About a year ago, while traveling, my transmission went in my 1999 RV. I called several shops, but by far, Shifters was not only the best price and guarantee, but I soon found out they were unbelievably honest.There was a little life left in the transmission and while barely making it on the lift, fluid was spewing every where.They gave me a solid quote for a rebuild transmission, but, also explained there could be other issues because of all of the fluid leaking out, in which, my first thought was Im going to get screwed.A couple of days later they called to tell me the job was finished. They were real fast, which saved me a couple of hundred in car and hotel costs, and they informed me there were no other issues and the bill was as quoted.They had the perfect opportunity to charge me more and it would have been not only believable, but understandable.That is honesty!!!A rare business indeed- great price, quality, guarantee, and super honest to boot.Thanks for your great work!

Everyone was so professional! I went to a shady tree mechanic who told me I needed to pay him to give me a whole new transmission, but when I got a second opinion from Shifters Transmissions, they found the real $45.00 problem and I still have my good running Nissan Murano! If I live to be 500, Ill take my transmission problems to THESE guys. I was told by another shop that I needed a new transmission. I had my car towed to this shop. They told me I had a blown fuse, and itd be 133 bucks to fix. ANY other shop wouldve replaced that transmission and charged me upwards of 1800 dollars. These guys honesty, integrity, and quick work is surely appreciated in THIS day and age. Andy and Steve are heaven sent when you got transmission problems. THANK YOU SO MUCH GUYS !!!!

I had a bad trip to Florida from North Carolina my starter went out I had to get two new batteries or my 7.3 L diesel truck and while the starter was being put on my mechanic Wade who is a friend of my son-in-laws said that my transmission was going to go because it was leaking, we took it to shifters they had it done a day earlier than they said they would and I was on my way back 2 North Carolina and so far everything is good. Thank you Wade and the guys at shifters.

Ive been dealing with Andy close to 17 years. We own an auto repair shop in Fernandina, but we dont do internal transmission repairs. We had gone through many shops and big named shops at that, but Andy and his team have always been honest and easy to talk too. Weve had a few of our personal transmissions done there as well, and Im always happy with their work. My last transmission had some serious issues, and that caused a repeat problem. They got it back in and resolved the issue, I understand how things can happen, the deal is there way they handled it and took care of my truck is why I will always recommend them. The way you handle a return repair can make me a lifetime customer, or run me off forever, but I will be a shifters life time customer, they resolved the issue professionally and quickly. After getting quotes of bank busting estimates, I was referred to Shifters for my transmission repair. Steve took my information on my 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 and on the spot gave me a quote THOUSANDS less than the others. When I picked my truck up they were right on the money. A week later I had serious issues with some front end work and again Steve quoted me a price THOUSANDS under. Not only did they get the repair done quickly but found a few things that needed attention and went ahead and fixed them. No. Charge. I purchased a truck that soon after had a transmission problem and did not even the correct trans it was supposed to have. I asked around and was referred to Shifters by a couple people. They obtained the right one for my truck and did a very good job! The price was right as well! I banged on this transmission hard!! From the day I got it back from them I was manual shifting it doing burnouts and everything else that usually shortens the life of any trans. Its out lived 3 motors and a rearend. I had Shifters build this trans back in 2005! 13 years of abuse and still going strong!

Bad Experience, Paid for transmission to be installed in my car. While my car was on there property, some one stole my brand new battery which i had just purchased a week ago and paid over a hundred dollar. Showed owner my receipt, and called the place I bought the battery from to show the owner that my battery was just purchased. When I went to pick up my car, there was a very used old battery in my car. And I was told hes not responsible for whats taken off or out of my car while on his property. They took my brand new battery. Beware theyre theives. I wouldnt recommend them to any one.wouldnt want what happen to me to happen to you. By the way I had to trash the battery they put in my car because it wouldnt keep a charge. And buy a new one. 😤

Brought my 2005 hyundai elantra to them for a fluid and filter change. The work was completed within 2 hours. The price was exceptionally reasonable. My transmission shifts as smooth as silk now. The workers are very friendly and professional. Their very knowledgeable about the work they do. Overall Im very satisfied. I will definitely be recommending them to friends and family.

Elwin work on my husbands car to put in a new shifter in, completely messed it up, didnt know how bad until few days ago when my husband had it looked at and was told how lucky he was not to have been in a major wreck that could have killed him because they didnt tighten the shifter linkage bolt correctly and it was missing. Beware of taking your car here!

I dropped off my car at Shifters on a Wednesday for diagnosis and repair of a leaking transmission. Elwin did the work and said it needed an output seal and that it had a bad rear wheel bearing. I picked it up that Friday after the seal was replaced, and I ordered bearings and wheel seals as they werent able to find any apparently. Got the car home and the transmission was still leaking. No problem. I took it back Monday to have the leak reinspected and had the wheel bearing done.I got a call later from Elwin saying he had never done a wheel bearing before (he will tell you something different, but these were his words) and flat out told me he wasnt going to do the other side because it was not bad, even though I bought parts for both sides already. I am guessing he did not have experience doing an inner and outer preloaded set of bearings and just did not feel like doing it. No problem. Dont attempt it if you arent comfortable doing it. Thats cool, even though Im wondering when the bearing is going to go bad again since he said he didnt shim the crush sleeve when I asked. $160 which is standard. He said over the phone, well maybe we can bring it down to $75, but that he would check and follow up. I get another call saying they pulled the transmission and that it needed a new torque converter but were not able to find one. This transmission had 247k miles on it, so it probably needed to be replaced or rebuilt even though it only showed some morning sickness symptoms which went away after the car warmed up, apart from the leak. Rebuilding, unfortunately, was far outside my budget, which I mentioned when I first went there. They say they were having trouble locating a new torque converter, so I suggested using a low mileage transmission (50k) from a long-time friend whom Ive known since he bought his car, who swapped out his auto for a manual, and kept the old trans out of the elements. His transmission had no problems when he removed it- I drove the car, hence why I wanted to use it. Shifters had no problem doing this and said bring it in.I pick up the 50k mile trans and torque converter, brought my own fluid from napa, dropped it off Friday morning, and by lunch it was done. I talk to Elwin who was upfront about two issues he encountered- a broken bell housing bolt and a broken mount bolt (mount to tailshaft). I asked him if he replaced the bolts and he just shook his head. I didnt say a word, and told them I would pick up my old trans Monday. I drove out and noticed the gas pedal was really stiff and that the trans was not shifting easily (not shifting into OD, not downshifting into 1st at a stop), which turned out to be the kickdown cable being a bit sticky.I picked up the old transmission this morning, mentioned the kickdown cable, and simply asked if they could throw the old cable back in since it moved freely. Without hesitating, Andy immediately somehow knew the old cable was broken. I asked how this was possible and he said- you guessed it- it was already like that and also that he and I discussed this the previous Friday, which never happened. He then said Elwin had told me the bellhousing bolt was already broken because Andy was standing there and just dismissed the mount bolt. The trans has never been out of my car and bellhousing bolts dont just shear off on their own. I just asked if they would swap out the old cable and replace the mount bolt, forgetting about the bellhousing bolt, and they just started to argue with me and walked away. Elwin said all I wanted was something for free. They still ended up charging me full price for the wheel bearing and $500 labor to replace the trans while breaking multiple parts in the process the previous Friday.Andy and Elwin proved to be very unprofessional and should not be dealing directly with clients. They are either too incompetent or too lazy to do the job right and refuse to own up to any mistakes they made to make things right. Shape Shifters is a more appropriate name. Keep your distance.
