A great place to enjoy adoptable cats while sipping an espresso. Cats are separated from outgoing to shy. The cottage for the kitties is adorable and supplies toys with which you can play. Price is $85 for a 50 minute private session with up to six people.My only concern was that the cat directory binders, which gives the names, breed, sex, and age did not seem up-to-date, but that is an easy fix!We thoroughly loved our time at El Gato Coffeehouse, and highly recommend it.

This place is amazing! All of the volunteers are extremely nice and very knowledgeable about the cats who are currently residing there. They each have a backstory and are up for adoption. The place is clean and has plenty of toys for the cats to play with. They also have a bomb coffee truck that you can order pretty much anything you like. Highly recommend 10 out of 10 and the merch is adorable!

We rented the space for a private hour with the cats. Really enjoyed the ambiance and the cats were very happy to have the attention. We did not opt for the barista to come in because we were a small party but in looking over the menu I would love to come again and try the earl grey latte. I look forward to coming back another time.

Dirty place and super unflexible, paid for 3 extra people, tried to cancel the extra people by email and asked to be able to use the extra money by buying items inside and it was nor possoble neither. 1st place in USA that I see to threat clients like that.

Absolutely adorable little place. Cats were friendly and so well taken care of. There was plenty of food, space, and toys. I didnt get anything to eat or drink, but my friends and I came for the cats nd got what we were there for!!! The walls had cats painted on them and sponsors names. The bathroom was clean and the gift shop was tasteful, the entire experience was pleasing but on the pricier end. I would recommend though, great for a date with friends or a solo spot to sit and play with kitties. I would suggest an all day room and pass. I would happily play 50$ to sit in the back room and draw while playing with a kitty, but for 15 dollars an hour it doesnt seem as suitable.

El Gato is a neat establishment, and an absolute must-see for cat lovers. I am not a cat lover personally, but I enjoyed chilling with the cats nonetheless. Appointments can be made and paid for online or at the establishment in person (though it was cheaper to book it online). There is a selection of coffee and other specialty drinksas well as pastries that have to be ordered through the truck outside the cafe and brought to you inside. The ambiance is great with plenty of natural light and adorable kitty decor. The cats, which are all adoptable, are playful and sweet. As for the coffee, the vanilla latte with almond milk I ordered was delicious. My friend ordered the earl grey latte, which was also delish. I had a blueberry muffin, which wasn’t too sweet and a little dry but was good nevertheless. Altogether, I paid about $7 for a latte and a muffin before the tip- not too shabby!

Easy to sign up online for an hour slot, about $15/person without buying anything in the shop or cafe. Expect to wait outside to begin with and expect to not be the only people during the time slot (can get pretty booked). The volunteers appeared to be familiar with the cats. Many great cat accessories for the residents, e.g., houses, tons of toys, cat trees, cat bridges and ceiling attachments. The place appeared clean and like it could use helpful donations to keep it clean, such as new litter boxes. Overall, an enjoyable experience with the cats.

The kitties are healthy, playful and adoptable. Except the testy black one. Had a great time chilling with the furry peeps.

This place was so awesome!! The cats were wonderful to play with and it’s nice to know that they’re all up for adoption. The atmosphere was very calm and relaxing, and the food/drinks were incredibly tasty. They have a great selection of vegan options, which we really appreciated. There are quite a few cats and some of them are a little sneaky, so watch out so they don’t steal your food! Also, the little gift shop in the front has tons of cute cat-themed items. 11/10!!

Went here for the Cats on Mats Yoga on Sundays. Loved it! The teacher is very nice and down to Earth, and I felt like I could keep up with the poses, wasnt too difficult for a beginner like me. Loved that the kitties had the freedom to just run around as we did our poses. Will def make the drive for more yoga. Please help support this great little place.

Me and my friends had a relaxing time watching the cats play while we drank our themed coffees. I had an ice coconut meowchata, it was amazing. Matilda the cat fell in love with my aunt. We sat in the back corner so we could talk in between loving on the cats.

This is a cute little cafe with a great purpose. While yes they charge per person to get in, I know the money is going towards a good cause in order to foster a variety of cats. The hot tea I got was pretty good, and you order your drink when you get inside and pay for the cover fee (it is later delivered to you in a small window inside). I went during the weekday and it wasnt as crowded as it could have been. While yes some of the cats can be a bit sassy or not as social, I still feel like this is a better option than them sitting in a cage at an animal shelter. As long as people dont annoy the cats (constantly bother them/be in their faces), then everyone can have a relaxing and good time. The cats also have a place that they can get away from the crowd (only employees can enter). The staff that works there is super nice and I love that they are working to adopt out these cats and bring some awareness.

I absolutely adored this place! We came in last minute and usually youll need a reservation to get in (at least when its really busy) and they told us that theyll be able to take care of us! Everyone was super nice and informative about all the cats and what their needs are. Like how the orange collared cats basically are the argo ones and youll need to watch yourself with them, but all of them were so cute. We gave them treats as we were leaving and all of them loved it. On top of having such nice time we found out that you can also adopt them. Which I thought was cool because you can hang out with them for an hour or so and then find out which one you can take as a forever home. Definitely will come again and bring along some friends!!

Adorable, brand-new cat cafe in Houston! While the cafe part of the deal isnt fully implemented yet, the cat part definitely is. A bunch of adoptable cats are available to visit and play with. Some of the cats seemed a bit overwhelmed, especially around certain children, but there are spaces for the cats to get a break if needed. El Gato is working out the kinks as they go, which will hopefully lead to the best possible experience for both patrons and cats (monitoring guest-to-cat ratios and clear, printed guidelines for recommended cat interaction/behavior may help). Will definitely return in the future to see how the business evolves!

Definitely an enjoyable afternoon activity! Great for family/dates/friend activity- cat-yoga or just the coffeehouse/cat fun. There are a variety of cats and a sweet, friendly staff that loves what they do. There are cute cat related items to shop from and comfy benches and books to end up stuck on with a napping cat on your lap. Yoga was very beginner oriented and relaxing.

I wish there were more places like this! What a great way to get adoptable cats and kittens used to being around people. It seems to do the job too. All the kittens were ready to play and didnt mind being approached. Even the adult kitties were super sweet. Will definitely recommend people to adopt from this facility! 🥰🥰🥰

This place is not a great experience. The price for entry is too high for what little time you get to spend with the cats. The cats themselves are cool and great. However, the employees are constantly there with you in the room and makes the experience awkward because of the lack of privacy. The building itself smelled bad as the employees just have the cat litter boxes in the room where you interact with the cats. I would not recommend eating anything there if this is the sanitary standard they have. This place is definitely NOT a cafe but more like a shelter that you can interact with. Do not come here if you want to sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee/cake with the company of cats.

So much fun. If you love cats this a great place to get your cat fix and enjoy a good chai, coffee...or the cinnamon roll. Yes indeed get the cinnamon roll. Be prepared to play with the many cat owners. Cute gift shop and wonderful staff. You can also come to yoga and art classes here!

Love the kitty cats. Julia was my favorite. They are so sweet. The people are kind and offer information on each cat.

The staff there were very friendly. We split a cinnamon roll and it was the best ever! The concept here is that you get to visit with a bunch of cats. Well they had 17 cats total so there were plenty of cats, and they controlled the number of people inside, so theoretically the ratios were favorable. The problem was that about 30 to 40 percent of the cats were not friendly, so bad that they would growl or hiss if you tried to pet or handle them. Perhaps that they are among lots of different people every day with little peace except at night is a problem, I dont know. In our orientation talk they did say all the cats were up for adoption and I think that is their goal, but many of their cats are just not adoptable.

This is a wonderful place to visit if you love cats. They serve coffees, teas, muffins, cinnamon rolls, and other treats while you can pet and play with adoptable cats.They also have fun events throughout the month like painting cat related pictures while hanging with the cats and yoga with the cats.

Such a cute and fun place. Have always wanted to come to a place like this. The precautions were well done and the price is worth paying. Kitties are all very different with different personalities. You can play with them, pet them and enjoy your drink. You can even adopt these little guys and find them a home. Definitely coming back to support this business. I came for a Saturday morning Yoga with Cats event (a 45 minute yoga practice, followed by a 30 minute hang out session with the cats, and complimentary coffee). The yoga practice was a wonderful, calming, beginners level class. The resident cats were (mostly all) friendly, used to being around people, and adoptable! The staff was very knowledgeable about each cats individual personality. They have all kinds of cat memorabilia for sale: cat paintings, cat jewelry, cat t-shirts, cat cookies, cat pillows, etc etc etc.Basically, if you like cats, this is the place for you.

Absolutely fantastic! All cats are adoptable and up to date on all vaccines and spayed/neutered. An individual session for an hour is only $14! You can come in, spend time in the kitten and adult rooms to see if you bond with a cat before trying to adopt. They also offer a 7-day sleepover and a thorough adoption process to ensure the kitties fit well into a home. Staff are accomodating and sweet, very passionate about caring for the little ones. Plus theres super cute cat-themed merch. Loved it and will come back!

The coffee from the coffee truck in the parking lot is pretty good. They will kindly bring your order into the shelter so you can drink while hanging out with the cats. Recommended to make reservations at the shelter on weekends or holidays as they get quite busy. Honestly, Im not used to paying almost $60 (with drinks) for 2 adults and 2 children to visit an adoption shelter. Its well run and they have some good adoption resources if you decide to go that route.

I love this place and I love their mission! Such a fun time and everyone who works here is so sweet. You can tell they really do care about the cats here and that they treat them well. I wish there were more places like this around town - It’s such a great concept. I’d recommend making reservations / buying tickets online prior to going, since they limit the amount of people that can go in at a time. You get about a hour inside with the cats and there’s set times when you can go in.

Too much human to cat ratio at one time. Good place to go if you love to play with cats and like coffee. But if you plan to adopt; follow-up constantly. The communication needs improvement. Otherwise you may end up charged at the door and told after paying the fee that the feline you wanted to see is at a sleepover. Also, try not to embarrass your customers in front of other customers during a discussion or potential issue.

I love this place! Its great place to study or do some work while sipping a coffee and being surrounded by some very cute and entertaining cats. They also have a few snacks available too. There is a charge to go in but its very cheap and they use that money to keep the cats well fed and healthy as the cafe works as a foster home for them. I love the idea behind and will be going back

We loved the cats but the smell of urine killed all the fun. They should find a solution for that. Almost $40 for an hours for two adults and two kids should make enough money to get rid of that smell.

Its exciting to see that Houston is finally following the trend of having animal cafes. This cozy place is perfect for any feline lover, as the prices are somewhat reasonable at $10/hr for an adult. The cafe is somewhat small, but feels quaint and cozy. Due to its size, reserving ahead of time is most recommended.As for the cats, I highly recommend going on the weekday, if possible. On the weekends, theyve received more than their fair share of attention, so petting them and playing with them can be somewhat of a struggle against their lazy nature. Furthermore, Id really wish the $10 entrance fee included a few cat treats to entice our feline friends, as this is what many cat cafes abroad do.However, for a first iteration, Im happy to see that the El Gato coffeehouse offers a wide range of activities including book clubs, yoga, and movie nights with the cats. I hope this will encourage other animal cafes to pop up eventually.P.S. The coffee was actually pretty decent!

Went with my grandson we both are cat lovers! This place was just too cute the way they have the place set up for the cats. It was very calming with the music and being around all the wonderful cats. It was like cat therapy. You leave with such a relaxed feeling.

We are glad we visited! It was fun hanging out and playing with the cats, mainly because the space to interact with them is tailor-made for kitties. The staffers were nice and friendly, too. The drinks could have been better--we had the lemonade. The drinks and food are from a food truck in their parking lot; it would be nice if there were a cafe area or waiting area inside where people could wait before their reserved time starts (there isnt really a place inside to wait).

I’ve been to this cat cafe twice and it’s a nice way to decompress! The cats have been very sweet so far and are lovely. The cat room is nicely decorated and the atmosphere is super chill. Pricing is a little high, but if it’s only you and/or a friend it’s totally doable. It’s a wonderful way to get your cat fix!The one thing I wish they would do is a day/time slot a week for people only over the age of 12 or so; this time around I honestly felt like I wasted my money because there were many loud children who scared off 90% of the cats and I found myself sitting around doing nothing for most of my visit.

This was a delightful hour spent with cats (and drinking coffee) which I can recommend to anyone who considers themselves a cat person. The cats are of course adoptable and the entry fee you pay helps support them. You need to make a reservation because the number of people inside can overwhelm the kitties.

Ive been coming here for a year or two now and I love this place. The quality of the drinks and the care and attention given to all the cats, I love all of it. The owner, she is such a kind person and so friendly, and I recommend this place to all kinds of people all the time.

Visiting cats while drinking beverages; what a fantastic idea! The staff at El Gato ensure all visitors abide by the rules of the cafe as they care much for all of their feline compatriots; superb! Not many of the cats are playful and sociable but thats ok, theyre doing cat things. It was nice to see all of the kitty inhabitants relaxing in a safe environment. :3

I absolutely love this place! I always take my family and friends here when they come to visit (given they dont have a cat allergy). The staff is very patient, kind, and knowledgeable. The kitties are usually very sweet and playful, but all cats have different personalities. I have never been to any special events like movies or yoga, but I have heard good things! Their coffee and food is also good. I really enjoy this place! It helps to relieve stress.

My boyfriend brought me here for my birthday. This place is awesome! Three coffee was great and the atmosphere was even better. There were so many cute cats and cat merchandise. Its perfect for cat lovers!

I loved the cats! They were precious and the staff was extremely nice! My two favorite were Eponine, who was a very precious little baby and she was so fluffy, and Katherine Johnson who has the greatest name and the greatest attitude!
