy to have found a place so close to my new home.
Love this place! You must visit if ever in Lenexa or in the Kansas City area. Its a quick drive off of i35 or i435. Blackdogs is very trendy! The coffee is amazing- I always get the blended snickers. The food, staff, and environment is all great! If you visit often there is also a buy 10 get one free card!
Coffee and food are absolutely delicious and they make coming here worth it, despite the unpleasant experience.I ordered ahead of time thinking I could swing by and pick up my food and coffee easily without having to wait in line on a busy morning. Well, the online instructions tell you to tell the barista you have an online order, so this was kind of annoying as it made it pointless to order ahead of time. So, I stood in what I thought was a line to tell the barista, but since theres no clear indication of where a line should go, I stood there for 5 minutes when people formed another line elsewhere, and then had to get behind people who came in way after me just to tell them I was there to pick up my online order. My food was ready and brought out, but the worker walked away before I could even ask where to get my online order, even though she saw that she was handing me a to-go order and could have easily communicated to the baristas to save me the trouble. Then, I finally get up to the counter and the employee getting pastries who had been so friendly to everyone before me just stood there, didnt ask me if I wanted anything or what I needed. So I just said I wasnt getting pastries, I had an online order with coffees for pickup that I was waiting for. She asked if I checked the to-go counter, which I had no idea even existed because the instructions clearly say to go tell the barista to pick up your order. They then finally got my order packaged up and at the end of the bar, 15 minutes after my quoted ready time and 45 minutes after I had ordered it. Very frustrating experience, I understand being busy but staff was unhelpful, directions were unclear, and I could have gotten my food and drinks faster if I had just ordered there I think. Please make directions better/clearer and have a better process for pickup orders.
Ok guys, I just had a cinnamon roll that basically transported me out of my body and to a magical place. I’m NOT exaggerating. The fluffyness of the dough and how it’s slightly sweet on its own, then the icing - I think there’s nutmeg or, like, unicorn magic in there...it was PHENOMENAL. Keep doing what you guys do! Thanks for making my Saturday morning!
Great coffee beans. Makes the best coffee!
Black dog coffee has always been a little bit of an oasis for me. The staff are always so friendly, and go out of their way to be friendly to you as well. I will say I do like it a little bit more now that the tables are gone due to Covid, however I do feel bad and hope they’re still getting plenty of business. But it is quieter and the food is just as good as always. I highly recommend you get the grilled cheese with tomatoes on it it is some thing that is honestly life.
Im going to have to give this place 5 stars because of one thing...a un-pronounceable, yet mind-blowing pastry that I spontaneously ordered with my coffee. That being said, huge mistake going here in the first place. I thought it would be a treat for my elderly fathers bday but boy was I wrong!!! He wouldnt stop going on about how Panera was better🙄
Excellent bakery and coffehouse. Great service. Nice patio, pefect hangout.
Excellent latte and the pasties were fantastic!
