I’ve been coming here for years until today. I brought my car in yesterday morning because my break system lights are on and the cars push to start system was struggling to recognize when my foot was or wasn’t on the break. I explained this thoroughly and even wrote it down for them. I call today to learn that my vehicle would need a new valve cover. I asked the mechanic “tony” how a valve cover could affect the breaks. He responded by saying that it wasn’t his job to explain that to me. The ridiculous women at the front desk had zero recollection today of me bringing my car in yesterday. She is the one who filled out the paperwork to intake my vehicle. I finally get my vehicle home to learn that it wasn’t even put back together. Sad day.
Wouldnt suggest it. Brought the vehicle in because of a power issue. Explained the issue. When I hadnt heard anything after dropping off the car on thursday. I called on monday. Spoke with a mechanic he said he looked into the power issue and the overheating issue. I asked him what overheating issue? He said it was on the invoice to be looked at. He stated that my fan had power but was not actually turning causing the overheating. Now I have never, not once, had a issue with overheating. I got a quote of over 2300. This total including a lot of other things that we had already done and didnt need done. I almost went ahead with this even though I had that lingering thought of why they checked so many other things, then what was actually wrong with our vehicle. So we decided to pick it up. Took it to 2 other mechanics. Both stated the same thing. Fan works just fine no overheating issue. A code came up for a missed fire but they both determined it was due to the power issue. Needless to say my vehicle has now been repaired by another mechanic and works wonderful. For under 1000. ABSOLUTLEY would question all info you get from these people. As by 2 separate mechanics that knew nothing of the previous both had the same conclusion.
These guys are awesome. Believe me any odd ball jobs you may have or air cooled go there!
Tony knows what he is doing.
BEWARE - you will be charged an arm, leg and foot for services and parts. “Gotta make a profit”. Charged $550 for a $300 (at most) alternator with no core deposit refund included!Needless to say we had an issue with our car so naturally we took it in to German Autowerks. We’ve used this company in the past with no qualms. The car was dropped off in the AM and was done in the PM, hey great, that’s fast. Checked over the bill to see a whopping fee for the alternator. Alright maybe it costs that much? Check online, NOPE.Earlier we had said we wanted to keep the alternator (because shady repair shops sometimes keep the alternator to repair it and swap it in the next car) “well no we get a core deposit for returning it”. Oh ok, that should lower my bill a bit. Wrong! But hey maybe they offer a decent warranty with it. Yeah when we called back we get a “18 month warranty”. Check online for the alternator actual manufacturer warranty - its 2 years. HMMM.At a time when everyone is hurting from a global pandemic to be stuck in the gut like that from a company we used to trust. It hurts. We will recover but we will never forget.I am hoping anyone who reads this will take heed and BE WARNED.The PROs:+ car fixed, hopefully+ new? alternator replacedThe CONs:- Price gouge- core deposit passed on to customer- cares about profit, not customer satisfaction
I brought my 2007 BMW 328xi here since the engine was misfiring badly. I was only able to talk to the receptionist, which should have been my first red flag. She told me, quite clearly, that they would diagnose the engine for 1/2 hour of labor. Which they did. Then, I agreed to have them replace the spark plugs and install one cylinder coil, for 1.5 hours of labor. That was what I agreed to, but they did not do what (she) said they would. When I came back, they didnt install the spark plugs, and did not replace the misfiring cylinder coil. Instead, the receptionist told me that I had agreed to additional diagnosis, when I did NOT agree to that. Then, she charged me another 1.5 hours of labor, just to tell me that the car passed all these other checks, and they ended up doing NOTHING. I tried to get them to not charge me a lot of money for things I didnt agree to and she flat out REFUSED and just made more excuses for charging me! And she knew I was mad as hell, but could have cared less. This is what happens when you cannot talk to a mechanic and are forced to deal with office help. Do NOT take your car here, since you will NOT be happy! Youve been warned. I will never come here again. They blew it. Maybe this shop is playing the numbers game and doesnt care about repeat business. Either way - they will be OUT of business, if not already!Take your car somewhere else for proper repairs. :( I made a bad mistake by coming here....
So far so good.. we shall see after work is done
These guys are amazing. Did not take advantage of me and I feel I got my money’s worth. They saved me loads of money that other shops were going to overcharge and tell me something was wrong with my car that wasn’t really broken. They are so honest and that’s hard to come by nowadays. I appreciate their work 100%. Thanks guys!!
I had my car towed to their shop last week because my car died on the way home from work. It was the closest repair shop that’s why I chose it. The check engine light was on. They called and said that they needed a special computer to find out the problem. The next day they called and said it was ready and that they cleared the codes. Clearly they didn’t fix anything. It ran yesterday when I picked it up and to work this morning. I was on my way to pick something up and the car died. Same problem. A waste of 300 dollars. I will not take my car there. They don’t know how to fix mini coopers. I’m now stuck on the side of the road near the Hawthorne bridge waiting for another tow to a real mini repair shop. I thought 300 was too good to be true. I’m not even sure what they really did. There was no explanation when I picked up the car. Bad service
I own a 2001 Mercedes S500 with 230k miles on it. I trust them and they are priced fairly. Alex does a great job and cares. They are honest and timely. It is nice to find a shop that takes pride in what they do and accountable.
Awhile back I bought a 73 super beetle, as most do they need alittle tune up and love. Well mine needed a new reverse gear. So I called up deb and tony to schedule an appointment. Dropped it off for a phone call three day later saying my vehicle was ready for pickup. Tony had gone over and above my expectations not only did he beat other shops prices And speed, he was able to fix a ton of other things and still stay in my budget. The car is running fantastic! He even fixed my window crank as a little surprise ! I was shocked when I jumped in the rolled down my window for the first time. I will referr any friends and family to Tony an debs Shop. 5 STARS
I took my Audi TT here for a simple oil change, and they managed to short out the wiring in my exterior lights in the process. $1900 to repair the damages...
Awesome place to get your car repaired. Nice family run operation. Debbie takes care o business:)
Ask for Aleksey. Best German car mechanic in the PNW.
LOVE these Guys, they find things that my other mechanic could. They have solved 2 problems that my other mechanics just could not figure out! They are my GOTO team.
Very detailed investigation of very challenging issues - solved a vague occasional check-engine problem on my 23 year old Audi that no one else could sort out. The best of old school mechanic persistence instead of simply reading the code and replacing something.
The service was great, and they had my car ready when they said it would be. I have always been happy with their service and they explain what the problem is before beginning the work.
Excellent service.
Great service, friendly staff and convenient location. This is the best place to take your German car for all its service needs.
Brought my 1971 Volkswagen Campmobile in to have the brake lines and fluid replaced since I was having issues with a stiff pedal, seriously uneven braking, and wheels not releasing causing major drag. They completed that work and also identified and replaced a resulting broken rear brake spring. Now, after 23 years of ownership, the power-assist finally works and there is no drag that needs compensated for while shifting.Ive had both Heckmann & Thiemann and Traftons work on this in the past, and always left with a sour taste that I should have just done the work myself. Unfortunately, I dont have the space/help to perform this work myself, and Ive never felt better about asking for help and outsourcing the work. So happy that there are shops like this still around that will REALLY help keep your old Volkswagen alive!
Can’t say enough good thing about this place! Excellent customer service and outstanding work, I wouldn’t take my Beatles anywhere else!
They tried to repair a cold start problem and could not fix the issue. After 3 failed attempts, instead of promptly returning the payment, we had to go through a credit card dispute.I won the dispute, but it took some effort. Here are some notes:1) They have been through the credit card dispute process many times before (obviously... since they dont have the expertise to repair my German Auto). They knew exactly what to say to the credit card company and my credit card company actually ruled in their favor. I had to take it to the next level and pin them on their legally advertised 18 month warranty to hold them accountable.2) The total process took 6 months. They fabricated excuses and reasons to delay the process as much as possible. I believe that their business model is to drag issues such as this out as much as possible until the customer gives up. For $800, it really wasnt worth my time, but i was angered and i could not let these thieves steal my money without a battle. If they were going to steal my money, I wanted to make sure they actually earn it, :)3) Here are the actual documented excuses they claimed:Excuse #1 - the car was actually fixed; customer must provide proof that it was not fixed. I rejected this excuse because their 4th diagnosis was to have additional reprogramming needed.Excuse #2 - they claimed to have made a verbal offer to pay for reprogramming at the dealership but customer declined the offer (THIS IS ANOTHER LIE). This was closed by my offer to take the car to the dealership for the final reprogramming.Excuse #3 - they did not want to schedule the appointment with the dealership, but only offer to reimburse me. This was rejected by me. They finally made the appointment after i proposed to take it to arbitration.Excuse #4 - they made the appointment, but refused to pay upfront. they wanted me to agree that i would end the dispute if they agreed to pay upfront. I reminded them that they failed 3 times, and that if they failed again, then i will still require a full refund. They finally agreed to a full reimbursement without the reprogramming at the dealership. This was in May, a full 5 months after their failure to repair my car. After the agreement, i still had to send documented emails, deadlines, and warnings of legal action before they returned my payment in June (another full month of delays). 6 full months. They are very good at lying. They know how to lie and reel in new customers, and how to lie and work the dispute process.Dont let them waste your time. Take it to a legitimate shop.
While driving to class, the Check Engine light came on in my 2005 Passat. After verifying with the place that did my recent oil change that I had no loose caps that could be triggering things, they recommended that I take my car in to German Autowerks. They told me that they were the best in dealing with Volkswagen issues, and they were correct. My problem was diagnosed quickly (thermostat/temp control), all possible repairs were quoted at a fair price, and when it came to the service they also checked other potential trouble areas (namely, they replaced worn spark plugs). I took my car in at 8 a.m. and was driving it home by noon, everything running perfectly and with a car that was as clean as I had left it. I would highly recommend other VW drivers turn to German Autowerks to take care of their repair needs. Thanks to the staff for making this a great experience!
Very caring and knowledgable staff! I had my car towed there when brake caliper blew out and they looked at it right away, ordered the part and had it done the next day. Easy to communicate with, always answers phone right away. I have dealt with other german auto places and Debbie was by far the most honest, respectful and caring out of any of them. Highly recommend. And very thankful for all they did.
My BMW has issues from time to time, and I highly recommend these guys. Jason is very good at diagnosing problems with my car, and the estimates for repairs are always far lower than what I would expect to pay at the dealership.
I have been a customer for ten years. They have been straight up with trouble shooting and fair with the cost of their work.
Awesome service knowledgeable staff. will definitely be going back
Lucky my boyfriend is a half ass mechanic. They were persistent of hose that absolutely needed to be changed at that moment for 400$. I relayed the message to my boyfriend, he called bullshit, the hose was within top engine view to change, the price at the most would be 30$ for the hose. My bf looked at the hose and seen that the clamp was loose. Wow! Btw, I just read Bryans comment. One guy told us 50$ to diagnose the check engine light. The other guy said 100$ which turned in to 106$. Theyve taken my naive auto brains for a few pay checks.
Experienced shop run by honest people. Thats all you can ask for these days.
They staff is very friendly and was able to work my sons car in after another shop made a very pricey mistake. So far, they have done good work on his car and I like that they brought him out to the car to show him exactly what was wrong before they did any work
Ive been coming here for a long time and they always have great service, customer and mechanical. Ill be coming here for awhile for sure.
I have a audi q7 2008 had some work done by this shop and iam more then happy with them so nice and helpful really recomend the place. oil leak and replace gas gasket fix yes not cheap but totally wort every penny on my eyes for good service
I would give less than one star if I could. I was told that it would be free for them to reset a light on my car. When I got there the guy told me that the other guy isnt supposed to be answering the phone. He made it sound like the worlds biggest inconvenience to help me and charged me $50 then the older lady came in and told me it would be $100 after I told her I work on it myself. Nobody knows what the hell they are doing and it took almost an hour. (correction Im still here and its been over an hour) All they had to do was plug it in, horrible horrible experience.
I worked there, mouse house, the floors are not even flat, if the mechanics forget to set your brake your car will roll outta the shop, the ceilings are too low to raise a car up fully into the air with the hood open, the hood will get scratched by the ceiling, got more if they dont give me back the stuff they STOLE from me, just trying to get my stuff back, they seem to think it is a joke, Oh HO HO.. no give me back my stuff Moonbeam,, my CIS fuel pressure tester,, my spark plug connecter tool, my orange handled screwdriver for belly pans, My Logitech Keyboard and my Logitech Mouse. yes no lunch break, no benefits, no vacation other than holidays, Tony is how old now? Why has he not retired?
This place is shotty at best. The Absentee owner Tony is a dishonest business owner. I took my VW Baja in for service, 6 months later i was told it was running perfectly.I went to pick it up and guess what, ran just as bad as when I dropped it off. The magical Tony was called and I waited 45 minutes for him to arrive. When he arrived he acted mystified and needed to keep it longer. Another 2 months later he said it was ready. He said he needed to put dual weber carbs on it to get it to run right. After I picked it up it did seen to run better but I noticed that the carbs were not what he said he was going to install. He installed Solex carbs! He also took out both of my seat belts for some reason as well as replaced a high pressure oil line with regular heater hose. I had to buy new seat belts and install them. I also had to fix the oil line as it ruptured and shot all the oil out of the engine. luckily I noticed this quickly and shut it down. I would NEVER go there for anything as the owner Tony is very dishonest, untimely and just down right bad. With all the years they have been in business Its shocking that they are still in business.
Dropped off my 550i to get a tranmission service along with replacing the upper control arms. Received a call the following day that they ripped off my front bumper and broke the tabs that secure it to the body. They attempted to blame me saying I must have parked it on a curb and their mechanic didnt notice it. I let them know I did not agree with nor accept any responsibility and that I have 2 witnesses that can attest to where I left my car parked when I dropped it off. The owner said he could fix it however 5 days later when they finally finished the bumper repair, it was apparent that this place does extremely poor work. The bumper had been reattached to the car with epoxy of some sort and was pretty much warped, ill fitting, color did not match and a very visible crack line where the curing process seems to be rushed. I got a lawyer and they have not responded to the payment demand letters for the replacement of the bumper they destroyed. Terrible service all around, places like this give this industry a bad name. I wish I could post a pic of their work here to show what they called a repair.
Fixed stuff I did ask to fix AND charged me for it!! The front office lady, very unprofessional...yelled at the top of her lungs at us when we questioned the charges. I would never go back. I agree with other posts that say, “They don’t care about you, they are just there to collect money from you.” Ditto!!!
Tony and crew are great German car guys.. 25 years plus
Great service
I went in to fix a problem and came out with another one i didnt have! I tell them about it the duded came out and started being a smart ass. Never going back
The worst days... dont go to that place, the father and son have no clue about mechanic issues. Save your self time, money and anger....
They act as if they dont give a single f$&k about you. They are just there to collect money from you
Super overpriced quotes, were going to charge $440 for a job that cost me $75 in parts and 30 minutes under the hood to fix with basic hand tools and a youtube video.
Have appointment for my car this week, will rate after service, first time here
The dudes are awesome there
I like it
The best.... PERIOD!!!!!!
