While visiting Kalispell for the month of August, it was important to me to have my car serviced prior to departing for 2 weeks of sightseeing on my way home to the desert. Northwest Automotive was very professional and performed the service quickly. They did a complete check up on my Jeep while doing the oil change. I was impressed at their attitude since they knew from looking at my license plate, that I would not be a returning customer.

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. I have been taking my 06 jeep liberty there for over a year with an array of different engine things that are starting to happen now that it is over a 150k in mileage. They are always accommodating with my work schedule and always fix whatever is going on. My latest issue came with an expensive solution but they were able to come up with an alternative solution that fixed the problem, cost less and getting my jeep back the same day. Highly recommend them!

We had our car dropped off there to be repaired and the technicians left it unlocked on side of road for several days. When we went to pick it up, our car had been vandalized. Several items were stolen. The management didn’t take any responsibility. Be careful. They are also really pricey. RESPONSE TO OWNER’S Response: I find it funny that you have now changed your story to blame tow truck driver. You confirmed to me that received the key from tow truck driver and you stated you locked the car. The crazy thing about a lie is when you tell one you always have to tell another one to cover that one. You are unprofessional because my attorney states YOU ARE responsible for cars left in your care. You also admitted that you were responsible for making sure calls are locked. Instead of apologizing you want to point the blame which is why you have this bad review. You need to learn customer service skills as this could have been avoided. Stop accepting cars and leaving them on the streets for them to be vandalized. I will make sure to tell the tow truck driver you are now blaming him so he can stop referring you business. He was nice enough to refer you and this is how you treat him in return. You admitted that the key was handed to YOU. THERE ARE SEVERAL WITNESSES WHO HEARD YOU SAY YOU RECEIVED THE KEY. NOW WHY DIDNT YOU LOCK THE CAR? Why was car left on streets for two days and not in your garage?

I called with a question about my battery/alternator (😭😭) at 3pm, and was given a time slot to come in at 4. They let me know they could do an electronic service test for $29.99 and we could go from there! Within 45 minutes they were able to find the root of the problem (loose negative cable on battery) and fixed the issue at no extra cost (just the service fee)! Very pleasant interactions on the phone and in person, and an excellent waiting room with free WiFi! If Im back in the Kalispell area, Ill definitely return!

There should never be a question on what mechanic people go to when it comes to Northwest Automotive, my Subaru has just a couple times needed Northwest Autos love, and each time Ive been not just satisfied, with the quick turnaround, but treated with the friendly, home-feel that you just dont get anywhere else. If you are looking for a shop with righteous, honorable owners and workers, this is the place to visit. They are straightforward, no nonsense, do it right people that seem genuinely to care .I am from out of state and shortly after arriving in town, I noticed a coolant leak on my 2000 Land Rover Discovery. I wasn’t too pleased to discover the leak or that I was more than 4 hours from a Land Rover dealership as the Rover had only been maintained by Land Rover since it was first purchased. Dreading having to go from shop to shop to have the issue fixed I came across Northwest Auto. I didn’t have an appointment, but was in town and stopped by the shop to ask about my coolant leak. After a few minutes, the owner said they could get it on the lift and check it out.I am thoroughly pleased and glad to have found Northwest Auto. Everyone from the receptionist to the technicians to the owner was kind, genuine and helpful. They listened, discussed, and provided ideas to a solution without trying to sell or charge for unnecessary fixes. The technicians showed and informed me about all they could regarding the issue and then they showed an issue that needed to be fixed. None of us was certain it was the actual issue causing the coolant leak, as there are multiple things that could have caused the leak. Therefore, the owner won’t even allow me to pay for the hour of service I received until we determined if they had fixed the issue. Each day after, I checked and no coolant leak. It seemed to be that they fixed the coolant leak. I was more than pleased to return to the shop, pay for the services, and inform them they fixed the coolant leak in addition to providing superior customer service for any business but most certainly a service shop. Overall, this was the best shop experience. They are real people that really care.

Booked an oil change, got an appointment right away; the service was quick and efficient and included a recommendation (though not a requirement) to do a filter change too, which I badly needed. Pleasant and friendly staff. Clean, comfortable and upgraded waiting area. I will come back for future services.

Extremely unprofessional! I was early for my 10:00 appointment for an oil change. I left the keys and told the man at the front desk we’d go grab breakfast and be right back. Upon returning an hour and fifteen minutes later they hadn’t’ even moved my truck. When I confronted him about it he said, “Oh, I didn’t think you’d be waiting.”, even though I told him we would be. When I asked for the keys and said I’d go elsewhere, nothing, no apology, no asking if I’d like to reschedule, not a word. He was EXTREMELY RUDE. I’d have my vehicles towed to a real shop before I’d use them again and I was a longtime customer here. Good riddance Northwest Automotive!

Come for the free inspection, stay for the great work! I wish I had started taking my car to NW Automotive before I got my head gaskets replaced because their cost would have been much cheaper than I paid, and I believe the warranty would have been better than my current warranty. They will be up front about what your vehicle needs and doesnt need, without pressuring you into unnecessary maintenance.As an added bonus, if you live or work in Kalispell they will give you a ride in their SWEET mini electric car while they work on your vehicle. Went in for a oil change yesterday pretty close to lunch time. The nice lady at the counter said that they might not be able to take it right away because it was close to lunch, but they did anyways! I was very impressed! Only took about 45 minutes to change the oil and look my car over. They actually looked my car over!The emailed inspection absolutely blew my mind. These guys actually found the root of the mysterious clicking noise my car makes, that a trip to three other shops and hundreds of dollars, could not find. In 45 minutes. The inspections included pictures of the things on my car that looked like needed work, which was insanely helpful since I dont understand this mechanics jargon. The place is very professional and helpful. I will be back!

There has been maybe one glitch in repair during that time and they redid the work where it was discovered that a faulty part was the cause, and there was no charge for the re-do. Jim and his mechanics are knowledgeable, skilled, honest, and reliable. I would not even think of taking our vehicles anywhere else for everything from routine service to major repairs.

We attend training together, bounce ideas off of each other daily on how we can provide the best service possible to our customers, and I believe Christophers reputation speaks for itself. Everyone at NW Auto has been very helpful and respectful. They explained everything that needed to be done with my vehicle and stuck with the price quote that I was given. I will always use NW Auto whenever my vehicle needs repair.

They are looking to take your head off, without a doubt. First and foremost, they charged me over $200 just to look over my pickup and tell me whats all was wrong with it (I had planned to have it all repaired there but could not even afford the first thing wrong with it that they told me to prioritize and fix first, so I had to take it back - it was many many times more expensive than I thought it would be). Thats all well and good (charging for inspection/estimate), as their time is valuable and they did a good job in breaking it down - however, the common industry practice is to not charge for this unless the customer is told up front that there will be a charge just for evaluation - they most certainly did not mention anything about this when I took it in. So I feel it was a bait and switch. In addition, I looked up several parts they quoted me for, and the parts were listed at 20-35% higher price than the prices I found at parts stores. This is unacceptable at a place which already has an ultra-premium labor rate. But, to be fair to them, they are very organized and do perform a very good job if youre willing to have it broke off in you (I had had prior work done I was happy with).

Came in with a bad AC compressor on my Saab. They were able to tell us the parts needed, where to look, and their estimate to install. We got the parts and they were able to complete the installation below their estimate. Also very polite and patient; had to get my car the day after Thanksgiving and they came in on their day off to give me my car. Bottom line, these guys are some of the best Ive ever worked with.

Great place with amazing service. They took us in immediately without an appointment and found out exactly what was wrong with our car. They emailed us all the information along with pictures. The visit was extremely cheap and they didnt overcharge us at all. We knew how to fix what was wrong with it on our own so they lets us take our car home and only charged a small office visit fee.I definitely recommend this shop if you want really good customer service.

Great experience. I went in blind and last minute to get my 1971 Impala worked on before I headed out of town; they were able to fit me in immediately and get it done. Staff is complete and very knowledgeable.

Having a mechanic ask you to step into his workshop to see what hes found while checking your vehicle can make your heart stop. This happened when we had NW Automotive service our 2006 F350 diesel truck. Problem turned out to be a leaking head gasket!!Well, we had no option but to have the work done and were so glad we did so. This workshop was immaculately clean, the staff exceptionally professional and caring. During the job our mechanic was actually able to SAVE us money AND MADE SURE TO POINT THIS OUT TO US. Other shops would not have done so.After a week we picked up our truck, were given a thorough work through by the mechanic on the work done and how we should notice a vast improvement in fuel savings and engine power. Everything has turned out exactly as we were told. Our only wish would be that we could afford to have this business travel around the country with us as our own personal vehicle crew. They are that great!!

I called last week and spoke with Micah. I was impressed with how respectfully he treated me. I explained the condition my car was doing and he suggested I bring it in on Monday at 1:00 so they could give me an idea what was wrong.I came in and the sweet woman at the counter said it would take an hour. Which I was a bit surprised. How long does it take to drive a car to feel it vibrate at 45 mph? But ok, I went and grabbed lunch.I came back an hour later and she said they were just finishing. An additional 45 minutes later, (an hour and 45 minutes total) I walked up and told her I needed to be in Whitefish (15 minutes away) by 3:00 pm.Micah came out and started speaking in acronyms I didnt understand. I asked him to explain what he had said. So he repeated, this time explaining the acronyms. I needed my computer upgraded and reset (under $200) or a replacement.Then the woman told me that my bill was $125! I was floored! Never did Micah say when we chatted on the phone that there was a charge to give me an idea of what was wrong with my car. When he saw my chin on the floor at the bill, he looked at me. I said, you never stated there was a cost to get an idea of what was wrong! He said, well I told you we could diagnosis it. I said, Micah did you ever tell me there was a cost? He shook his head and his response was I guess I could have explained that better as he looked at his feet. I stood there with my mouth still wide open, shaking my head in disbelief. He then offered to lower the price by half. I was still in shock because he didnt say it would cost me to have them give me an idea or estimate!I have been a business owner in the valley for over 26 years. In our companies, we make sure our clients understand every cost prior to the start of the work. Had this been my company and one of my staff did this to a client, I would have written off the entire bill. This was a mistake by the staff and his mistake cost me.I came in to find out what was going on, not have them work on my car. I reluctantly paid the bill and told them I would not be back. I am so disappointed! I thought when I called, here is a nice man who is honest and ethical and who treated me with respect. When I arrived, the place was clean and well kept. I so wanted to choose this shop. I am so sad that I have to write this negative review.Make sure you find out in advance if they are going to charge you!I went to another shop. We went for a drive, he checked the car, gave me a diagnosis and didnt charge me. I wanted to get a second opinion to make sure the diagnosis was the same.

I have 3 vehicles I get serviced at Northwest. My experiences have all been the best. Most recently had front wheel bearings replaced on my ranch truck. If youre looking for top crack technicians, fair pricing and fast service this is the place.

Never have I been so disappointed in customer service. My newly purchased truck spent a night& half day at NW automotive getting brake rotors, pads and calipers replaced. When returned to me, it had a 100% certainly new, deep gouge through two faces of the hood.Talked with owner directly who was very disrespectful and actually laughed, did nothing to remedy the damage done.While the damage is too small to warrant a lawsuit and legal fees, anyone fortunate enough to read this review should know what to expect.

Northwest Automotive is the shop to take your vehicle to in the flathead valley. I brought my truck in yesterday with wheel bearing issues. They informed me on when they would get to it and set me up with text message alerts on my vehicles status. They told me exactly what happened and what needed to be replaced. When I went to the shop today I had requested an extra copy of the parts list and pricing, although it was difficult and needed a manager approval they did it with no groans. I had also requested to keep all the damaged and broken parts in which they were happy to give me. Premium price = premium products and services. I am very happy with the job Chris and the shop did.

My Ford Ranger developed a front end noise/bump. Within an hour the pickup was on the hoist where I was shown the cause. A ball joint was replaced while I had lunch and visited the library. Great service

Some bolts sheared off of my exhaust manifold and were stuck in the engine block. Chris did an awesome job explaining everything to me. He even drew a little picture of what went wrong and why. In turn he saved me about 30% off what the original quote was and I was thrilled to have my truck sounding normal after having this exhaust leak for so long. Super easy to work with and super friendly. When it comes to mechanics I am always skeptical but with Chris I know what Im getting and I know that I can trust him. Beem needing a transmission service for a while amd Chris, the owner, seemed to give me a very honest answer for what I needed with my budget. He also discouraged me from spending unnecessary money on a preventive recommendation I had from brakes plus in CO, which I really appreciated.I love their online report of the courtesy inspection (WHICH INCLUDES PICTURES!) and how it breaks down recommendations based on 3 factors: needs critical attention, needs attention soon, and lets keep an eye on this.If I am in the area long term, this will be my go-to car shop :)Thanks guys!

Every vehicle I have taken in is taken care of on the first visit. The mechanics are knowledgeable and thorough, and they dont try to rake you over the coals. They are honest and tell you exactly what they find but dont try to up-sell you on anything unnecessary.

Husband took my tahoe in for a oil changed and loved the place! We now have all of our vehicles serviced here regularly! Its not often he feels comfortable with people workin on our vehicles. But he was impressed! Thanks for the amazing customer service too!! Quick and easy, hey even allowed my dogs to come in while they changed my oil!

Hi Chris,In response to the review and your response provided:  below there are a few facts that you have wrong.I would like to add here we are 2 months later and you obviously had no intention of refunding me the $90. I have dropped necessary paperwork for it, called several times and you have never taken my call.1) I never said I was NOT driving. I was driving the vehicle and it came off while driving. What I said is, I was not on the highway anymore going 70. I was on Meridian headed to the fairgrounds just getting off the highway. I felt the looseness on the highway. I lost steering and was able to pull over off of Meridian and into the fairgrounds to call AAA. You yourself, have not spoken to me directly in regards to any of this so you may want to talk to Mikah again.2) I would not bring it back to you as 1) you were closed. 2) Why would anyone do that? I took a picture of what we found while sitting at the fairgrounds waiting for triple AAA.3) the time lapse - you worked on my vehicle in August I agree - couple months ago. But the incident was the first time I drove my truck since then.4) I have written documentation from the shop that reviewed and fixed it. I will bring it in to collect my $90 which I said I would do. I never once rejected that - EVER. I just havent been into the shop as of yet.5) I never once asked for full refund. I asked for 1/2 (after consideration of talking to your shop) And only 1/2 of the $1400 which was charged for rack and pinion. Not even 1/2 of my total bill.  Your associate agreed and voiced his opnion that he thought it was fair. He said if it was his decision, he would have given me full. BUT I never asked for full.That is a huge error and the shop that worked on the vehicle should have to own that. I get the bus scenario but I dont feel thats fair. This happened, and it was a bad situation that could have been worse. I am a fair person and dont think my request was out of line in the least. Half the job done, half my refund.There is no doubt you are at fault. You were the last people to touch my truck until that day. I have a picture that shows the error.ORIGINAL POSTThis shop didnt tighten my rack and pinion on either side and I lost my wheel/steering while driving. Asked they give me a partial refund and they sd no. My family cld have been killed if we were on highway. Chris the owner said no refund. I will never go back. Mistakes happen but they are not owning it and no humanity as to what cld have happened.

Took in my truck to find out what is wrong and all they could tell me was what I already know. I misjudged a guy who I had got to know pretty well. Charged me $141 for hooking up to diag.... on my receipt there isn’t a single thing noted, so where is my $141 going? I will not return to them nor recommend them after this last expierence. All there inspection/diag fees don’t even get waived even if they get the job...greedy folks as corny as there song. Owner gets very salty to a point he looks highly unprofessional, acts incredibly arrogant and justifies $141 for 1 approved hour of work, then tries to say other shops in town are talking.... I’ve always went to them🤣 please be weary people. He’s desperate about having this bad review and I hope this helps others to not make the same mistake of going to them. We as the customers are entitled to our reviews from the services we review, this owner just wants to argue....

They changed the oil in my rear differential and left the plug loose. It cost me a replacement rear end. Although they say they warranty their labor, they made NO effort toward compensation. Stay away - a LONG ways away.

Awesome service. Other mechanics couldnt fix my subaru forester. These guys fixed the problem without throwing parts at it. Great service & crew! Ill be back with the rest of mtly vehicles.

Great place to take your vehicle to get repaired. The staff there is friendly and ready to answer any questions you have. Took my wifes car into there to have the valve cover gaskit replaced because it was leaking oil onto the alternater. They got it complete the same day at a good price. Couldnt asked for better service.ThanksJust want to add to my review. Had a lift put on my 01 jeep cherokee... Being a jeep and an 01, there were a few rusted on parts that took some torching to get them off. They got it done and the jeep looks great. They do a great job and now they are affiliated with Rough Country makes them even better. 😀Thank you again.

I was having issues with my cars EGR valve, associated with poor fuel economy. NW did a great did a great diagnostic service that I appreciated, but then said I would need a new EGR ($200), spark plugs($140), fuel injection service ($140), air and fuel filters etc all totaling to $990. Now I may need some of those things, but not having $990 on hand I took it to another shop (ACME in Whitefish). They realized right away it was the gasket and not the EGR itself causing the issue, charged me $5 and a bit for labor to clean out some carbon build-up, and problem solved. I also got quotes on the other recommended services and found much cheaper prices. (eg. fuel injection service Reggies in Whitefish -$70, NW- $140) Be careful with NW automotive! In my experience, they just want to sell you services and parts, rather than going for the cheap fix.Update: In response to the owners reply, which I appreciate, I should add that the failing EGR was a month-old part. I took NWs reccomendation and replaced the EGR again with a quality part from AC Delco ($130 instead of $200), but this second brand new part failed the same as the original. Thats when I took it to ACME in Whitefish and they told me right away that it was the gasket, and not the EGR itself. So I do question whether I truly needed a new EGR at all.As to the other services, I agree they need to be done, but they A. were not why I brought my car in, and B. were in some cases twice as expensive at NW then other shops.Again, very pleasant staff, and a very nice diagnostic printout. I also appreciated the owners response. I will change to three stars to reflect this.

Customer service to the max, efficiency, and intelligent workmanship combined with an engageable Montana-style and fair prices.My hubby decided to try NWAuto and we were really impressed. From the outside it is unapposing. The sign is old and worn. Inside though, Christopher is packing. He is a Honda Master Tech and used to work for Eisinger Honda, so we we were super happy to hand over our Pilot. He did a fabulous job. Of course he works on all makes and models. He currently has our Subi.So what puts Christopher above the rest? Well, he gives you pictures. I cant tell you in words how happy my hubby was when he got the EMAIL of the pics and details that showed where our car needed work done and WHY. Im not sure if all guys get this excited about pics like this, but it sure gives you a sense of being cared for and not being lied to. Of wondering, is my mechanic just making this stuff up? The computer software he uses is sleek and smart; the gold standard in our opinion.The front office is clean and modestly well-appointed. Not ostentatious like those dealer joints that charge big bucks for less than worthy service. But well-appointed nonetheless. Courtni, his front of house rep, is friendly and explains car issues well.Were happy weve found Northwest Automotive. Try em! Youll get an honest and intelligent experience.
